My wife and I visited Glenwood's this past Saturday evening for a birthday celebration for her. Based on past visits there, we expected another wonderful experience. Not so. Being generous, I would describe the evening as disappointing. We made an 8:00 pm reservation several days in advance. We were escorted past the welcoming, dimly-lit dining room we had enjoyed in the past to what I assume is called a 'patio area'. It was brightly lit, nowhere near the atmosphere we had come to expect. There were a total of ten tables. One was occupied by another couple, and one by a family of six. The others were empty. After what I considered to be a longer than expected wait, our server came over and asked if we had any questions. We did not, and placed our order. She was rather scarce after that. While we were waiting for our food, another associate came in and started stacking up the chairs from the empty tables. !!! Remember, it was only a few minutes after 8:00 so it wasn't like they were eager to close. Now, in addition to feeling like we were seated at the kids table at Thanksgiving, it seemed like we were being given the bum's rush. I managed to get the servers attention and asked her to please make him stop. He did, but was soon followed by another employee placing candles, utensils, etc. on the empty tables. Why would you do that after removing the chairs? The food arrived shortly after that debacle, and was (as always) excellent - the only upside part of the evening. All in all a very disappointing evening and one that convinced us this will be our last visit to Glenwood's. There are far too many other choices in the area to put up with that. read more

I've been here before when it was Stanfords and had no complaints. Visited recently and sat outside on a nice evening. I'm so mad I didn't get a chance to take a pic of my food. But, I had salmon, mashed potatoes, spinach and mac & cheese... might be one of the best meals I had in long time!!! For drinks I did 2 old fashioned, they were strong how I like it. Server was great! He made a mistake on our bill but we didn't hold that against him because everyone makes mistakes, it's all in how you acknowledge the mistake and correct it. read more

Went here for dinner with a large group consisting of half adults and half male teenagers. There was plenty of room for us in the back room with at least five tables reserved for us. I was so impressed with the way they handled our large party. There were plenty of servers and runners. Things could not have gone more smoothly. Stanford is a great place for a large group because the menu has something for everyone. The young men and adults had many choices. The rest of my table shared a bunch of starters including chicken tenders and crab cakes and everything was great. I tasted the crab cakes and they were excellent, with tons of crab. I started with a salad, which was perfect but huge. Afterwards, I did not have much for my Trout, which was wonderful as well. Everyone in our party was pleased with their food. My son's salmon was a little over cooked, but otherwise tasty. My husband and others at our table swooned at the ribs. This place was better than it had any right to be. First, the decor is really lovely inside. It has a kind of woodsy homey feeling from the outside, but inside it was candlelight, fireplace, and dark wood. Very dark in general, actually, but in a good way... in a cozy way. Second, the menu on the outside looks very uninspiring. And I don't mean 'bad,' I just mean it looks like every other menu you've seen. Nothing too extra, nothing too basic. Just... mid. Third, don't let that fool you! What they do, they do VERY well! I was very surprised by the effort and energy put into each dish. Maybe it wasn't earth-shattering in innovation, but what that lacked, they more than made up for in effort and attention to detail! I ended up ordering their daily soup and the steak salad (not my usual, but it's what I was feeling). First, the soup. It was red beans & rice, which I normally don't classify as 'soup,' but I guess it really is a kind of stew, especially how you prepare it. This one... fantastic. Very thick, but still soupy, with chunks of smoked meat, perfectly cooked beans, and other standards. It was so so soothing and cozy. The salad was no less fulfilling. It had perfectly cooked steak slices, a nice dressing, fresh veggies, and just a wonderful composition overall. For a supposedly simple meal of soup-and-salad, this more than surprised me with both complexity and comfort. We had a large party (around 10) there for a birthday celebration, so we brought in dessert. I think they were okay with that? They helped with providing plates and silverware and such, so I think it was okay. But, the point is, with a large party, they still took great care of us, regarding overall service, refills, orders, special dietary issues, and so on. So, yeah, I would say definitely a surprise and well worth the trip! It's very tucked away behind a hotel and off the main road, but it's definitely worth seeking out if you're looking for a good dining spot in Columbia. My only negative is why do they like it so dark, I am sure they can maintain the ambience in the evening and not have it so dark. Hopefully that's in the plan with the name change. I cannot believe I haven't been to Standford Grill until now -- an absolute gem in Columbia! Run, don't walk, if you haven't been. We went for an early dinner around 4:30pm on a Sunday and the place was pretty packed, so I suggest making a reservation on OpenTable. Loved the ambiance - it's pretty fancy but not overly fancy. We loved our server, loved how FAST the service was (food came out quickly, check was taken care of fast). I got a prime rib, my husband ordered the burger and both tasted amazing. Prime rib was one of the best I ever had. Burger patty super juicy, tasty, and the buns perfectly cooked. Prices are more than reasonable. 16 oz of prime rib is only ~$40 and burger $20, the portions are very generous. We loved the food so much that we ended up taking a crab cake sandwich home to share with a family member (and she loved it)! Overall, I cannot stop raving about how delicious the food is, for such a great price at a restaurant with awesome ambiance and service (good enough for a special occasion). Great intimate place! Super versatile, could be perfect for a business lunch, dinner date or a get together with friends. The portions are more than generous and the food is really good! We've been coming to Stanford Grill (now Glenwood's) for nearly 20 years and were concerned with what the change in name might mean. I have been to Stanford numerous times and the experience has always been positive. Their wait staff are amazing! The servers are personable and happy to answer any questions you have about the menu. I am pescatarian and find there is more than enough vegetarian and pescatarian options to choose from. Due to COVID, their menu is smaller and they don't have a pianist perform as often but it is still an excellent place to visit. Tip: If you order the bread pudding I recommend asking your waiter/ waitress for an extra cup of sauce to go. The sauce is amazing and it tastes even better heated up the next day! read more

It's crazy I haven't updated Stanford Grill's review in all these years since I must have come back here dozens of times since the first review and enjoyed every one of them. This location has always been nice and clean and cozy during my visits and my food always comes out hot and prepared as described by the very friendly and attentive team at Stanford Grill. They used to do a delicious lobster Thermidor and butternut squash spaghetti I haven't seen on the menu in a while but I still love the chicken pot pie, rattlesnake pasta, & while I'm not inclined to order grilled salmon or rotisserie chicken out at restaurants often, theirs are always well executed. The star of the show here is the signature bread pudding dessert. I can't think of a bread pudding i've enjoyed more than theirs and with the grey goose peartini cocktail to accompany dessert, makes the perfect nightcap. read more

We went here to get prime rib on a Sunday so we went early . We like our meat rare but one of the dishes was more to the medium rare. The meat was delicious as well as some of the best mashed potatoes ever. Variety for specialty cocktails was good. And for dessert they had our favorites: key lime pie and bread pudding. Parking is always tough and you know it's good when you have to circle the lot for 5 mins to find a spot. I always get their rattlesnake pasta, chicken pot pie or signature Stanford cheeseburger. The pot pie is a must order. They always have some ready as it's one of the most popular menu items. Flavors and service is always consistent. Amazing quality and the freshest ingredients. Our first post-pandemic visit to Stanford Grill was fine, but less memorable in certain correctable ways. We enjoyed the food - portions are appropriately sized to sate most any appetite without leftovers. Eveything was well-prepared too. The few things that nagged at us and cost stars in my rating were the cramped coziness of the booths. Its as if the floor plan was redesigned to wedge more seats in, at the expense of comfort for all. Think airplanes. I mean its not that bad but we felt squished, especially with winter coats to put someplace too. Secondly, the noise level made it necessary to use elevated voices merely to speak with tablemates. It's quite the din there when the place is full. Third, there seemed to be upcharges for various substitutions, not fully disclosed in advance. How else did two $25 entrees and two cocktails get all the way to $114? I was not in a position socially to review the itemized charges, but nothing other than substitution up-charges explains it. Even with CurbSide service in full effect, Eric served us up with parking lot righteousness. Beforehand, I was in Baltimore when I called to place our order & got a helpful employee sounding like she was in good spirits. She told me she would time placing the order so it would be ready upon arrival. As I was rolling up to the front door, Eric came out full of zest welcoming us. He said, "Hi, welcome to Stanford Grill, no need to get out of your car, I got you taken care of"...why thank you Eric. He confirmed the name on the order & asked if we need anything else before going back inside the restaurant. He was back in a few minutes paper bag & all. Each of the items was secured with Saran Wrap with the necessary utensils. Minor - yet, I prefer not having to request plasticware, especially for Carry Out. Our order consisted of light bites due to a larger dinner later on, but that Spicy Hummus is one of the better, creative concoctions I've tried. The pepper added Cornbread was complimented & consumed pretty quickly. It makes me a happy Foodie & proud Yelper when I see/hear engaging employees in the restaurant industry keeping their heads held high & still dishing out positive customer service. Especially during these very unprecedented times in their careers. Although we were not inside sitting down at a table experiencing the full dining effect, for me great customer service is what it is. We went there for my birthday. I told our server that I will probably have 2 cocktails and that I prefer to finish them before the food comes out. I could not have be clearer. In fact, as we were speaking my first cocktail arrived. I drink Manhattans and theirs is excellent. As I was sipping my drink, I reiterated that I'd like to have my cocktails finished BEFORE my food arrives. She insisted that even if she puts in our order it won't come out until my 2nd drink was done. We did however ask that the appetizer be delivered now. So far so good. I finished the first drink (and the Fiesta Egg-rolls appetizer which were also excellent) and ordered cocktail #2. Just as the 2nd Manhattan arrived, so did the food. Exactly what I did not want to happen. To make matters worse my prime rib entree was actually cold to the touch. The bus boy asked if i wanted to send the entree back and i said "yes" and asked that they please heat the prime rib this time. Then a manager appeared and told me that when you order prime rib "medium" it's served at "room temperature." That is nonsense. Medium primer rib should be between 135 and 140 degrees F. (that would be a very hot room if it were true). So he took the meat back to the kitchen. It returned a few minutes later (I still had not finished my 2nd cocktail) but this time the meat was charred black. I don't think that what I asked for was so difficult. Why they couldn't get this right is amazing to me. It was a totally ruined meal - and for a birthday nonetheless. And of course not even a hint of anything to make amends. Never again. read more

I had the chicken pot pie after reading others' yelp review! It didn't disappoint. It was absolutely amazing with all fresh ingredients piping hot and very delicious flaky crust. The vegetables were cooked perfectly inside as well. The chicken was all white meat, an extremely tender.! I said at the bar, and it was very lively and friendly. The waiters were attentive and actually cared about their customers and it showed. ! There was a live jazz combo group, and they were phenomenal. 5/5 - food 2/5 - service It has been years since I've been to Stanford Grill but recall it being a positive experience. Brought an out-of-town friend here. We arrived around 6pm on a Tuesday and it was super full! Always excited to see busy restaurants. We went in and pretty sure the hostess wanted to be anywhere but but there. She told us 40 minutes but we could sit at the bar immediately. So we took a high top that had some water cup condensation on the table still (didn't bother up - easily cleaned). We sat about 10 minutes before the server in the area made eye contact with us and told us that we needed to be seated by the hostess at the table. So went back to the unfriendly hostess who said the table needed to be cleaned while I asked if she could arrange that - seemed quite an ask, but she agreed. The same server came over 5 minutes later with menus and cleaned the water on the table. Service was incredibly slow/inattentive throughout the meal - server completely forgot the wine I ordered (missed opportunity, as I would've ordered 2-3 glasses) and came back twice to ask my friend what drink he ordered (unsweet iced tea). I had to repeatedly ask for my water cup to be filled. The food was all amazing and good portions - we got the rattlesnake pasta with chicken, filet, bacon mac n cheese, asparagus sides, key lime pie, and bread pudding. The pasta calls it a cajun alfredo sauce but there was only a hint of spice, as someone who doesn't like spice, I felt it was appropriate and delicious. The desserts are HUGE - be sure to have 3+ people if you expect to finish them at the table, we had a couple bites and took the rest home. With the food being so good, I would be willing to try them again but perhaps after more things open and hopefully their service becomes more attentive to match the prices they charge. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a few years now, and it was worth the wait. It was a cold Wednesday afternoon when I opened the door to the restaurant and was greeted by the amazing aroma of a wood fire. The restaurant was warm and inviting, and modestly decorated with Christmas cheer. From the entrance I noticed the all dark wood and earth tones; there was table seating to the right, and the bar lined with natural candles to the left. To the rear you could see the bright clean open kitchen, and wood fire rotisserie chickens basking in that tantalizing aroma.The restaurant has a very intimate and elegant feel to it. We sat at the bar where we were greeted by an enthusiastic bartender who provided us with our menus and water. They had a wine and cocktails menu, but you have to ask for the limited, but decent beer selection. He explained the specials of the day and took our order when we were ready. Service was very good throughout. My husband and I shared the soup of the day, which was a clam bisque seasoned with bacon, little pieces of chopped claims, and oyster crackers on top. I don't like oysters or clams, but the soup was really, really good. It was warm and creamy smooth with a deliciously satisfying flavor. For an entrée, I had the fish of the day which was a deboned grilled brazino (European Sea Bass), with rice pilaf and broccolini. The chicken had a clean grilled flavor, cooked perfectly. The broccolini was buttered and salted; a little heavy on the salt, but good non-the-less. The saltiness made the crisp cold beer taste all that much better. The rice was fluffy and tender, and more flavorful than an ordinary steamed rice, which I liked. My husband ordered the rotisserie chicken salad that came with the dressing and a BBQ sauce on the side. The salad was crisp and fresh and the chicken was moist and tender, but surprisingly had no flavor. Maybe that's what the BBQ sauce was for. The BBQ sauce had a good flavor, but we were a little disappointed in the lack of the chicken's flavor after savoring the smell of the wood that the chicken was basking in. Overall the salad was good though. According to the menu, there is nightly Jazz. This is a great restaurant for a date night and I look forward to returning. read more

You are going to eat well at Stanford Grill! As soon as I walked in, it gave me the Copper Canyon Grill vibe! I drove two hours from Virginia , in traffic, to have dinner with a friend who was in town. The restaurant was packed! My friend had a reservation so we were seated pretty quickly. The hosts were very friendly. Our male server, Jaime, was an awesome server with a pleasant demeanor . He knew the menu well. He let me try some of the Malbec wine before I ordered. I ordered a glass of the Alamos Malbec. This was very good! For my starter, I had the hummus. Which was really tasty. Although, the naan was a little salty for my liking. I informed Jaime of my dairy allergies and he walked me through the menu of items that could work for me. I also ordered the house salad and we did the champagne vinaigrette dressing. This salad was delicious and very fresh! For dinner, I had their speciality -- Wood-Fire Rotisserie Chicken. I switched out the mash potatoes for sautéed spinach. Jaime asked me if I wanted dark meat or white meat, which I found to be very impressive! I ordered White Meat. This was seasoned very well! For my dessert, I had the walnut apple cobbler pie. This was very tasty. Kudos to the manager, Ally? Who came over to greet us and check on our food selections. Customer service is top-notch!
