I came here on Saturday afternoon and had some of the worst service imaginable. Not only did they serve our table over a hour late but the staff did not seem to care at all. No one came by to refill water and the rude waiters couldnt seem to get the orders correct. Utensils were not even brought over to the table! On Sunday, July 8, 2018, I called Geovannis (149th & Grand Concourse) to see if they had drink specials. The lady (Latina) and her co-worker confirmed that they indeed had happy hour until 6pm. I was on 149th street and 3rd avenue. We treked over to Grand Concourse. When we go down the stairs to the bar area, it smells like ass. There is a cheese fondue rank smell. The smell seems to be consistent. It smelled before when I went during the week. The bartender says there is no happy hour. My friend and I get furious because we travelled from 3rd avenue. There is no other restaurant that has drinks on Grand Concourse. I asked to see the manager, Frankie. I told him his incompetent employees told me the restaurant had happy hour. The employee and her co-worker lied. I asked him how are you going to rectify the situation? He goes and sees that employee in the back. He comes back and says ''she conveniently ended her shift". Love the place. Well the G-Bar! it was welcoming and friendly. the food was prepared quicker than i thought and wow the dish looked amazing. My daughter was celebrating her 11th birthday and she wanted good Italian food and Giovanni was very close to our home and we decided to try it out. BIG MISTAKE!! We were there for three hours! You would have thought we had an 8-course meal. The wait is not long to be seated and I realize why. The food was bland and the waitress was unprofessional. Twice I had to leave the table to find her. At 9:00 pm she finally decides to bring my daughter a slice of cake, by now she is almost sleeping. I used to worship Giovanni's pizza but I've always had it from their Bronx location before they foreclosed. I decided to go to the mother-source and eat at their prime location, but boy was I up for a surprise, not a good one unfortunately. Ordered a cesar salad, prosciutto pizza with extra prosciutto and chicken marsala. Cesar salad came after the pizza but let's not stress about that timing error, let's just focus on the taste of it and say that although anchovies are a part of a cesar dressing, one must not entirely taste like fish only - disgusting. The pizza, that to my surprise arrived prior everything else ordered was the one thing I was truly craving a and came to be a huge disappointment as well. Prosciutto was barely spotted so not even the fact I ordered extra made any difference and to top it of the tomato sauce tasted revolting. The chicken marsala was the ok dish if you don't get picky and point out the fact that mushrooms came out of a jar but I wasn't expecting fresh mushrooms for that price to be honest. This is purely on the customer service which sucked! The place was empty and we were not greeted by anyone so I welcomed myself in and sat down. No one came to our table so after about 5 mins I physically went to get the hostess which then went to go look for someone who wanted to work apparently because a few of the waiters were LITERALLY standing there deciding who would come over. I do not smell believe me lol. So some guy came over, I forgot his name didn't greet us. I usually order from here a lot. I was highly dissatisfied with the service tonight. I ordered a few items and asked for a side of the garlic oil they serve at the table. I waited an hour for my order and the oil was never sent. I called to let the woman know and she checked my file and said the hostess never added it to my order. I told her that wasn't my problem because I ordered it. She then told me the girl was training and I needed to be more understanding. she said it would take another hour for the driver go back out. I told her I wanted it for my food and asked to speak to the manager. She then laughed and told me she was the manager and there was nothing else she could do so I either wanted the oil or I didnt. I told her I would wait but it was a huge inconvenience. She said ok and hung up. I waited an hour and half and called back she placed me on a 10 minute hold to find out where the driver was and then connected me to another girl. The girl offered to give me a credit because she had no drivers. I told her I wanted it with my food and now my food is cold. The girl was going to send it I waited an hour and a half and now there's no driver. She then said she couldn't send a driver out just for an oil. I asked for a manager and she said there was none. I asked her who dealt with customer complaints and was in charge and she said no one until tomorrow. I asked for the general managers email address which she claims he doesn't have one and if I wanted to speak to him I Should Call BacK Tomorrow. I told her I didn't want my food because not only it was cold but I wanted to eat it with the oil I ordered and she said there's nothing she could do about it and to call back tomorrow when someone could probly help me. On Sunday March 18th a group of about 10 girlfriends decided to do brunch. This was such a success that we are now having brunch together the third Sunday of every month. We call it our Gab & Munch Brunch! :) We failed to make reservation not realizing how busy the brunch at Giovanni's was....the place was PACKED. We all really did think that we would have to leave and try somewhere else or we'd have to break up into smaller tables. Well, in less than 5 minutes the gracious hostess returned and seated us on the second level.....we all initially groaned (yeah yeah yeah....I know beggers shouldn't be choosers....WHATEVER) at being so far from the buffet BUT we all ended up being VERY happy and pleasantly surprised. The area really did feel like we were seated in our own VIP room. It was AWESOME! And our waiter, Andrew, was THE best. Now imagine....a bunch of women who don't get out much, doing brunch! SCANDALOUS! We were rather boisterous, excited, full of laughter, and just happy to be together. Andrew put up with and joined in our joking, our gossip, our harrassment of a handsome man (HIM), AND he kept the champagne flowing. WOOHOO! We made mention of this to the manager on duty of Andrew's standard of service but I'm not so sure she paid much attention. So Andrew.....we're giving you a shout out to the world and hope that you, your colleagues, and your bosses will see it too! THANK YOU ANDREW!!!! oh and as for the food.....delicious! From the french toast, to the eggplant rollatini, to the prosciutto wrapped asparagus, clams on the half shell, baked ziti, made to order omelettes, shrimp, ribs, chicken fingers, crostini, canolis, eggs benedict, bacon, sausage, buffalo mozzarella, WE PIGGED OUT for $25 per person!!!!! I went to Giovanni's last weekend for their Sunday brunch buffet. They seem to run three businesses, a restaurant, bar (called G-Bar) and a pizzeria that are physically connected to each other. You can go from one area to the other without having to go outside. Myself and a friend arrived for brunch around 2PM and found the place pretty much filled to capacity, so we were seated in the pizzeria, which had been converted to look like part of the restaurant to accomodate the overflow. This was fine, but of course the decor was not as nice as the restaurant, or bar area where brunch was also being served. Brunch however was $25.95 per person, which I thought was somewhat steep for a South Bronx restaurant. However, it is unlimited and you can stay for up to two hours (2PM to 4PM for our visit). I must give Giovanni's kudos for there extensive brunch menu which included everything from traditional American breakfast fare to Italian pasta dishes, and much more. Some of the items I had were sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, home fried potatoes, mussels and clams marinara, pasta, Norwegian salmon, chicken breast, and proscuitto wrapped asparagus among other things. Most of it was very tasty, although not every items was kept warm. Unlimited Mimosas, soda, coffee, tea and other drinks and beverages were available. Brunch at Giovanni's is a family occasion where you can find young, old and in between enjoying a meal together. I should mention though that it can get a little noisy at times because of some of the large groups that will probably be there celebrating a birthday or some other special occasion. All in all though, I think this place is worth returning to. It was lively, the food was good, and the staff was really, really nice. read more

Placed an order online and it came in a descent amount of time BUT it was delivered with NO SAUCE NO SALAD DRESSING AND NO UTENSILS!!! Called them to let them know and was transferred to the manager(I assume) to be told it would be delivered. They did eventually. It just sucks to have your mouth watering for a dish and have to wait an additional 30-40 mins to eat it. All in all id recommend dining in. Less hassle read more

I Order 3 dishes and not only did the order take 2:30hrs to arrive( I live 10 blocks away from the place). But at the end of it they only delivered two plates. When I call the place to ask for my plate not only did he say "you need to wait 20 more minutes". But he then ask how many bags did the delivery give me. As if thats going to tell him the amount of plates. I NEVER leave reviews and I have patronized Giovannis, The G Bar & Tosca for over 17 yrs . Tonight I experienced disrespect and lack of customer service that left me appalled. I ordered pizza to go and stood on line patiently to pay . Jairo behind the counter skipped me and took the person in front and behind me , I brought it to his attention respectfully and his response was so DISRESPECTFUL I no longer wanted my order . I asked to speak to a manager he replied "are you ordering or what" . I explained I already ordered and wanted to pay and how he was being disrespectful , still in a calm manner . I asked for a manager again. He replied "for what " and walked away . I asked another team member for the manager and he was so combative and yelling irately while I explained to the manager about his demeanor . Clearly this is not a new behavior based on his comfort level . I stayed to speak to a manager and I am only writing this review to bring to the attention of the leadership of Giovannis that this is unacceptable and I'm sure this level of customer service (lack there of) was not the intention when establishing this business . What is clear is, this is not new behavior of Jairo, and it needs to be addressed & he needs to be reprimanded. I have traveled around the world and customer service is centerpiece of any business and clearly that is not something that Jairo has received training In. This is my favorite spot to go to when you want a good meal, good drinks, and be able to sit and talk with your friends without feeling like you are being rushed out. Sometimes I go for my usual chicken parm, but whenever I try something new it is always delicious! I am always satisfied when I leave. Plus I have food for the next day. Try the chicken cacciatore. If I'm rating on taste 5stars, however with customer service their horrible. I've been purchasing from Gio's for almost more then a decade. I've experienced high wait times as Giovanni can be extremely busy, so busy that the delivery wait time has been up to 2 hours. One thing I don't appreciate is calling and the female on the phone not paying attention and then gathering information wrong. I've thought long and hard prior to written a review as I never wanna be that guy. However in multiple instances my orders came either incomplete or wrong and I've just let it be. But calling and being place on hold and never getting back....very childish. Lucky for me I have multiple phones and that's how I noticed the young girl answering calls was playing games as she quickly answered. Gio's has been a pillar to the community for many years! STOP hiring those who can't perform simple task in a respectful way. PS. I've been going here for years. The food has always been good and above the standard for what I'm used to from a Bronx eatery. I ordered chicken parmigiana and my girlfriend got the veal. Both of these dishes were very good and we recieved everything in pretty good time. My only issue is that we ordered cheesecake and there was mold spores on each slice. Really unfortunate. I haven't been a fan of their pizza. I've eaten pizza there a few times, but rarely. I feel their pizza isn't up to par with the price they charge for it. The quality just doesn't match the price. Today, I felt like something different. I thought about grabbing something from the 7-11 down the block, then I decided, I feel like having a salad. I decided on a grilled chicken Caesar salad. Dressing on the side. Some places tend to overdo it. Price:$11.90. I thought this salad must be immaculate to charge so much. Paid, and took my salad back to work to eat. A little dab of dressing here. Eat a little. Romain lettuce was good. Chicken had a good flavor too it and it was juicy. Add more dressing. Mix it up a bit...uh oh. What's this? A dead moth in my salad. I couldn't believe it. I spit out what was left in my mouth, closed it up and returned it. I showed the man behind the counter. He asked whether I wanted another salad, or just my money back. I took my money back. It wasn't until after he handed me my refund that he apologized. Most restaurant workers/owners would probably have been a little more concerned with the fact that a customer found a dead insect in his food. I don't expect anything for free, but I do expect a little more concern about it. His lack of concern just makes me feel like it isn't the first time this has happened. Although the food is ok, the staff is among the worst I've ever encountered. I'm amazed how this establishment is rated at 4 stars. I recently decided to stop in for sec to grab a slice. While spending less than a minute inside this restaurant, with other customers waiting for their food already, I was urged twice by a middle aged lady at the register to "Hurry up". I was completely amazed how nasty I was treated, while being respectful, and shopping in a store that was open. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day or if worst, was motivated by racism, but her behavior while representing that establishment was completely unacceptable. It was a very uncomfortable moment, to the point where even the other patrons in the restaurant looked on in disbelief. Although quite embarrassing, I respectfully left and gave my business to a nearby restaurant instead. It's safe to say that I will never give them business again. Disappointing Brunch. It appears that their Brunch options have changed drastically. They used to have a Brunch Buffet that's was amazing and raved about. However, I recently had Brunch at this establishment and it is now a Pre-Fix brunch menu that comes with 1 appetizer, 1 entree and 2 mimosas for $31. This wouldn't be a bad price point if the food was actually good but it was terrible. As my appetizer I ordered the crab cakes which sell for $16 on their own. As someone who loves crab cakes and eats them frequently, these were among the worst I've ever had. They are primarily made with imitation crab meat- the actual real crab meat put into these were so minimal it was insulting. And there is no mention on the menu that they are made with mostly imitation crab meat so to me it's a scam. For my entree I ordered steak and eggs. Steak was overcooked and tasted as if there was no seasoning on it whatsoever. The waitress was really nice but we did wait for a long time to get water and mimosa refills but honestly if the food would have been good we probably wouldn't have noticed. I went to Giovanni's Restaurant on Valentine's day and the food I ordered was broiled seafood and it was very good. My husband did not like the fish that came with it. The fish could have had more seasoning. The service was good even though the food came too quick while we were eating our salad. Another thing was that we had to fan nats from time to time. Giovanni significantly raises the bar for Italian restaurants in my experience. Most of the time when I go to an Italian restaurant my orders are less than spectacular because a my dietary limitations pretty much rule out most of the menu options- I eat no dairy, and no meat. When I came to Giovanni I had no expectations other than the usual fare that I get elsewhere- however I was really pleasantly surprised. I ordered grilled vegetables and the Tri-colori salad. First off- the bread they give you on the table is delicious, and they give you an amazing flavored olive oil dip. I think I'd come there just for that if I could it was so good, had to make an effort not to fill up on bread. Good thing I left room... The grilled veggies I got were a pretty substantial portion, texture was melt In your mouth perfection, and the flavor was amazing. The salad, which I had with a simple oil and vinegar as a dressing was delicious, it was hard to believe such simplicity could be so tasty. I had ordered a plate of fries because I was thinking I'd not have enough food. I was wrong. I ended up with a full stomach and taking food home with me. No one else I was with is a vegan so they got to order a selection of different things from the menu. We were a party of six people, each person ordered something different, everyone else also enjoyed their choices. My friend got eggplant parmigiana that she really liked, and all basically agreed their orders were delicious. Our server was Alex, he was really attentive and efficient and the staff in general very friendly. The DJ played music that kept everyone happy.
