It has been a while since I've been to Gobi Mongolian BBQ. I usually have been to the ones at the mall. The parking lot is decent sized and parking shouldn't be a problem. They are next to Pho Queen, Subway, Hometown Health Spa, etc. The service was friendly. NOTE: They are NOT an AYCE place! It's pretty much work your way down the line filling up your max limit of two bowls with sliced meats (beef, chicken, and/or pork), noodles, fresh vegetables, and a sauce bar that you make yourself with some house recommended sauces to help you along. Afterwards, you hand your bowl to the cook and he will prepare your mixture together into the Mongolian Bbq dish to enjoy. They do offer some free fried won Ton wrappers with sweet and sour sauce. Complimentary steamed white rice and Fountain soda machine. Bottled drinks extra charge. The interior is simplistic with minimal decor and basic with dark colors. read more

The inside is decent sized and not as chaotic as it is at the mall. The food is just like it is if you were to have it at the mall, maybe even better. They have steamed rice that you can grab yourself and also some soup. They have a soda fountain with water. Still going strong! My go to place for Mongolian BBQ in the Bay Area. Really is a deal for fresh ingredients of your own choosing and can even take to go. It's not AYCE but you get two bowls to use, fried won tons, egg flower soup and steamed rice. You also get a scoop of vanilla ice cream included. Their soft serve machine broke so no more. The person at the cashier asked if it was our first time there and since it was, he explained everything and let us take a look first. Me and my coworkers come here for lunch. The food is always fresh and delicious. The customer service is great. It's a self serve location so it's pretty simple and easy. You can't go wrong with a Mongolian plate. They also have beer if you want to have a drink, the environment is very calm. It could get very busy especially for the parking. This place needs better ventilation.... The food selection is good. After cooking the food, the sauce stays so it's not as waterdown as other places nearby. So that was a bonus. For around $20, you get two rounds to pile on as much as you can--just don't press down on the food, as the signs sternly warn. The sauce selection is weak--mostly watered down--and the ingredients looked a bit questionable, though still passable. The chef cooks everything fresh and stuffs the steaming hot food into plastic containers. Unfortunately, the heat melted the container, which was a huge letdown. Ambience is practically non-existent--dead quiet with dim lighting--and I didn't expect much in the way of service. It's a no-frills place where you get a massive amount of food for a low price. Honestly, it was just okay, all the way around. The food is OK and the service is OK and the tables were OK. There was nothing special that I can think to point out or highlight. The selection of items to put into the mandated two bowls only was standard, nothing special and there was not a chicken option. I went with the Udon noodles, which was a mistake because they took up too much room in the bowl and I got very few veggies. They tasted good but next time I'll just do the self-serve rice available after your food is cooked. My food tasted fine but I could have used a little more flavor; I probably didn't put enough sauce on. They give you a little "Menu" of flavors to try, with how many scoops of each flavoring, but it doesn't say if that is per bowl or to be split between the bowls. I split them and I don't think that was the right move. I didn't get a soda but it looked like their fountain soda offerings were a little spare. At least one was out of order and the ice came out so slowly I thought maybe someone was in there chipping away at a glacier. In the end, it was $20 for an OK bowl of noodles, meat and veggies and I enjoyed eating it well enough. I was there toward the end of the night, so the place was empty but I was still surprised to see one of the employees (or a friend, it was unclear) come in with a huge bag of food from another restaurant and they proceed to eat it. I still come here 2-3 times a month! Legit my fav Mongolian bbq place I've ever been to and I've been to a lot. Look at my plate! Totally loaded up good. I love their beef it high quality with minimal fat. Their sauces are always so rich and never diluted. My fav is the curry, garlic, hot oil, bbq and teriyaki. I throw all that on my meat and veggies for a flavorful combo. My fav veggies is the broccoli, onion, green onion, mushrooms, corn, zucchini! I love this place and had such a wonderful lunch today. I thoroughly enjoyed my Mongolian bbq experience here! I didn't know places like these existed outside of the genghis khan Mongolian bbq place inside malls (pls dont judge), so I was delighted to find a place like this existed. You start with two empty bowls and just stack as much ingredients as you want. It was kind of fun to Tetris everything in a chaotic way. I would suggest starting with some flat meats, then add noodles, and then more meat on top for one bowl. The other bowl can be for veggies. There's a station for sauce where they have recommended combinations of sauces to get a certain taste. I did a mix of the gobi special and the spicier version. The food was cooked so quickly on the big grill! It was so cool to see it in action. Owner came by and said there's fried wonton chips, rice, soda and vanilla ice cream we could grab too! My lunch was 16.99 (with tax around 18.50). Not bad because I took half of it home for dinner. I think they historically take cash but I saw a visa and Mastercard sticker on their entrance podium. Still paid cash though. I'd rate this place 4/5 because the flavor of my meal was lacking even though I followed the recommended ratios for sauces. But the homey and authentic experience is 5/5. If you've never had Mongolian bbq then Gobi is a good place to start. The food will be put together by you including what sauces you like. So at the end it should be decent to good enough. It took some time for my sons to get it down to exactly what they wanted but now it's one of their favorite meals. Service is always very polite and friendly. Decent food. $16 for what I got is definitely steep for the quality/ingredients I chose though. It's been a while since I've had Mongolian bbq, so I've lost touched with "stacking the ingredients up high". Pro-tip (from what I observed other people doing): stack the noodles on top of the meat so it doesn't fall over. The noodles take up a lot of space + it's heavier, so it'll hold the other ingredients in place. Also, they put shrimp at the end (near the sauce), so don't forget to save some space for that if you're interested. The food will definitely be worth it if you're able to stack them (like my neighboring table did - my plate was only half the size of theirs). Don't get too greedy though, because it's bad to waste food! The owner was very friendly and offered assistance when he realized it was our first time there. I was not at all impressed with the decor and food of the restaurant as it gave off a cheap Chinese bistro feel. The type that may have healthcode issues. None of the staff spoke or served me besides the cook who cooked for me. Perhaps this is a lunch place and they did not put out fresh meat, but I am 100% sure there was something spoiled or rotten as I'm currently writing this review right after I ate there and am feeling very sick!! Also the food and sauces themselves did not taste at all good. The first round was sub-par but edible. I got lamb, shrimp with a variety of vegetables and the Gobi sauce. The second round was really, really bad. I think the chicken I put into the second plate had gone sour. I ate a few bites and honestly could not have any more. The only reason I tried to eat a few more bites was to reduce the amount on my plate bc you have to pay more if you leave food on the plate. The taste was just disgusting and felt very spoiled. The Mongolian BBQ food is ok here, no better and no worse than others in the area. But unlike others, you're limited to two bowls before cooking, rather than all-you-can-eat. The price comes with one self-service fountain drink, but no refills! The night my friends and I dined there, the place was almost empty. I think there were only two other parties of 2-3 people there. Granted it was a rainy night, but I wonder if the poor business had something to do with their restrictions? Great Mongolian BBQ place with exceptional service! The store owner asked if we were dining in or ordering take out. When we told him we were dining in, he kindly went through the options they had in terms of protein and veggies. Each person is allowed a max of 2 bowls to build their Mongolian BBQ plate. Choice of protein includes beef, pork, chicken, and lamb. At this establishment, you get to portion your own noodles. There was a wide selection of chopped vegetables and there were recommendations for sauces. The owner walked up to me and helped me put the sauce for my serving which was very nice. I opted for spicy. Food took no more than 5-10 minutes to cook. I really enjoyed the texture of the firm noodles and how tender the beef was. The sauce was also savory and not too salty. We were pleasantly surprised with our experience (we have ordered twice during COVID), having lowered expectations for a normally all-you-can eat dining experience being replaced by take out with very limited choices. There's only three types of bowls and you can only choose one meat, one base, and then up to six ingredients. I mean, you don't need to really have any more than that, and they do give you plenty to feel at maximum capacity, but there's a few changes I would have liked to see: 1. more flexibility with sauces... we're used to making our own sauce, and there was really only teriyaki, Sweet and Sour, and "Gobi Choice" - whatever that means, because there is no explanation on the menu 2. more flexibility with options... six is great, but then we have no ability to indicate how much of each, or choosing one option more than once... there's also no option to add in spices/sesame seeds, or sriracha/hot sauce, which would seem like an easy option to add. Bottom line, the food is hearty, plentiful, and really hits the spot. It's just simple and no-nonsense right now so you just can't expect the same in-person experience. read more

this place is great, the service is really good and very helpful. 10/10 would come here again with my family. Great prices. I never went here when it was AYCE but honestly I made one plate and I was full already. Plus there is complementary ice cream which is always a plus. Love the food and how cool it was for them to cook the food in front of me. I would suggest pork/beef and the essentials onions, mushrooms, carrots, and of course the noodles.
