The set up is pretty neat here. Go in, tell them if you're dining in or getting something to go, they give you a bowl then you walk over to the little bar area and you get to "hand" pick (they have tongs) a frozen meat (cut in thin slices: i.e., pork, chicken, beef), noodles (one option), veggies (i.e., mung beans, mushrooms, spinach, onion, bell pepper, baby corn, etc; they also have peanuts if you wanna get creative). Pack your food into the bowl, pick a sauce (they have like 8 sauces? If not more? I recommend the House Sauce) and then hand the uncooked food bowl to the kind cook behind the bar of raw veggies. You get to watch your food cook & sizzle on a flat grill. The guys who work there are polite, professional, quick and great at what they do. The location and interior are okay for a dinner or lunch date with friends, family, or significant others. Check this place out for the gooooood grub and service. read more

Horrible , the food sucks . The cook was a **hole. Told him that I didn't want any sauce except for it to be spicy , he looked at me like I was dumb and said i have to put sauce cause he has to cook it on the grill lol. Got home started eating and the food literally has 0 taste , he didn't put in any of the spicy ingredients he said he was gonna put in . The meat is DRY he over cooked it . Horrible attitude , horrible cook . Not surprised the place is empty with 100 open seats . I recommend eating at the Mongolian grill spot in Modesto at the mall . I finally went to GK Mongolian BBQ after wanting to try it for quite a while. I walked in and was greeted. I had planned on taking it to go, so the waitress handed me a bowl in order to fill it up with whatever I wanted. I went to the buffet-styled food bar to see the variety. First, they have their frozen meats, then noodles, then fresh-cut veggies. I was a little thrown off by how you had to add noodles to your bowl because other Mongolian BBQ restaurants have a bowl filled with noodles at the end of the line, apart from meat/veggie bowl. Because of this, you have less room for the meat/veggies. Once you fill up your bowl and are towards the end of the food bar, you have the choice of choosing your own oils and flavors. I've never done it myself, so it was a little intimidating because I didn't want it to have too little flavor or too much flavor. They do have a cheat sheet hanging about all of the different flavors to help you out. If you take your food to go, they give you so much stuff in the bag. I received a small box of white rice, chips, sesame bread, and a free drink (promotion at the time) apart from my bowl. Overall, this place is just good. read more

This place is OK. I had high expectations because I LOOOVEE the Mongolian bar in the Modesto Mall. Walking in I was greeted and asked if it was for here or to go, took it to go. Young lady asked if I wanted anything to drink and told me to go ahead and fill a bowl. What I like about this place is that you can add as many noodles as you like. The veggie area was very plain and small and hardly filled up. Next you go to the sauce area, there's about 8 different kinds of sauces, I went with the House special. It took about almost 10 minutes from either one of the guys in the back counter to come and take my bowl although they had acknowledged I was standing there. The guy came and put on a hat and went to wash his hands but ran one hand through the water lol he scraped something off the big metal cook thing which looked like it had not been cleaned properly. I absolutely love GK Mongolian. One of my favorite places. This was my first time at the Turlock location and I was pretty disappointed in the service and they were also out of multiple items even though dinner started only 30 minutes before. I asked for the missing items and the cook responded (making no eye contact) "we're out". He was very rude about it and most likely lying. The most disgusting restaurant I've been to yet . They need the municipal services up in here . The floor was filthy , the sauce station was dripping with spilt sauces and bits of uncooked food . Their idea of having patrons serve themselves is a horror . Everyone has a different version of how to pile their bowls. We saw a lady with boils on her arm touching the tongs trying the get the last bit of noodle on her already spilling bowl . One of the servers used his bare hands to scoop the remaining tray of beef onto the new tray . The carpet had bits of stuff all over . There aren't enough staff so they can't keep up with the high holy mess going around . I feel a bit sick to my stomach . Never never again . First time and last time here. SUPER FILTHY!! Vegetables were all over the counter mixed with all the other vegetables! The sauces had vegetables inside and let me not get to The grill itself! It Was gross filled with residue yet they were still cooking people's food like that!! The cooks were extremely rude. I did not want to mix the raw meat with my noodles so I grabbed a different plate to separate the raw meat and they gave me grief over that. If you like mongolisn beef you will love this place! The bowls are small, but it's all you can eat. It was so filling I only needed one trip to the bar. Love GK Mongolian bbq, but here at this location (compared to Modesto on coffee rd) Noodles are very dry, even after tons of sauces. My utensils were dirty when first given to me, and I also had to look thru the bowls to find a clean one. Rice was also hard and dry. I think I'll stick to the Modesto location. read more

Honestly this place can be good and sometimes it sucks it depends That's why I'm giving it a ok review. Last time I was there it was terrible the noodles were really SOGGY and SLIMY. However they were nice about it and didn't charge me after I complained. I've had very good experiences here in the past but the last few times I have been here this place was terrible. This was the worst experience I have ever had so bad that I went through the headache of signing up for yelp. It was my wife and I anniversary and she is 5 months pregnant. We were unaware of how the buffet worked and we left the noodles off the plate. The two cooks refused to add noodles and said we had to wait back in line to add noodles. I spoke with the waitress poor girl was by herself no other help. She said she would get some noodles cooked for us and the cooks refused to cook it for her and threw the bowl of noodles away. She called the manager I believe I'm not sure if she had the support of her manager. All in all we walked out the waitress was upset and she did not charge us for the food that we did not eat. I have been going to GK Mongolian BBQ in Stockton for years now and always had a pleasant experience. Now that they are in Turlock near my home I thought it would be great to check out with friends. We went on Sunday June 10th and it was the worst! The grill was so dirty that our noodles were practically black from all the leftover sauce caked on there, the flavor was not good at all (and we know how it's supposed to taste because we are seasoned GK goers). Additionally we started eating and some of the vegetables tasted sour. Their broccoli had gone bad (I told the server he seemed unalarmed but went into the back and changed it out for fresh one) The other vegetables also looked old, clearly not freshly cut that day. Only one server, it was difficult to get his attention because he was busy serving other tables and door dash orders but I will say he wasn't rude. 2 Stars for the food. The cooks do a good job with the food and seem to know what they are doing with the sauces. Table service is lacking, though as I had to ask for water refills, twice, and get my own to go box. Now, if I could give 0 stars for cleanliness, that would be generous. Food and sauces are spilled on the counters and floor. Hire someone to wipe the counters and get rid of the disgusting carpets in front of the food area. Tile is much more sanitary and easier to clean. Men's room was dirty and no paper towels to dry hands. Won't go back unless this GK cleans up its act. Other GK's aren't like this. Come on, you've a good thin goin' here; just keep the place clean. read more

Gk mongolian in Turlock. This place is the worst ever. Daniel the general manager told me that I was a liar after my family came home sick 10 min ago. He told me there would be no refund and that I was trying to scam him. Daniel did not care that we went to his restaurant and were feeling sick before we left. I would advise all to steer clear of this establishment as it is very dirty and they will be turned into the BBB and the health department. Allen the cook said he really didn't care about us getting sick and that the restaurant being dirty was from the "Customers". Sounds like great customer service to me. read more

So based on the other reviews, I've skipped trying this place for some time because I don't like eating food that isn't fresh, or seems dirty in the area, I'm picky when it comes to that. Anyway tonight because I do love Mongolian bbq we decided to try it out... it did not disappoint and we will be back. Everything was clean and fresh (this could be cuz the turn over, they were busy). Our meal was all you can eat so that was awesome, they were on top of making sure drinks were filled! It's not the best place to eat but I think a lot of the bad reviews are unwarranted. Specifically the one about how unclean it is. For what it is, it was pretty clean. It's essentially a self serve so there is a going to be some mess in that area at all times. But the floors in the dining area were clean as was the table we sat at. Someone left a negative comment stating that they don't clean the grill after every cook or something. Unless you have some kind food allergy, you don't want them to clean the grill very often, you have to use a lot more sauce if the grill was recently cleaned. Some people also left negative comments about the service, the service seemed fine to me. Our server was polite, pretty, and checked up on us frequently, and what else can you ask for? All of that being said, the selection was pretty small, the veggies didn't seem fresh, the rice and egg rolls were a little underwhelming, the only spicy things to add were jalapenos, and the set-up of the area where you pass your bowl to the cooks was kind of odd. read more

Went here on a double date to try it out. We were greeted at the door, but as soon as we walked in the door she hastily asked what we wanted to drink before we were seated. It was fine, just a little odd. It was a new experience so it took us a while to dish out our "toppings", but they were not busy on a Saturday night at 6:30 so that was nice. I didn't think I had a super cascading bowl like others I had seen before and after, but I still had a hard time keeping everything in my bowl and not spilling. The ground near all the sauces was kind of sticky, but it was not that bad and not very unexpected since there is around 7 sauces that are self serve. After my food was cooked (pretty promptly), I asked the waitress where I was sitting and she pointed me to a nicely set table with everything all over it. Our waters, rice, some little sesame bread rolls, and some fried stuff with sweet and sour sauce, and some weird tofu soup that tasted like chicken noodle soup. It was unexpected and looked very nice. I then went to the bathroom to wash my hands and that was the only really bad part of the trip for me.....that bathroom was GROSS!! The ground was so sticky all over the floor probably from people bringing the sauce on their shoes to the restroom. But man, that made me cringe. The toilet paper roll holder was open and the toilet was disgusting. Like it hadn't been cleaned in a few days....like the rest of the bathroom. I came back out, A little grossed out; but my hands were cleaned. I ate my meal and enjoyed almost everything given. I didn't like the soup very much, but I think it was just personal preference. The waitress was nice and the cooks were pleasant. I'd say it was a good meal and definitely worth the price we paid. I will probably come again with my mother who loves stir fry and can hopefully update this review with a more positive report. My co-worker insisted that we come here today. I've never been to a Mongolian BBQ style establishment before, so I was excited to try it. The location is prime, and when I walked in I was greeted by a pretty friendly waitress. The decor was...Lazy and although they've only been there for a month, everything looked like it had been there for ages. Upon serving myself, I came across thin slices of assorted meats (which I liked) and I opted for the Turkey. I was pleased with the plethora of produce options (although they were running low on each item) and so many sauces to choose from! My only issue there was the area with all of the sauces was disgustingly messy, the restaurant itself wasn't particularly clean actually. The food was cooked thoroughly and in a timely manner and upon being seated we were served with rice, egg rolls and soup. The soup was jelly like but good (I'm not big on soup anyway) and the egg roll was very good. Now to the food, I don't know if it was because I didn't pile on enough sauce (I did ladle up a lot of sauce), but it really didn't have a lot of flavor unfortunately. I mean, I know I made it myself but I think the sauces themselves just weren't doing the trick. I never salt my food, but I had to, and I piled on the hot sauce just to get some flavor in there. It was an OK experience, but I wouldn't rush there anytime soon. When the waitress told me they're always busy in the evenings I about fell over. Today our group was informed that sweet and sour sauce is only served at dinner. They serve egg rolls at lunch without the sweet and sour sauce. Really? I am shocked at the reviews on here! I admit I've only been here for takeout but every time has been great! The cooks are very nice and the girls ringing up at the counter have also been great. Food has always good and love how it's piping hot! While many people are complaining about how this place looks dirty, it really comes down to the consumer. Don't be a slob and pile you bowl so high you spill everything everywhere. I Really love going to this place!!! You create your own dish, you add the meat, vegetables, and fruit to your dish.. And you spice it up the way you like with a variety of sauces and oils and garlic powder. Any person here on yelp, that gives this less than three stars is just telling on them selves, that they don't know how to cook or how to spice up a dish. Because here at the Mongolian barbecue 50% is on you, you are creating your dish and they cook it for you, right in front of you.. So when someone tells me that they don't like the food here they really are just saying that they don't know how to cook or prep a meal, honestly... And if you are new here the cooks are really good on giving you advice on what is common for people to add to their plate to create a basic dish... So all the people here they gave this place will 1 star, i'd hate to go to your house for dinner because you you're basically saying you don't know how to cook.. read more
