Apparently many others thought the same thing - but we were wrong. This Faye is a completely different woman! She used to be in The Glen Center, til she moved here in 2010. She offers alterations and full on tailoring of all kinds - leather and wedding gowns even. Today my friend & I had a bunch of pants that needed hemming, but now that we know who to go to for detailed tailoring, we will be back again. I was referred to Christine's Tailoring…read moreAlterations by a friend and trusted Christine with an important gown I was wearing to the Emmy Awards. I paid $400, and the result was honestly unbelievable. Christine never measured me. Not once. Everything was guesstimated. The corset was originally too small and the skirt was enormous, so Christine took excess fabric from the skirt to expand the back of the corset. Somehow, after alterations, a dress that started out too small came back MASSIVE and literally falling off my body. Christine pinned it smaller and had me return the day before the Emmys. I tried it on again and it was STILL too big, even with the corset tightened completely. I specifically asked Christine to replace a zipper I didn't trust. She assured me it was fine. It wasn't. It slid down all night, and my husband eventually had to knot the corset string around it just to keep my dress closed. I also repeatedly asked for a hook and eye. It still hadn't been added at my second fitting, and when Christine finally added one, it snapped in half at the Emmys. The hardware felt incredibly cheap. The dress was also still too long despite my asking for it to be shortened. So after paying $400 for "professional alterations," I spent the Emmy Awards pulling my dress up because it was too large, picking it up off the floor because it was too long, and having my husband rig the zipper because it wouldn't stay up. I should have been enjoying and celebrating one of the biggest nights of my career. Instead, I spent the entire night stressed, uncomfortable, embarrassed, and worrying about whether my dress was going to stay on my body. Never again.

For some context, my dress was bought as is from a sample sale. As someone who is is not very tall in height, the dress visibly needed hemming. The wonderful team of Luxury Alterations successfully and beautifully hemmed my dress to my liking without losing its integrity. Even with the inches taken off from the front of my dress, they were still able to allow a beautiful train in the back which looked beautiful as shown in the photos. Additionally, I also wanted to be able to move around during my wedding dance and reception. Marine suggested a 5 point bustle that allowed me to move around and dance comfortably throughout the night. And she did it beautifully without making my dress look frumpy. It was like wearing two dresses for the price of one. As a budget bride, I was worried about cost as many times the price of alterations is as much, if not more, than the price of the gown. Fortunately, I was quoted a very fair price that, to my delight, was less than the cost of my discounted dress. He is respectful, gracious, and puts the exact same care into doing alterations on an inexpensive casual summer skirt as a very expensive designer suit. The tidy, charming shop on Ventura Blvd has a lovely old-world tailoring feel to it, but the prices are very reasonable, and the turn around time has been fantastic. I have been absolutely thrilled to find Neewin tailoring and would give it ten stars if I could.

At this point, the communication, demeanor, and the price was not right for us. So we asked her to take the pins out and that we're going to get the shirts tailored elsewhere. "I say the price before the pins," (she didn't) "so that people know BEFORE. And this is the old price, not even the new price. This is the old price and I said it before so to avoid this". Yikes.

This woman just quoted me $380 to alter the length and circumference of the sleeves and to take in…read morethe waist of a leather jacket. So let's break that down. With my job I work in the entertainment industry and I have been doing it for a number of years and get paid about $500 a day for a 12 hour day. 500÷12 is 41.67 (rounded up) an hour. So for me to get paid $380 I would need to work 9 hours on the jacket. I can almost guarantee she is not working 9 hours to alter sleeves and to take in the waist of a leather jacket. So basically she quoting me a price per hour that lawyers and some doctors don't make. One could argue cost of materials but thread and maybe a zipper stop doesn't justify the price she quoted me. Update: she says I asked her over the phone for a quote and I didn't ask her over the phone for a quote. I asked her on this platform with pictures. And she quoted me a price that is worth more than the garment not to mention well over two times what I and many lawyers make an hour. I was going to go over the hill to your shop but I'm now glad I didn't because it would've been a waste of a trip. My review stands.
