Absolutely a perfect dish. You cannot go wrong with the Chinese chicken salad. This is a fact.

If you are looking for an absolute culinary treasure in the South Bay, look no further than Tao Tao in Sunnyvale, California. Standing proud on historic Murphy Avenue, this legendary establishment has been serving up perfection for an incredible 75 years. Walking through the doors, you immediately feel the wonderful blend of its rich, classic heritage and an inviting, updated atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. While the historic look and warm feel of the restaurant set the perfect stage, the real star of the show is the food. To put it simply: absolutely everything on the menu is a masterclass in flavor. Every single dish is executed flawlessly, hitting the table piping hot, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with authentic, crave-worthy taste. Tao Tao has been my family's absolute favorite restaurant for as long as I've been alive. (I am 54.) It was my mother's ultimate go-to spot, and no visit is complete without ordering her two prized favorites: the world-class Chinese Chicken Salad--which is a phenomenal, towering combination of perfectly shredded chicken, crunch, and unmatched flavor--and the Vegetable Egg Foo Young, which is beautifully fluffy, light, and smothered in a rich, savory brown sauce that you'll want to finish to the last drop. Do yourself a massive favor: stop settling for mediocre takeout and go experience a true Bay Area institution. Consider this a polite but highly enthusiastic demand--drop what you are doing, gather your family, and head to Tao Tao immediately. Your tastebuds will thank you!

Restaurant is well lit and bright inside. The two of us ordered their Top 3 in my opinion, Tao Tao Beef, Chinese Chicken Salad and Mighty Mai Tais. Our server was great and I wished I caught his name.

    Deluxe Family Meal for lunch

I came to have lunch with some friends. We were a party of six and ordered the deluxe family meal plan that came with seven dishes. Everything was so delicious! The first dish served was Chinese Chicken Salad, very tasty just the way that I have remembered it. This Chinese restaurant has been around for a very long time on Murphy Ave and quality of the food is still delicious. The Tao Tao beef is one of my favorites along with the honey walnut prawns. Shrimp fried rice and chow mien were fine. The veggie dish was yummy, I liked the snow peas, broccoli, and asparagus combo. Fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, delicious! We still had plenty of leftovers and we give it to a friend that was retiring. We were celebrating her retirement. Overall, I would come back when I am craving for some Chinese food, especially the Chinese Chicken Salad and the Tao Tao Beef dishes. Many tables inside. Service is great.

Nice clean courteous restaurant & staff. But the foods don't even meet up to par. So little protein. My X said weak flavor for the soup, and I agreed, but it's healthy & maybe no MSG? When I looked around, there was no Asian customers, so I should have known. Go for the ambience.

My family has been dining here for about 50 years. Tao Tao Beef, Chicken Salad, sweet and sour pork, potstickers, won ton soup are our favorites. We recently had a big (24 person) dinner for a birthday party. We ordered shortly ahead of time, and the food was perfect, and the service great. Many happy memories have been made here. The Mai Tais are legendary.

They offer a group meal & superior group meal for 5 people. Came with a huge chicken salad, honey shrimp, fried rice, Chow mein, and steamed veggies. Big portions! Service was fast! There is a big lot across the street and parking is free!

Chicken salad (with extra hot mustard)

I gave a review a year ago and I am back to gladly say the Chinese chicken salad is back!! the 1970s chicken salad is back! I'm so glad and thankful. I was so sad that it had changed but it is as good as it used to be again! Everything is so good with the exception of the fried calamari. We only ate a couple of pieces, didn't even eat more than one bite. It was not what they used to happen years ago, they change it, it was not a fraction of what it used to be. But everything else I've ever had it's the best, like their potstickers they are amazing!! the texture of their rapper is just perfect it's a perfect blend of melt in your mouth and crispy! And their honey walnut prawns are an absolute 12 out of 10! Thank you for making this girl so happy tonight! I completely forgive you for the calamari.

Did Tao Taos remove the lunch and/or dinner combos for 2 guests or more? I don’t see it on the online website or is it a secret menu now or only in person ordering?

Yes. They have outdoor seating available. Check in with the host first and they will seat you.

We actually watched the World Cup final here and the atmosphere was awesome. The dim sum is traditional Hong Kong style, and the quality is definitely there. You definitely need to get the Black Gold Salty Egg Yolk Buns. They look cool with the black and gold style, and the molten salted egg yolk center is perfectly rich without being overly sweet. The Lychee Shrimp Balls are super unique too; they look exactly like real lychees on the outside but are stuffed with a snappy shrimp paste that isn't greasy at all. For the classic stuff, the Har Gaw and Siu Mai hit the spot--the skins hold up well without tearing and the pieces are nice and plump. The Baked BBQ Pork Buns are also great, with that crispy, sweet polo-style topping and a good amount of savory pork filling inside. Service can be a little slow on busy weekends since the place gets packed with families, but the staff keeps the kitchen moving as fast as they can. If you want high-quality Cantonese comfort food, excellent dim sum, and a great space to catch a game, this spot is definitely worth a visit.

Soup Dumplings, Shrimp Rice Roll, and Steamed Sparerib, all were good as usual. Half Peking Duck was a highlight, love the perfectly thin and crispy skin. Fried E-Fu Noodle with Lobster - the lobster is fresh and huge, great flavor without being overly salty nor greasy. Black Pepper Beef Fillet with Assorted Mushroom, I like the tender beef and the mushrooms were well seasoned. Sautéed Chinese Broccoli (kailan) with Dried Flounder Flake, the flavor was good, but the kailan stems were cut too large, difficult to eat. We finished with satisfying desserts, Black Gold Salty Egg Yolk Bun was excellent with the lava effect. Mango Pomelo Sago was awesome, and the Snow Lotus Seed Peach Resin was really good and not too sweet. Everyone was full and happy.
