One of the fancier dinners we treated ourselves to on our recent trip and it was reasonably good. The portions are small and some dishes did not quite live up to our expectations. The spring pasta (creste de Gallo) with snap peas was delicious, al dente, and had the beautiful shape of a octopus tentacle (or I guess rooster crown). Eggplant carbonara was OK. Meatballs alla nonna were great and hearty. The wild mushroom side was yummy but very pickled. As much as we love acid- we wish we could have tasted more of the mushroom itself. read more

Forrest was his name and he immediately made me feel like an outcast who didn't deserve to be at the restaurant. After a ten minute conversation with him I got up and walked out. If the expectation is to be a billionaire when I walk in to your restaurant maybe you should move towards the village at the 4 Seasons. We found this place while researching our trip to see the Grand Tetons and we were not disappointed. Everything was excellent - from our cocktails and wine, to appetizers, to our main meal. The service was great and our server (Duck) was great, especially with our three-month old daughter at the table. We started with cocktails - the Negroni Bianco and the Long Rider. My wife loves a Negroni and she raved about this one. The Long Rider was really interesting, with sake and green chartreuse really standing out to me. Next, we ordered the bresaola (cured Italian beef with part and horseradish), yellowtail crudo, and tuscan white bean dip. The beef was awesome, the crudo was super fresh, and the bread + white bean combo was delicious. Lastly, we ordered the Rye cavatelli (elk bolognese) and the local mushrooms (cooked in brown butter and sherry vinegar) - these were our favorites. The flavor is impossible to describe, but we wanted more! Really loved this meal. I finished the evening with another cocktail - the Rum and Hyde. It was incredible. The "New Normal", $14, was "great" according to one in our group. Mint Infused Bourbon, Orange cordial and angostura make up this creative mix. Several in our group ordered "Beetlejuice". This winner of a cocktail was a creative mix of Guajillo Infused Reposado Tequila, Ancho Reyes, Beets, Mint and lime. For starters our group ordered several appetizers. A full bowl of Olives - kalamata, castelvetrano, with orange rind, garlic and chili flakes, was devoured! The 3 homemade meatballs, plated with pomodoro, mozzarella and Parmesan, were delicious! Everyone enjoyed the Grilled Artichoke. This veggie had a slight Smokey flavor and was served with homemade Green Goddess dressing and chili salt. Our entrees were perfection as well. Wanting a local/regional twist on a Bolognese, I ordered the Mezze Maniche Rigate($24) - baked elk Bolognese with three cheeses. Fantastic! Another equally delicious entree was the Ricotta Cavatelli ($23) with spicy sausage, brown butter and fried sage. Truly Yummy! My boys (young men actually) ordered and shared the Bistecca Fiorentina (market price) which was a 40 Oz. Wagyu Porterhouse with herb rub and butter. Melt in your mouth good! Lastly, one in group ordered the rabbit. The Confit Rabbit was braised and served in a broth with capers, lemon and shallots. A light, yet filling, entree. I ordered the Zabuton wagyu. I'd never had it before and the zabuton is supposed to be richly marbled and tender. It was awful. Tough. Barely edible. A meal to remember! Our server, Daniel, fit the vibe. He was kind, attentive, just exceptional. He recommended a delicious bottle of wine (Tricerchi brunello) to pair with our pasta. The family style approach worked well - we ordered the crostini app, two salads, and all five pastas for the table. The coolest part? Everyone had different favorites and there wasn't an average dish on the table. Highlights for me were the creste di gallo and rye cavatelli (elk bolognese). We were going to eat here but decided against it after looking at the menu. I only eat seafood and most of their dishes were meat based. The menu is also pretty small and expensive! We decided just to grab a drink at the bar. This is definitely one of those trendy-style cocktail bars so don't expect a cheap cocktail. I opted for the Negroni on tap and I loved it! We were BEYOND disappointed. We flew in over the weekend to celebrate our son's birthday with him. Because our Italian food standards are very high, we had been disappointed several times in visiting "Eye-tal-yun" restaurants during our lifetimes in the Jackson area. However, an acquaintance promised that we'd be impressed. They couldn't be more wrong. First, it was too dark to read the menu. Go to actual Italian restaurants, they're not dark. They're lively. We love life. After the bone marrow appetizer, which was fairly authentic, the main courses were barely edible. The Vodka sauce served to my sister seemed to be as salty as a brining solution. My son said the elk bolognese was inedible. He said that the one i treated him to apres ski last February at the brewpub blew this one away! I had to agree. My entree was the only edible and well-prepared of the three. As to deserts, the tiramisu was ok but nothing special and the gelato wasn't very good at all. This was at best an overpriced scam! The restaurant is warm and cozy on the inside, with the bar area injecting some energy / life into the space. Full menu at the bar. The bartender / server could not have been more friendly and helpful with navigating menu choices. We ordered the giardiniera, calamari, baked elk bolognese and tiramisu. Excellent service and ambience. Nice background music at the perfect volume. Place has an inviting atmosphere with nice decor. We ordered two cocktails that were masterfully crafted for us. The menu is full of interesting dishes. The bison teres major was great and so was the trout and the pasta we shared (cassarecci). This place is amazing. We went to dinner here twice. The first night we ordered pasta. We tried all their pastas over the two occasions with the exception of their pasta with seafood. We would recommend ALL of them. The portions look small but the pasta is made in house and is more dense than typical noodles. Our last night we decided to splurge and order the wagyu. It was cooked perfectly and presentation was impressive. All the red wines are on the dry side FYI. We regret that we didn't take pictures but we both agreed this was the best pasta we have had in the US outside of Italy. Second time here in about 3 years...we're not local. Next time we're in Jackson, we'll be back. Duck and Yulian were the perfect hosts. Nice service but not interrupting nor hovering. We really enjoyed our meal and our conversation. I had a rum Old Fashioned (first time) which was a well-made cocktail. Next time I'll try one of their signature cocktails. Our group had the meatball appetizer and the spaghetti. Both were delicious and recommended by locals. The spaghetti had a poached egg on top which was interesting but good. Fifth stop on our southwest adventure is Jackson Hole, WY. This is one of the better choices for fine dining with reasonable prices in Jackson Hole. We were staying at the Anvil and decided to give it a try. This place is crazy busy so make reservations in advance. Here is how it scored: Classic Caesar salad $13: this was great with fresh hearts of romain and a light dressing. It was a little pricey for the size of the portion but one of the best Caesars I have eaten in awhile. 4/5 Linguini Vongole $23: this was a solid dish and very enjoyable. I thought they could have had a little more heat as the "hot sausage" was barely noticeable. The main problem was the pasta, which was really undercooked, not even close to al dente. 3.5/5 Baked Rigate with Elk Bolognese and 3 cheeses $24: I had high expectations and unfortunately left disappointed with this dish. The ricotta overpowered the elk and made it taste like lasagna. The pasta was terribly overcooked, mushy and falling apart. 3/5 This place has potential but has execution issues with cooking pasta. The taste profiles are good for a pasta dish in the $20-30 range the pasta should be cooked perfectly and it wasn't even close. All that said, I am going to give it another try. Best food we had in Jackson during our two week trip. Service was on point and we were given great recommendations. We started with the Crostini. Texture/balance of flavors was excellent. Truffle honey was perfect with just the right amount of truffle. The burrata salad was bright, light, creamy, everything you want out of that. Could have used a touch more acid(the best bites were with the pickled onion). Next we tried the Yellowtail Crudo. This bite was balanced so well with the Saffron and Chile oil. This was the type of eatery where I must've thanked Yelp out loud multiple times with each bite for leading us here. Where to begin? Service - spectacular. Plump and juicy. Fresh. I had to be restrained from drinking all of the sauce. We had mussels 3 days earlier at the Mural Room at Jackson Lake Lodge and they were putrid. We literally said, "We shouldn't have ordered mussels in Wyoming." But Ray gave a confident endorsement when taking our orders and they were some of the best mussels we have ever had. Insalata Cold roasted asparagus and chickpea salad - delicious. Smoky. Excellent textures and subtle dressing. Arugula salad - fresh and balanced. Handmade Pasta So so good. The spaghetti with marinara was sweet and delicate. Perfect texture. We added meatballs, which were plump and tasty. This was so good we ordered it both meals. Secondi Whole grilled trout - amazed. They use a massive wood burning broiler to get a smokiness and texture that is unparalleled. Deliciously garnished with heirloom tomato and kale. Stuffed with herbs and de-boned. Be careful though, some bones do linger. Truffle honey chicken - half chicken on the wood burning broiler. Tender, juicy and smoky. The fingerling potatoes were a little boring but the chicken was perfect. Would highly recommend. Dessert Get the pie!! We were so set on the tiramisu but Ray convinced us to try to lemon lavender and blackberry pie. It was so good! Like a lemon chiffon mated with Beard's Papa. Bursting with bright springtime flavors with a flaky, soft crust. Tiramisu - they ran out of pie by the second visit. Don't let this happen to you! The Tiramisu is delicious though. Very safe bet.
