Star Wok is our go to spot for delicious Chinese takeout. The food always tastes freshly made, Orange chicken is the best we've found around town. They also give generous portions for a reasonable price so we can usually share 3 combos between the 4 of us in our family, including hungry boys. We've only gotten food to go but nice that they have seating inside if you want. They also have party size trays if you're trying to feed a bigger group. The food here is so delicious! I love the portion sizes too, it can feed me for at least 2 meals. I usually order combo B (2 items) and get half/half for the entree and side dish so I can choose up to four items. I love that this place is also a lot cleaner than the other similar bento-style restaurants. Growing up, my family and I had a lot of stomach aches and food poisoning from eating at similar places, so it's nice to know that Star Wok is clean. Service is okay, not exceptional but not bad. Walk in and smell the MSG, and you will find that everyone loves Chinese food. And just about every neighborhood has one. Here in Claremont, I was surprised to find such a staple. If you don't already know, this college town is not afraid to turn its nose up at the mundane and provincial. The intellectual elite have no time for such basic things. And yet, even here, you will find the chinese fast food joint thriving. Come hungry, because you will receive your money's worth here. At least two or three meals worth it if you aren't a big eater. The combo B, which gives you two items, is at least 3 pounds of food. You have to go orange chicken and broccoli beef, but if you're feeling adventurous, go for the chicken katsu or bbq pork. Remember you'll get quantity, the quality is good enough. This isn't Mr. Chow or even Panda Inn, just good, honest, and plentiful food for a proletariat or student. I cannot believe how long it has taken me to try this yummy fast food Chinese restaurant, as I had been ignoring it because I enjoy more authentic Chinese spots, but I finally decided to give it a chance during the pandemic in order to continue supporting Asian-owned businesses. I am so glad I finally did! Now it's my go-to when I am craving noodles and/or rice or when I don't have much time. Their food is good; it feels freshly made. I was so confused when I went up to order/ we wanted two bowls and she grabbed a styrofoam container and I said rice she said no- two items. So we went for the noodles-- Essentially, we were a bother. We should have just walked out. I said sweet and sour shrimp and she didn't acknowledge. Then we just asked for the veggies and teriyaki chicken. I just decided to order nothing else or she will get angry. Felt like she was being disturbed. She said - I can't hear you by the way because of plexiglass (she pointed)-- once we were ready to check out...I'm like well start with that lol! Very strange experience! I am struggling writing this review because my family and I have frequented this establishment for over 15 years. The food is good for the price you pay. However, the interaction with the cashier/attendant has reached the end of the line with me. In the past, I would be snapped at for not asking for teriyaki sauce for the teriyaki chicken soon enough or when I asked her for the cookie that usually comes with the meal (my son loves those cookies). Normally, I would just pay and be on my way. Yesterday, she reached a new level of rudeness by not giving me the correct change. She shorted me only 3 pennies, but when I asked her about it she stated that she did not have it. I then said, "Then I'll take a nickel." I was half-joking. She then huffed and said something under her breath and grabbed her tip jar and pulled out 3 cents. She handed the money to me and said, "Give that back to me!" She was referring to the siracha packets she had given me and said, "I gave you too many!" I then preceded to hand her back the packets and told her I would not be returning. This is the first time in my over a half century of eating out that I have ever said that. This was an establishment that I came to more out of convenience than anything else. It is shame to lose a customer who spent $40 to $50 per visit at least 15 times a year to feed his family for a mere few cents. Do better, Star Wok! read more

The people here are very kind. When I walk in I greet them with a smile and a polite attitude and they do the same every time. The people who leave bad reviews here seem like the yelping type and I'm sure they aren't the most pleasing people. They always give amazing portions to where I have leftovers every single time and the food is amazing. The fish and chicken katsu are so affordable and you get the most tender delicious protein. It is a food line service, either speak loud enough for them to hear you through the glass or point. English is already a second language for a lot of people, the plexiglass is also very great because it prevents people's hot breath and saliva. This has been my go to place for several years, but my experience today may send me elsewhere. Prices went up last year, which has to be expected, but now it seems the serving container has also shrunk. So pay more, get less. What's happening in the kitchen has me more worried. The teriyaki chicken was so salty as to be inedible. They used to ask you if you wanted sauce, but that's also a thing of the past. Fast, reasonably priced, clean, and convenient. The food is good for the price. I am particularly fond of their hot & sour and egg drop soups... especially during cool and rainy times. I also enjoy the Kung pao and spicy chicken. You can order al a carte (which is what I do when trying to avoid the carbs) but the plate specials ensure you get a heaping portion of rice or noodles. As a Native New Yorker I have had my share of cheap Chinese food. Some good, some bad. This place is BAD. I purposely waited more than 24 hours to write the review to bake sure I didn't get sick from it. I went in for an early lunch 11:15am ordered the eggplant tofu and chow menu to go. The chow menu noodles were room temperature and the texture appeared and tasted as if they were leftovers from the day before. The tofu was dried out. This ended up going in the trash. read more

I'm sorry to say that they haven't--the staff is just as incomprehensibly and offensively rude as ever, and they now become shockingly obnoxious if one dares to ask for a soup bowl, a second foam plate, etc. These items must cost them a couple of cents per piece, yet the staff have no problem chastising customers like dogs if they request them. So here is the scenerio... last night I go to Massage Envy to loosen up and when I get out it's FREEZING! and i'm not in the mood to go home and cook since I've been up since like 3:44am so I see "Star Wok" and decide meh I'll try it out. Only one other person in the joint and they are cleaning up to make their way home this was about 7:00pm-ish and they close I think at 8:00pm. I ordered the Orange Chicken and Crabmeat and Cream Cheese Rangoons also came with fried rice. Fried Rice - had a burnt taste to it Rangoons - had a distinct 'fishy' taste to it BLEH Orange Chicken - taste fresh and had a pleasing sauce on it Although the service was fine and friendly... Compared to other "Chinese" take out joints, they are pretty standard. Priced the same as most places. They have good variety of food Their food is actually pretty good, but doesn't make me crave them. Get the BBQ pork and BBQ chicken!! When I crave greasy, inexpensive chinese food, I come to Star Wok. It is pretty convenient, right next to Vons. I am also really indecisive, so I end up getting the 2-combination plate (2 dishes + fried rice), which can feed me for 2 days. The orange chicken is not as good as Panda Express, but the other dishes are pretty good (more authentic than Panda's). the servers are as nice as chinese servers can get. And they pack the styrofoam containers with food to the point where its almost exploding. There are a few tables for customers to eat at, but I always take my food to go. BBQ Pork is usually lean yet flavorful, not super fatty. This location is tastes much cleaner and is less heavy than Tasty Goody. To make your meal even lighter, ask your server to take the portions from the top. Otherwise they will scoop from the bottom where the sauce/grease is. The servers portion your meal by your gender and size. For example, I always get 1.5 to 2 times the amount of food my mother or girlfriend receives. read more
