    Tossed Noodle with Beef Tendon
    Gerry L.

Two co-workers and I walked up to the Chinese Cultural Plaza on Beretania and River Street to try a new Taiwanese restaurant. Alas, it was packed so we walked around looking for an alternative. On the River Street side, we stumbled onto Hong Kong Noodle House. We used to come here for duck noodle every now and then a long time ago. Our server brought us water in paper cups (??) and menus. It was an extensive menu for a small restaurant; two of us ordered the tossed noodles ($15) with beef tendon while the third member of our group asked for the tossed noodles with beef tendon and pig's feet ($18). Our food came out quickly, on paper plates. The soup that accompanies tossed noodles came in a shallow plastic container, like you would get when you buy a quarter pound of poke. We wondered why paper plates and cups; that must increase their costs. The only thing I could think of was staffing. It seemed to be a two-person operation. I tried the noodles first ... they were salty. My tablemate suggested dipping the noodles into the soup. I thought that wouldn't work because the soup was also salty. However, that did work, but it made the noodles softer. My tablemates thought the noodles were overcooked; mine were okay until I dipped them to "rinse off the salt". Conversely, the tendon was fine as was the pigs feet. Our tab was $50, we left $60 and walked out feeling unsatisfied. My co-workers ended up buying a croissant at Ocean Side Bakery on the way back to our office. We can safely drop Hong Kong Noodle House off our list of places to eat. Sorry ...

Still good after all these years! We've been coming here since way before COVID for our tossed noodle fix. And they were recently featured on the local food vloggers Amanda & Felix! Yay! About time HKNH gets their due. But the secret's out! The same bouncy, fresh made noodles and the delicious won tons. Not surprisingly, prices have gone up a bit over the years but still reasonable. Food is now served on disposable plates and bowls but we're not coming for the presentation. It's the noodles that shine- recommend the tossed noodles which you can get with a combination of toppings if you can't decide. A must have IMO are the won tons (my usual is won ton and duck combo) And the owner is always nice and welcoming.

Me and my family was visiting Hawaii! Was craving soup. So decide to try this place out. Place us a bit small but the food was so good. I recommend this place. :)

Had a last minute lunch today @ Hong Kong Noodle House w/a good friend and my sister and brother in law . I ordered their Toss noodles w/Char Siu with the soup on the side . Plus a side order of roast duck so everyone could share . Actually their Toss noodles the soup comes on the side that's their signature noodles . Service was fast and friendly and the meal was very filling. Support local

We were craving Hong Kong Noodle & came back to the O.G. /first place we discovered tossed noodle w/ soup on the side. Changed ownership through the years but the dishes are the same and brings us back to our old school favorites. They're known for their Tossed Noodle dishes but decided to try their Noodle Soup since I was craving wun tun (reasonably priced). Food took a little longer than normal but they did have lots of take-out orders (Sunday lunch). Water served in foam cups, and entrees on paper plates and take-out bowls. We emptied everything and left very satisfied. Cravings filled.

A friend of Craig T. (Gino) took us out to lunch at HKNH. He wanted us to try their made in house noodles. Craig T was kind enough to pick me and my wife up. The restaurant is located in the cultural plaza with the entrance facing Nuuanu Steam. I ordered the beef tendon and pigs feet. This was served over a bed of the house noodles. The soup was served on the side. I really enjoyed the dish. I put a little mixture of shoyu and hot mustered. I didn't need the soup. Gino ordered Choy Sum and Roast Duck from us to share. Both were favorful .Side note; the food was served on paper plates and take out containers. Customer service excellent. Enjoy

No frills, good food, great price. Service was quick, it tastes like homemade cooking. I got the braised beef and wun tun. The broth was so light, but I added some chili, the braised beef was delicious, but the wun tuns stole the show. I debated buying them frozen to eat later. My husband got the char siu tossed noodle.

After a long morning of attractions, we decided to stop by chinatown for lunch and came across this restaurant. My husband was craving wonton noodle soup and me & the kids on the other hand, we're bbq meat lovers- they have both! It was around 1 pm, we were the only ones dining in, and the owner who took our order was very nice & helpful. We ordered a wonton noodle soup, half roast duck, an order of roast pork & a few bowls of rice to eat with the meats. The wontons were plumped and meaty, homemade egg noodles were soft & broth was tasty just like in Hong Kong- so good that we ordered another bowl of wonton soup packed with 14-15 wontons. The roast duck and roast pork were flavorful, duck skin was crispy & pork was tender. The only downfall is that they don't have ginger/scallion chicken and roast pig. I would've gotten them all! Overall, we were not disappointed- definitely worth trying.

Been coming here for over 20 years even after they changed owner/management. Very nostalgic for my family so it's a must every time we fly home for a visit

I've been coming here for over 40+ years and it's still one of our go-to spots. Like all establishments, prices have gone up but it's well worth it. Hong Kong noodle house is a small hole in the wall restaurant with hard working owners that have kept the taste of their food consistent as the original owners. Nothing fancy but VERY delicious!

Today my brothers friend took us out to lunch close to where I live in chinatown. This place I know we can walk but Craig decided to pick us up and drove over there. This place is right by royal kitchen manapua and Sandy's cafe. Called Hong Kong noodle house. We were there at 11am and I chose the won ton noodle in soup, my brother ordered toss noodles with roast duck and char siu and soup on the side. My husband ordered beef tendon with pig feet also soup on the side. Craig friend ordered green onion and beef soup on the side. Everything was good soup was hot and the noodles thin toss in a light sauce not over powering. Craig's friend also ordered roast duck and Choi sum on the side was good. Never heard of this place and will be back. Not walking there but drive. Lol...

Delicious beef tendon! Wonton had no shrimp and skin could be thinner though
    Rebecca T.

The tendon here was delicious! However I still haven't found a place with wontons comparable to what Hong Kong can offer... the wontons here didn't have enough shrimp and the skin wasn't thin enough. The noodles were OK. They weren't chewy or bouncy. But I'd go and order their beef tendon again. The staff were pretty friendly.

The sides had larger tables for larger parties. The tables felt pretty close together but we enjoyed the stool/bench chairs we sat on. They were different than what we are used to in restaurants. Our order was taken quickly. We decided to get the beef chow fun, yang chow fried rice, and cheong fun. The cheong fun was good, especially after adding hoisin sauce. The texture was soft and the portion was quite decent. The chow fun was also yummy. It was tasty without being overbearing. The fried rice was our favorite. This was perfect timing for us. However once seated, we had to ask for water 4 times, sauces twice, and waited a 10-15 minutes for someone to stop by and take our order. When someone did come to get our order they told us it was the only time we could order dim sum. This struck us as odd. We had mentioned that the hose explained it would be 1-1/2 hours until last call. They mumbled something at us out of what we felt was annoyance then stuck to this order being our last call for dim sum. We proceeded to order our entire meal quickly since we often eat at Chinese restaurants and generally know what we felt like eating for us and our kids. Around 3:30 (10 min or so after we ordered ) the server came back and told us they are out of 1/3 of what we ordered which included picking duck and look fun. Again very odd on a Sunday afternoon. So we kept what they did have available and continued to wait. At this point still waiting for our waters. As the sitting went on we observed a table who sat after us get their waters food and everything they asked for quickly. We waited almost 20 minutes for water and rice that we had to ask for multiple times. The rice still wasn't brought out until almost 30 minutes in, which was after 3 items from our order was brought out at very slow rates compared to other tables who we overheard ordering. We also needed to cancel our crispy noodles that we ordered for the kids as it was going on 45min and the last thing left on our order although it was the first item on our receipt and the first item requested. Overall the flavor of the food was good and the only reason I gave stars, however my family and I felt borderline discriminated against and service was very bad. I do not recommend this place for anything other than takeout.
