Got a flyer for the sop at SouthShore carwash (my windshield was cracked). Got an estimate through their website. Called to make an appointment. Spoke to Marcel on the phone. He started asking about windshield type, rain sensor etc, so I was ready to see the original estimate go up... But nope. Came in, windshield was already in the shop waiting. As part of regular service they remove the old windshield, scrape down any rust and install a new windshield complete with weatherstripping for from what I can tell a great price compared to other outfits. they have a storefront so are not a fly by night operation. All this done in an organized, no nonsense way within the hour that I dropped into the facilty on Part St. Alameda. Plus work is guaranteed except of course for rocks but they do repair chips. So I find the car I want... but it's in of all places Mississippi. Cool... this means a flight out and 10 day road trip home! We zig zag the trip back over ten days and over 3,000 miles. We are 10 miles from home and a missile rock detonates a chip in the windshield. Argh. We call two places higher rated on Yelp and they both say $50 bucks with a future appt time needed. We then call GlassTek and Marcel answers and explains the services of most insurance plans on window chips and says he can do the work later in the day (timing was good - I get that's a part of this positive review). However, he not only did a good repair job, he took care of all the paperwork and payment in about 10 min. No fuss on my part at all. So, of all things just three days later - another whap bamm on the windshield followed by a symphony of color commentator prose from my lips. I found a long crack in my windshield when I came back from a 2 week trip, and it grew about 3 inches a few days later so I figured I should get my windshield changed ASAP. Stupid big rigs...stupid rocks. After my losing battle with freeway rocks launched at my windshield by a truck, I ended up with a chip on the glass. Well, apparently it's not the best idea to let it sit without fixing it because that chip quickly turned into a 3 foot crack across the whole windshield. Lucky for me, I drive into Alameda for work pretty often and noticed GlassTek right there. How could you not? They have nice signs and gargantuan flags right out front - you can't miss the place, it's right next to the smog shop. The counter guy had a positive attitude and quickly got me signed in for my appointment. I took a walk down the block and sat around drinking coffee. By the time I came back (1/2 hour?), they had already completed the job and water tested it (apparently, not all shops do this and it's pretty darn important). They also offer mobile service if you'd rather have them come to you. I have the luxury of taking long coffee breaks, so I just took it in. Plus, it's nice to know that they have a physical location in case you ever have any problems. I never recommend getting a crack in your windshield, but if you do, I highly recommend having GlassTek take care of it. read more

The whole job took less than an hour. Marcel was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. Pricing was straightforward and reasonable. I chose not to file an insurance claim, but if you do, they are very experienced and adept at working with insurance companies. They also have a free wifi connection so you can work or check your email while you wait. I would recommend GlassTek to anyone, and I will be using them in the future!
