This company is a complete scam!! Do not use them unless you want your money stolen. They were contracted out through our insurance company and when they came to our house they said all we needed was a new disposal because the blades broke, and they would be back in 3 days with a new disposal once approved from our insurance company. Come to find out they wrote up in their report that we needed new extension pipes despite already having a hooked up disposal under our sink. This costs us $375 because modifications are not covered in the insurance. I called them asking why this was necessary and why no one told me about this. All the man said was we were not the customer, my insurance company was, they were not trying to charge me more more (they're trying to charge my insurance company more), and he COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY I NEEDED THE $375 PIPES. This company added more substantial charge sand modifications after he left the inspection, never told us that is what we would need. This is a case of a contractor adding more unnecessary jobs to get more money. So. Unethical and wrong!! Completely shady and unethical. Do not call or use them. read more

Nice on the phone but full of excuses. I had a toilet break. I was told that they could not come for 5 days. I was scheduled between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM and at 5:20 I received a call that the "truck broke down" and would not be able to make it. I asked why I wasn't notified earlier, ....no reponse. I rescheduled and this meant 4 more days of waiting. Now, the day of the second appointment, they AGAIN called and said that they can't make it. I give up. RIPOFF REPORT - AHS sent them to repair a water heater. Repair man came and said easy job, will be done in 2-3 days. No issues. Next morning AHS calls and says GMI is requiring 5 items to be repaired in order to bring to code. Total cost out of pocket to GMI over $600. Called to verify with GMI, here's where it gets good. Item 1: (See photos) New drip pan $85. (Cost $17.98 at Home Depot) He told me over phone I didn't have one currently, I told him I'm looking at it. He said it wasn't a drip pan so I read him the manufacturer's label which states Water Heater Drip Pan. He then said it was broken. I said its holding the water that leaked from the heater, so how is it broken? He said I don't know what I'm taking about. I asked him which is, do I not have one or is this one broken. He then started yelling at me. I then yelled at him your fired and hung up. Another line item was $175 to ventilate the water heater. I have attached a photo of the ventilation which goes through the attic and exits the house via a vent. He told AHS I had zero ventilation currently. Total scammer. Liars, Dishonest, Unreliable, unprofessional To my Home insurance company they stated my water pressure was too high and that I needed a water pressure regulator installed. They never said that to me and gave me an invoice for the work done. When I checked the water pressure it was within the normal range 40-60 psi and I do have a pressure regulator that is not in the normal spot. They then closed the order and I can not get a hold of them now. The original reason I called was because of leaking faucets. I assure that they did not want to replace the faucets. I'm going with a second opinion now to see what they say. I hope they are better. read more

He snapped a photo. Didn't bring any tools in. Left no estimate for work / charges. Said he was busy and had to go. Then I get a bill from American Home Shield (home warranty) telling me I owe for his visit. No damages assessed. No communication about next steps. If you can use someone else do it! If you read Lauren H's review below the exact same thing happened to us. The technician came out to our home. Took about 2 seconds to look at our garbage disposal and said "it's easy, needs to be replaced." Then two days later the company called and said we would need to pay them $320 extra for installation because the drain pipe needed to be extended. They also looked at our sump pump. Again looked at the pump and again said "this is easy, just need a new pump." However they reported to the warranty company that the pump worked fine and needed nothing. We called BS and called our warranty company and demanded a new plumbing company come out for a second opinion. The second company came with a replacement garbage disposal. Installed it with zero modifications needed. They also serviced the sump pump to get it working again. There were no extra charges or modifications required for anything. So do not hire this plumbing company. They are scam artists. We are reporting them to the CA Contractor State License Board, BBB, and the warranty company. read more

This place is a total scam. I was forced to use them by AHS. They spent less than 5 mins at my place and told me I had to replace my water heater (ok, not a wrong diagnosis. It's 13 years old). AHS won't let me change contractors and this guy is trying to charge $100 for a drain pan (plus a ton of other things that are not even needed). He said that I either pay him $500 or I can go somewhere else and pay $2500-3000. (ps, not true. Went through CML Plumbing, best guys around. Got it done for $1600 including the tank!). Worst Experience Ever! My home warranty company, First American, referred this company to my home. He took pictures and told me that I have a broken cast iron pipe (watering from from my wall and under my home". He also tried to unclog my drains, which he was unsuccessful. He said that he would submit the information to the warranty company. For three days, the warranty company and myself have been trying to get in touch with GMI... no answer. They even tried to call the technician on his cell and he said that he didn't recall being at my home (two hours earlier). I don't want anyone to have to deal with this kind of service. Asked AHS for a second opinion so they sent out another plumber who replaced the disposal same day, said the piping was absolutely fine. Thankfully my experience went great! I was really worried seeing the reviews. Just moved into a new home and the water heater is not producing hot water even though the pilot is on. Call our Home Warranty company (Old Republic) and they put me in touch with GMI. The guy had a very thick accent (maybe russian?) but he was nice and was able to stop by to check out the problem in the same day. Turns out it was the control valve as we had water and the pilot was on, but it was not heating. Had to wait a few days for the actual service because we needed a WHOLE NEW UNIT. But the guy came on Saturday and installed it. The whole process went pretty smooth! read more

I was a bit apprehensive based on the reviews and the fact that I went through my home warranty company. Plus, with any plumbing issue, I was terrified they were going to tell me something horrible and expensive just to up sell me. I put my claim for a leaking pipe in on Sunday and they called me the same day. Unfortunately, I didn't see the message until later after they were closed. Then the next day, they called again to schedule, again, I didn't hear my phone ring, but promptly called them back and had to leave a message. Soon after, Peter and I connected and he scheduled someone for same day, and a guy by the name Zack (?), came to my house about an hour later. I was not home but my boyfriend Jake was. Now, Jake typically doesn't like most people and rarely has anything good to say. But, he thought the plumber was extremely professional, courteous and got down to work diagnosing the issue immediately. He fixed the leak within an hour and even gave some recommendations as to a low water pressure issue we are having. I am hoping to have them out again to see if they can help with our low water issue. I will update the review upon the other job, but absolutely pleased with their service, and timeliness. read more

If I could give this company negative stars I would. This company was assigned to me by AHS. They showed up in an unmarked vehicle, no uniform, or paperwork to let me know who they were. The dude had the nerve to get offended when I asked for identification, because I guess most people allow complete strangers to enter their home all the time. Against my better judgement I let him in because I needed the water in my toilet to at least stop running. I had two faucets and a running toilet in need of repair. The dude was so completely unprofessional, barking at me and appeared visibly upset when I showed him each item. I couldn't understand him as he kept speaking his native language but there was definite frustration in his voice, like I was bothering him. I guess other people call repair folks just for fun. I couldn't close the water shut off value to the running toilet so the water was still running. Dude doesn't fix anything saying stating I need a completely new toilet and I'll hear from AHS if they decide to replace the item. I ask him to at least try to turn off the water to the toilet. He shouts "no!" and he quickly left my house. Needless to say I called AHS and told them to never send that company to my house again. Four days later I got a call from AHS. The toilet was still running. They said GMI's diagnosis was all of my items were due to "excessive force" which was not covered under the plan. I since cancelled AHS and called reputable plumber, CSR. CSR said the toilet was running because the flange on my toilet had a bad seal. He said I could actually fix it myself and told me what to buy. He also gave me his cell number and told me to call if I had any problems. Ended up costing me $26. No new toilet. AHS would not accept my complaint stating they only take second opinions from one of their service provided. I also researched GMI and found out they were actually no longer in business at the time they came to my house for service. Both companies are completely rip offs. I since cancelled AHS. read more

This plumber was referred by American home shield insurance for an estimate. The plumber doesn't respond to phone calls or emails. Provided an estimate of what was wrong with our water heater to the insurance company that actually blamed the solar panels. The estimate was completely In accurate and required a second opinion so the work Could be authorized. If American home shield referred this plumber to you my recommendation is get a different plumber otherwise your home warranty repairs are going to take a long time and you will have to pay additional fees for a second opinion. read more

First American warranty sent these guys out. When they arrived at my house no one bothered to get out and knock or ring the doorbell. They just called my husbands number while he was at work unable to answer. I finally called to figure out when they were coming out. Peter explained to me that they called several times to get ahold of someone to come out. He said before they came out someone called but no one answered so it was a courtesy to me that someone even showed up. He kept telling me they had pictures of my house that someone came out. But every time I asked him if someone knocked or rang to doorbell, he would not answer me. I understand it was partially my fault with them not having my number, but I've never heard of a contractor showing up without knocking on the door. What a waste of time. My water heater went out and I did not know anything about them. Since buying my condo I have had many experiences with plumbers that did sub par jobs either aesthetically or not doing things well. However, GMI plumbing was different. I am pretty busy in my work and they came and inspected the water heater around my busy schedule. They went above and beyond my expectations for a water heater even installing a breaker to prevent a problem they discovered and I would never have known the difference, etc. Their attention to detail is evident. I will definitely be using them in the future and I am very happy with my choice. read more

Pathetic. GMI... Where do I begin. I can't give them zero stars but because Yelp is forcing me to give a star, you get one. If I could give you negative stars, I would. Unbelievable. American Home Shield contracts with this horrible company - a company I attempted to contact more than twice since their "technician" came to evaluate what we believed was a back up in our kitchen sink - without so much as a call back. Upon arrival, I walked the technician into our home while explaining simultaneously about the kitchen sink back up and the water that came from under the sink cabinet. I then walked the technician (I can't even say plumber with a straight face because he didn't so much as turn on the water to the sink) outside to the opposite side of the sink. The ground was damp. He immediately said yep, the pipe is broken. Did he dig? No. He simply touched the ground and moved dirt with a rock. So he comes inside the kitchen, he looks under the sink, the cabinet now warped from the water leak; still damp. The drywall behind the cabinet; damp, the interior or the exterior wall; also still damp. To which he replies, yes, definitely a pipe break. He said he would provide American Home Shield a report. No response from either AHS or GMI, not even today as I called again. I had to call both. In contacting AHS, they tell me the technician said the pipe was broken outside of the home and our claim would be denied, OUTSIDE of the foundation of the home. HOW he came to that conclusion, I cannot in my wildest dreams fathom. Today, nearly a week after the initial water problem, we called another plumber to evaluate. Immediately the plumber comes in, gets under the sink, runs the water and finds the pipe leak is between the wall just below the faucet. He's been here ten minutes. IT WAS INSIDE THE WALL GMI... INSIDE, not OUTSIDE THE FOUNDATION. Had your technician taken more than SEVEN minutes inside my house he too would have found where the leak was really coming from. Your technician is lazy and cost us hundreds of dollars, not just our "service fee" from AHS but now several hundred more for the pipe YOU should have fixed. Guarantee, I will let everyone I know how horrible your company is. Thank you for showing me zero customer service whatsoever. NEVER use this pathetic company. read more

The eastern european gentleman who does the field service calls was completely unreliable and unethical. He was sent by my home insurance company for toilet and garbage disposal repair. He showed up, didn't fix anything, claimed he needed parts and left. He filed a false report with the insurance company claiming that the work on the toilets was complete and that there was a foreign object in the disposal and so it was not covered by insurance . After some phone calls with the insurance company they sent a service tech from another company and the new guy fixed everything in less than 20 minutes including the garbage disposal which had no foreign objects inside of it. Bottom line, the guy lied and tried to collect insurance fees by gaming the system without actually doing any work. Employ this company at your own risk. read more

Horrible Experience! First American had George from GMI plumbing come out to inspect my shower. He told me that he was not qualified to access my shower valve because he had to break the tile? He said he would follow up with me and never did. I had to call another company (TL Premier Plumbing) and they came out within the hour and fixed the issue no problem without having to break the tile. They said my shower leak was due to normal wear and tear. George from GMI said it was due to excessive force and that they wouldn't provide the reimbursement for the job. Manny from TL Premier Plumbing provided an invoice stating that it was definitely due to normal wear and tear and NOT from excessive force. Based off the other reviews, sounds like everyone at GMI is extremely lazy and not qualified. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone I know. read more

Like most of the reviews - I don't believe any of those that are more than 1 star - I had the same awful experience. This company is a joke. I contacted AHS Warranty because I had constant running water, a water bill that almost tripled in two months, and I needed discovery and repair. GMI called me and left a message telling me they would be out on 11/19 without confirming with me that I would even be available. I was not available so I called them back less than 2 minutes later and had to leave a voicemail. I also needed to explain the issue to them which I also left in my message. I wanted to make sure they could handle the job. GMI NEVER returned my call. I also texted. NOTHING. This seems to be a common theme with this company. On 11/19 a man called with a thick accent and I was finally able to figure out he was the plumber and would be at my house in 20 minutes. I scrambled home even though I was NOT available and had never confirmed the appointment. When he arrived I told him what the problem was. He got on the phone with his boss for 10 minutes then put me on the phone with his boss. The boss told me he never received my voicemail (I confirmed the number I called and length of the call itself.) He then proceeds to tell me we most likely had a "Slab Leak", they did not have the equipment to detect this and it is very expensive to fix. INCREDIBLE. How could they know this? Physic plumbing techniques? (We most definitely do not have a slab leak.) We have constant running water I explained! So, the service guy comes inside for the first time and I take him into the bathrooms where we can HEAR running water. He then takes out a moisture meter. (I have already explained to him and his boss we don't have a moisture issue, just constant running water). His moisture meter detects NO MOISTURE - go figure. So after 30 minutes of him doing absolutely nothing; did not check valves, did not check the meter, .... nada, he says he can't find the problem, sorry and good by! The next day I am charged $125.00. AHS told me the diagnosis they received from GMI stated we had no leak. Genius. I told them we had no leak. JUST CONSTANT RUNNING WATER. This is their scam me thinks. They don't confirm directly, don't return calls and don't know what they are doing so they don't fix the problem. Save yourself some time, stress and hassle - if your warranty company tries to send GMI to your house refuse and ask for another company. read more

My Home warranty hired this company and the first impression was very unprofessional. The guy that went to check my faucet keeps complaining it is a physical damage and then talks to a different language and just temporarily fixed it and went off without explaining anything. I usually don't mind people speaking other languages because English is my second language as well but this guy was rude. Our conversation goes like this: Me: The faucet is broken and needs to get replaced. Guy: It's a physical damage and talks in a different language that I don't understand Me: Do you want me to turn off the water supply? Guy: yeah buddy! It's a physical damage and talks again in a different language. Guy: it's done I checked and he just put it back the way I always do it and within a short time period, it will loosen up again cause the thread is already broken. He checked my water heater and said he would submit a quote to American Home Shield. He never did and would not answer any calls from me or American Home Shield. It is always very stressful when you have pluming issues. However when confident professional is showing up it makes all difference in the world. GMI's technician Radi showed up on time, did great repairing job, helped me to explain to my insurance what is the problem and what's needed to be done. He didn't leave until all issues were resolved. Cleaned up everything after repair. I would highly recommend this services to anyone.
