They have good subs which are priced pretty well given the inflation of the past few years. The Italian sub had good cold cuts and a nice roll. The spicy fries were great, but a little overpriced. They also have some nice less common potato chip brands on the rack--I usually find something different each time I'm there. I tried the Vegas Parmesan & Garlic Chips this time, which were excellent. Staff is quick and efficient--never had an order messed up! Some reviewers mentioned tip issues, but I order & pick up at the counter and never tip and have never been bothered about it, for whatever that's worth. However, there's one big problem: They quietly slap a "Service fee" on the order. It looks like it's 5%, which is quite a bit extra. Worse, the fee is post-tax. This is simply a way of ripping off customers and pretending prices are lower than they actually are. For example, medium spicy fries are listed at $7.25, but with the tax & service fee, you end up past $8. Another example: An Italian sub is $12.99 but ends up being $14.60 with the tax + fee. When the wife is working, service is great and my order is always correct. She's sweet and treats her staff with respect. When it's the husband or the son, don't bother. They're verbally abusive to the staff and customers. With them, there's always a mistake but they will fight you if you tell them that. read more

I know times are tough but Jesus. I ordered a small turkey sub no tomatoes, and got this. A small sub with literally 1 slice of turkey, with probably 3 cups of tomatoes to fill out the sub. When they first increased their prices I was like that's fine I understand that as long as the quality stays there. Obviously paying 10 dollars for a small sub with one slice of turkey is not my definition of quality. I am also empathetic the fact that good workers are hard to come by now, but I am writing this because when I called to inform them of the situation, or atleast have them remake my sub, they kept putting me on hold and heard them complaining about me in the back ground. Absolutely horrible experience with this place. Ordered a CHICKEN BURRITO over the phone and was told 10 MINUTES. Went to go pick the single item up at the ten minute mark, the food wasn't ready. I still paid upfront and stood off to the side to wait for the food. The place was absolutely chaotic. Phones ringing off the hook, old Italian grumpy guy yelling at his employees for not making the orders correct, and the man of the night, the the owner rampaging around behind the counter. Checked on my order ten minutes after I paid (now 20 mins total). The employee checked with the cook, the cook said he was working on it. Another ten minutes go by (now 30 mins total). I asked the young girl working the cash register to check on my burrito. The girl asks the cook about the burrito and the cook was confused and didn't know about any chicken burrito. That's when I decided to ask for my money back. The owner then decided to get involved. He asked me what I was waiting on and proceeds to tell me they are busy. (Nothing like telling a customer their time is more important than theirs.) The owner decides to take a $10 bill out of the register and throw it in my face. I told him I was a long time customer and he sarcastically repeated to me that I was "a really good guy" and "to get out of the way". So long story short, don't give these people your money. Go to a place where they are up front about wait times and treat you with respect. Pretty sure this place is going out of business due to tax evasion anyways. I order here all the time! Horrible experience! I ordered my food, then I called another hour to see where it was. They never placed the order! They also told me it was for pickup, which it wasn't and that someone took it! After I ordered again and waited for another hour until I got my food, which was cold and soggy! Total of 2 hours, waiting and being frustrated to get cold food. Horrible! They also hung up on me many times because they knew it was me, calling for my order. I had to call at least 5 times. First they sent the wrong soda I ordered orange crush they sent grape whatever I was willing to deal with that one however the garlic bread is a dark brown brick, the marinara was spilled all over the bag and the chefs salad was weird however both that and the Italian sub we're edible but sub par at best. Giovanni's is hands-down the best go to sub shop around. The steak tips can't be beat and they get even better when you get the barbecue. Their quick pace crew is always banging out orders left and right. The staff they're always listening to my demands and makes sure my food it's prepared right, I get pretty picky about my diet and they always get it right! To sum it up. Called @ an hour and 20 later and they aren't sure but this $75 order is listed as a pickup...go pick it up at 7 and "management isn't here tonight but this stuff happens". Get home obviously food is cold and gross two orders of two hour old fries & chicken fingers are not even worth eating and wrong steak tips with order and no dressing (ordered extra) or anything with the two salad meals. So drive back again try to talk to the people at the front and get no apology as I try to explain how ridiculous this is just a "here's you dressing thanks have a nice night" turns away and walks into the kitchen. Great subs and dinners, good salads, bad pizza, and horrible service. Giovanni's, a family-run business, used to be a great sub shop serving West Peabody. The owners were always friendly, they had arcade machines (Double Dragon comes to mind), and the prices were reasonable. When the original owners retired, their kids took over and service began to go downhill, so much so that I was actually uncomfortable going in there. Nowadays, it's manned by snotty kids who don't give a damn about you, and aren't shy about showing it. I hate going there, and in recent years rarely did, just because I didn't want to deal with the cashiers. I gave 2 stars because, in truth, their subs and dinners are still really good, though slightly on the expensive side of the sub shop spectrum. Their pizza always was and still is horrible, and probably the worst pizza I've ever had anywhere. I always hated when my parents brought home Giovanni's pizza. Oh Giovanni's. Always there with delicious food when no one is in the mood to cook. Great neighborhood establishment. Delicious salads (especially the Greek salad...yummmm), good pizzas and calzones that taste even better the second day. Sandwiches can be a little dry, and the fries a tad under-seasoned, but that's usually overlooked given how good everything else is. The people behind the counter are always friendly and jokey, probably because everyone knows each other from around the way. +5 for solid, comforting food. read more
