This place is closed now, and I was fortunate enough to dine here shortly before he passed. I came in on a Friday afternoon shortly after he opened. Noone was in the restaurant and he treated me like an absolute king. I told him to prepare whatever he wanted. In that moment, his love for cooking and serving people was reflected in his eyes. He prepared several dishes by himself and filled my belly and my heart. I hope his family know just how much people appreciate that they shared him with us. read more

First time visiting Bagheri's was rather disappointing. As far as decor, I liked the array of real and healthy plants. Some of the paintings felt out of place; I also think they would look nicer if framed. While there, the restaurant only played what sounded like 80's video game music. My mom, who was visiting, and I also had the pleasure of listening to who I assume was the owner take a lengthy personal phone call on speaker phone while in the dining room. We were the only table seated in the dining room at the time. I was shocked at many of the prices. Their shrimp fettuccine Alfredo was listed as $49, which is my normal go to at an Italian restaurant, but there was no way I was going to spend $50 on it. My mom and I ended up ordering a chicken fettuccine Alfredo ($31) and a chicken Parmesan ($23). For how pricey the fettuccine Alfredo was I expected to be really wowed...but it was rather bland. The chicken parm was good, but the chicken was small. The cheesy garlic bread was delicious! But without ordering it we wouldn't of received any bread, which I find odd for an Italian restaurant-especially with the prices they have. There was no wine list, another oddity in an Italian restaurant. My mom requested a Riesling, which they did not carry. She then requested a pinto Grigio, to which our server (also the cook) brought out a Pinot noir. She sent it back and ordered a soda instead. This place was awesome. We went there on a whim, looking for another place and ended up here. Yes, it's small. Yes, the entrance is rather interesting and the parking area has something to be desired. Is an old strip mall. But once you get inside, it is a cozy family restaurant with the owner Syd and I think his brother Syd running the place. Who cares about the decor and table cloths if the food is good! The food was amazing and was really prepared fresh to order. I was debating between the beef and sausage so they offered to combine them. They also combined the meatballs and the meat sauce for my spouse. The serve was very personable and I can see where some get offended because you have to engage them as they are trying to manage the tables and cook. We spoke to them after quite a bit, and they recommended reservations because it's only the two of them. And they want to make sure they can take care of everyone who they seat so if there's empty seats. It does not necessarily mean that they have an open table , I told him we'd be back and he recommended we call for a reservation so they save us a spot to make sure that they can serve us well. This is not some chain store and they know they have good food and will take care of the ones who show them the same respect. Please wash your hands!! When the table faces the kitchen and people can see you walk from the dining area to the kitchen and NOT wash your hands then you go and handle food. No tongs, two employees neither who washed their hands then grabbed spaghetti from a container and plated it. The older gentlemen was making our salad and eating from the bowl that he was preparing the salad in. Side note, he did wear gloves to prepare the salad but he had already eaten from the bowl. They do not have a children's menu. The prices are very high for the quality of food. We ordered a Caesar salad, (swimming in salad dressing) sausage and spaghetti (mushy sausage), tortellini (no complaints, my 12 year old enjoyed it. Eggplant parm (two very thin slices of eggplant on a bed of spaghetti) and spaghetti and meatballs. The free bread was almost burned (we left almost the entire basket on the table.) The marinara sauce was almost pure tomato with little to no seasoning. I'm scratching my head at how others rated this place so high. The food is just excellent and that is THE most important thing for a restaurant. There are other charming and enjoyable aspects of this establishment but the food alone rates five stars. We started with side salads, which were more like antipasto with a slice of melon, artichoke and other garnishes that made it truly memorable. And housemade Italian dressing which was complex, fresh and delicious. During the salad course we were also served chips and salsa on the house (admittedly odd at an Italian restaurant). But so fresh and delicious I could barely stop eating it. Hot fresh bread with butter also on the table. Coca-cola in a can but a second one brought without charge. My wife had spaghetti with sausage and could not begin to finish the big serving. I had some the next day. Still delicious. I had a fettucini alfredo variety - with artichokes, ham and mushrooms. Real, honest-to-goodness alfredo obviously made in-house. Abundant ingredients and noodles truly al dente. Flavor subtleties which my feeble writing skills cannot properly describe. All I can say is it was absolutely delicious. A two man operation on a Sunday night so service was uneven. Sometimes too much, sometimes waiting too long. The owner/chef is very freindly - perhaps too much so if you want any solitude but I think it's just part of his heritage. Interior decor a bit dated but clean. Nice white table clothes. Excellent piano music at just the right volume. Ample parking in the strip center lot. Don't let the location and storefront put you off, if you want really good food. We went out looking for an inexpensive meal. This wasn't inexpensive at around $40 each with some wine. But for the quality and the experience it was a bargain and one I plan to enjoy frequently! read more

I'll rate the quality of their food as average for a restaurant of this type. Not bad but not great either considering their prices which are considerably higher than the menus posted online. What I found most annoying was the way they handled the bill for our party of four. We gave them two credit cards and asked them to split the bill. Once the transaction was rung up, our waiter (owner) returned our cards and thanked us for coming in. We asked for a receipt so we could add a tip and the waiter (owner) said that it had already been taken care of. I thought that was odd so I checked my bank balance as soon as I got home and saw that he had charged both cards a 28 per cent tip. A $150 bill turned into a $192.00 dinner without our input. Unassuming little 'Mom and Pop' joint. They don't put much money into the decor. Friendly server who is one of the two brothers that own the place from what I overheard. Somewhat odd they had no wine list. They did have wine but it felt like a "let me see what I've got" kind of thing. Ended up passing because he couldn't get anything close to a Riesling or Pinot Grigio. Cheese bread was great. Chicken fettuccine was okay. Plenty of sauce. Not too heavy or greasy. It's been a long time since I wrote a review. Bagheri's is still my favorite Italian restaurant in our area. Currently they are only open for take out orders and for delivery like other restaurants that are open. I'm not sure how far they deliver, I figured we were probably outside of their delivery area and I wanted it as hot as possible so I ordered pickup. We ordered their cheese lasagna, their beef lasagna and their pizza. The pizza isn't normally on their menu. They are pretty active on Facebook for new updates, at the time their 18" cheese pizza started at $19 and each additional topping is $2. I ordered it with pepperoni and sausage. I love a good pizza and I'm pretty picky. This pizza was amazing! It's huge, I stuffed myself by eating three slices and that seems to be about a quarter. The ingredients are top notch like all their other dishes. The crust is awesome. It's NY style like, not super thin but closer to thin than to hand-tossed. There was a ton of cheese, pepperoni and sausage and the sauce is awesome. It was a perfect combination! I know where I will order pizza next time while they still sell pizza! read more

Me and the wife were really excited to try this after all the positive reviews. We went at 7:50pm on a Friday night. We walked in and it's not a huge place but there were two tables open. Such a family atmosphere and I could immediately see myself visiting this place over and over. Ahhhh how nice! We stood there as the family left. The owner or whatever looked at me and my wife and said "I don't have any tables, sorry" WHAT? There are open tables right in front of me. They didn't close for another hour to hour and half. Came here for a spontaneous date night and it was absolutely amazing! The restaurant itself is very cute and the staff truly cared about the service. The food was so yummy too! We got the house salad for two, garlic bread, spaghetti and meatballs and the eggplant parmesan. My date is lactose intolerant and they made sure to confirm when we ordered which dishes should be cheeseless for him. This is my second time here. I ordered to go and came quite late after the schedule time but they were very nice; they even put my food in the warmer storage and give me a carrying container because the food was hot. I was worried you had to make reservations, but you don't. We walked in at 6:30pm on a Sunday night and the place was empty. The lobster ravioli is very good. You get 7 stuffed pieces for $29. It's enough for two portions. Their complimentary bread is delicious. It has a great crunch on the outer edge. The chicken parm was really good as well. It comes with angel hair pasta. The only downside is their waitstaff isn't very attentive. It's difficult to get their attention and you have to wait quite a while before one notices you need something. Note their soda is $3. I had been to their original location on Fry a few times and loved it, but had a difficult time getting to their new location with the limited and ever changing hours. I came once last year and while the food was good, I had mixed feelings about the service, atmosphere and price, so I was on the fence about my rating. We returned last week for my birthday and I ended up with a mild case of food poisoning. So though I had good meals before, I don't think it's very likely I will be back. I'm a little conflicted about the atmosphere. They used to be laid back with outdoor seating, sandwiches, good prices and big portions. That's what I like. Now the menu is small, the décor is more upscale, and some of the prices are quite high. I have a difficult time jiving the tablecloths and paintings with the grocery store style double entrance and servers in street clothes. It feels confused. I'm okay with either, but I'm not sure if they know which one they are. By the way, I've seen a few reviews state they were turned away for not having a reservation- I have not had a reservation either time and was not sent away or told to make one next time. The service was better this time then my previous visit. This is including the fact that there were half as many people working too! We were greeted by the only person cooking and told someone would be right with us and then we were taken care of by the only person serving, bussing, etc. They were very kind despite being busy. This was a welcome change from a kid in jeans ignoring us while we shelled out $50 for a meal. We ordered the same thing we did last time, with the addition of a cannoli. The bread was great, not hard like our first visit. However, we were a bit concerned about one thing. We were seated at a table that had cheese on it. After we had it for a while and my husband had some of it, the server came and snatched it off our table like it wasn't supposed to be there. Then she brought us another one. That was concerning and I wish now we hadn't been polite about the situation, but took it as a sign. My husband liked his meat lasagna, but it was greasier than last time (he loved it last time). I tasted it and the pasta was cooked well. It's a decent portion for $13. I ordered the Lobster Ravioli, 6 for $22. I thought it was pretty good last time but this time it was overcooked. I did note that there was plenty of filling and the ingredients seemed good. I didn't like the Dama Bianca sauce as much as our previous visit, it may be because there was way too much of it. The cannoli wasn't bad for $6. The cream was pretty decent, the pastry shell was bland. They use chocolate chips and I hate it when people do that, but they did it best. The chocolate chips weren't hard and were well mixed into the cream, indicating they had been prepared together. Still, that makes it a bit too sweet for my taste. Then of course I woke up- specifically thinking of this meal- before becoming fully cognizant I was burning up and starting to vomit. I spent most of the night like that. To those who love this place and want to argue the point- I'm aware it cannot be proven with certainty which place or meal gets you sick, which is why I am not docking an additional star. However, I will tell you that I am *definitely* certain it was this meal and that's why I won't return. I'm disappointed this wasn't a good fit for us, it really seemed like it should have been. I realize this could have been a one time fluke, but I find it really unlikely that whatever practices led to this happening have only happened once. I wish them the best of luck and hope they work out whatever issues they had going on- after all, birthday or not, nobody wants food poisoning. read more

I am glad we did not order an appetizer or salads because the portions were massive! The sauce tasted homemade and the bread they served was warm and delicious. I was in the mood for Italian so off to Yelp I went. Bagheri's has everything I was looking for today. A small, family run restaurant with hearty, vegetarian meals, in a relaxed atmosphere. I expected it to be a little more difficult to find based off of some reviews but the GPS took me right to it. I will say, the street sign that you turn at actually is Russell St, the actual address is Robinhood Ln but that street sign isn't as obvious and I honestly never even saw it. I arrived a little before their posted opening time of 5:30 and was pleasantly surprised when the owner unlocked the doors early. This is often a benefit of a small business. The neighborhood isn't as "nice" as some and the restaurant is located in an older strip mall, but don't let that deter you. Inside, I found a clean, inviting dining room complete with crisp clean linens and a warm smile to greet me. I'm already liking this place. I took a seat and ordered a some tea. I was quickly brought a menu as well as some freshly toasted bread and grated Parmesan cheese. The menu was plentiful and sure to please any appetite. I'm certain that anything on the menu would have been completely customizable. I ordered the cheese lasagna. I know, boring right? But that was part of my plan for the evening. A simple hearty meal, I could eat in a relaxed atmosphere and be able to go to bed early to restart fresh tomorrow. I enjoyed the toasted bread with a little butter and Parmesan then took a sip of the tea. Whoa!! This wasn't Lipton tea I can assure you. The tea had a nice calming cardamom flavor! Perfect for the traditional Italian cuisines to aid in digestion! JACKPOT! My lasagna arrived in a large dish, still bubbling from the oven. I couldn't wait to dig in. The tomato sauce was thick and vibrant, cheeses melted to perfection, and pasta was al dente! I ate as much as my stomach could hold and had plenty left over for a late snack provided I'm still up past 8pm tonight. I complimented the owner on the tea and he was overjoyed to show me the tea he uses. I was correct on the cardamom. This tea isn't something he gets at a supply house, this is the real deal. Loose herbs that he steeps for his customers to enjoy. That really shows me that he takes pride in what he is doing. I was thankful I drove a little way out of my way to try this place. I'm going to start this review with a clear message: ORDER THE BAKED SPINACH RAVIOLI! This dish is the reason for my 5 star review!! We were greeted immediately when walking in and taken to our table. The same person who sat us took our drink order and promptly came back with waters for us both. The service here was excellent and, who I can only assume was Mr. Bagheri himself, even came and talked to us at the end of our meal. 5/5 for service alone. Our waiter brought us bread and we started with the house salad for two ($10). We were a little underwhelmed by the bread - it had a great flakiness but could have had more butter / seasoning. The salad was good and had wonderful fresh fruit on it, but was also a little underwhelming for the price. The house dressing, however, made up for all of it. It was absolutely delicious and I even dipped the bread in it after eating my salad, which really added to the flavor. Next up were the main entrees. This menu was a little pricier than we were expecting but they did have some cheaper ($12-$15) pasta dishes. We stuck to that section. My husband ordered tortellini with meat sauce and ate every bite. I ordered, like mentioned previously, the Baked Spinach Ravioli. The beautiful green raviolis were absolutely smothered in cheese (my favorite) and stuffed FULL of spinach and even more cheese. They were honestly the best dish i've ever eaten at an Italian restaurant. I'm craving it just thinking about it. Do yourself a favor and order this dish - it will change your life. This is Denton's best kept secret for Italian food! Everything is homemade, the Italian sausage is legit & I normally don't care for it! But let me start from the beginning. It's in a strip mall. Don't be scared. Park, walk yourself across the parking lot to Metzler's & pick up a bottle of vino. Bagheri's has a bottle opener & glasses but it's BYOB. Then, saunter in & get a table at Bag's :) Truly, everything is big enough to share but I'm always so greedy! The dressing on the Caesar has great flavor & you can tell is homemade! Normally, I steer clear of bread but homemade loaves with Texas toast size slices & REAL butter on the table?! Shut the front door!!! I allowed myself a slice, slathered properly with tons of butter. My hubby's split the Caesar with me, we added cracked black pepper & I foolishly ate it all. The real stars hit the table shortly after. My hubby got fettuccine Alfredo with a side of Italian sausage. I got the mushroom lasagna that came to the table, bubbling so hard from the 500 degree oven. Yes. I burnt my mouth a little, I'm food greedy, remember? It was so good. The sauce is amazeballs & something I cannot duplicate at home. Slices of mushroom, layered between lasagna noodles, heavenly marinara & oodles of Mozzarella on top. I could only eat maybe a quarter of it, after snagging some sausage to go along. I even told my hubby I'd split the fettuccine with him one day & I normally detest Alfredo! The seafood prices are expensive but I swear to you on all I find holy, split that s*** with someone at your table. This is the only restaurant I've EVER been to where the mussels did not require a dosing of lemon juice!! And I eat a LOT of mussels! And I would eat shrimp Alfredo here only! I want to say that this place is absolutely amazing. It's a fairly small local establishment with a great atmosphere which makes you feel right at home. The owner is very kind, friendly and personable and went out of his way to make us happy and comfortable. Food was just as amazing which sealed the deal for us, very delicious and authentic. I know the hours are a bit goofy but that is very minor inconvenience that will quickly be discarded once you sit down for dinner at this wonderful place. Tonight was the best night I've ever had since I moved to Denton. If I could give them 100 stars I would. I ate all of my food, even took a finger to get the rest of the sauce off of my plate. From the time I walked in the door, it was non-stop amazing service. I ate alone until I was invited over to another table. It was like having dinner in a restaurant full of family. I hope they remain in Denton forever. I also must eat here at least once a week from now on. Truly amazing! I had the Spinach ravioli but I also tried 5 other dishes from everyone at the table. Delicious! I ordered the tortellini dama bianca and basically licked my plate clean and ended with tiramisu! The service that provided me the dishes was also amazing! Super quick, respectful, and provided a really comfortable environmen. Definitely recommend! read more
