I waited for this place to open with high hopes. And - so far, I am not terribly impressed and this makes me sad. We started with the spring rolls. They were Vietnamese - ish. There was meat in the filling along with carrots, bean thread noodles, and other veggies. They were crisp and not to greasy, but underseasoned. And they were served with a sweet and sour sauce as opposed to a more Vietnamese nuoc cham. I had the pho - not a lot of options for this in GJ - and this disappointed. The broth was vastly underseasoned (both for salt and for spices like star anise, cinnamon, cloves, fennel, cardamom and coriander - none of these felt present). And it wasn't beefy. The noodles were not bad and there were plenty of beansprouts - which was a point in their favor. The raw beef was cut too thickly. But - no sriracha, hoisin or fish sauce on the table. I got a tiny plate with a dab of hoisin and sriracha - they told me I could ask for more. But - the bottles, please! My husband had the Vietnamese grilled pork chop rice plate. Definitely the best dish we had. The pork chop was thin and nicely grilled and very generously served. The pickled veggies could have been more pickled and the rice was mushy. But the pork was outstanding. Service was nice. The interior is sort of a mix of modern and sterile. But very, very clean. We saw a lot of Chinese dishes served and they looked OK (except for the rice) - but nothing special. We did hear other diners discuss the need for more seasoning in their dishes. We will return to re-try the pho (I have a Facebook acquaintance that thinks it is very good - so maybe my experience isn't normal) and for my husband to try the Chinese side of the menu. read more

I have always loved this place. It's the most authentic and offers more than any other Asian restaurant. However, tonight I ordered a noodle vermicelli Bowl, with extra fish sauce. They couldn't understand me on the phone, but we eventually got it right. THEN, They charged me $1.50 more than what was advertised online and in their flyer... which they explained was more up to date... Instead of honoring it, they were compete jerks about it! I got there and asked for extra fish sauce, which they wanted to charge me $2.00 for each. I declined. Then they told me my total was $20, something! What?! For one meal?! I'll never go back. Great, fresh food in abundant portions. We usually just order one combination plate or other entree and they're happy to bring us an extra plate since with the usual included soup and egg roll/cheese wonton there's plenty for two. Price is par for this type of food. Service is cheerful and quick. No ersatz tourist trap decor here; it's subdued though perhaps ditching the televisions would be helpful; if I want to watch tv while I eat I can do that at home. read more

If only there was a "no star" review...ordered for us both off of the lunch menu, during lunch time, however, the waitress made a mistake and brought me the dinner portion... rather than just adjusting the meal price and including the sides, they took the "dinner" portion of what I ordered back to throw out only to make me a new "lunch" size portion, which required a wait I didn't really have time for. Ordered takeout after having been here a couple of times in the past. Earlier visits only so-so but decided to give it another try as we liked their soup. Our Order was simply large hot and sour soup, a side of steamed rice, side of fried rice, egg rolls and pan fried teriyaki chicken entree. Rice order messed up as we didn't receive any steamed rice. Furthermore, we didn't receive any condiments or fortune cookies....son disappointed with that. The soup was good and egg rolls were standard fare...okay....here is the main problem...teriyaki chicken entree was awful. Meat (rubber?) was all cheap dark meat cut off thighs. Entree was supposed to be 'Pan Fried Teriyaki' but had zero teriyaki flavor and there is no way this rubber meat had been crispy fried...are you kidding me? Every time I go somewhere new I try to get something that is difficult to mess up for most novice chefs. Today I picked the chicken curry. Started with with egg drop soup, average at best. The curry followed shortly after. I ordered 3/5 hot- it was not spicy in the slightest. Even before I took a bite the oil stated pooling around the edges ( note Photo). The chicken was slimy and possibly undercooked (will know later). The only decent part were the veggies after I cleared them of oil. The fried rice was lackluster. The ambience was industrial and not very inviting. however the space does have potential. Positives: kind guy who worked there And the inexpensive wine that they said was from Palisade which is supporting a local winery. Man grand junction!! We like the food at this establishment very much. However you can NOT call for take out. We have tried more than once. The first time it was continuously busy and I was never able to make it through. Is the place good? No. Is the place bad? No. It's the most run of the mill, common and uninspired Chinese restaurant around. I would typically give this place a 3 star rating as it's not at all bad, the unfortunate part is they close at 8pm. Tonight we tried to dine in at 8:20pm and were VERY rudely turned away because they "Closed at 8pm" however we were welcomed to order takeout... The hours on the door clearly says closing at 9pm. Basically the kitchen was cooking food, we were just turned away from dining in. Anyway, just another drop in the Asian food bucket. Basic food, bad service... I went there for the first time recently. I wanted some pho (fuh) for lunch. I wasn't expecting Ginger to be serving pho because their menu on the web did not include it. However, in this case on the web, it was a situation of "garbage in, garbage out," and they did have it. They offer multipIe kinds (chicken, meatball, beef) of pho. I ordered the sirloin. When it arrived it met my recipe criteria: It was physically hot, I could spice it as I saw fit, Although there were not separate bottles of sriracha, hoisin and soy, they served enough on a small ceramic plate, They also served the expected bean sprout, basil, and lime, The beef was rare & thinly sliced, but cooked further in the broth, The serving size was enough for 2-3 meals. Most important to me, the cook knew how much salt to add to the broth. Too many chefs do not possess this knowledge, or do not employ it, so I was pleasantly surprised. This review is based on the hot & spicy tofu dish, which was excellent - probably the best tofu I've ever had in a restaurant. Very crispy, not too sweet, generously portioned with rice, cheese wonton and egg roll (which I traded my brother for his wonton, since the egg rolls aren't veggie) and a cup of soup with the lunch special. We ate here once and I was not impressed. The food was only okay, sort of a Mongolian BBQ meets Thai Chili. It was super slow, that night my wife and I were the only ones in the restaurant. Great food. Take away one star because I asked to changed my rice out for noodles and even when I offered to pay a fee they wouldn't do it.
