I've been here twice. Both times very disappointed. The first time I had a gel mani. The lady doing my nails seemed to be in a real hurry as she didn't care too much to my nails properly, but rather just get it over with. Zero attention to detail. While I definitely appreciate someone who doesn't take a lifetime to do the job, I'd like to get a good result as I'm paying for the service!! She filled my nails almost halfway, leaving them look like they had been done 2 weeks ago instead of a fresh mani. Very unhappy. The second time i went in for a gel mani and pedi. You should be prepared to choose from a VERY limited selection of colors. When you first go in you'd think they have a huge selection looking at all the nail polishes on the shelves, but NO. Those are the same old colors and totally non-updated with the latest color trends. I looked for. soft pink, but all they had was either a bright, bright pink, OR a super dull old pinkish kind of color. I spent more than 15 mins trying to find a color i liked... Of course they had run out of the ones i liked somehoe in the color swatch chart. The super rude lady assigned to do my nails even told me i didn't know what i wanted!!! - EXCUSE ME??? First and foremost, how DARE you!! Second, if you have a super limited color collection like the one you actually have be sure I'll never come back!! Third, going in for a mani/pedi is supposed to be a super relaxing experience....and that's the only thing i didn't feel for a second with the woman treating my feet and hands like a piece of meat. Definitely not going back there ever. Just giving everyone a heads up on what they're stepping into. read more

Good service but I would expect staffs to be more talkative. Tried the lavender foot package and it was not much different from regular pedicure except that lavender soap and lotion were used. The lady cut too close on the cuticles and it bled. The interior was very bright with white furniture throughout. read more

Love!! I've been going to another nail salon for years and was hesitant to try this place out. Honestly I saw the all white decor from the outside and thought it would be overstimulating to be in there when I was trying to feel relaxed. I got a giftcard from a friend though and am so happy that I went! Their color selection is heavenly and their manicures last! I'm on day 9 with no signs of chipping...and I work 7 days a week so there was definitely opportunity! Online booking is awesome and all the staff there are so nice. read more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU LIKE YOUR ACRYLICS DONE CORRECTLY. I went and got a full set at Expert Nails in Revere but ended up getting a fill at Gloss out of convenience. The older woman with the glasses did mine and not only did she hurt me with the buffer but she did not listen to what I wanted. (She also managed to insult me, but that's a different story.) I left and had to go back the next day because she didn't cover some of the whole nails with polish and I was unhappy with the shapes and sizes. Another woman offered to fix it for me (for free) but didn't do much of a better job. I was out of patience so I didn't even bother to continue to tell her how I wanted my nails. The outcome: My nails are different lengths with some being rounded and some being square. Some of the nails are still bumpy and the nail polish has pretty much already worn off especially around the edges since she didn't coat them well. I'm still unhappy to look down at my nails but now know better to only go here for pedicures and the gel manicures... The only reason why they have any stars from me. [The place I went to get a fill after gloss took one look at my nails and told me the woman at gloss did such a bad job (all different sizes, etc. And acrylic was soft) that he had to put a completely new set on.] read more

I went here twice (to make sure I didn't just have a bad experience the first time), but my experience was not great either time. My gel polish chipped a day later, whereas it usually lasts at least a week. My cuticles were cut uncomfortably also, leaving the feeling of a paper cut. Loved loved loved this place. I had an eyebrow wax and a manicure with Linh and couldn't be happier. Not sure how the prices stack up against other local salons but they are definitely less than Boston ($12 for brow wax, $15 for manicure at Gloss vs. $18/$22 for similar services in Boston). One week later and my manicure has not chipped at all (and I got a regular manicure, not a gel). And while I was hesitant to try a new place for my brows (I'd had a bad experience with a burn at a salon in Boston), the wax was easily the best (and least painful!) I've ever had. The salon is clean and hip, and Linh was chatty and uber nice. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I've been to Gloss a couple of times, but my last visit was 2 years ago. I went again yesterday and wanted to write a review based on my experience. I made an appointment the night before using the online booking system and booked a gel manicure and a regular pedicure with Kristie because she was available at the time I could go in. I arrived and chose my colors for both my manicure and pedicure. I waited on the sofa and watched tv for a couple minutes as Kristie got set up to start my pedicure. Kristie then came over and offered me a bottle of water. My pedicure was a great experience. I liked that Kristie took her time and didn't rush through the pedicure. Then I moved on to my gel manicure. Kristie worked efficiently, and also double checked her work. She didn't say much during my visit, and I could tell it was because she was concentrating on making everything perfect. This is one of the best manicures I've ever gotten; my nails are all straight and even, and she thoroughly covered each nail with polish. The whole salon is clean and modern. While it is slightly more expensive than other salons in the area, I will gladly pay a little extra for good customer service and cleanliness. I'll be going back again soon, and while I'm sure there are many good technicians, I'll be booking with Kristie if I can! read more

Amazing. Went tonight for a gel mani and a pedi, and I will be back as often as my wallet can afford. The girls were was funny and hilarious and awesome to talk to during my pedi, and both my hands and feet look meticulous. It's also super clean-one time use files/buffers, and all other tools were taken out of autoclave packets. Love it! read more

My sister and I went for manicures and pedicures to try out this pretty little salon on a Sunday. It is very pretty inside (however, they could use some refreshing even though they've only been open since June!) however, it is strangely set up. There is no rhyme or reason to how the polishes are displayed. What's even stranger is that they don't have back ups of the colors! The bottles were all nearly 3/4 of the way gone and they were the only bottles they had in store. My sister chose a fun purple color by Zoya that the technician "couldn't use" because there wasn't enough. Really frustrating especially since she wasn't the nicest person on earth hence my not naming her to be fair... I must say though, Betty was awesome! So accommodating, bubbly and adorable! However, she left my cuticles on my hands looking nearly the same as when I came in. :( I had to get another manicure at my regular salon the very next day which is a little upsetting. I would definitely go again for a fun pedicure with a friend to try out the herbal pedicures they have but this would not be my regular salon. read more

Have been many, many places. Spa Gloss is the best. I only wish they had opened sooner. Went to Eva for a mani, also VyVy for a gel mani and a pedi, and then had my eyebrows waxed with Linh. My manicure was amazing and last well over a week- my gel mani looks amazing, and my pedicure was 100% the best I've had, in any establishment. I'm super happy about my pedicure that I had done at Gloss last week. It is still looking great and I had such a great experience. Gloss is the perfect cross between quick nail salon and high end spa - You get your nails done in a comfortable, relaxing, clean environment (similar to a high end spa), but the prices are on par with other local nail salons that aren't as nice. Love the color choices too -- I like to be adventurous with my polish and gloss has all of those color options for me (in addition to every red/pink you could ever want). read more

Not really sure why this salon has received such positive reviews. I had my first appointment here for a gel mani, herbal pedi, and Brazilian wax. The herbal pedi was nothing special and did not even include a longer massage and the nail technician did not paint all the way down to my cuticle. What really disgusted me is when I watched the woman next to me finish her pedicure and after leaving, the tub was filled up without being cleaned. The employee simply rinsed the tub and did not use any bleach or disinfectant. It got even worse when I went for my Brazilian. She only put a glove on one hand and then double dipped the stick in the same pot of wax used for all the other clients. I asked her why she didn't use a new stick and if the same pot of wax was using for each employee and she seemed completely confused why that would even be a problem. I work in healthcare and have cared for patients who have nearly died from a bikini wax infection. I immediately asked the wax to be stopped before speaking with the manager. read more

For me, spa experiences are equal parts service and atmosphere. Gloss excelled in both areas! I think the salon is really nice looking and modern, however the owner has quite an attitude, she offers "free chip repair" but dont try to go in for that, she will make you feel like a problem, ive never felt so ashamed going back for a chipped nail lol..$30 minimum for anyone walking in the door, she should be glad to fix for free..after reading the other reviews its clear that i wasnt the only one whos nails only lasted 2 days before chipping..the owner said that she has never seen anyones nails chip so quickly, making me feel like it was my fault?? went for an herbal pedicure today, and it was lovely! i was greeted as soon as i walked in the door, and guided to choose the herbal mix that i wanted, as well as a nail color. i also snagged a few magazines, and was then brought over for my appointment. the pedicure stations have bench seating - with great cushions and pillows - far more comfortable than they may look in the photos. the herbal treatment was great - a combination of herbs in the scrubs and essential oils in the the scrubs/moisturizer/foot bath. i felt completely pampered - lovely, long leg/foot massage, hot stone massage, super smooth skin from the oils and moisturizers, and a great polish job. i especially loved that julia, the woman doing my treatment, was quite gentle - i've been to some places where the exfoliation feels like a sandblaster. i could have taken a nap while she was working on my feet. read more

I gave this place a try over the weekend for a pedicure after reading some of the great reviews here. I have to agree that this place is fabulous. The décor is clean and elegant. The facility was clean and the staff was very professional and welcoming. They offered to hang my coat and offered me a beverage . The couches are very comfortable; no massage chairs here--refreshing change. I felt like I was hanging out on my couch at home! The pedicure was great with a really good foot massage. I went in with super high expectations because I had heard how awesome this place is. I was immediately pretty disappointed because when I arrived for my appointment I found out they do not offer shellac manicures. They have gel, and lots of gel colors to choose from (no more than any other nail salon), but I much prefer shellac over opi gel because opi always starts peeling up on the edges of my nails after 4 or 5 days and shellac does not. I was just shocked that a place as hip and trendy as this would not offer a product that you can get at 99% of nail salons. The place has a very nice aesthetic... all white, modern decor, backlighting which gives a cool effect, but if you look closely it's really not a lot cleaner than a lot of other salons. The fabric on the pedicure benches was stained in several places and worn down on the edges. I also didn't think that the pedicure bench was as comfortable or as relaxing as a regular massage pedicure chair. Yes, they offer you bottled water or diet coke which is nice, but that doesn't make or break it for me. I ended up just getting a regular pedicure and declined a manicure since they couldn't do shellac, and the quality of the pedicure was average. The girl who did my pedicure was very nice, as was the rest of the staff so I will say service is fine, but may not be back. read more

Love this place. Been twice and was very happy both times. My pedicure is still standing weeks later with not a chip in sight and it's regular polish (they offer gel pedicures which is funny to me). Day 14 of my gel/shellac manicure and it looks great. No chips, super shiny. Looks just as good as it did day 1. I got the pedicure with shellac manicure, which said would be an hour an a half. The nail tech only took about 70 minutes total. The cost was $60 but worth it. I am sure I will be back for another manicure in a week or two if I can make it. Upon moving to melrose 2 years ago I needed to find a good salon. I am extremely picky and particular about who and how my nails are done. After my first visit back in November 2013 I will never step foot in another salon other then gloss. I am very surprised to see a few poor reviews as my experiences 9/10 times have exceeded my expectations. I am always greeted by the staff and owner by first name with a huge smile. Which to me shows that they care to learn your name and always make you feel welcome. Not only do they offer the best services (which at first thought to be a little high) but I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for! They are always clean, classy and have the best colors. Especially for gel I find that no other salon can compete with gloss they have over a hundred colors and are always on top of the latest collections from OPI, Gellish, etc...I am also a fan of their spa herbal pedicure. Not only do you get a 50 minute pedicure you get to pick your herbal scent out of a selection of 20 or so and they massage you TWICE. One with a hot stone which is to die for. The other is at the end with lotion. If you think paying $40 for this treatment is high think again, it's worth every penny. The only really negative thing I have to say about this place is I noticed ON ONLY ONE OCCASION did I have a girl not fully massage my feet with lotion at the end of my pedicure session, she kind of rushed through it. Other than that this place Is the best around. I highly recommend it to everyone, in fact my mother and girlfriends all now go to gloss and that's not because of my reviews but because of their reputation. read more
