What a hidden gem! We went today for a Father's Day dinner. For me, it was my first time here. My son and daughter in law were here before. The restaurant is very authentic and welcoming. They have got a small dining area inside, and big outdoor area. Both on the second floor of a small plaza. The food was delicious! Everything we ordered was top notch. The service was outstanding, specially Karina; what a kind lovely young lady. Always smiling, very nice and attentive, makes you feel part of the family. We really enjoyed our time here today. Once again, a delicious meal and wonderful service provided by Manuela and staff. The tapenade is made fresh and yummy. We started off with two appetizers shared by the four of us. An order of mushrooms served over polenta, and four large meatballs covered with a delicious marinara sauce. Both were terrific. Two of us ordered they ossobocco which is perfect. The vegan soup is excellent and worth coming back for, but the pizza was ok - the shrimp topping was overly salty and the dough was very thick. The artichoke and palm heart salad was good but the olive oil could be improved. The staff is very helpful and kind and the chef owner interacts with customers by coming to the table which makes them feel very welcome. He offered to remake the pizza but I wasn't hungry at that point. I really liked the rustic atmosphere. My mom's seafood pasta was good but the pasta needed a little more cooking to be a tad softer. It tasted fine though. If the pizza could be improved into a much thinner crust and less salty I will be back again. read more

I hadn't dined at Gio's in 10 years, and I wasn't impressed the first time. When some friends asked us to join them at Gio's for dinner I was skeptical. This time, the food was much better and the service was excellent. My wife and I shared a Caeser salad, followed by chicken parmesian. Both were very good. Gio's seems to be one of the few restaurants where bread is complimentary. It too was good. The inside of the restaurant is cramped, so we chose to sit outside on their patio, warmed by heaters. I held my 75th birthday party on a Monday when Chef Roberto teaches a cooking class. I had 16 ladies for the class. Chef and I worked on the menu together. He's eager to please so the party was a big hit. Roberto and his team were delightful offering wine/soft drinks to my ladies. Everyone loved the menu and process. We made pasta,minestrone soup, chicken Marsala and ended with chocolate soufflé. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend the restaurant for dining and having an event/party there was fabulous. Wow, just wow !!! I been eyeballing this place for a while. Very welcoming and chef greeting you and introducing himself very sweet. Servers very attentive and sweet always checking on you. Now the chef came and we said it was our first time and he recommended some options my wife knew what she wanted, but me I wanted mushroom and chicken he said freshly pasta always made I know what to make you. It was our first time here and we can't wait to go back. All the pastas are freshly made and incredible. Parking is easy and we sat outside on a warm summer night which was delightful. Divine intervention brought me here and I'm so glad it did. I was riding down Ventura with my gf today and we were looking for something to eat. As fate would have it, we noticed gio cucina and decided to give them a try. Upon entry we were immediately greeted by chef Roberto. I was impressed at the fact that he took his time explaining the menu to us. I told him what I typically order and he decided to make me a medley of pasta, ravioli and chicken Marsala. They make all of their pasta by hand and you can tell. I don't normally like Alfredo because it just tastes cheap and heavy but their Alfredo made me rethink my whole idea of what Alfredo is. As great as the food was though, I must say what really one me over was their hospitality. Everyone was so welcoming and attentive. I was surprised to find out that this is a true family business and everyone there was related somehow. The restaurant has two sides but we sat in the main dining room which I prefer because I enjoy the open kitchen concept. Just let me say shame on me for not finding this hidden gem sooner, at least my next visit won't take as long. read more

Now I don't care that it's in a strip mall or the parking sucks. It's LA. Half the Michelin starred restaurants fit that description. But there must be a reckoning for this level of atrocity and I'm posting photos of the food because they are classic examples of wolves in sheeps' clothing. The bread was BY FAR the best part. The olive tapenade was 1,000,000 parts salt to olives. Sloppy. Oily. Unappealing And like the worst movies, the meal only got worse from there. The tagliatelle bolognese was arguably the most putrid I have ever had. Denny's has a better version. It was about as traditionally Italian as coconut curry and as authentic as Mr. Boy R Dee. The artichoke salad was 10,000 parts dressing to arugula, and the quality of their olive oil would be better suited to powering a go-kart. Their Parmesan is from the final sale bin at Smart N' Final. We ordered lemon sorbet and got lemon water with some lemony ice crystals in it. Twice. And how hard is it to screw up vanilla ice cream? My young daughter was so repulsed by it she actually spat it out. Vanilla ice cream. Yeah, the service was good. Who the hell cares when you're paying $30 a plate for one of the worst Italian meals you'll likely ever have anywhere. read more
