My cousins and I had a girls night dinner here. Despite not having a reservation and Gino's being full we were seated quickly. Our waiter Patrick was awesome. He helped us with menu choices and explained the dishes we weren't sure about. He made our girls dinner fun. The food was really good. The portions were the perfect size. We didn't have any leftovers but that was good. It left room for dessert! I had seafood cannelloni and it had the best cream sauce. One cousin had filet and it was cooked to perfection. I ordered from here after all the good reviews and was disappointed. It may have been an off night, but I ordered the eggplant parmesan and it was inedible. The eggplant was hard and undercooked and inedible. The eggplant was so hard that it was challenging to cut it wth my knife. I also found the sauce to be overly sweet. I did order their famous bread and found it to be good, but that was the only edible portion. The staff was very friendly, but I rated two stars because I was unable to eat any of the meal I ordered. read more

I went here for the first time last night looking for a good date night spot and was not at all disappointed. Agree with other reviewers in that it is VERY unassuming from the street, but the inside is very nice and a "traditional italian" atmosphere. It was a little loud, but nothing that would make me not want to return. Our waiter was fabulous and took extensive time and care to help us select a bottle of wine to order, was not pushy about the super expensive options and really tried to help us find what we liked by bringing us a couple samples to try before we ordered. As a server myself, I really notice and appreciate a server going above and beyond for their guests. That guy gets 5 stars. My food was wonderful, the white cream sauce on my Tortellini Carbonara was decadent and delicious. My partner's food I did not like as much, but she did. She had ordered the Chicken Parmigiana The marinara tasted just a little funny to me. Also ordered the Minestrone soup as a starter, which was not the best I've ever had, but it was good. The food was delicious. We had a reservation and sat in the bar on a Saturday night. It was so obnoxiously loud that I could barely hear what my friends were saying. They seated two large parties in the bar. We couldn't even hear the live piano music, which I assume was lovely. It didn't help that people were standing all around our table while we tried to eat. Horrible service. Over priced for nothing special food. Waiter stood 5 feet from my table my entire meal and I had to ask for tea. My calamari came out before my salad so my calamari got cold while I ate my salad. My entree was bland at best short of calling it bad. I Won't go back. read more

My friends and I went to Gino's last night. We've all been there before at some point in the last years. Well last night was a totally disappointing experience. Service was bad and the food was so so. At one point in our stay we didn't know who was our waiter. The bar tender started as the waiter and took our order. Then she said some else would be our waiter. Well the someone else was just helping out and we were not actually assigned to him. So we had to flag down whoever was passing our table for water, bread etc. The food had no seasonings. One of my friends had to get up go to the bar to get water refill. Well I guess we will never eat there again. Two friends ordered the lasagna and one took half home because it wasn't very good. I ordered the Shrimp Champagne. It was pretty bland but I did have a great helping of shrimp. The last friend ordered a filet with a bake potato. The potato came with nothin in it nor did anyone offer potato toppings. We had to ask for butter. What a waste of our night. read more

This place is pretty yummy. I went there during a business trip and got my food to go, but the place was bustling on a Wednesday night. It seemed a bit loud, so don't go looking for a quiet, romantic place. But it seemed like a fun place to go for a night out with a group. I wanted something light, so I got the capri salad and salmon with spaghetti. The capri salad was ok, could have used more basil, but the tomatoes were awesome. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was absolutely delicious. The marinara sauce was a little too sweet for my taste, but not bad. I would definitely go back. read more

Bad service downgrades the quality of the food. Our waiter dictated that he "wasn't ready" to take our order yet despite having waited for 20 minutes to talk to him once we finally flagged him down. He also forgot and never delivered part of our order. I would like to think that he was just busy, but there were periods that he was just standing around instead of checking on his tables that were lacking basic staples- such as bread and water. He was simply a bad waiter that did not care about what he was doing. If Gino's wants to continue its historically great reputation as one of the best Italian restaurants in Baton Rouge, the wait staff needs some discipline and training in customer attentiveness. read more

Gino's is one of my favorites sports in Baton Rouge. The food is incredible and the service is always on point.

Wow. First night in BR and they take me to Gino's. we started with the Arrancino (sp). It was awesome. Thought the bread was just ok, not worth paying for. My entre was incredible. Wine list is a real gem. Found a wine on there that is impossible to find but sadly we got the last bottle. Going back soon. read more

I've been there several times, and I've never been disappointed. It's top notch to me. Delicious. The Veal Parmesan is my favorite. I never order the specials, because I've just not ventured out. Best Italian food in the city. I have been going there for decades and have never had a meal short of excellent at Gino's.

Gino's is one of a dying breed of family operated and owned restaurants left in Baton Rouge. These establishments are being inched out as the big impersonal chains are booming in. At Gino's you will dine in a unique, rustically romantic, candle lit atmosphere with Italian music playing softly in the background. I lived in Italy for years and Gino's is the closest I've come to returning. I will not order Veal Parmesan at any other restaurant, because it has never lived up to the Gino's dish. This is not "cookie cutter Italian" this is the real deal, and yes, the families real Italian Mama is in the kitchen. And, now Mama Marino is training her grandson, and his cooking proves that this great Baton Rouge Italian restaurant tradition will stand the test of progress and time. read more

This restaurant is all about the money!!! We had brought guests to have dinner tonight. It was storming outside and our guest had used his umbrella to usher guests into the restaurant. Gino had come out and we mentioned to the hostess, someone should be out front helping get people in due to the rain. She just sneered at the suggestion. My husband had to ask for towels to dry our friend's clothes. I had called ahead and made reservations. We had not finished our salads and the main entrees were brought to the table. So at the point we seemed to be rushed. The waiter had mentioned it was a slow night in the restaurant. After finishing our entrees, we order coffee and desserts. The check was dropped off at the same time. Next thing we know the hostess comes to our table and asked us if we could finish up within 20 minutes, they had this table reserved then!!! There were other tables empty in the restaurant. We were so embarrassed that we had invited guests that we were still visiting at this time. As we left the restaurant my husband asked Gino if there was a time limit on the tables. He answered "No" The hostess seems to be stumbling to explain her actions. Gino at no time ever cared to ask who we were or offer an apology. We have been coming into this restaurant for years but i assure you we will never return again, nor will our friends!! read more

I'm from New York, where they have some of the best Italian food in the world. And I've eaten all over Italy, where they have the best Italian food in the world. And I have to say honestly, that Gino's ranks right up there as one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever eaten at. My husband and I were visiting friends in the area who suggested the place and we ate there last night. We are still talking about the food this afternoon. Gino's 89 year old mother does the cooking. It is fantastic. I loved the marinara sauce. My friend was stealing the pasta off my plate with that great marinara sauce! My husband had the lamb chops. He's from New Zealand, and he said they were probalby the best lamb chops he's ever had! The grilled fish was delicious (I had the mixed seafood platter and got to try 3 different kinds - great idea). The almond cake is a must-have dessert. The place was packed on a Monday night, and the former Governor of Louisiana was at the next table. That's saying something. If you are in Baton Rouge and want a great meal, this is the place. read more
