Visited Portobello's for a nice Sunday brunch. My overall experience was great. Since I visited right before the holidays, the restaurant was full of Christmas decor and there was even a Santa present for pictures. The staff was very friendly and provided great service. I absolutely loved my food. The chicken fried chicken was fried to perfection and the gravy had all the right flavors. The biscuit resembled toast but it was also delicious. I only had one mimosa which was just enough. I can't wait to visit again for brunch. read more

A couple of friends and I went to Portobello's on New Years Eve for dinner. I have never eaten here but two of my friends recommended it since they came here for dinner for the New Year's Eve pior and enjoyed their experience. We made reservations for 7:30 and all arrived and had to still wait a while before we got seated. We all put in our drink and food orders right away since we noticed there was only two waiters working and it did take a while to get our food but that was expected since it was a holiday. We got our food out first before we even got our drinks. The chicken parmigiana was good and the spinach dip was good as well but I have had better. The drink tasted good and was refreshing. Our first visit to Portobello's grill! What a pleasant surprise, we ordered for pick-up, food was ready upon arrival. Food was still hot when we unpackaged, ready to eat! My husband and I shared the Chicken Ciabatta sandwich and fries, daughter had the Caesar salad and BF had the spaghetti. First, the portions are huge, we had plenty sharing. Chicken sandwich was cooked perfectly with layers of flavor. Caesar salad was plentiful, lots of chicken. So the plate of spaghetti/meatballs. Huge. So much food and every meal was delicious! Hysterical - a single biscuit, small chicken tender, and chopped up hash brown are $17? Strike two. As soon as we got our drinks we asked for Brad for our table and the waiter swore he'd bring us some, then didn't... Strike three. I've never taken the time to write a review(shame on me!) , but I couldn't let this experience be passed up! We were in town for a baseball tournament and completed our games right at dinner rush hour. We called multiple (5-6) places that had a more kid friendly atmosphere asking for availability and got told they couldn't accommodate or gave us an outrageous wait since we had a party of 30+. We called Portobellos and were told, " head this way and we will have your tables ready when you get here." Once we arrived the manager and the staff were TOP NOTCH. They went above and beyond to accommodate and take care of the 30+ (15 crazy kiddos!)! Next time we are in town, we won't think twice about where we are going! Portobello's it is! We enjoyed our meal and the Jazz artist immensely! The pork chop I ordered was a perfectly cooked medium. The sauce was complimentary and I especially enjoyed the small potatoes and the roasted brussel sprouts were on target. People should really try roasted brussel sprouts if they were turned off at some point by the boiled preparations. We stared with the hot crab and toast and wife enjoyed the fettuccine alfredo and crab fried dumplings. All this accompanied by the beautiful song stylings by Ashley Orlando on the ukulele. BAD SERVICE. She was the server girl with the nose piercing. She didn't do a great job and seemingly tipped herself along with charging us additional fees. She was supposed to bring money back as change and pocketed about $6 of the change. did not manage to keep up with a party of 6. She messed up our bills and did not ask us for drinks as we had to do so ourselves. I had to right on the receipt "Terrible service". Been coming to Portobello's for years and it has always been a consistent and dependable fave for brunch. I love the location and that there a few outside tables because who doesn't like an al fresco moment on a pretty day? They have all of your usual brunch players like shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles, but you can also order items from their main menu. The hot crab dip is a great starter if you're into all things cheesy and delicious. There are bottomless mimosas which, if you've read any of my other brunch-centric reviews, you know is a gold star. I'm also a huge fan of the service here; I'm always greeted kindly and have a great server. It's been a while since I've stopped by for dinner, so I definitely need to come again and refresh my palate on those dishes. read more

My husband and I sat at the bar Friday night. The food was really fantastic. The service was also very good. However, the lighting in the bar is not moody at all! It almost felt surgical. It was so bright in my eyes and felt like "last call" instead of stay longer, drink more and spend more. Seems like an easy but necessary adjustment. This entree came with a huge piece of fried chicken on top of a freshly baked biscuit topped with a tasso rosemary gravy and a side of creole potato hash. So much great flavor here. The biscuit was my favorite part. It was super soft and buttery. I'm not sure I would order this dish again though because the chicken was a bit too salty. Not satisfied at all. My husband and I visited the Jones Creek location for dinner and the food was absolutely horrible. It started with us being seated and the water glasses that were on the table were dirty, not to mention the flies that were in the restaurant. The entire time we were swatting the flies. The server suggested us to get a blood Mary, after waiting 15 mins he arrived back to the table only to tell us they were out. We both ordered the ribeye. I asked before ordering if the fries were steak fries and was told yes. My husband steak was bloody -- he ordered well. My fries were hard and cold and wasn't steak fries. The steak was not seasoned and was awful. The server asked how was the food and I told him not good. He apologized but didn't try to correct it. The next time I spend $138 on dinner it will not be at this place!!! I wish I could give it zero stars. read more

Took my mother and sister for Mother's Day on Sunday. The reservation was honored and we w ere seated immediately upon arrival. The hostesses and manager welcomed the ladies and took great care to help my 96 yo mother with a seat she was pleased with in the bar. Tho it was a bit noisy it want so bad that we couldn't converse without raising our voices. On a busy day like this one I wouldn't recommend sitting in there. The restaurant offered a glass of champagne to the ladies even tho they both ordered a cocktail. Since all they offered at 12:30 was a brunch menu we were able to find some nice choices. My mother enjoyed the eggplant and my sister and I chose the eggs with crawfish. Unfortunately because they were so busy our eggs came out cold and we had to send them back. The multiple wiatresses were very sorry. Took our plates and remade them quickly. The manager was so apologetic she comped those dishes, and wanted to make sure that everything else was to our liking. When leaving they all thanked us again for our patronage and again aplogized for the issue. I love this restaurant and will continue to frequent it. read more

Came on a fun night to hear some Sinatra on the patio. The food was divine!! I had the salmon with roasted carrots and they were absolutely delicious. The service was quick and the servers were super attentive. We did a price fixe menu and also got an appetizer and dessert. I had the mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes and they were perfectly ripe. So I went to Portobello's for brunch today! Getting there was a straight shot and once I arrived, parking was a breeze as it's located in Bocage with a lot of other local shops. I'd made a reservation via Open Table and the only seating available was for the bar but once I got there Lilly was able to seat me at a table. Great service! Portobello's is a fusion between Italian food and Cajun food, but I wanted breakfast so I had the chicken and waffles and mimosa. The chicken and waffles had great flavor, I just wished they would have fried the chicken a little crispier! The waffle was perfect though. Light and fluffy and golden brown. I didn't put the strawberry butter that comes with it on anything but I did try it at least and it was actually yummy. The mimosa was just your typical oj and champagne, no complaints here. The complimentary bread was nice and soft and went well with the olive oil, herbs and cheese blend. You could easily cut through the bread and didn't have to shake the table. The service by Alli was phenomenal and they even have complimentary cotton candy! I'm not a huge cotton candy (or any candy) eater but it was a nice surprise. I love Italian food so I will definitely be back to see what other options I'll love next! read more

We don't live around this restaurant and rarely leave our little bubble, but we will to eat here because we enjoy it so much! The food is really good and very reasonably priced. The service is always great and we enjoy the relaxed but still elevated atmosphere! I was initially introduced to Portobellos by friends and since we have joined them several times, gone on our own, and brought new friends and family. So far, everyone has enjoyed it and was happy we came! I came here with some co workers to take the new employees for lunch. This was the second time I have been here. I had the shrimp and crab Alfredo and it was rich and creamy and very well seasoned. I've recently ordered the steakhouse burger for the first time. It was way better then I excepted 10/10! I'll be honest that's not what this review is about. I'm not one to do reviews even if I have bad service but I must say this location and team have really made my night. I order a steakhouse burger again for pickup because I don't stay far. When I picked my order up and made it back home to eat I realized there was no meat on the burger. I was completely understanding because it happens! I'm sure they were busy. When I called to inform them they 1. Took responsibility and didn't pass the blame 2. Apologized 3. Was very kind and immediately looked for solutions to fix the problem. Again I don't stay far at all, 5 minutes at the most. Instead of making me drive to pick up my order they got my address and told me they would bring it to me so I wouldn't have to make a double trip. We had a table for 4 on a Friday night. The charbroiled oysters appetizer was the worst I've had in BR. All 6 oysters were literally each the size of a nickel and were completely dry in their shells. The duck popper appetizer was also very small but our friends enjoyed it. My wife ordered the salmon which looked great and she really enjoyed. I had the veal parmigiana which was average at best; the veal was small, thin and barely breaded. I would definitely not recommend that dish. One of our friends ordered the Veal marsala but was served eggplant parmigiana. The manager acknowledged the mistake and didn't charge for her meal but her marsala didn't arrive until the rest of us were finished eating. The atmosphere was nice but the food was definitely not worth the price paid. I will not return there. read more

i came for a friend's birthday party on a thursday night. first, it took about an hour for appetizers. the raviolis had clearly sat under the lamp for awhile. we then ordered our entrees, which took another hour to come out. my pasta had 5 pieces of chicken and was so DRY. like i was chewing on it for awhile. my friend had gotten corn grits, and it had tasted like cigarettes. like overwhelmingly. my friend had a burger ordered medium well, it was red and extremely rare. we had a table of 12 and ALL of us had an issue with food. we had to send multiple plates back. my other friend has brussel sprouts, and it was so burnt. i don't know what was going on in the kitchen but i mean, it was just an overall horrible experience. service was good, it was really all the food. i had gotten recommended this place but i don't think i can go back. one extra star for the drinks. pretty good. luke is good bartender! read more

Met a couple of friends here while in Baton Rouge. Location great. Ambience nice. Wait staff exceptional. Manager very attentive and very helpful offering beverage choices and menu info. We ordered Meatballs and spaghetti, spare ribs, and veal parmigiana. We were all VERY happy with our selection. Appreciated fresh grated, at the table, Parmesan cheese and not the bottled or canned cheese. They provided some of the best table bread I have had and definitely THE best olive oil sauce I have ever had. To top all this off, the restaurant had a happy hour where any wine by the glass was half price and I have never seen that. Uped my wine choice! I will def come by to the restaurant when in Rouge. Portobellos is one of my back up restaurants, either when you need to go with an old faithful sort of meal or when people just can't make up their minds. I went with some friends for lunch, and all of the staff members were super friendly when you walk in. I found my party and we had to wait a little while for a drink order. The server was nice, and she gave us enough time, almost a little too much on a time budget. We found out at that point that they were out of pizzas for the day, probably something that should have been communicated upon arrival for menu selection purposes. But you can't go wrong with a salad. You can order extra dressing if you wish, but the size you are given is probably plenty. Overall, i usually enjoy Portobellos, especially this location. In search of vegetarian and non vegetarian combinations restaurant, I come across this restaurant is good for both. No the best but acceptable good quality. At least the vegetarian food is not just salad but cook food. The restaurant has the bar area and some of our members in our table ask for single malt scotch. They do have a few selection. We start our night with Caprese Stuff Portobello- portobellos roasted with fresh tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella provolone cheese blend. Drizzled with balsamic glaze. This is good portobello which match their name. Our second starter is the Crawfish with cheese. This one also very good. This restaurant has good bread before the meal and very good olive oil. I also have a cup smoked chicken and sausage gumbo. It is different than normal gumbo. My entrée is the twin fillet merlot. It is two medallion filets with merlot wine and mushroom reduction sauce. The only mistake they do is I ask for medium and they cook the medallion with butterfly cut. Which is take away the meat taste can do. Overall service is good. Close out a bit slow but expected for this romantic restaurant. read more

I love Portobello's grill. I've never had a bad meal there and the food is consistently good between locations. I usually stick to the eggplant remoulades appetizer as my entree with a side Caesar. My hubs ordered Grilled Blackened Redfish with red peppered corn and creamed spinach. Absolutely sublime. Finish the meal with Rasberry drizzled cheesecake! Heaven! The Bocage location is a little nicer (more elegant) than the Coursey location, although both are basically casual dining atmosphere.
