After a very stressful day of work, I decided to treat myself and headed straight for their sushi bar. My brother and I came here for Happy Hour on a whim and I was so impressed with the food/flavors! We got the tuna poke fish tacos, and it was freshest fish I've had in awhile. I was blown away! Now for the not-so-great news. The lychitini that I raved about? It was a bit too sweet this time, missing that perfect balance. The Sky Deck is a really neat spot and all of the restaurants have their own unique ambiance to them. I love the concept and have been to other places like this, but the decor all around was lovely! Hubs and I chose the Glass Box. The lychee martini is one of his new favorite drinks in sd which says a lot. Glass Box offered a 3 courses for $50 deal for Restaurant Week. I typically go to an Italian restaurant during Restaurant Week, but wanted to switch it up for this year. It was an amazing choice because not only was the food delicious, but there was so much food that I ended up taking leftovers home. Course 1: I chose the Chirashi Bowl (8 pieces of chef's choice sashimi). My bowl came with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and amaebi (sweet shrimp). Each piece was perfectly cut, delicious, and fresh. I could not stop eating it. The amaebi was such a nice surprise, because it's one of my favorites and doesn't usually appear in most of the chirashi bowls that I've ordered in other restaurants. Course 2: I got the Corn Potage (Japanese corn soup). This was creamy and tasty. Course 3: The Butter Shoyu Chicken had perfectly crispy skin, and the chicken thigh meat remained juicy on the inside. Dessert: There was a chef's choice cake with ice cream on top. It was a sweet ending to the meal. The server was quick and efficient, and refilled my green tea very promptly. She also timed each course really well, and would bring the next course right when I finished the previous one. I would highly recommend this restaurant for Restaurant Week, and will be back to try more dishes during non Restaurant Weeks too! read more

However, the lunch and happy hour menus are good deals. I would rate the sushi as good but not great. Most was very good but my salmon sashimi and roll were fishy smelling and tasting. The old fashioned was pretty whiskey forward. Tried the yuzu shochu and wow it was sour. Had a bit of all their skewers. I liked the beef the most. We ordered rolls but I didn't have any. We came here for a happy hour on Wednesday at around 4pm. This place is in the back of a pretty cool food hall on the 2nd floor of this mall. There was plenty of parking (although it might not be very close to your destination). Our party of 6 was one of the few patrons at this restaurant so we were seated immediately. The lighting is very dim (so bring your glasses and use your cell phone light folks). The happy hour menu was pretty extensive. There were many shareable bites (pork belly skewers, shishito peppers,spicy tuna roll, spicy scallop roll, and california roll), oysters on a half shell, and a good selection of drinks. The pork belly skewer was pretty tasty. The pork belly itself was tender and had a good smoky flavor. The rolls were solid, but nothing to write home about. They were all variations on a california roll. I ordered the samurai old fashioned and it was very booze forward but didn't have the typical bite of a booze forward drink. The lychee martini was pretty tasty and the lychee garnish was a great snack. The oysters were shucked very nicely, but the oyster liquor was missing (pro for some, con for some...con for me). They were also larger than the typical happy hour oyster, but my stomach has reported that it was fresh. They pre-topped each oyster with a spicy ponzu sauce which was pretty tasty! I can't believe I've been living under a rock and this was my first time at Sky Deck! It's a beautiful food stall market with some great eateries including Glass Box! Everything was quite good, just not on the top of my favorites sushi list. Fish quality was decent. Rolls were creative and good. My favorite was the salmon three ways as it had ikura and crispy salmon skin inside the roll that added a nice crunch to it. I also really enjoyed the crispy tuna rice and my spicy salmon hand roll. It was actually spicy (where most places down play the spice in it) Their lunch special galbi was also a hit for the kiddo dining with us. It's a great portion/deal for $18! We got there super early and was sat right away. Guy was our server and was pleasant as well. I'd definitely come back to try some other things. Next was the 8-piece Sashimi Tasting, and it was just as impressive. Fresh, beautifully plated. For my entrée, I had the Filet Mongolian Style, and it was perfectly cooked. The flavors all worked so well together, and the dish was rich and satisfying without being too heavy. Dessert was chef's choice, and while I'm not exactly sure what it was, I wish I knew so I could find it again--it was amazing! Such a perfect sweet ending to the meal. The oysters were probably our favorite part of the meal and we were pleased to get them on happy hour as overall the prices here are a bit higher than your average sushi spot in San Diego. Additionally, sitting at the railing was okay but with people constantly walking past it felt a little like sitting on a sidewalk patio without much privacy.
