Found Fera's Italian through the Yelp app. This place is fantastic, but I have to tell you... Don't judge a book by its cover. It looks like a big old house just a couple of blocks off of downtown Denton Square. We went in, had the most fantastic appetizers and lunches. Met the owner. Food was fresh and fantastic, service was wonderful. There were three of us, one of us had the Pasta sampler, the other one had the Fera's sampler, and the third person had Chicken Florentine. Ordered calamari and garlic rolls for apps both good. Came with 4 people all of our entrees were delicious. Also ordered dessert: tiramisu and chocolate cheesecake. This is where is went downhill fast. My 8 year old pulled a press on nail out of his cheesecake. He bit into something hard and it was a press~on nail. New fear unlocked. This was two weeks ago: Super friendly atmosphere with tree trunks inside to make you feel as if you're dining Al fresco. Our party of 6 sat near the rear of the restaurant where happy young men were laughing and talking in Italian while wrapping up the flatware in napkins. It was comforting. The menu wasn't over complicated and we made our selections quickly. Our delightful server was a prompt and attentive young woman who seemed to be a daughter of the owner or something. We were excited for our food because the place smelled fabulous! THE FRESH, HOT ROLLS!! Oh my goodness. I was in bread Nirvana because those were the most amazing and delicious rolls I have EVER eaten!! I almost wanted to have just a huge plate of just those rolls, but I was looking forward to my order because if these rolls were any example of the rest of the food, I'm gonna start camping right next-door so I can eat here every day. LOL! No other side dishes come with your entrées, which was a little bit of a bummer, because I always love to have a salad with my meals. I also love to sample the in-house made salad dressings, because that really tells me a lot about the chefs. So I ordered a side salad, which was just simple, iceberg lettuce, a tomato slice and a pepperoncini. But the dressing was wonderful. Our orders arrived soon and looked amazing. My shrimp and scallops fettuccine Alfredo smelled heavenly even if the portion size looked a little small. One bite of their obviously housemade Alfredo sauce blew me away and I felt like I was transported back to northern Italy. The pasta was perfectly cooked al dente and my shrimp were also perfectly cooked and juicy. The one bad thing was the scallops as they were very tiny, and were hard as cork. That was a major disappointment when everything else was so wonderful. I didn't get a chance to sample the pizza, but my nieces apparently found it to be delightful. I did not wish to make a fuss and send the dish back, but if this happens again, I do encourage patrons to let the staff know. I'd return next time I'm in the area. read more

I've been going to FERA's since before it was Fera's. In the 80's and 90's, it was Bari's. Still owned by the same family. The food is great. I highly recommend their Stromboli or any of their specialty pastas. My go-to favorite is the pasta sampler. The house salad dressing is also good. Service was pretty good too. The only thing I didn't care for was their fried mozzarella. It felt like it was a frozen dish. Also, the building is tired and dirty inside and out. But I can accept that for the food quality. read more

Lately, I've been unable to say no to pasta. One day, while conferencing in Denton (a place where I once lived but was too poor to enjoy restaurant pasta), I decided to try Fera's. I've always known Fera's to be a mainstay in Denton. A place that locals love, and a place that is considered to have a pretty solid menu. On this day I really wanted a pink/ala vodka sauce, and I found just the item on the menu. Let me start from the start, however. Being on Oak, I was initially concerned about parking. At about Noon on the Thursday I arrived, I had no issue get parking next to the building. I can imagine, though, that a very busy dinner could limit parking issues on site. The inside had a older feel, and you walk in almost directly into the host stand. It was a little dark, a little dated, but fairly well kept. When I entered I stood there for a few moments, and then a waitress came and seated me, menu in hand. I found my tortellini ala vodka (I went without chicken) and it was great. The sauce was really balanced and the tortellini weren't too soft. Prior to the meal, the waitress brought out a single roll, and I was never offered another. I cannot be sure if they had a dinner salad available, or even lunch specials, because I was never offered. I couldn't order dessert even if I had wanted to, because the waitress was scarce. Despite this, the food was delicious and the price wasn't bad, either. A big positive for me - the diet coke on the soda fountain was really crisp and well balanced. A true thing of beauty! The single star ding is for the service, which J normally wouldn't subtract for, but the waitress was assuredly related to ownership, and that sort of speaks to the philosophy of the restaurant as a whole in those instances. Overall, I think I would try it again, as the food was worth it, but I don't know if it could easily become a "go-to" spot for a dining experience. Happy eating! read more

What a wonderful treat. My friend & I were passing through & needed carbs! Not knowing the area we wanted to avoid anything sketch. We felt perfectly safe (this is an important part of reviews now.) It's an adorable house turned restaurant, good layout, clean, not noisy, and perfectly charming. The food was good, traditional menu, the pasta was nice & thick. The servers were friendly, knowledgeable about the food/menu, and surprisingly were able to speak German with us. We would not hesitate to return. read more

BUG IN MY FOOD! Ordered a Caesar salad and pizza. Was so excited to try this place as we tried to come yesterday but it was closed for a private party. So thankful we went elsewhere. Today my salad came with a bug on top. I sent it back and refused a replacement. The owner came back and told me " it wasn't dead but flew off when he turned it over ". OMG-- do they charge extra to kill the bugs before putting them in the food? There were flies buzzing everywhere that I hadn't noticed before my salad. He asked if I still wanted my pizza and asked him to put it in a box to go. I was very surprised when he charged me full price for the pizza and for a glass of iced tea which I didn't drink. We yelped for a lunch place while driving through Denton. The 10 year old wanted pizza. We found this little hidden gem. We arrived to a quite quiet restaurant. Was greeted and seated. Drinks ordered and then lovely garlic rolls brought to the table. We devoured the rolls. My husband ordered a slice of pizza and an order of wings. He enjoyed the pizza and the wings. He did note the wings are a bit small, but he enjoyed them baked instead of fried for a change. The ten year old lived her pizza. I ordered the chicken Florentine with vodka sauce at the waiter/cooks recommendation. I was very pleasantly surprised. A very generous portion of fettuccine topped with an ample amount of veggies and chicken. Then I asked for vodka sauce which was a very well Flavored sauce. We will certainly be back. Fera's is a cute little Italian restaurant nestled right off of the Denton Square, near UNT's campus! We ordered the garlic rolls and garlic bread. The rolls are simple and airy, with a nice crunch. The cheesy garlic bread had such an amazing garlic flavor! The lasagna was incredible. The sauce is good, it has lots of layers and the ricotta is soft. The Chicken Aristocrat was my favorite! The sauce is similar to a vodka sauce, and it is nice and creamy without being heavy. The breaded eggplant is a good portion, and the spaghetti is always cooked right! I would have to say this is the best Italian in Denton, and it is approved by my Italian friend! read more

The owners are both super nice and know how to cook really good food! It doesn't look like a whole lot from the outside, but I would recommend to definitely go inside and eat! The food is great right from the start. The rolls are great. If an Italian restaurant can't get the bread right, I worry. But these are the excellent. The pasta is homemade, the sauces are absolutely delicious and fresh, and the crust is perfect. I got a calzone which was baked just right and filled generously. Don't judge this restaurant by the outside! It doesn't look like much and the building could use some work, BUT...the food was amazing. The spinach artichoke dip looked a little different than what you typically expect, but it was amazing! Especially dipped with the garlic bread rolls which were also cooked perfectly! I had the spaghetti with meat sauce, others in our group had beef ravioli, the chicken fettuccini, and pizza. Everyone agreed their food was great! However, what really impressed me was the service. Just one guy, most likely the owner, doing the serving, the cooking, and the cleaning!!! The craziest part of all is that he didn't miss a beat.
