A perfect spot to stop for a sugar fix. I am a lover of Voodoo Donuts in Portland and Glazed Donuts surpasses their quality of yummy goodness. The place has a few tables to eat inside and they offer amazing donuts, hot and cold beverages. I came back twice on my trip to Key West because one taste is not enough. On my 1st visit, I had the maple bourbon glazed donut with candied bacon...oh.my.gosh!!! So much flavor and light as air. Today, I had the Cuban coffee donut which was equally as delish! Light and flaky with a coffee cream to die for. My cappuccino was perfectly frothed, too. I love this place! It will definitely be a regular stop on my visits to Key West. read more

We were meandering around Key West after visiting the Hemingway house. We were not due back on our cruise ship for awhile and a couple of women were raving about these doughnuts so we decided to pop in. OMG these were yummy. I am a HUGE fan of fritters and I've never had one with almonds and now I think they should always be made with almonds. LOL It was bigger than my hand and I was stuffed after one. Perfectly crispy on the edges, moist on the inside, crunch of the almonds was a nice touch. Mmmmm My BFF got a classic chocolate frosted doughnut and she said it was a sweet, yeasty goodness. The selection differs depending on the day, and once inside you have a nice display to let you drool over as you choose your posion. My friends all know I'm a dessert girl and sometimes even look at the dessert menu at restaurants before placing my dinner order just to make sure I don't miss out. But donuts aren't usually what I like but I had tried their donuts a while ago when the porch was doing a breakfast and beer special and they were really good. I hadn't returned until one night after leaving a movie we grab some donuts. The place is really clean and really adorable. Don't expect to you selection but everything they had I really enjoyed. My favorite donut was not one of the ones I picked with our box of 12 but I tried my fiancé's Lemon Poppy Cake and it was SOOOO good. Maple Bourbon and the Chocolate Lovers were both AH-mazing too. I'll be upfront and tell you this review is based on one donut, the bacon maple. One one hand the base donut was very good, one of the best I would say. So a plus there. But the bacon didn't sing threw like I was hoping. There was nice locking bacon one top, but it was so candied with cinnamon and sugar it totally overwhelmed the bacon flavor that should have sung with the maple. So I really can't give them 5 stars because their "dish" was unbalanced. And yes I know how much that makes me sound like a snob! But when a bacon donut does not taste like bacon the bacon gods are displeased! On the other hand, you totally know these guys are watching all the same food and travel shows as us foodies and decided to go out and start making artisanal donuts. Did I just really type that? Well it is true, the base donut was excellent and typified the artisanal ideal of making things of quality with care. That keeps them a solid 4 stars, even if the bacon gods are displeased. The selection is small (about a dozen options) but extraordinary, including an Apple Almond Fritter, Maple Bourbon with Candied Bacon, and Key Lime Pie. You can always opt for the basic Glazed or Chocolate too. In addition to the donuts, we orders a half dozen holes (at only $1.75), a hot chocolate, and a cappuccino. The drinks were good. Cappuccino was a little bitter for my taste...I added sugar (something I do about half the time I order them). The atmosphere is bright. The day we were there background music was current songs played at a noise level of about a 5-6, loud enough to distract during "harder" guitar songs, but generally not disruptive to conversation. I could not resist the Maple Bourbon with Candid Bacon Donut; this donut was perfect, fluffy, and covered in a sweet but not overpowering maple frosting with just a hint of bourbon flavor. There were three of us in our party and we each opted for a different donut. One had the glazed knot (a caramel, knot style donut), another had the cinnamon sugar and I chose the Tangerine Cream donut. Mine was a flaky, friend donut loaded with a rich tangerine cream filling that was a cool mix of refreshing and decadent. In addition to the three donut options that we selected, there were about 6-7 additional styles that could have been chosen including a bourbon bacon donut and other high-quality options. Coffee ordered here is served in a mug if you want to hang there and the staff was attentive and friendly and the donut shop was bright and clean. So what did I purchase? Near perfection is all. Bacon Bourbon Glazed: grabbed 2 of these because we have bacon with a bourbon glaze how can we not. Strawberry Shortcake: better than it sounds Blood Orange: I'm a huge fan of blood oranges and this jelly filling was off the charts good. Chocolate Frosted: yeah this is more than just an ordinary chocolate frosted donut. It's what they all should be. Orange Creamsicle: They had me at orange. So what did I like about these donuts besides their intense flavors? Well for one they had some serious bite to them.
