Once a month, I meet with a group of sweet ladies for lunch and we like to try a different restaurant each time. For April, we chose Gino's. The waiter who served us wasn't particularly personable, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt--maybe he was just having a rough day. He took our drink orders and asked if we would like some "Laurence bread." We had not heard of it, and it wasn't clear whether it was complimentary or not. He recommended we get three orders (two pieces per order) to cover our group of six. At that point, we realized it wasn't complimentary--but that was okay. Most of us ordered from the daily lunch specials. I chose the veal, which came with a salad. The salad was good. One friend, however, said her salad had entirely too much dressing on it, and was not enjoyable. When my entrée arrived, I was disappointed to find a lone, dry fried veal cutlet with no sauce and a side of spaghetti with just a dab of sauce for color. The lunch was $18.95. I requested extra sauce for the veal and my bread roll--he brought some--cost $1.50. Oddly, Parmesan cheese wasn't offered, which is standard at most Italian places. One friend asked the man refilling our drinks, but he never returned. She eventually asked the waiter, who did bring some. Honestly, I'm surprised we didn't find a charge on our bill for that too. As we boxed up our leftovers (though I'm not even sure why), one friend who had the chicken shish kebab--and had only eaten about half--was asked why she wasn't taking hers home. She replied, "It came to the table dry--I can't imagine it reheated." When the checks arrived, one friend was mistakenly charged for a salad that should have been included with her meal, but she caught it, and they corrected it. Another friend, who hadn't ordered from the lunch menu, was charged $25 for her meal plus an additional fee for her salad, which wasn't included. And each of us was charged $3.25 for a single roll. I understand that prices are up and dining out is a luxury, but this felt a bit steep for a meal that was, at best, mediocre. Side note: Two ladies ordered meals to take home for their husbands, and I gave my leftovers to mine. All three were unimpressed.

Expensive for what it is, but it's good Italian food in the Baton Rouge area. I got the Italian Sausage meal (sauce and sausage not pictured) with a Caprese Salad to go, and it was $40, which I thought was very expensive for the portion size. The noddles, sausage and sauce were amazing. It comes with two sausage links and tons of sauce. Even though I had it to-go, I feel like I still got the delicious quality of food. I wish there was more for the price.. I feel like it was only a cup of noodles, but oh well. The Caprese Salad was average but only two pieces. I did like the thickness of the cheese though. I ordered and within 25 minutes it was ready to go. You have to walk to the bar to pick up to-go orders, and this gives you a chance to see the restaurant. I liked this because most restaurants have you pick up to-go orders at the front, so you aren't able to see the resturant. It's an old Italian vibe with fireplaces and a dark lighting inside. Very authentic Italian, just wish portion sizes were bigger because I was still hungry after.

Tuesday dinner, 6/22/21 first time visit. Easy 5 review. Atmosphere, service and food were equally amazing. I was here with a friend (who is local) for dinner around 7:30pm. Everything was fantastic, the food was incredible. For me I am pretty traditional when visiting an Italian restaurant for the first time, chicken parmigiana. It was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The recommended wine, Plumjack Cabernet was great too! Kudos to you & your staff!

    Good for families?

Yes we've brought our children there. It definitely leans more towards a classic, fine dining atmosphere but is good for the entire family.

The problem began almost immediately when we were told we could wait outside, and a cocktail waitress would serve us drinks as we waited. We waited, and we waited about 20 minutes to flag someone down for water, not once did any waitress actually engage with us. We knew we should have left after this, but it was 8 pm on a Friday night before an LSU football game so we figured maybe it's just busy. We had to move tables to get into someone's view, because we were straight up ignored the entire time. Later someone's child literally came up to the outdoor tables asking for donations from patrons. Not great, especially when he copped an attitude at someone who was giving him a donation and was just asking about their Venmo. We overheard an owner/ manager claiming they have to run them off all the time, which is lowkey wild. When we EVENTUALLY got a table, we decided to sit inside as we overheard other waitresses not being able to figure out who's bill/ orders were who's. We sat down an immediately and some waitress rudely slams water on the table without any acknowledgments and walks towards the bar. All the cocktail waitresses were pretty much hanging around/ at the bar with the older men. The food was C-tier at best, and the garlic bread was severely disappointing. 7 bucks for a burnt piece of French bread with garlic butter/ seasoning on it. The owners/managers seemed to be drunk and interacting only with friends of the establishment while the poor waitstaff was clearly swamped and overwhelmed. Mid-way through eating my salad the waitress literally came up and snatched my plate without even asking if I was done. Another really aggravating issue was they could NOT for the LIFE of themselves just decide on a playlist or a song. The music would start up super loudly and would just stop. and then a different song would play. For $140 that had to be one of the worst restaurant experiences I could imagine. Will never go back.

Definitely worth ordering however, not great or anything memorable. Pork Chop - It was accompanied by a sauce and roasted potatoes. The potatoes were average, nothing set them apart from regular roasted potatoes. The sauce was pretty tasty and provided something unique. The pork chop wasn't bad however, not a top 5 or even maybe top 8 pork chop I have ever. Pork Chops are something I order regularly and love to try. Is this place worth trying at least once? Maybe. Would I place it in the top 8 of Italian restaurants in the Baton Rouge/Denham Springs area? No.

It's also become one of my favorite spots to meet with colleagues, entrepreneurs, and investors because it's comfortable enough for conversation without feeling noisy or rushed. I also want to recognize Bethany, who makes a genuine difference in the experience. She greets everyone with a warm, full smile that immediately makes you feel welcome. She's attentive, thoughtful, and truly cares about making things right if something isn't quite as expected. That kind of hospitality is rare, and it shows. The decoration style is wooden accessories with small chairs and burlap sacks under the glass table tops, very rustic; but also small paintings by local artists on the walls that seemed out of place. The ambiance was nice and quiet, with dim lighting for a more intimate vibe. For appetizers, we ordered the crabmeat cheesecake and calamari. Both were good, but the crabmeat cheesecake was AMAZING! I think the sauce for the calamari could use some improvements as it tasted a little too light for pairing. They offered complimentary bread service, and the olive oil/ balsamic mixture had tons of freshly grated cheese which tasted amazing compared to other places. For drinks, we both got bloody mary's, but mine was so stiff that it tasted like a double compared to my partner's.. They also didn't do the spiced rim and were out of pickled green beans. The drink experience was quite disappointing overall, so my partner finished it for me, and he agreed mine tasted like straight up alcohol. We decided on the 16 oz. ribeye and Rufino's bolognese for our mains, and upon arrival, I was EXTREMELY disappointed to see that they served the bolognese with rigatoni instead of tagliatelle. The pasta was also served warm, not hot like the roasted potatoes which was weird. Looking back at the menu, I regretfully did not read the entire description because it's bolognese and I expected the traditional pasta to be used in it. The pasta sauce was still delicious as well as the steak, but the roasted potatoes tasted so strongly of peanuts so I wasn't a fan at all. We noticed that they offered complimentary cotton candy for dessert, but we decided to splurge on the crème brûlée and it was so yummy! Overall, I would come back, but I would not get the calamari or the bolognese again. The service was friendly while still keeping things professional, but it definitely slowed down a lot once we received our entrees.
