Woah! This place gets really crowded by 12pm as it's in Santa Clara where everyone would want to leave their computers and get hungry. All you can eat mongolian for that price is great. The meat lovers enjoy this place. I don't eat meat so I went with imitation crab and I must say it was very delicious. Maybe the sauces that I chose were the right amount of quantity and the spice level was perfect. Except for the ambiance everything else is pretty decent. It's all self service too. Gobi Mongolian Grill is one of those places where quantity over quality is the name of the game. At Gobi, you fill 2 bowls of whatever combination you desire from the array of veggies, meat, noodles, and sauces offered, and they cook it for you on the grill. Since it is AYCE, you can go back for more food as much as you want. This is an appealing concept at first, but, the food here is not fresh and very poor quality. The meats are all frozen and it's obvious that most of the veggies come from bags. There aren't many sauce options, and I found my food pretty bland despite adding a lot of chili and various sauces. The cook seemed to drown my food with water while swirling it all over the grill, hence why all the good flavoring was washed away. So I did make a nice large plate with several veggies, beef and shrimp with noodles. They also have rice and soup. It was really good you also add your own spices and sauces. 3.5 stars We were invited here for a family event. Staff was attentive & helped with sauces. I haven't been to a Mongolian BBQ place in forever! This place doesn't have a huge selection of stuff, but everything seemed relatively fresh. You can take 2 bowls (not one!) and fill them with thinly sliced frozen meats, veggies, noodles, tofu, and top with sauces. The frozen meat choices include chicken, beef, lamb, pork, imitation crab sticks, small shrimp in the next case. I got some fried tofu pieces which really soaked up the sauce. There was a lady helping us with the sauce selections. Right above the sauces were printed "recipes" for certain flavors like teriyaki. They cooked it quickly on the giant griddle. No "show" here, just basic cooking. I asked for "non-spicy", but it still came out pretty darn spicy & too salty near the end. I could still eat it, though. Could have been cross-contamination. DH went back a second time around and it wasn't spicy. I mixed a bunch of meats together. The lamb was mildly gamey. Not bad. The wide yellow egg noodles were better than expected. It's nice to have fresh veggies. DH said, "It was okay. It was a good value. The soup had no flavor. I guess it was okay." I think it was too healthy for DH, but he did go back for seconds at the buffet line. :) Egg flower soup was undersalted. I normally don't eat this kind of stuff, so I can't really comment on how good it was. Seemed fresh, but it was very gelatinous. The soft-serve was not too bad. Not that creamy, but didn't taste too artificial. It's a good way to cleanse the palate afterward. This is not "fancy" food, by any standards. The tables were pretty clean, but the place clearly hasn't been remodeled in a while. The bathrooms were kind of old. If you order NO MEAT- without any complaint or hesitation, they'll clean the cooking top and scrape off all the meat residue and cook yours prior to meat being cooked on it and I think that's so nice and considerate of them. Medium sized restaurant by Lawrence expressway. We reached there around 1130 so we got to go straight to the food but in 15 mins the whole lunch rush came in and it was PACKED! The food selection is nice and tasted fresh and yummy. The soft serve was delicious and included in the price. I would suggest getting here early if youre trying to enjoy a nice meal. So let's start with the negatives. The decor is lacking, the entire restaurant is in rough shape but clean. Not someplace to bring someone you're trying to impress. It's not AYCE, but with a bit of planning one time through should satisfy most people. Food quality is ok. Not the best cuts of meats, but acceptable. The fresh produce is good and the canned stuff is canned and acceptable too. Sauces are a bit dilute. Cost isn't a bargain. So after all that why do I eat here about once a week for lunch? It's a good way to eat tasty vegetables and is a reasonable value. You can pile up a good amount of meat and vegetables with some half decent Chinese noodles, and have a filling and tasty meal that is even relatively healthy if you mostly use the vegetables and watch the sodium. They have a reasonable to good selection of meats. Beef (not a great cut), chicken breast, pork for lunch and for dinner/weekends they add lamb and shrimp. Also a good selection of vegetables, though nothing too exotic. The fried noodles are usually crispy and warm to provide a crunchy treat, and you can have some mediocre soft serve too, neither of those choices are really healthy. The staff are friendly and helpful. They make sure the food is kept filled and tidied up. Bottom line: you can have a tasty, healthy meal here for a reasonable price. read more

It's no longer All You Can Eat (AYCE). Also you are limited to 2 bowls when getting the ingredients. The bowls have gotten a lot smaller. My husband and I used to come here a lot. It's one of the restaurants we like to eat at. The staffs are friendly and attentive. This place is pretty much self-serve which is great 'cause you have control of how much you want to put in your bowls. There are 4 choices of meat: chicken, beef, pork and lamb. Lamb is always our favorite! Basically, you get in line, take 2 bowls, stuff one bowl with choice of meats, veggies in the other bowl, top it with fresh egg noodles and then your choice of sauce. The instruction is there in case you don't know how much sauce should be put. Finally, hand your bowls to the cook & watch your food ready in a minute! If you fancy the cook, give him a tip or two. I know it's a buffet and all, but we can only handle 2 plates each. Don't forget the soft ice cream! By the way, the shrimps are only served at dinner time. read more

I could always tell who the engineers are. They meticulously search out the straight frozen slices of chicken, pork, or beef, stack them on edge around the bowl so it extends the bowl edges about three inches taller. Then they lay a base of flat zucchini strips on the bottom of the bowl to hold the "wall" in place. In the middle of this meat walled bowl they shove in more raw pieces of veggies and noodles, until the entire bowl represents a nuclear reactor from Chernobyl. Dude...use more than one bowl...it's free. For those not accustomed to Mongolian BBQ, well, it's not really barbecue, and I doubt that it's real Mongolian, but it's a favorite of mine. Get two bowls (take note, you engineers out there), and fill one with meat and the other with fresh veggies. At the end of the line, flavor it up with oils, garlic, sauces, and hand it over to the cook. Here is where the show begins. Each cook walks (or is it woks) around the circular grill, cooking your concoction while you absorb the scent of grilled food on your business attire. Go back if you are that hungry, and repeat the process again, complete with more smoke. Good place to pig out on relatively healthy food, but don't go back to work unless you want your cube dwellers to get envy from the smell. And engineers...once more...use more than one bowl! read more

This place is solid - I wouldn't go as far to call it unique, but when it comes down to it, you get as much food as you can stuff your face with for between $8 - $10 depending on the day of the week/time that you go. It definitely is more of a self-serve kind of place, so come here expecting a do it yourself kind of lunch. You get rice and soup with your meal if you want it and free ice cream at the end if you want it. A couple of notes: 1) you can grab two bowls at a time so you don't have to moosh the meat at the bottom of a bowl - then put your noodles/veggies in a separate bowl 2) I recommend 2 scoops of soy sauce and 1 scoop of garlic 3) If you don't finish your plate, you get charged extra. You ever notice how 75% of the time no matter what you put together in your bowls at a Mongolian BBQ place, it all ends up tasting vaguely the same? There are those time where you should be careful about who you're behind because you end up inheriting most of their flavorings because of that circular cooking pattern. Case in point: If you're behind my co-worker and me you better like spicy because we're gonna scorch your sphincter hardcore. Gobi is brand new and dont quite have the hang of things yet. Only one cook working the burner, huge line, and it's only their first official day for lunch. Not as much variety in sauces (which are lower in sodium than most) and veggies like Su's or El Camino Mongolian but it still fits the bill, since as I said, if you tossed enough things together it all tastes vaguely the same. Plus points? Brand new clean remodel and the staff are pretty friendly. So the real question is why don't any of these places serve lamb for lunch? After I walked in, first thing I saw was a hand-written price board and price written by dry-erase pen, "$10.75 per person". $10.75 should worth some good Mongolian BBQ, right? I was immediately got disappointment after I saw the raw food selection. A few pieces of brown flakes of lamb were laying around on the bottom of the medal box. There was poor variety of vegetable to choose from. Sauce instruction was printed on a piece of A4 paper in font 12. Chef poured at least 5 cups of water cooking my food, so there was barely any flavor. I took the cooked food and tried to find a table to sit down. Tables and chairs were so old and dirty. There were spills of noodle sauce all over the wall next to my food, EWW! I would give restaurant environment 0 star, food 1 star, coke 3 star, ice cream 4 star, Average it out, it would be 2 star. Wait, coke is $1.25 extra per person?! WOW, ALL-U-CAN-EAT BBQ. Are you charging extra for coke because coke is not something you can EAT, but DRINK?! I ended up paying $30 for two. I checked Yelp and noticed it only got 3 stars but the kids were getting hungry and it was so cold that night, we had to find something close by. So glad we found this spot! This is a great place for a cheap lunch that'll obviously fill you up. for $7.50 and it being an AYCE, i find it most notably better than going to Great Kahn's at the mall (where some co-workers like to go to for some odd reason). The only thing that would separate it from a place like Great Kahn's is the being able to bring food home... but it would be cheaper for me to eat here and be able to get more food. Visited this place after church and it was not difficult to get a seat at all. There were many tables and not that many people. So you basically have the option to hand-select your meats, veggies, sauces, and hand it to the guy who cooks it along with your noodles. If you prefer to eat it with steamed rice, there is a rice cooker as well. If you didn't get the flavor/sauce concoction correct before you gave it to the man to cook, there are others provided condiments you can add after you get your plate. There is a sauce guide which tell you which sauce to mix together to achieve a certain flavor (located above the sauce). . Sodas are available for an extra fee however there is a vanilla ice cream machine and egg flower soup for free. All in all, it's a good value for the money. Kids below the line on the door frame are free. Weekend and dinner pricing is $11.99. Weekday lunch is $9.99. I will deduct a star for having to pay dinner pricing on the weekend even though it is lunch time and we did not get the shrimp option that is offered at dinner. I am paying the dinner price so I believe we should have the dinner menu right? oh well anyways. I believe you can also pay a one time fee to take an order to go however you cannot take your leftovers with you if you have decided to eat in the restaurant. I'm lucky to find this place after a good ole afternoon of drinking cider nearby. This is an imperfect 5 - not without flaws, but it's at the core very solid Mongolian BBQ. I would say the meat range exceeds the bar - chicken beef pork tofu and imitation crab for lunch, with lamb and shrimp added on dinner. At the time of writing this is the uncontested cheapest Mongolian BBQ in the area - $9.99 for lunch and only a couple more bucks for dinner. Now as a guy who only eats meats, veggies, rice and noodles I'm extremely happy. Where this may be lacking is the sides and sauces. You can hit your main bases of salty, sweet, sour, savory etc., but you may have fewer options to work with compared to other locations. There is of course the ice cream option, but this is perhaps the first restaurant I've seen that doesn't offer fried veggie spring rolls. They had a soup in the back and a tray of fried wontons near the bowl. Wontons are fine for me, but people with more restrictive diets who rely on that staple may feel disappointed. The staff are a mixed bag. One was super polite, one was kind of standoffish.
