The pizza I ordered was ok at best, the sliced Italian sausage on the pizza was not good at all, on the other hand the pie crust was good, all other toppings were average run of the mill Italian restaurant quality. Our waitress was very inattentive, despite the fact that we were the only people in her section. After 7 years, they still haven't figured out what Picata is. My daughter's spaghetti sauce tasted more like Chef Boyardee. Back to the server, we had to ask more than once for our second round of drinks. She never came to the table, after I received my salad, to see if I was satisfied. And again with the entrees, we were each about 1 bite away from completion, before she came to check on us for this course. My family went for lunch after church. We all ordered hamburgers and fries for our meal. The hamburgers were deep fried and crunchy and the fries were doubled fried. Lasagna and cheese ravioli were on the upper side of basic, my daughters cheese steak wrap was not good and I was quite surprised how thin and sweet their marinara was that came with the chicken roll. Chicken roll was nice but also basic. Nothing to write home about but given it's location with not a lot of other options along the highway, i'd say give it a try. The rolls were awesome! read more

Love this place, have been coming here for years since I was a 12 year old now 30. This place has some of the best pizza and pasta dishes around. Always great service and quality of food is great. Lots of pasta dishes to chose from. A very private banquet room to reserve for large crowds up to 25 people. Decor is elegant but has a casual atmosphere. A bar and outside covered patio to dining. Overall a great place for Italian food. It's gonna be my go to for pasta from now on. read more

I've been wanting to try this place since I would frequently pass it on the way to and from my kids' sporting events. They always seemed to have a good crowd by the amount of cars in the parking lot so I figured it must be good. We finally tried it, and it was a huge disappointment. We decided to get a few different items to see what they had to offer. We started with the mozzarella sticks. They were obviously not homemade and tasted like the mozzarella sticks you can get out of the frozen aisle at the grocery store. We tried the Alfredo Pizza and once we picked up a slice, all the toppings were sliding off. There was so much liquid. The taste was awful. We've had plenty of alfredo pizzas at different restaurants and this is hands down the worst we have ever had, easily. We got the Alfredo Matriciana and it was also disgusting. Alfredo, bacon, and cheese. Sounds delicious right? But it just had an overpowering smoke flavor and it just ruined the dish completely. We won't be returning. read more

My ex, took me there for a sort of I guess peace maker/re-kindle date last Friday. BLAH, I didn't want to go but decided to attend to hear his squeaks. The food and the service was very great. I had the tour of Italy and the RAT had a medium meat lovers pizza. The portions are very huge and satisfying. As for the RAT and his pizza, I had a slice and it was very good as well. Our waitress was very attentive and she kept me happy during the entire tooth pulling ordeal. I will definitely visit Giuseppe's in the future, just not with the RAT ever again. read more

First of all, even though it has a Petersburg mailing address, it's actually in Dinwiddie county. This is one family owned restaurant that continues to improve its interior. It has grown from a pizza and sub restaurant into a lovely Italian restaurant. Outside, it has an unassuming exterior with ample parking, but inside the owners have painstakingly and slowly improved the appearance to where you feel comfortable and enjoy your time there. The waitstaff is clean, friendly, and courteous; and everyone is friendly to families. Although reservations are not required, you should call ahead if you have a group larger than ten. The food is very good and plentiful, and they have an excellent selection and variety of dishes to choose from. Their pizzas are one of the things that I enjoy when I go there, although other members of my family also enjoy some of the other dishes there. I feel the hot subs are good, but the bread for the subs could be improved on. For example, there is a restaurant in Colonial Heights called Vincenzo's that switched to a better tasting sub roll several years ago, and that's where I enjoy eating my hot subs. Other than that, the food is excellent. Also, Giuseppe's onion rings are not quite as good as the ones Vincenz's. All in all, Giuseppe's is a restaurant that wants to improve and get better, and their food and waitstaff is quite good. Although they are located in the country, they have the feel of an Italian restaurant that is located in the city. read more

Had the meatball parmigiana sub. OK, but nothing special. Meatballs, only enough bland sauce to coat the tasteless bread, and a slice of cheese. Came with a bag of chips. Decent price, nice interior, but nothing special as I have apparently been here before and didn't bother to note it at that time as worthy of a return trip. Other items may be better. A major disappointment! I had been eating here for about 10 years, whenever racing autocross at VMP (about every 8 weeks in the summer). I stopped racing about 3 years ago, so It has been about that long since I was here. I was at a national level drag race last Saturday at VMP and so I planned to go here once again and promoted the place to a lot of people at the event as well. All I can say is the place must have changed hands since my last visit, the people, the food and the service was not at all what it used to be. It had been an old world family owned and operated business: Mother, Father, 2 Daughters and Son and possibly an Uncle as I remember, that were always there, very friendly and accommodating, and the food was completely authentic Italian and the best I've had including in Little Italy areas of New York City, New Jersey, Chicago, Buffalo. My favorites were always the House Seafood special and/or the Veal Marsalla. The veal was to die for, fresh cutlets hand pounded thin, breaded, fried and sauteed in a rich marsalla wine sauce and still pink in the middle. Saturday the races ran long so we left a little before they completely ended so as to get to Giuseppi's about 10:30 before the kitchen closed (altho I expected they would likely be open late as they had in the past, since there were still about 20,000 hungry people just down the road), and beat the major crowd I imagined would soon arrive there. My friend and I walked in to find the place empty(!!!) except for one table of 4. We were seated and the first thing I asked our waitress was "How's the veal tonight?" My standard to be friendly question commonly heard in Italian restaurants, I had always asked in the past. The reply I got shocked and surprised me: "I don't like veal so I don't eat it, but the chicken is made with the same sauces". "People say our veal is good" was later added as an afterthought when I didn't immediately order chicken. I had been thinking about their wonderful veal for days, so I ordered it anyways. My friend ordered a chicken alfredo dish. The main dishes unexpectedly arrived about 5 minutes after our salads, and I quickly understood why she didn't like the veal. The "meat" looked like it had been sliced off a prepared sausage loaf, uniformly thick rectangular slices of tan something with no breading to be found, heated in a watery broth that ran off the box noodles. No reduced sauce thickness, no buttery olive oil richness, no al dente fresh made noodles, with a minimal addition of mostly steamed onions and a splash of Marsalla for flavoring. My friend's dish, altho a good sized serving, was also devoid of the alfredo sauce! Not even up to Olive Garden standards. I mentioned to the waitress that the races were just ending so there might be a crowd arriving soon, "Yah we know, but we'll be closed by then!" Meanwhile the staff was rudely busy sweeping and mopping the floor around us and the couple other tables that came in right after us. She offered to put my 3rd glass of tea in a to go cup before I had finished my food or been offered desert. Their attitude surprised me, it wasn't like they were so busy they couldn't have accommodated the extra windfall business, especially in the current economy you don't turn people away if you expect to stay in business! This event will return to VMP in the fall, but I for one will be following my recommendation to eat somewhere else! read more
