I read that Hong Kong Noodle House makes their own Char Siu (Cantonese Barbecued Pork) on Saturday & Sunday. Their Char Siu Chow Fun is available during those days. I knew I had to go as that is one of favorite dishes. The restaurant is a small hole in the wall right across the side entrance of Royal Kitchen. I ordered my Char Siu Chow fun and walked over to also get some food from Royal Kitchen. When I got back, the man who took my order was gone, but my order was ready. I asked the lady at the counter how much it was. She said "no English" but said the amount in Cantonese. Luckily, I understood her, thanks to a few years of Chinese School. What a good deal, Just $12. The Char Siu Chow Fun was prepared perfectly, very delicious and the serving generous. Totally worth driving to Chinatown. I had wanted to try their dumplings, but none were available. I'll be back! Highly recommend! All customers while I was there spoke Chinese. Family business and friendly. Two co-workers and I walked up to the Chinese Cultural Plaza on Beretania and River Street to try a new Taiwanese restaurant. Alas, it was packed so we walked around looking for an alternative. On the River Street side, we stumbled onto Hong Kong Noodle House. We used to come here for duck noodle every now and then a long time ago. Our server brought us water in paper cups (??) and menus. It was an extensive menu for a small restaurant; two of us ordered the tossed noodles ($15) with beef tendon while the third member of our group asked for the tossed noodles with beef tendon and pig's feet ($18). Our food came out quickly, on paper plates. The soup that accompanies tossed noodles came in a shallow plastic container, like you would get when you buy a quarter pound of poke. We wondered why paper plates and cups; that must increase their costs. The only thing I could think of was staffing. It seemed to be a two-person operation. I tried the noodles first ... they were salty. My tablemate suggested dipping the noodles into the soup. I thought that wouldn't work because the soup was also salty. However, that did work, but it made the noodles softer. My tablemates thought the noodles were overcooked; mine were okay until I dipped them to "rinse off the salt". Conversely, the tendon was fine as was the pigs feet. Our tab was $50, we left $60 and walked out feeling unsatisfied. Still good after all these years! We've been coming here since way before COVID for our tossed noodle fix. And they were recently featured on the local food vloggers Amanda & Felix! Yay! About time HKNH gets their due. But the secret's out! The same bouncy, fresh made noodles and the delicious won tons. Not surprisingly, prices have gone up a bit over the years but still reasonable. Food is now served on disposable plates and bowls but we're not coming for the presentation. It's the noodles that shine- recommend the tossed noodles which you can get with a combination of toppings if you can't decide. Sorry no pictures. A very simple and basic environment. Extremely informal. One server who I have to assume is the owner, with her behavior. She was nice and moved fast. The food was cooked decently. The taste was another story. I ordered the tossed noodles with char siu. Lacked in flavor and moistness. It may have been missing steamed bok choy. My wife ordered beef tendon and rice with bok choy. Both our meals came with a bowl of fish broth. For me, the flavors did not work well with each other. It felt imbalanced. I did not enjoy the dish and neither did my wife. Changed ownership through the years but the dishes are the same and brings us back to our old school favorites. They're known for their Tossed Noodle dishes but decided to try their Noodle Soup since I was craving wun tun (reasonably priced). A friend of Craig T. (Gino) took us out to lunch at HKNH. He wanted us to try their made in house noodles. Craig T was kind enough to pick me and my wife up. The restaurant is located in the cultural plaza with the entrance facing Nuuanu Steam. I ordered the beef tendon and pigs feet. This was served over a bed of the house noodles. The soup was served on the side. I really enjoyed the dish. I put a little mixture of shoyu and hot mustered. I didn't need the soup. Gino ordered Choy Sum and Roast Duck from us to share. Also a plain won ton soup. . Won ton - just a dozen of won ton and plain broth. The Won ton has a bouncy texture to the meat. The shrimp was bouncy too. The flavor was authentic with the dry fish powder in it. . Beef tendon and pigs feet is nothing special with flavor more just for the texture. . Noodles - as soon my chop sticks end touches it I knew it didn't pass my authentic bougie chinese texture for bouncy. The noodle was clumped together and was not bouncy slippery texture. It wasn't bad or good just meh like still missing the texture. The love and sweat is put into making it tho. I really appreciate that. The Chef did a great job just my personal preference. . Hot chili oil is amazing tho. It has a nice kick and was spicy. It went well with everything. I loved it and it was memorable. I love the condiments on the table with the hot muster and white peppers and chili paste and etc. . Overall I had a wonderful experience. It was great to take mama to her own food when she grew up in hkg. I know the authentic of hkg won ton noodles and when I mentioned the dry fish powder in the won ton, the owner knew I know how to eat and no further questions asked lol. Today my brothers friend took us out to lunch close to where I live in chinatown. This place I know we can walk but Craig decided to pick us up and drove over there. This place is right by royal kitchen manapua and Sandy's cafe. Called Hong Kong noodle house. We were there at 11am and I chose the won ton noodle in soup, my brother ordered toss noodles with roast duck and char siu and soup on the side. My husband ordered beef tendon with pig feet also soup on the side. Craig friend ordered green onion and beef soup on the side. The tendon here was delicious! However I still haven't found a place with wontons comparable to what Hong Kong can offer... the wontons here didn't have enough shrimp and the skin wasn't thin enough. If you are in the downtown area and are not uptight with the cultured scenery, stop by Hong Kong Noodle House, located on the first floor of the Chinatown Cultural Plaza. Garage parking is paid by the hour, and is plentiful. It's unfortunate that this once busy plaza has turned into a ghost town, but thankfully the restaurants who were thriving pre-Covid are still hanging around. Hong Kong Noodle House is known for their fresh noodles, dumplings, and meats that are roasted in house. Most items we've tried were delectable, and their broth was something different, having a more 'seafood' touch. My wife's pick is the Beef Tendon & Roast Duck Noodle Soup. They cook the tendon til it's soft, gelatinous and TENDER. Definitely a must try for the adventurous souls! For me, I chose the Tossed (egg) Noodle w/Roast Duck & Vegetable (choy sum). Roast duck was flavorful, though slightly dry, and I wished the choy sum was cooked less to maintain its crunch. They tend to cook the veg til it's soft, so be warned. House made shrimp and pork dumplings had a light flavor to them; definitely not what I'm used to as far as saltiness and overall taste, but it goes well with anything you order on the menu and, of course, I had to give them a try. If you like spice, feel free to ask for some of their house made chili oil. Oh and btw, broth is served on the side for the Tossed Noodles. As for the service - the woman serving the dining room was SO HELPFUL. I'm assuming she's the owner. Aunty made sure we were happy with every dish we decided on, and she answered every question I had. She was patient, friendly, and welcoming to all who walked in as well! A true sign of appreciation to each and every patron. Interior of the restaurant, however, left much to be desired. There is no music playing to diffuse the silence, and the tablecloths appear to be from the 90's. Though the restaurant was significantly outdated, the owner seemed to keep a close eye on the tidiness and sanitation of the tables. Thumbs up for me! Downfall, unfortunately, is that they serve everything on disposables. I despise eating off paper plates and take out goods. Yes, maybe that's the cleaner or only option for their small establishment, but for me, it's just not my thing, not to mention it's so wasteful. HK Noodle House became a favorite as soon as I was introduced to it a few years ago. A few things have changed since the pandemic--the ceramic Chinese dishes have been replaced by disposables--but the food still tastes good and menu seems to be the same. I'm so glad that they survived pandemic times. Pretty sure the same auntie & uncle run the place as were there all these years. My favorite things to get here are the stewed beef over either look fun or saimin noodles and a side of gai choi, shared with @Rani R., of course. The wonton min is also good, and in the past I have also picked up frozen, uncooked wonton from them for my folks. There are several other dishes that look interesting to me, but I just crave the stewed beef on the infrequent occasions when we are in the area. Finally got to try HK noodle house! We tried wonton noodles and stewed beef hor fun. Wonton noodles just a 3 because the noodles was not the typical hk wonton noodles but more like saimin noodles. And the wontons were not flavorful enough just more like meatballs. On the other hand stewed beef hor fun was a solid 5! Beef was so tender that it melted in my mouth. Horfun was also cooked to perfect. It just reminds me of beef noodles I had in HK. They're quite generous with the beef and wontons. I got 9 wontons! Well after trying a duck noodle at a different place I wanted to try the Duck Noodle from Hong Kong Noodle House which has been in the Chinese Cultural Plaza for quite some time. I walked in to there and was greeted and found a seat in the corner. I ordered the Duck Noodle which was pretty cheap at $11 and what I got was a bowl of noodles with the Duck in the soup which reminds me of when I was working in Hong Kong for a bit and ate at one of the small side noodle places there the noodles were slightly crunchy although not as much so as some othere places and the duck was not bad although it would have been nicer if it was separate and not in the soup to really taste the flavor of the duck before being in the soup, there were generous portions of choi sum in the soup also. My neighbor told me there are 12 wonton in the soup. I got excited and was ready to jump on the car. Then she told me, no, it may only be 8 or 9. So much for being in wonton heaven. We went anyway and was very happy. First of all, the broth was tasty, not bland. There's a few pieces of choy sum so you feel somewhat healthy. The noodle are thin and a little al dente, like true hong kong style noodles. But the wonton are the stars! It's not too big so it'll fit in your mouth, nicely seasoned with bits of shrimp. Yum! I ordered it with fish balls because we got there around 2:45pm and they were all out of roast duck. I was so sad. And, the fish balls were just okay. I wouldn't order it again. I heard about Hong Kong Noodle House from a friend's Insta story. He being a chef and stating they had the best won tons on the island made me very curious to go try it myself. I went to get take out and only ordered two orders of the won ton soup. The won tons are filled with pork and generous amounts of shrimp, perfectly seasoned. Won tons are plump and boiled to perfection, wrapper being the right consistency and there is a crisp bite to the won ton filling. I didn't count but there must have been at least 12 won tons in an order. Soup is a clear broth that had a seafood pork essence to it. Order came with choi sum and some green onions. I would agree, this was probably one of the best won tons I've ever had. Definitely will go back for more and also want to try other dishes. read more

1st time trying this place, was planning to have wonton noodle soup wherever we ended up today. Located conveniently in Chinese Cultural Plaza but on outer side facing river walk towards Royal Kitchen, not in our usual path. A variety of noodle choices. I stuck w/ usual egg noodles w/ wonton (wun tun) soup. My wife got Lai fun beef stew, daughter egg noodle w/ beef tendon & wonton combo. The good part was that the wontons were very tasty, flavorful, meaty w/ pork & shrimp combo, at least 8 served (I didn't count). Egg noodles seemed fresh. Chinese broccoli nicely blanched but not as tender or tasty. Broth very light. So if you're conscious of limiting your salt/sodium intake, this is the place for you. If you prefer very subtly flavored broth, go here. However, I prefer broth that fills your soul with healing goodness, one that replenishes your health level to 140%. Quantity of noodles & wontons are decent, the the amount of broth also leaves you a bit wanting. To be honest, the broth is on par with the frozen shrimp wonton noodle soup found in Costco - great for a late night snack, but not sending you to a higher plane of existence. The bowls are also similar to that of Costco's except larger (smaller than real bowls in other restaurants), and more convenient for takeout obviously. Therefore, not picture-worthy. Same with the other 2 orders with regards to the broth: bland. Tendons were super tender though, highly enjoyable according to my daughter. But broth wasn't worth finishing. Beef also flavorful but could be more tender. My wife had to add quite a bit of soy sauce, hot sauce etc to have any taste, left most of broth in bowl. I had some, can't imagine what it (didn't) taste like beforehand. Lai fun also very slippery, which didn't bother me since I simply slurped it from the bowl. But it was near impossible for me wife to eat with chopsticks or soup spoon. Lai fun also completely tasteless (but I thought the texture was good).
