I've been coming to Giuseppe's for a decade, and the last 3 or 4 times I've gone have been a little sad. I understand that the last year has been hard on businesses, so I'm hopeful things will pick up. When last I visited, about a week ago, the interior of the restaurant was notably unclean. Stains on the walls, cobwebs, lots of dust. The food was bland, and much of it tasted as though it had previously been frozen. The dishes were over-sauced, and the sauces seemed thin or watered down. We started off with Bruschetta! It was excellent and delicious! Bruschetta is sliced garlic bread topped with chopped tomatoes, onions, basil and olives marinated in balsamic vinegar and olive oil. My main course was Cheese Tortellini Bolognese and my husband had the Linguini Pescatore.(which consists of shrimp, clams and linguini) The food really was excellent! Was driving around Denton a few weeks ago looking for a restaurant to host a group of 30 people from out of town for a quick New Years Eve dinner. Needed to be in and out in about an hour or so. Found Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant by accident. After looking at the restaurant and talking to Giuseppe for 15 seconds, I knew I had the right place and person, so I made the reservation. Then had to cancel for circumstances beyond anyone's control. Then situation causing the cancellation resolved itself and Giuseppi graciously on short notice reinstated the reservation. Everything was perfect when we arrived. Food was great as was the service. Could not recommend this place more. Would rate a 10 star, But Yelp only allows 5. Thank you to Giuseppe and his entire team for going above and beyond. They were exceptional. read more

I only visited this place once and unless someone wants to bring me here again, "to try it for themselves" I will not come back. I have drove by several times, thinking that looks like a good place to try. Finally I came with a friend and the first impression was really good. The Resturant is in an old house and they have black tablecloths and black napkins, nice romantic atmosphere. The food, well, started out with a small Caesar salad which was Really Good! The bread was sourdough and warm. The butter, if you can get it out of the tiny package was okay. Then the entrée. Mine was manicotti and it was served cold. My friend ordered something (forgot) and got something else. But it was served cold as well. The server was slow to come around and we hungry so we just ate and talked about not coming back. And the table next to us was talking about not coming again so out decision was reimbursed. The second star was because the flavor of the food was good for cold food. read more

This was the 2nd time we've tried Giuseppe's. It is in a quaint little Victorian residential house- which explains why it was SO COLD inside. A beautiful place with no insulation. I kept my coat on the entire time buttoned up. But the food is what brings you here, support local and all. My hubby ordered shrimp alfredo and I had fried eggplant with a lemon cream sauce paired with ziti pesto. The shrimp still had their tail on so you have to pick those off. And, the fettucine noodles were clumpy. My eggplant was good, topped with spinach, diced tomatoes and capers. The ziti with pesto also good. It was all just so creamy, I got full on the eggplant and took the pesto ziti in a to go box. The salads, though small, were very good. My hubby got the Caesar. I had the house with a balsamic vinaigrette. The vinaigrette was also creamy but delicious. The experience was not quite what we were hoping for and we couldn't help compare it to Bagheri's. I was very excited to go back as I remembered Giuseppe's being pretty good when I went in the past. Unfortunately I was disappointed this time around. I was especially disappointed as I was there with someone I recommend it to. The food was not what I remembered and honestly was not worth the price. Not only was the food inauthentic (I've been to Italy), but it was lower quality than I expected. The waiter we had wasn't great. He asked us both to enter our PIN numbers at the front which was unexpected since we had chips on our cards. On the upside I would say the location is perfect and the building is cute. We came down for racing and ended up staying in Denton. We drove downtown to see what was around for shops, etc. On the way back to our motel, we saw Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant and it looked interesting. It was an old house and was changed into an Italian restaurant the is very comfortable. I had more than enough food. The service was great and the food was great. All six of us had different meals and were very pleased with each dish. My seafood pasta dish was something I wish I could find back in Wisconsin. Shrimp, clams and mussels in a white wine lemon sauce that was over the top. We all ate until we could not stuff any more food into us. But I had to try the Tiramisu and was hoping I would get some help to finish off the treat. It was great, not store bought, but homemade and pretty good. Maybe above average, but not great. It was a nice finish to the meal, but based on the meal we just ate, we all thought it would be more over the top. Dinning at Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant was a great for a nice evening meal. Oh my goodness was this place amazing. I truly didn't know what to expect once we got there, but two bottles of wine split between four and each sharing different meals later it was the best. I ordered the breaded veal and it was tender, flavorful and gone in no time. I tried about three different items on the plates of others at my table, and each dish was deliciously different. My meal was hard to share, because I wouldn't give much. :) Either way, staff was super informative, well versed on their menu and helpful all the way. Went here a few weeks ago with my adult daughter and 2 of her friends/coworkers. They were in town for a conference. My daughter remembered how quaint this place was and how good the food was so she wanted to go here. I ordered the veal parmigiana which is not technically on the menu but chicken parmigiana is. They said they could make it. What came out was an piece of veal that was fried for too long with tomato sauce on top. I didn't even eat half. It was not good. So recently I switched to a Vegan diet, so I was expecting to have to stop eating at Giuseppe's because, let's face it, American Italian cuisine tends not to be particularly Vegan friendly, but I thought so would still try going to my favorite place for lunch anyway and see what I could do. I was NOT disappointed! My first visit the server recommended the Pasta alla Picatta but sub the butter sauce for a lemon wine. Absolutely delicious! Second visit? Grilled mushroom sandwich slightly modded, again excellent. But the reason I am updating my review from a year ago is the dish that was recommended for me today; Melanzane alla Griglia, or Grilles Eggplant. It's an off menu item, so I wasn't expecting it, but honestly it is hands down the most delicious dish I have ever eaten, period. Three slices of grilled eggplant topped with fresh pesto with a side of delicious grilled vegetables. No substitutions; there was no fake butter or cheese, just authentically Italian Vegan goodness that sings to the soul! read more

"Lobster" ravioli has imitation meat inside and was cold. Chicken masala was cold, way overcooked, raw mushrooms, and the sauce was thick like gravy. Not impressed by the food AT ALL. They are open during this COVID crisis for takeout and curbside - you call to place an order. This wonderful restaurant has been a huge supporter of the Denton community. Their food is fabulous and very affordable. They are currently offering special family meals at deep discounts to help their customers through this difficult time. We had our daughters Graduation party there on Dec. 19,2020. It surpassed amazing on every level! From the atmosphere, each and every employee, OUR SERVERS!!!!!!, and the delicious food! We had the most wonderful time!! The menu is absolutely wonderful with so many choices it was difficult to chose! We will be back and can't wait. First of all, I love how this restaurant looks like a house, and the abundance of trees and various plants surrounding it set up a very nice atmosphere. When I first walked in, I was pleasantly surprised by the elegance of the restaurant; black tablecloths, candles, and flowers were on every table. The menu selection was also very affordable and had a very appealing variety. Both the tortellini and mushroom ravioli were very delicious, as were the side house salads and complementary bread. My only complaint is that the breaded eggplant underneath the mushroom ravioli, although flavorful, was extremely oily so I couldn't finish all of it. There were also only 3 pieces of ravioli which was disappointing. However, I was overall very pleased with my visit and definitely think the restaurant deserves more than 3 stars. Salad had old lettuce and the house dressing was mostly Mayo? The sauce in my pasta was good but the sausage was tough. Tiramisu did not taste like real tiramisu, more like store bought cheap cake. Prices are cheap, but I can't imagine them charging more for low quality food. It's a shame, it has a good name and a great location. But very poor quality food. Fantastic little local Italian restaurant inside of a Victorian style house. The food was fantastic. I recommend the calamari fritti (fried calamari) and the bruschetta for appetizers; the house Cabernet Sauvignon at $5.50 a glass was well worth the money and they gave a generous pour. The lasagna is also delicious - full of flavor and plenty of meat and cheese to satisfy even the hungriest of patrons. I ordered the ravioli alla arrangosta and it was decent. The service was on point, however we still felt a bit rushed, but overall had a very pleasant experience. Will dine here again! read more

I've been going to Giuseppe's for probably 20 years. It's a great little spot with a charming atmosphere. Located in an old house with the downstairs being the restaurant and the upstairs is a locally owned b&b (the homes on either side of Giuseppe's are also part of the b&b. The wine menu is seriously lacking but the food is solid. Some of my favorites are the eggplant parm, served with fettuccini Alfredo on the side instead of spaghetti and the pork chop served in a mushroom cream sauce and mashed potatoes. read more

I was interested from the moment I asked my girlfriend, "Where do I park?", to which she replied, "Just pull in the driveway." Giuseppe's is a cool lil restaurant in an old, but beautiful Denton home with a cozy feeling not even a fireplace at Christmas time could match. I enjoyed the seating arrangements around the entire establishment, though tables were kind of close to one another, this allowed me to eavesdrop and people watch at my own pleasure. For instance I watched a family meet their daughter's boyfriend for the first time. The mom was drilling him with questions. Dad didn't say a word, just stared him down with hate. The poor guy was bouncin' his legs for an hour. I also feel it'd be a great place to break up with someone that you really were into at some point. It's very quiet, and wouldn't allow them to cause much of a scene. Anyway...service is quick and cool, even during dinner time, so I appreciated that. I couldn't pronounce anything on the menu to save my life, so I relied on context clues to guide me to what I would be eating that evening. I got the Pollo Speziato, which was just breaded chicken with two pieces of shrimp on it. Along with some zucchini and squash. It was all really tasty, but for the 14 something I paid, I would've hoped for either bigger portions, or another side. They carry the usual draft beers, and allow their house wines by the glass. I was definitely pleased with their selection of brand name wines, but you're required to purchase the entire bottle, and I wasn't tryin' to turn up on a Monday at 6:30. read more

I've lived in Denton for a while, which means I've given Giuseppe's many chances. I'm finally done with this place. It's not terrible, but it's not worth the price or the frustration either. I have had one good experience there and it involved a large group dinner to celebrate graduation. That experience alone, however, was not enough to balance out the rest. The food is... meh. The stuffed mushrooms are awesome, but I wish they'd use bigger mushrooms. I generally use eggplant parm as my measuring stick for an Italian place and theirs was not up to par. I've never gotten the impression that the food was anything other than a mish-mash of ingredients straight off the Roma delivery truck. But the mediocre food alone is not enough to get 2 stars... The service (specifically for the past 2 times we've gone) has been terrible, at best. While we were seated immediately, it took at least 10 minutes for a server to even stop by to greet us and pour some water. I try not to be too picky if it's busy, but our waitress both times was waiting on only 2 or 3 tables (all of which were done eating). No excuse for walking by our table 3-4 times without so much as acknowledging our existence. When she finally came to pour water and take our drink order, I said we were ready to order and she actually told me, rather sternly, that I needed to wait and she'd be back. Unacceptable. The only good service experience we had was for the 12 person graduation dinner. I've had friends who have worked here before, so I know the place is capable of providing good service. Funny how that works out. My experience seems to be the polar opposite of most other reviews on Yelp - I liked the service, disliked the food. Getting seated quickly on a Friday evening is a plus. Having a high chair brought for the kid is even better. Food moved fast, and my coke was never empty. That's where it, sadly, ends a little for me. The bruschetta was served on soggy bread. That's a no-no, especially for real Italians. The crunch of the bread is expected, the olive oil serves as a little bit of a softener. This version was, alas, just flabby bread decorated with olives and watery tomatoes. We shared the Portobello appetizer which I liked. If it hadn't been drowned in fat it might have been even better. But then, there's bread, and what's better than dipping that one. So, hey, this part worked out. The stunner was, for me, the Spaghetti Carbonara. Carbonara is a very, very, simple concept. Make Alfredo sauce (which is simply butter and parmigiano), add an egg at the last second, swirl in (but don't cook), top with pepper and any pork based goodness, and serve. Carbonara is ubiquitous in Italy simply _because_ it's so simple, real fast food actually. At Guiseppe's it's not that simple. In fact the "Carbonara" is actually Alfredo (which is made with cream here, a no-no) mixed with a red sauce and meaty (beef) bits. Again, I hope this place is named Guiseppe after someone who has nothing to do with the day-to-day operations, lest I lose my faith in Italian cooking. This is bad. There's reasons we can't sell a slab of fish as a "Big Mac". People assume a certain list of ingredients and preparation when ordering. My Indian friends would certainly be peed off if they ordered a Carbonara and got cow instead, my friend with the tomato allergy, too. My main course consisted of watery sauce, a completely dry lump of chicken, and an alibi salad that lost the right to call itself that somewhere between the wilting and the listless dressing. There's good news. The place is nicely decorated and my company was stunning, interesting, and fun to be around. If only our food had not been so mediocre... read more
