A friend had recommended ginger restaurant to me, so I invited my mother and a friend. We had crispy eggplant, walnut prawns, with a pickle side dish Bon chon, which accompanies some of their dishes. We ordered it separately along with the seafood pancake. I've had seafood pancake many times in San Francisco's, Korean restaurants and this is far superior to anything I've had previously. Delicious, light and flavorful. The crispy eggplant is amazing as well, and the walnut prawns were really good. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat and order other things just for the new flavors offered by this well-run restaurant. The owners and management have put forth a stellar addition to the town of Eureka. Amber, our waitperson was delightful and caring and very sweet. Our food was good, cream puffs for app, with pork bao, she had a Korean chicken spaghetti, and I had a Ginger Galbi. Good presentation and taste. The food came out all out of order which threw me way way off. We got her spaghetti first, then our puffs, then my dish, then our pork bao. The real issue wasn't that our service was rude in anyway, just kind of forgetful. I ordered a San pelegrino, and it never came. So all the way at the end of the meal, I decided to order a Thai tea to combat the spice (good heat), and that never came out till I flagged another employee down. When I ordered the Thai tea I let him know I hadn't received the first drink. I figured this would want him to bring the second one out. Was never offered refills for water. So, we went in and ordered to go. It didn't take too long at all which was great, or not? The food is definitely edible, but nobody was impressed. Everything but the kimchi was bland, boring and just plain blah. We've never had kimchi before so our opinion doesn't matter here. Unfortunately I would not have been able to eat my bulgogi at all if it weren't for the onions. The onions saved the day! The beef was dry and, well, bland. So bland. Maybe, just maybe that could have been because I had zero sauce left in my container after they made the awful choice of stacking all 8 or so boxes of our other food on top on mine and then another container like mine on top. Not cool, my dudes! The guy that helped us was very polite and helpful and I did tip 20%, which I do and don't regret. The ambiance is very eclectic! The doors are very cool. They were playing Willie Nelson the whole time we were there. I mean, who doesn't love Willie once in a while?! I don't think we will be ordering again because we got 6 different dishes and all were a disappointment. I think that's enough of a chance, unfortunately. It's too expensive to keep trying. The food is soooo good! We had the cumin lamb and crispy eggplant, and both were fantastic. Very fresh! The beef was thinly sliced and delicate. The eggplant was so light and crispy. The ambiance is a little formal, but the food speaks for itself! read more

GREAT dining experience!!! Everything was SUPER fresh and delicious. Good portions. Quality ingredients. We shared 3 appetizers and 4 entrees with plenty of leftovers to takeaway. All 3 of us were very happy with everything! (Be sure to try their tasty chicken skewers!!) Nicely decorated interior. VERY clean! Staff was efficient and friendly. They worked around my weird allergies and their menu is nicely diverse, including variety for gluten free, and levels of spice temperature. Plenty of on site, off street parking, which is a bonus downtown Eureka. We will be returning, and already have discussed what we will try on our next visit. They are adding Hot Pot tables soon so new menu items are coming!!! read more

We've been drinking going by this since it opened wondering if we should try it. Recently 2 different people recommended it to me in the same week, so we decided to give it a try. First, it has a beautiful entry with gold doors and the initial lobby looks good. The rest looks a bit fast food-ish with vinyl booths. The guy on duty was friendly and seated us promptly. He seemed to be in charge of 1/2 the restaurant and taking care of to-go orders but he did pretty well. We ordered an appetizer and two dinner entrees to share. We were impressed with the banchan (pickled cabbage, jicama noodles) it was a nice touch. For our appetizer we got pork potstickers and were not impressed. Dough was thick and meat was not flavorful. For entrees we chose the bulgogi and braised pork belly. Now, those were good! I think the thing to remember when you go there is this is a Korean restaurant not Chinese. Clean, nice ambience with good service and quick food. Fun jazzy music playing in a revamped space that used to be China Buffet. Got chicken skewer app, was yummy. We got bulgogi (totally solid choice), Kim chee (very nice) and the fried taro (yum! we thought it would have a sauce, but it's just fried taro bits). If you're craving Korean food, this isn't the place. Everything was bland and watered down. Some of their menu items were to no avail. For the price that i paid, i expected quality home cooked Korean food. This is far from the Korean dishes that are served at authentic Korean restaurant. Woot woot! I visited this place in November and was absolutely blown away. The service was incredible, and the food was amazing! I especially loved the hot pot . the server even came out with a torch to melt the cheese, which was such a great touch to the experience ! It doesn't get better than this. My experience was fantastic. Hot pot is one of my favorite foods so I had high hopes and this place did not disappoint. Looking forward to returning for the fondue service. :-) our waitress was kind and attentive. And the restaurant was cute and clean. Found this place by accident and glad to see Korean here in Humboldt, so was hoping for good food. Service is great, prompt, and amazing attitude. For only being open a few weeks, they're dialed in. We ordered the pork belly, army soup, and Jap Chae. Jap Chae noodles were over cooked severely and there was little flavor. The soup was good and a lot to eat. The best part of the meal was hands down the pork belly. The flavor would rival most Bay Area establishments. We'll try it again with hopes for 3/3 good eats! read more

Awesome food, interesting fusion. We had a few dishes and then finish with the chocolate fondue. Nice ambiance, but the weird thing is it was empty, way better than most Chinese spots in the areas. First time there and enjoyed my experience. Just sharing the below as constrictive criticism. I ordered braised hot pot chicken. The description read "braised chicken with peppers, onions and potatoes in a brown sauce" What I got was basically a plate of popcorn chicken (bits of deep fried breaded chicken with a couple of potatoes. No onions. No peppers. No sauce. Braising involves liquid and this had none. Definitely not braised. I asked the server if I had gotten something else by mistake but she assured me that I got what I ordered. She said that deep fried food absorbs the sauce and offered me an array of sauces on the side. With all that said, my meal was actually quite tasty although I never would have ordered it had I know it was breaded and fried. I will definitely return (but will order something else.). Hoping management might consider working towards a more accurate description of their menu items. read more

For non discerning palates, the food seems ok. Our table included Japanese. Thai, Koreans, Laotians and a couple of Anglos. The Crispy Egg Plant was good as was the Bulgogi . One dish was coolish so we sent it back. The rest of the dishes were not appealing, especially the ones that had this dry powdery stuff on the outside. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. We see that it gets some good reviews, but my advice would be to rework the menu. Don't go expecting authentic Korean food. It's Chinese based food. We had a large group and pretty much everyone was disappointed. Since we were treating, so were we and it was also not cheap. The servers were pleasant and tried their best. read more

My family of 4 came to Ginger restaurant, seeing reviews and thinking," Oh, this has the be great food." We came around 7:00. Me and my dad ordered the Korean Beef ramen, my sister getting the Orange chicken, Pork bao buns. The ramen was a huge serving, the noodles were undercooke, as well as tasteless. they should have a kids serving. The orange chicken , the only good thing we ordered, was crispy, with a citrusy orange tangy sauce. They only had one waitress going around taking orders at a very busy hour. She was doing her job well and earned the place 2 stars. The third star from the decorations and ambience. Honestly it was pretty authentic, music could've been better. I've been there four times and every time it has been a great experience. The inside is updated and the atmosphere was great. They have a nice selection of drinks including beer on tap. Try the Crispy Eggplant just once and you'll crave it forever after -- although it's best eaten on-site rather than taking it home, because it tends to get soft and not so crispy the longer it's in the container. I am hopeful that my next review for Ginger will be 5 stars. It's only been open 2 weeks, and they're still getting their rhythm down. For starters, our server. Mia, was great! She was pleasant, helpful, and professional. Our appetizer, Korean Corn Cheese, was a delightful start. The 4 of us opted to each order one (vegetarian) dish to share among us. First to arrive was the crispy eggplant, and it was the star of the show. Delicate, not greasy, and crisped to perfection. Next came the Ginger Stir-Fried with Green Beans. The green beans were a bit overcooked to my taste, but the rest of the party loved them. Our third entree was King Oyster Mushroom Bao Buns. I'm used to a lighter steamed bao bun. These were a bit dense and seemed to me to be undercooked. The filling, which you added yourself, was perfect: spicy and complex with just the right amount of sauce. Finally the 'chef's favorite' (according to the menu) Fried Taro and Pumpkin with Salted Egg Yolk Sauce, didn't do it for me. I have no idea how it is supposed to taste, but it was rather bland and didn't stay warm once it got to the table. I'm sure things will be tweaked, and I'll find my favorites. It was a new dining experience for me, which I always appreciate. I'll be back! read more

I had a very good experience here. Came in on a Tuesday evening. Service was wonderful. The man and the woman who helped us were both lovely, helpful and attentive. The food came out quickly and was really good. We ordered the tenderloin appetizer (this may have been my favorite), the Galbi (short rib), pork bao, and Gingers dolsot (bibimbap - sp?). The bibimbap was not the best I've had, but was still good. Everything else was excellent. I was so hopeful when I saw a new Asian restaurant pop up. God knows we need a more diverse array of restaurants in Humboldt!! I was not disappointed! read more

Food was very good but things were missing, the appetizer you get with meals was missing one from our table. Asked for their complementary tea never got and never got the bone broth that was to come with all three of our meals. It was not busy at all. I have been a waitress before and I do get surprised by how waiters and waitresses act out here it is almost like the customer does not exist. He was nice when we did talk to him just could have been more attentive. He did do good on my friends oreder with her tons of allergies .The decor is great and it is a spotless place.
