I'm a Chili Verde lover and Gloria's Kitchen just gave me THE best Chili Verde I've ever tasted! The depth and richness of the sauce alone was so flavorful and comforting to my mouth and heart. The meat melted in my mouth, soft and flaky. I've driven past Gloria' s on several occasions. I happened to do a notary job next door yesterday and told my husband I wanted to check it out. Pros, Cons, then Summary. Went here with the family a few days ago. PROs--The food is great, and the items are cheaper than their counterparts. The place is clean and the staff is nice. There usually isn't a large wait time (or any wait time for that matter.) The place has been here for years, and I used to come here as a high school student. We liked all aspects of the restaurant. I don't need fancy TVs, tablets, or any other technology. Just give me good food and service. CONs--Parking lot is small. I'd like it if it was open a little later, as it closes @8pm. Other than that, I don't have any real issues. Would l go back? Yes. Sorry I can't understand what all of the positive reviews are about?!! The food is just not good, the salsa and chips should have been an indicator as to how bad the food was. Don't get me wrong its not disgusting food its just americanized Mexican food so if that's what you are looking for then you'll be fine. As for me, I crossed of another disappointing Mexican restaurant off my list. What was it that I didn't like? Beans refried with oil and waay to salty, Rice was ok but average, chilaquiles, stale chips with cold salsa topped with unmelted, cold, processed imitation cheese. I found parking in back, liked the idea of outdoor tables, but alas, no salsa bar. The interior is very old time diner/cafeteria style with a counter and zero ambiance/decor, but I am here for food, so I ordered at the counter and was pleased to be given the choice of hot or mild sauce, and no charge for extra hot sauce. I took the advice of a Yelp friend and tried the chile relleno burrito. Good beans, rice, and chile relleno, soft flour tortilla, and ample portion size. You can add extra cheese for 50 cents, and it definitely was worth it-a gooey flavorful cheese. I chickened out of sitting on the patio due to the cool wind whipping around Community Hospital and got it to go, thus missing out on trying their chips and salsa. Next time. Menu is fairly extensive with breakfast choices as well since it is open from 8 until 8, obviously catering to surrounding hospitals and Doctors' offices. There were a steady stream of hospital uniform attired people picking up to-go orders and service was pleasant and efficient. Hubby got Mexican style eggs. Says they are full of tastes! I got Chile Verde it came with eggs too. Both came with two sides (beans, rice or potatoes) and tortillas. The beans are good when mixed with the food. Otherwise I thought they were a little plain but normal for most Mexican food places. Potatoes were very yummy! Their homemade salsa is VERY yummy too! I really should've known something was up when this place is nearly empty @ 0900 on a beautiful Saturday morning. It's practically one of Newton's Laws: if a joint serves good breakfast, there will be a line on the weekend. There was almost no one here. I got the steak and 2 eggs breakfast "special". If you told me they'd swapped the steak part out for warmed-up beef jerky... yep, that checks. The small chips of meat were so dry and hard, I had to eat it in the shower. Even the rice and beans ... how does a Mexican restaurant not get rice and beans right? In that vein, how are so many people giving this place 5 stars???? This is the sort of "Mexican food" you'd expect at a truck stop in Kansas -- NOT a restaurant in Southern California! Add on top of all that... 1) the place seemed unclean 2) the women's bathroom is clearly an afterthought, and 3) this small-portion nightmare actually cost $15 ... and I will HAPPILY go to Taco Bell for breakfast before I come back here. I normally don't review but the customer service here was awful that I just had to review. Our server was a lady with black glasses. She was so rude from the start. When we asked for our drink order she looked irritated and as if she didn't want to serve us. We got our food and we had to keep asking for the drinks we ordered in the beginning. Towards the end, she was very grumpy and rude and raised her voice at us when we were trying to pay separate when we initially told her when we first ordered. Food quality was okay. I had a really bad experience here, which is odd because everyone recommends this place. But to be fair my experience makes sense because I hardly every see people here. I went in around 10 am and I ordered a breakfast plate with county/diced potatoes, 2 bacon 2 eggs and sourdough toast and a coffee. First off it took way too long to cook considering I was one of 3 people in there. My server hardly paid any attention to me or checked on me , again which is odd because there were barely any costumers. The bacon was over cooked and hard to eat, yes bacon hard to eat... The eggs were ok. The diced potatoes were undercooked and unseasoned. They forgot my toast, then when I asked about it they brought me burnt toast. Like seriously? Honestly the CMH kitchen cooks better food and has better service. Yes I said it. Hospital food is better then Gloria's kitchen. Price of food was decent. We came here to get a cup of coffee while waiting for our daughter to be done with her university admission interview with one of the doctors at Community Hospital. We sat at the counter and the staff was super courteous and attentive, even after we had told them we just wanted coffee. They kept refilling our coffee and water over and over again. Mind you, the place was pretty busy, with only 3 empty tables ... and this place isn't small. The staff here is so personable. The manager made comments with hubby every time he walked by our seats about the Carolina-Seattle game that was on tv, while bustling with orders and helping his staff. I broke down and ordered their whole wheat pancakes. They were better other places'! Other folks' orders that passed by our seats from the kitchen looked pretty good as well. Go get a burrito here. Their green sauce is amazing. I usually grab a chili relleno burrito. The flavor is so good and solid. Today I got a breakfast burrito. It was HUGE and possibly the best burrito I've had anytime anywhere. Those of you who don't know this joint should definitely get a burrito here. They are a big diner style restaurant too. Awesome people who own and run it. I'm sure that they get good return customers but I assure you this place deserves even more community business and support. I also love buying a huge container of their green sauce and dumping it all over egg omelettes with cheeses or meats and tomatoes at home. Seriously Glorias is a gem. Been staying at motel CMH for the birth of my daughter and am getting a chance to try these great places for lunch and dinners. I called in and placed an order. The gentleman on the phone didn't seem to caring for a to go order. I order I two carne asada tacos that were great. I also order a burrito but I kinda created it my own way and messed it up (so my fault). But it was still good food. Would love to try this again with out taking it to go. Been going to Gloria's for 16 years. I get an Asada burrito with beans, cheese, sour cream, onions, and cilantro. I also get it wet with sauce and cheese. Oooooh man this is one bomb burrito!! Everything about it especially the sauce on top is amazing! The chips and green salsa are so good. Other yelpers have mentioned stale chips but every time I go my chips are fresh and great! There are no good words to describe this place. Rude people, rude owner, bad staff, food is nothing special, parking cramped, not very clean. You are better off making your own Mexican food at home, and you are sure to be open later than 2 or 3pm. Poor hours. If you want a breakfast place, I suggest you try Allison's Country Cafe instead. Had the Burrito Supreme with Chicken, onions n cilantro, n hot sauce. Chicken was tender and shredded. Hot sauce was really good, next time I am going to ask for 2 cuz they only give you a tiny thing of it to go. I have had better mexican food, but also a lot worse. I live really close to this restaurant and never thought to go in until recently. I was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't look like much from the outside and never looked very busy so I figured it wasn't that great. The food is REALLY good, and consistent (I have eaten here at least once a week since). I have had breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have Mexican and American food -- I have tried both. The service is the best service I have had at any restaurant. The Skinny: Convenient for walking to if you work in the area and need a Mexican food fix, and decently speedy service, but the food is just so-so. Environment: The area is located on the street of Loma Vista so it would be hard to find parking if you want to do street parking. However, there is a small lot in the back. If you work around the area, it'd be more advisable to walk there instead. As for the inside, it actually looks like a diner to my surprise. It doesn't look like a fancy diner or anything, more like a family owned. The tables are older so they may have stains that can't be rid of, but otherwise it is just another place to dine in. Service: I went here during a lunch break and the service was pretty fast when we told them we had to get back to work at a certain time. They were able to accommodate with 10 minutes to spare. The waiter was nice and helpful, but at the same time it seemed like a dead hour because it wasn't busy, so they had more time to tend to us. Food: The food here was okay. Typical salsa and chips were brought to us as appetizers, and the chips were slightly stale but not too bad. Liked the salsa. I ordered a shrimp taco and a fish taco, which I liked them both because they were spicier than normal, but it wasn't anything stellar. You could get the same order elsewhere but have it taste more... juicy. It was kind of dry here. Overall: 3/5 If you work or are around the area and you want a cheap and quick fix for Mexican food, but you don't want to be going to a chain restaurant, check this kitchen out. Chile relleno didn't thrill me but their chips and salsa is very tasty. Two kinds: green and red. Ask for the red. They are mild and hot but not offensively so. Both flavorful to my tastes Vegetarian burrito with potatoes was excellent. Very large but only 5.95. Flavor was terrific, especially with the hot sauce they serve. Will be returning for the burrito for sure Atmosphere is meh, unless you like truck stop diner motif. But place was very clean and doesn't smell old. But looks like original decor from the 50-60s. This restaurant has been my favorite place for the breakfast dish of Chile Verde and eggs for a number of years. It's a bit out of the way, but the way the chili verde pork is spiced is absolutely perfect and pairs so well with their style of rice and beans. My wife loves their version of menudo and usually gets it heavy on the hominy. The staff is always Pleasant, friendly and efficient, especially Maria, and they remember their regulars and treat you like family. Come on in and sit a spell. You will not regret it. read more

I was craving Mexican tonight, so my fiance scouted this place out (we just moved up from LA not too long ago). I got a carne asada taco and a cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The food here is definitely not AS awesome as we're used to from our favorite places in LA, but it's enjoyable! I certainly ate my whole meal. Oh, and we got guacamole with our chips and the guac and salsa were really good. The server was great, the vibe is cool. Super affordable. We'll be back. read more
