My wife and I called in an order to pick-up late afternoon/early evening on Thursday July 28th, 2022. One small veggie pizza, One large Combo pizza and a pasta order. The person that took the order was obviously unfamiliar with the menu and asked no questions nor did they repeat the order to us. My wife called in the order, wrote down what the order was and I went in to pay and pick it up. One male employee immediately noticed the side included in the pasta order was not there so I choose that on-the-spot. He said "our trainee took the order, sorry about that". That is fine, they fixed it and all was good. The small veggie pizza was made incorrectly. The combo pizza was small instead of large. So everything in the order was wrong. A young female (blond/brown hair - slightly curled), maybe in high school or college was at the counter when I discovered the wrong order and I told her all the mistakes. She was obviously not believing me. She said "let me go ask what they were told". I was in disbelief I was being questioned about what I ordered. My wife who took the order is extremely exact plus I heard her place the order. The employee returned from the back and said "yea...they said they were told a small", then she stood there like I just need to take the order as-is without question and I was trying to play a scam or something on them. I started telling her, no this is not what we ordered, holding the piece of paper my wife had wrote out reading her the correct order. The employee said, and I quote "Sir, we can't just go by a piece of paper you brought in". I was then furious and in disbelief. I said, "you're right, it's not just a piece of paper, it's what we ordered...it's what we want. I heard the order being placed!!". She still just stood there looking at me like I was a crazy person. I asked "How are we going to fix this",. She then grudgingly said: "we can give you a discount". I told her "I don't want a discount, I want the correct food I ordered". She said "We can make you a new pizza, it will take 20 min. or I can give you a discount". I didn't have 20 min. so I took the discount and left with most of my order wrong. I've been a customer at Giuseppe's for over 20 years. Never did I think the customer would not only be wrong, but also discounted as not knowing what they are talking about. The trainee getting the order wrong I understand. The procedure and attitude on how to deal with it is beyond unacceptable. Obviously, a serious lack of training on proper customer service at higher levels as well. Will not be going back. They lost a long time customer. read more

The pizza is .... pretty much terrible. The dough is a thoughtless bready and forgettable gut-bomb - not properly proofed, risen, aged. The toppings (pepperoni and black olives in our case) combined with cheese made for a greasy mess that soaked the bottom of the box. Perhaps they don't give their lunch time recipes the attn they deserve?? Maybe not one of their specialty items?? You would do better with a $5 frozen pizza from Freddies - use the savings to buy a nice OR pinot noir to go with your frozen pie... read more

Went there for lunch today. 11.00 for lasagna. It came in a small dish piping hot with cheese and a side of toasted french bread. I was excited. I took my fork to it, and sadly realized it was just a mess of cheese and pasta with hardly any sauce or meat to speak of. the cheese was also just on the top of the dish that had been put under a salamander to make the cheese bubbly. Probably one of the worst lunches i have ever had in my life. I had been here once before for lunch and got the ziti with meat sauce. I thought as i left last time i could make a better penne with meat sauce at home for myself. The prices were also insane. I had one whisky with lunch and the total came to 19.75! I came in from out of town with friends and we decided to try this place. Once we walked in, it had a really interesting vibe of old school casino meets old school restaurants. Old school office style leather chairs and duct taped booth seats. Ok then. Ordered the chicken marsala as did a friend. We got served a side of spaghetti with what seemed and tasted like boneless chicken wings in very watery sauce. I have never seen such a thing. Two pepperoncinis and two slices of steamed or grilled tomatoes floating in it but definitely not any sort of chicken marsala that I have ever had. Left most of it behind and am actually still pretty hungry. For almost $30 a plate, not a great experience because I am going to bed hungry. But, life isn't without adventures and now I know better. Server was nice but didn't really come around much and we sat for almost 15 minutes before she grabbed our check so we could leave. All in all, would not go again but glad that we ventured out to try something new. The best part of the meal was the drive there. Not telling you not to go, but for the cost of each plate, you could hit the Olive Garden for better food. Save your money (we spent over $110, four entrees and a carafe of wine (wine was good).). As always though, tip your server well (promise we did). Additional info- my friend that had the chicken marsala with my was sick from the food all night. If you are getting food to go you are best off ordering one of their fantastic pizzas. We ordered chicken marsala and chicken Guiseppis. We got 2 rancid stinky salads that was rotting arugula and croutons. Seriously, the boxes oozed brown drippings when I dumped them in the garbage. The Guiseppis chicken was good but packed poorly. They put the top on with too much sauce that it spilled all over soaking everything in its path. The chicken marsala was not chicken marsala. I've never seen paprika in this dish and let me tell you it had a lot. It tasted like fajitas. The spaghetti it came with was floating in red sauce and we didn't get our antipasto. The one girl at the register was so rude even though I tipped her very well. A thank you would have been nice. And the girl that got our food had a wild mess of long hair that she couldn't keep her hands out of. She was very sweet so thats just a bad manager. This is definitely a case where the service destroys any chance for a positive overall review. Positives: You know, they load up the pizza. You definitely don't feel wanting. The crust is a bit bready, but overall solid. The antipasto plate: tons of cold cuts and cheese. Nice. Negatives: Service - it's a nightmare. The servers should have there own TV Show (Gresham Shore?). More than once I've been there and they are in the back just doing everything but work. Special Award: This is the only restaurant (in the history of me going out) that I went to the cashier (some 18 year old kid) and said, "Hey, I know it's not your deal, but I'm not giving that sorry excuse for a server a dime. My coworkin ladies ordered two large pizzas here for lunch, a veggie and grilled chicken, $42.70! Holy balls! Call me a cheapass, but over $40 for two 'meh' pizzas is a bit rough. Somebody also ordered a side salad ($3.70) which they forgot to put on the orig tab,so they had to run the card twice upon pick-up. The grilled chicken was a bit over spicy for my likes, and the veggie was on thin crust which was alright. I just wasn't altogether thrilled. So I cross checked the address with a citysearch entry, this joint got 5 stars on there, goodness! I have been a neighborhood patron for over 15 years. i have spent 100's of dollars at this place for as long. The staff is underwhelming, struggling, and could care less. They were more concerned with their costumes for Halloween than doing their job. I simply went to pick up a pizza. i ordered a beer while i waited. and was told to" move over" because some "regulars" wanted to chew on some ice!...? and clear out their 12.00 tab.!!.and cash in their $8 poker slip...Meanwhile, i spent about $35 IN 10 MINUTES, not including TIP. The bartender was rude, telling me " oh, they were just out smoking, you cant sit there" ok, fine. but then they left!! i sat there for 10 minutes, finally asking the bar back, if it was ok for me to move OUT of the server station to finish my beer. I honestly don't understand all the negative reviews. This place is a go-to of mine when I have visiting family. My brother-in-law is Italian. My son's girlfriend is Italian. Both of them loved this place. I love this place. My favorites from the menu are the chicken parmigiana sandwich for lunch and the linguine with clam sauce for dinner. The pizza is always good and the meatballs are good in anything. Their mozzarella is homemade. Their croutons are homemade. Their sauces are homemade. Their meatballs are a secret that I've dedicated too much time trying to replicate. Everything comes with a salad and dinners come with a really good antipasto plate. Went here tonight with my family. I haven't been to the restaurant in probably 20 years and had always avoided it because I had heard bad things in recent years from friends. Ordered the Jumbo Mushroom Ravioli for about $16 bucks. The waiter was blunt to the point of being rude and seemed to be in a rush for us to order 30 seconds after we sat down. And especially when I am with family I am not a fan of waiters handing you food once it arrives like you are the one holding them back from their other customers. My ravioli was easily some of the worst Italian food I have ever had. If I could describe it....it was like eating a plate of Campbell's mushroom soup. With no salt added. This place was nothing special. Three stars to me was actually generous. It's three stars for a west coast Italian place because the west coast doesn't know Italian. If this place were in the east coast, it'd get negative stars. The "salad" was a plate of iceberg lettuce with a pile of bagged croutons on top. Not even a shredded carrot. Just iceberg lettuce. The antipasti was low-quality, sliced salami, low quality mozzarella cheese and pre-sliced pepperoni. No bueno. I got the linguini with clam sauce. I've never seen anything like it. First, the used fettuccine noodles and they were terribly overcooked. Next, it was a cream sauce, not a clam broth. I imagine this is the sauce they use on their Alfredo. It was pasty and gelatinous and I got more than one bite of gummy, uncooked flour "roux"; which shows they have no idea how to make an Alfredo either. I got hot sausage on the side, and it was obviously pre-frozen as there was no flavor at all. Very disappointing, not to mention, misleading. My husband is much more forgiving (he's not Italian) so his meal is where they recouped some stars. He got the veal parm and the manicotti combination. If you overlook the pool of grease on the top of each (a result of oily, poor-quality melted cheese) these dishes weren't bad. The sauce had a decent flavor and the veal was actually a good, thick slice. The manicotti filling was good as well, although, again, a low quality ricotta was used so it was a bit runny. We won't return, as the pricing was exorbitant for the poor quality. This place needs a lesson in quality ingredients and basic preparation. We were promptly seated for dinner for four and helped right away. Our waitress was very sweet and brought us our beverages and antipasti. The antipasti is nothing special, but this isn't a high-class Italian joint, either. Salad is just a basic garden salad with a few croutons and stuff, also nothing special. The pasta dishes were good and had flavorful meat sauce. I got the gnocchi which wasn't that great, but my mom got baked ziti and it was smothered in cheese (which is OK by me!) The servings are huge, including the bread. They give you basically a loaf of garlic bread just for the basket alone. It's nuts! Definitely enough to go around and you don't need to ask for extra. As someone that grew up not too terribly far from Giuseppe's I am very surprised it took me til my 29th year to finally eat here. I went for lunch during the week so it was fairly quiet, which I kinda like. I got the spaghetti with vegetarian marinara sauce along with a salad and some of the cheesy bread. It was all very good...you can really tell when Italian is traditional. I believe it is a family run business. No wonder they have been around for so long. This is based on 30 years of being a patron of Giuseppe's not a single meal. I think I've ordered about 1/2 the menu over the years and we have our favorites including Chicken Parmigiana Giuseppe's with Fettucine Alfredo and Vegetarian sauce Riggatoni. Plenty of food, hot, and just Yum! Deliziosa! This is one of those restaurants that I recommend consistently and will continue to do so. Do they screw up? The mixed reviews on this place totally make sense. The pizza is amazing but everything else on the menu is bland and not good at all as well as extremely over priced. $16 for fettuccine Alfredo; the sauce tasted like paste, just terrible. The garlic bread is basically french bread with butter and garlic powder, I could get that at the grocery store bakery. Spaghetti with meat sauce, I can make that better at home. My husband and I have been coming here for years, usually the food is pretty amazing but the past few times have been disappointing. We always get the chicken parmesan sandwich, but I branched out and got the spaghetti and meatballs. My plate was full of water! It's like they didn't even bother draining the noodles. I've been to many pizza joints around Portland and this is not the worst but definitely not the best. The prices are kinda spendy and the food is just decent in my opinion. Of the various pizzas i have tried i would say the spicy chicken is my favorite. It has a good portion of chicken and the spice is not too overpowering. The portions on all the pizzas are pretty good as well. My huge complaint is that the pizzas are quite greasy. They tend to leave me using 5 napkins to clean off my hands after I'm done.. We've been to Guiseppe's many times over the past years and always had good experiences. This was not the case today. It's been about 6 months since we were here last and it seems that the quality of food and service has diminished quite drastically. We ordered a small pizza and in addition to the 3 toppings that were included, we added pepperoncini's on one half and cooked tomatoes on the other half. What we got was very light on ALL the toppings and practically non existent for the tomatoes. The pepperoncini's were put over the entire pizza, not just half, as ordered. The two extra toppings cost $5.50, which seems a little high to me. I expect to pay more for the additional toppings, but I also expect I would taste those toppings in every bite. I was lucky to get one measly piece of chopped tomato per slice. Not only that, the pizza wasn't cooked thoroughly and was doughy, the soda was $2.45 (served in a small glass), the service was slow (it wasn't busy) and my stomach is now feeling a little queasy from the uncooked dough. (I had one small slice of pizza, couldn't choke down another one) Our bill today was $36.00 and I'm feeling rather cheated. I was craving pizza and wish I had won the coin toss of which place we were going dine at. My choice was Flying Pie. I would have paid the same amount, had 5x the toppings and flavor, AND been entertained with pinball games! Here are some good points to this place. 1. Great parking 2.
