This place is truly a hidden gem! Whenever I'm craving amazing quality AYCE sushi, authentic kimchi fried rice, and KBBQ, this is where I come. The quality of the sushi and Wagyu is far better than most of the spots I've tried in Irvine. They also have a ramen bar, which is a huge bonus. My favorite way to end the feast is with their cookies & cream ice cream and a Korean coffee. This time around, I was lucky enough to meet the owner, Brandon, and he was amazing! Experiences like this are why family-run businesses have such a great reputation. They genuinely care about the flavor, the quality of the meat, and the overall dining experience. Hey Beautiful People! So you know how OC has like 50 kbbq places? Well, here's another one! But unfortunately, it's still deciding what it wants to be. What do I mean? It offers AYCE sushi AND kbbq; however, with the limitations it puts on customers for the amount of sushi ordered at one time and how long it takes to come out, you might as well eliminate the sushi altogether and focus solely on the kbbq. It's sad because they have shown that they can do sushi well, but they let you order only a couple pieces per person and then take 20+ min to get it to you. If not for the kbbq, we would have left hungry! However, I can say that at least their kbbq is solid. The ribeye is buttery and delicious and the meat is good quality for a $50 price tag. So what would I order again if I ever decided to come back? 1.) KBBQ only -Sushi limitations don't make the extra money worth it. 2 ) Wagyu Ribeye -Definitely the star of the show -Marbled and buttery -Generous portions + AYCE 3.) I was pleasantly surprised by Goginori! We made a dinner reservation for 7:00 PM and were seated within 5 minutes. I absolutely love that an all-you-can-eat (AYCE) restaurant offers reservations...honestly, being able to book ahead is an instant selling point for me. As someone who has been to practically every AYCE spot in Orange County, I had to see if this viral social media favorite lived up to the hype. We opted for the Premium Menu ($57.99), which includes both KBBQ and sushi. It features an incredibly efficient ordering system: Banchans are already on the table when you sit down, and you order everything directly from your mobile device. You can submit an order for up to 5 meats, 5 sushis, and 5 appetizers/sides every 5 minutes. The food comes out amazingly fast compared to other AYCE spots. 01. Sashimi Orders (Tuna, Salmon & Yellowtail) - 4 Stars - We were blown away by how fresh and high-quality the sashimi was. We were incredibly impressed right off the bat. 02. Bluefin Sushi (2 pp) - 5 Stars - WOW. We couldn't believe they offer bluefin on an AYCE menu. It had a beautiful, buttery richness that melted instantly and tasted exceptionally clean. We loved it so much that we maxed out the ordering limit (which I believe was 5 orders). It tasted remarkably like an Otoro cut...absolutely a must-order item. 03. KBBQ Meats - 4-5 Stars - The meat quality here is genuinely good, though it comes down to personal preference. Our server recommended their favorite cuts, and every single one was a winner. 04. Appetizers/Sides - 3-4 Stars - The Kimchi Fried Rice was a standout 4-star dish. The rest of the sides were a solid 3 stars: the fried chicken with powdered sugar was just okay, the steamed egg was decent, and the shrimp tempura and corn cheese were standard. The Spicy Tofu Soup was a bit bland on its own, but if you drop some brisket into the broth, it immediately upgrades the flavor. 05. Banchans 3 Stars - The side dishes were the only real letdown. The offerings looked a bit sad, and the cucumber and potato salads weren't very appetizing. We actually had to sprinkle some salt and pepper onto the potato salad just to give it some life. Don't get too excited for the banchan spread. LOCATION/PARKING - The restaurant took over the old Islands Restaurant. There are plenty of parking spots in the lot, though it can occasionally get tight if there's any protests on the corner of Culver. CUSTOMER SERVICE - Incredible service. Every single server was helpful, super friendly, and hyper-attentive. They always seemed to be a step ahead of what we needed. BONUS - They have a self-serve Ramyun bar as well as a tea and coffee station (the black coffee was actually good). To top it all off, they bring out a small cup of Thrifty's ice cream at the end of the meal. They only had vanilla the night we visited, but I hear they rotate in strawberry, matcha, and chocolate. VERDICT - Between the high-quality sushi cuts, the great meats, and the stellar customer service, we were thoroughly impressed and will absolutely be back. Don't walk, run here! They opened only 3 months ago? Why aren't they packed for a Friday evening yet? The price for the premium menu was $58/pp and is a bit of a sticker shocker, but it was a great yourself for a hard work week kind of night -- and totally worth it! They have an overwhelming extensive menu of offerings from KBBQ to sushi to a DIY ramen station and hot chocolate and coffee station. They have a lot of options for appetizers, such as japchae, korean fried chicken, tofu soup, egg soup, rice, gyoza, etc. You order everything through the QR code and get to select up to 5 items per category and submit your order every 5 minutes. We didn't know at first and submitted one order of 5 items only, so had to wait a little bit until we can submit another. Don't worry though, because the 90 minute rule was still plenty of time for us. The sushi was actually really good and IMO, was fresher and better cuts than some other ayce places that serve sushi, and that says a lot coming from a sushi connoisseur. Their meats were pretty tasty as well. Only 1 plate was a bit too cartilage to our liking, but we will opt out of getting that again. The ban chan, salad and mixed veggies helped balance out too much protein for us. We didn't have room to visit the ramen bar or get hot chocolate or coffee, but will be sure to try it out in a future visit. We were also offered cookies and creme and vanilla ice cream at the end to enjoy. Tip: The servers also help change out your grill constantly, so you don't have overly burnt food. This was a huge plus to us! The restaurant is a bit hard to find, but just look for Mimi's and they're in the same lot. I was so excited to try Gogi Nori after finding it on TikTok. There are so many AYCE spots now in OC, but I like that this one has sushi and meat options. We did the premium course. You order off of your phone , which is nice for convenience. You can order 5 meats, 5 sushis, etc at a time for each round. The sushi/fish was great! Felt like good quality. I'm still thinking about the wonton chips with tuna tartare! It was a pretty big portion of fish. All the sushi was good and so was the crispy rice, though that portion was quite small. It's okay though because you want to try everything vs. have big portions for something you can't finish! The meat was also good! I enjoyed everything and felt like the quality was good. The ribeye was alright though, would probably not order it due to textural issues in the future. I like that their pork belly was on the thinner side so it made it more manageable to eat! Their other wagyu beef meats were great! Their grill is also pretty unique and didn't burn at all (we chose no marinated meats though). But it was cool to see! Gogi Nori is a new AYCE KBBQ and sushi restaurant that opened in Irvine. Its selling point is that you can eat both KBBQ and sushi and don't need to settle for just one or the other. We made reservations on Yelp but you can also put your name on the waitlist. They have two options: premium ($57.99) and supreme ($74.99). We got the former which included a good variety of meat, sushi, and appetizer options. They also have a ramen bar where you can make instant ramen but we stuck with the KBBQ and sushi. There is a 90 minute time limit where you can order 10 items per order. You have a 4 minute gap between orders when you can order again. We used our phone to pick our food and it came out pretty quickly for us. Out of all the KBBQ options my favorites were the LA galbi, beef bulgogi, and wagyu ribeye. Out of all the sushi options my favorites were the yuzu yellowtail, crispy rice spicy tuna, and eel. Even though you can get the best of both worlds, it did feel a little weird eating salty hot meat followed by the more subtle cold fish. One thing I liked to do was to eat the sushi while the meat was cooking to give myself a break. The supreme option had things like lobster tail and blue crab but the premium option was sufficient for our needs. It's always interesting to me that this location went from being an island burger to a Korean Bbq joint then to a new Korean Bbq joint! With that said, me and my cousin decided to finally check this place out! We went on a Sunday around 2pm and was sat immediately. All were delicious especially the beef tongue here! The sushi order consisted of their seared items which were all awesome as well. Everything we pretty much ordered here was delicious and I had nothing to complain about. Onder made the experience even better by letting us know that they had ice cream in the end. AWESOME! Gogi Nori is one of the better all you can eat spots I've been to. The quality really stands out compared to typical AYCE places. The sushi tasted fresh and they actually serve real wasabi, which is a huge plus and not something you see often. The meats were just as impressive. You can tell they use premium cuts, and the wagyu had great marbling and flavor. Everything cooked well and didn't feel overly greasy or low quality like some other KBBQ spots. What also made a difference is that it's family owned, and you can feel that there's real care put into the restaurant. Service was attentive and the overall experience felt more elevated than your usual all you can eat. We came on a Thursday at 4pm and it was really empty, there was probably only two other customers there. Tiffany was one of the managers who helped us order and get to know the menu. She was so sweet and gave a small tour of the place since it just opened 3 weeks ago. My favorite part was the ramen bar!! Such a nice touch and definitely unique for a KBBQ. I'm a pretty simple eater so I didn't order any of the marinated meats (I also have trust issues of them being too sweet). The side dishes were really good and felt fresh (not old). The quality of the meat was decent, the beef belly was our favorite. It hit that baseline of what you'd expect and the sushi was good, (seared salmon and tuna) however for the crispy rice the rice its self was not very crispy at all. Service was also pretty average. The staff was attentive enough to keep things moving, but there wasn't anything especially memorable about the experience. Everything felt smooth but the plates did feel like it took a bit to come out. Overall, it's a reliable choice if you're in the area and want something consistent without high expectations. The Beef Quality is absolutely sensational! But the key is you gotta order from the supreme tier menu to get the best cuts of BEEF! It's all about the beef. The pork and chicken choices are like other places. But the Beef Quality, the marbling of the prime wood age Galbi, prime short ribs and boneless short rib is truly perfection. Plus the grill plates that are used, makes the meat extra tasty. You can be distracted with all the sides and appetizers like sushi nachos, gyoza, corn cheese, steamed egg but nothing beats the beef selection. The perfect pairing is the ramen bar or the kimchi fried rice. Btw, the table side brisket sauce is sooooo good and picked onions and radishes inside, sooo delicious. There is also this one time order of sushi omakase. If you eat that, you will not return to the regular sushi menu. Visited during their soft opening, so I cannot review their logistics on a typical busy day/night, but starting with service? Top notch. Every time someone passed by, they checked on me. Food came out promptly and used plates were removed almost immediately. Inside seems to be a small step up from the previous JBBQ establishment. Still clean. Same lay out. The essence and spirit of Islands still comes through with their benches. Ventilation is a huge step up though. The Japanese style claw games outside are a nice touch should this place get busy...the Squid Game Soju statues are also hilariously amazing. Order from your phone after the server has entered a PIN. I kind of like this over a standard tablet at the table. Though some may not enjoy this. What happens if my phone's battery is dying? Something I hope they've thought about. Food wise is pretty standard at the lunch special, with a lot of pros, and a few cons. The cuts were all really good except the Wagyu Brisket. Something about the cut just made it tougher than normal, almost like they were cut with the grain, but it wasn't. Beef Belly was the best item, with some of the best marbling; amazing quality. It's also nice to have pork jowl with the lower tier. Sushi was pretty good. I don't think its amazing quality, but it also wasn't the worst I've had. I think the 3 pieces per order is kind of a let down, but I can see why they did it for logistics. I will say, they need to figure out the Crispy Rice situation. Mine had stale rice, like they fried the rice yesterday, then offered it today after being in the fridge. If that's the case (for logistics) they probably need to scrap the item. it was NOT good. Kizumi available at the middle "premium" tier and above, but at a charge for the lunch special. Appetizers/sides across the board were pretty good. Although, when I think of Korean Fried Chicken, I don't think of Soy Garlic Karaage. So it's boneless, but its still pretty good and fresh. Jalapeno poppers were a surprise. Japchae and steamed egg were decent. Banchan offering was also just mid. Sprinkle some of that salt and pepper on the Mac Salad; you'll thank me. They have Ramyun bar, but I was told that it was only with the premium.... which makes sense given I DON'T WANT RAMYUN if I'm dropping $60+. All in all this place has a lot of potential and I wish them luck. I would honestly love to give them a chance at the Supreme Tier to compare and contrast with their competitors (both JBBQ and KBBQ), but we'll have to see if I can find someone to go with. A fun new spot for kbbq and sushi. We happened to go during their soft opening. There are claw machines at the entryway which is a good way to stay entertained if you're waiting for a table. The staff are really friendly and we were able to be seated within a couple of minutes. Onder was the main person who was helping us and he frequently came to our table to make sure we had everything that we needed. We looked up the menu ahead of time to decide which tier we wanted and there is a QR code on each table that's used to order from. The food comes out fairly quickly upon order submission. Since it was a soft opening, the staff were still working on the table numbers and we received some things that we didn't order, but we were able to have it sent to the correct table. The quality of the meat is good and I really enjoyed everything that we ordered. The crispy rice had a very generous amount of fish, but the rice itself was more chewy than crispy. Top-tier AYCE Korean BBQ and sushi is a tough combo to execute, but Gogi Nori pulls it off. We had an unforgettable experience at Gogi Nori thanks to our server, Onder. Super friendly and helpful throughout the night. Since they're still in soft opening, there were no physical menus yet for the table. Ordering was done via QR code on your phone. Some items didn't have pictures yet, but that'll likely improve over time. We started with the premium menu, but after Onder shared some background on the restaurant, we decided to go all-in on the supreme menu, and we're very glad we did. The supreme tier adds on: Lamb steak Lobster tail (grill-it-yourself or lobster roll) Prime wood-aged galbi (hands down my favorite) Prime hand-cut short rib Prime boneless short rib Wagyu rib cap Omakase I never bother with marinated meats. Other places give you a tablet too i couldn't believe how small the lobster tail was. I thought Fish and Game required lobster to be larger. Came here during lunch and honestly I was really impressed. Parking is easy and free and when you walk in you are greeted with claw machines and a chrome hand chair for pics. Such a fun touch. The inside is pretty simple but do not let that fool you. The food is actually really good. I have been to a lot of Wagyu spots and this might be one of my favorites. The craziest part is their lunch special is 34.99 and it really gives you that premium KBBQ experience for almost half the price. We literally just walked out of the restaurant and had to leave a review. For an AYCE KBBQ dinner, this place was really good. Our waiter, Ixhua, was so kind, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The beef selection was extensive and everything we tried was delicious. Way better than the restaurant that was here previously. Everything tasted great and fresh. Service was okay. Everyone was very attentive, but no one really explained how anything worked so we sorta just figured it out on our own. Scan the QR code, we guessed the password, and order from your phone. Didn't even know there was an instant ramen bar until I saw it on social media a couple of days later. Only mildly annoying part was the limit on what you can order especially for the nigiri since it was just 3 pieces per round with a couple of minutes between each round. Visited for my birthday a few days ago and I loved it. The service was fast and staff were friendly. We ordered from the premium menu. I was surprised by the quality and size of the sushi. I ordered the unagi (eel) and it was buttery and soft. The hand rolls were good and served with a very crispy seaweed. Some of the Korean bbq meats were amazing and others I would pass on next time. I'm definitely not a KBBQ expert but I know when something tastes good, and this place delivered. The location is what lured me in as it's right in my backyard. The wait wasn't hours long which is rare because if you've ever tried to get KBBQ in Irvine you know it can be a competitive sport, and that is usually what deters me from even going, but the staff were attentive and had things in check. The meats were fresh and marinated, but the sushi was what stole the show for me. The salmon and albacore melted in my mouth. Talk about best of both worlds. Ambiance was nice, not overwhelming like most of the other kbbq I have tried, made it great for a casual night with my friends. I visited Gogi Nori today, a fairly new sushi and BBQ restaurant, today around 12:30 PM on Thursday for lunch. They offer three different options, including Premium and Lunch. I chose the Lunch option. The sushi was okay, but each order was limited to about five pieces at a time. In my opinion, it was decent, but compared with a true dedicated sushi restaurant, the quality was a bit lower. As for the Korean BBQ meats, they were average as well. When I was there, the restaurant was not very crowded, with only around eight tables occupied. The interior itself was fine, mainly because the restaurant seems to have taken over the space from a sushi restaurant that had recently closed. However, I would rate the overall dining environment lower because I kept seeing employees walking in and out of the front entrance to smoke. Since many customers could clearly see that from inside, it did not feel very pleasant or polished. After tax and an 18% tip, the total came to about $44 for lunch. For that price, I think the value is only average. Overall, I would give it 3 stars. read more

By accident we tried this place in their grand opening. When you walk in you are met with a fun looking lobby with a few game machines and a mirrored chair shaped like a hand, however when you walk past and through the restaurant it has a totally different vibe which is very traditional with a big sushi bar. Not sure the contrast works very well. It was very crowded and the place bustling. We had reservations and were sat almost right away. The system of ordering is via QR code, but the first waiter said we can order through him or the code. We had multiple waiters come by our table to check on us and we were not sure who our waiter was. At one point we had two waiters ask us the same set of questions within a minute of one another. In fact they nearly collided when one was walking away and one was approaching. At one point one of the waiters approached and asked if we needed anything and we asked for another round and were told to do it using the QR code. Not sure what the point of asking us if we needed anything if we were going to be told to do it ourselves. It is an All You Can Eat place. There were no options for regular menu ordering. We were unaware of this when we made our reservation. I typically don't like the AYCE because I always over eat and feel bad after. Nevertheless, we were there so we went for it. The food came out quickly once we ordered except for the sushi. Which frankly was not very good and was very slow. We were told they were backed up in sushi. The KBBQ was ok, not bad, just ok. Same with the Bon Chon, just ok. This place has some work to do. If this was an established place I probably wouldn't go back as there are so many similar better options around, but given they are new I might give it another try to see if they worked out the issues. read more

Went for the grand opening on Saturday and it was a bittersweet experience. As a former server sometimes I know I can be a harsh critic so do with that what you will - I felt that for all the promotions via social media the execution the day of fell a little flat and as a result left people a bit disappointed with their experience. I feel people should know that on the weekends they ONLY offer two options: 1 at $58 per person and the other at $75 per person. Not sure if it's Friday - Sunday or just Saturday and Sunday but I feel people should be made aware. Felt like a bit of a bait and switch to come in and find out those are the only two options - a little steep in general but especially for the quality of the meat - I mirror the sentiment of other reviewers who've mentioned the meat quality and thinness (it really stuck to / melted into the grill). Sushi was good and the yellow tail crispy rice was good but other varieties of the crispy rice that came out were ice cold making it not taste very good. I feel they could've used one or two more servers as well. Our server would tell us about courses / options or other things and then immediately walk away to attend to something else before we could order or ask any clarifying questions. With one or two more servers it would've been a more seamless experience. Thankfully the other party I was dinning with had no issue speaking up and asking for promos /games that were advertised as a part of the grand opening celebration. Otherwise I don't think we wouldn't have received any of it. I think they should still offer the lunch special option on the weekends so that you're not paying $60-$75 for a lunch (before tip & tax). Don't know that I'll be back - too much prompting / follow up required by the customer to get what's promised. When it's one thing fine but when it's a handful things throughout your meal and then again at the end with the bill - it's frustrating to have to continually speak up to get something corrected. Love the concept and the availability of parking. Hopefully with a few tweaks this can become a great experience/ option for people who want Korean BBQ. read more
