I wish there were more than 5 stars. I am IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE. I know it's become very popular but my goodness I can see why. The door is packed and since there is limited seating be ready to potentially wait several hours to be seated. We were lucky to show up before the massive crowd so the wait was about ten minutes. I wish I would have read reviews before because it is a BYOB. But that's ok! That way you don't mask any of the flavors of the food. Where to start...the lobster Mac and cheese was so cheesy and the crumble topping added to the overall experience. The Gogo Salad was so refreshing and went well with the shrimp and crab gumbo. The only thing with the gumbo was it didn't have a lot of chunks of food like I was expecting. But still had old flavor. The shrimp and grits that came in the "Tv Dinner" was a tease. I would definitely get it as a full meal next time because it was so, so good. The crab cake in that meal was also quite a tease because it was so tasty. The food was absolutely amazing. And don't forget dessert!!!!!! The caramel bread pudding with house vanilla ice cream was literally to die for. Put me in a sugar coma it was sure sweet. Everything on the menu is wonderful but if you really want to experience the best of this gem get the TV Dinner. I asked the hostess if we could please be seated as I needed to be seated soon,and my husband was a few minutes away...was Told NO! "You can go sit over there" I was treated in the rudest way! All I can say is WOW!! And, NOT in a good way! I had heard so many good remarks about this restaurant and being a huge foodie I was excited to try it! Upon arrival I was greeted by the Hostess (Tyler) I informed her I wanted to place an order to go and she stated it would be about 20 min..not long, so I asked if I could set at the Bar and look over the menu. Her reply..."Okay, but if I get busy I'll have to kick you out" at first I thought she was kidding but, unfortunately she wasn't! I sat at the bar and Abbie (server) came right away asked if I had any questions about the menu, offered me a complimentary drink while I waited...She was spot on for a server! I placed my order at 5:44 pm .....I ordered Tempura Green Beans and Hush Puppies for my appetizers, the "TV" dinner as my entree then Bread Pudding for dessert. I am an avid diner and frequent restaurants as a hobby. As I set at the "Bar" (no alcohol available) actually just another place to set (4) diners. However, it is a BYOB...I like to embrace the vibe of the restaurant....Diners all around appeared to be happy and enjoying themselves. The dining area will accommodate roughly 50 guests total; it was about 1/2 full this early evening. The servers were extremely attentive and refilling drinks as any server should. Some had mask,(not required now, your choice) some didn't...one of the things I did notice (especially since Covid-19) was the ice scoop was kept inside the ice machine! Each server taking turns using it (without gloves) and returning it right back into the ice....Let that slide, and heres comes my order! Only a five minute wait!! I couldn't believe it! Great expediting! When I arrived home I began setting out all of my order to share with my hubby. First thing we tried was the Tempura Green Beans, have to say this was our favorite thing we ordered! They were delish and came with a yummy dipping sauce! Next, were the hushpuppies...we were not a fan..Very bland and nothing to write home about. Shrimp and Grits....again, okay but didn't knock my socks off. The Gumbo was seriously like a bowl of red bean juice with rice! Zero flavor and Zero sign of any Chicken or Sausage! Especially for Cajun food! We were not impressed! Our Crab cake came with a yummy slaw but the Crab cake smelled and tasted fishy..it was old! The salad was a standard salad with a few additives. I had requested the Shrimp and Crab Gumbo for the additional $2.00 but, it was a no show! Wasn't added to my bag. Dessert: Bread Pudding...It was very good with a caramel sauce and whipped cream...but again, it wasn't anything special...just a basic Bread Pudding. With tip, my check was a little over $44.00 for one person...this is normal for me since I do eat out a lot I don't mind paying for good food. But, this wasn't anything above and beyond! Maybe my expectations were to high for small town Boyd....Maybe the folks that are giving raving reviews aren't familiar with true Cajun food....However, from what I do read is that it was great at one point and things are going downward....Chef!! Please study your kitchen and staff...Once you have great customers and many, many acknowledgments hanging on your wall something has slipped....Would love to see/taste what all of the other customers were impressed with. Especially since I live so close; I would be a regular! It is just about fifty miles North West from Dallas and thirty miles North by North West of Fort Worth on highway 114. *Get there early!* the doors open at 4 pm. Once they run out a dish, that's it. Then you will have to pick something else until they run out of that item. **First timers get the "TV dinner" it's a bento box, kind of a sampler of great food. Do not pass up an order of their strawberry lemonade. If you still have room order the banana cream pie, and if you don't have room, order it to go. It is unbelievable! It's so good; it will make your toes curl! Have you ever had your toes curl? Well my friend, here is the place! ***Second time go with some close friends so you can share and sample some of the great dishes here! Cajun / seafood heaven meets your plate. Look back up, it's right before 4pm when the doors open, I look back and the line on a Saturday has tripled, I kid you not! The hostess asked where I wanted to be seated, now that's a no brainer, me a "foodie want to be!" Sat at the old fashion bar, it's like an old soda bar, but a great view into the kitchen (when the swinging door opens.) As the swinging door into the kitchen opens I get to see the head chef working his magic! The fantastic aromas that are coming from the kitchen are fantastic! My waiter comes over, great greet time, btw. Friendly person and suggests a strawberry lemonade (which I had already had on my radar.) They had me at my first sip of that wonderful drink! After my "TV Dinner" arrived my focus had changed as I sampled all of the different flavors from this bento box sampler. Grits and shrimp, please will you marry me, oh my! I had never had the combination before, so tasty, now I'm spoiled! Another little sampler box had a very light balsamic salad with pecans and a light feta cheese, very tasty, a nice palate cleanser. Another box had a tasty remoulade to use with the crab cake that was over a small slaw. The last cube had a small bowl of gumbo that was some of the best gumbo I've ever had! It was not overly spicy, but I do not remember seeing any okra in it! While having this fantastic dinner, the head chef comes out, Kraig Thome. He is from Boyd Texas and worked in Houston area perfecting his cooking skills. Now he is back in Boyd Texas now cooking at Gogo Gumbo! I had read about him and I introduced myself, I have a great deal of respect for great chefs. It was a big thrill to get to meet him! Nice guy, the staff says, "If he does not show up, we do not open the doors!" Now the best place to get a chance to meet him if he comes out is up at the food bar near the kitchen door. Afterwards if you have a sweet tooth, try banana cream pie, it will make your toes curl! If you decide you to full and wan it to go, tell them before hand so the can pour the sauce over the top in the to go box. Another tip: Boyd is in a dry county, so a person can bring alcohol in it's BYOB. Now my buddy's wife told me to bring back strawberry lemonade or two so she could add vodka to it. Now isn't she the smart one! That made one hell of a great drink! Now this just wasn't a meal, it was more of an adventure, and fantastic adventure! Oh my goodness! This place is fantastic! The ambiance is simple and quaint. Our server, Jaz, was the greatest. She was extremely nice and polite plus being very attentive, even though they were very busy! But the whole staff there seemed very well trained and worked together seamlessly. Now for the food, it was fantastic! All of it! We shared a bento box that came with shrimp with grits, crab cake, a cup of shrimp gumbo, a side salad and coleslaw. We also ordered a bowl of the shrimp gumbo, to share, jambalaya pasta (a large portion going home because we got too full), and seafood hushpuppies. Everything is my favorite! Have to have more than one favorite! To top it off was the bread pudding. OMG it was sinful. This has to be the best that I have ever had. It's silky smooth in texture. It's not heavy like most are. My sister and brother-in-law have been begging me to try this restaurant for a LONG time. We all headed out to Boyd yesterday for an early dinner before the crowds hit. I was told I had to try the "TV Dinner" and I wasn't disappointed. We started our meal with an order of seafood hushpuppies. The order was ample in size and came with two sauces, a remoulade and a sweet sauce. YUM! Promptly our orders came. My "TV Dinner" consisted of crab and shrimp gumbo, a crab cake over slaw, a field green salad with spiced pecans and cranberries, and shrimp and grits. Oh my, where to start, the gumbo was some of the best I've had in a long time. I did miss the okra in it. The crab cake was incredible, very lightly fried and packed full of crab meat. I couldn't eat everything there was so much shrimp in all the dishes. We all really wanted to try a dessert but were too full. Next time I visit, I just going to get a bowl of gumbo and a dessert! Boyd Texas is not right next door, BUT, driving out to gogo gumbo was well worth the drive. Great seafood place, with a small town decor and a waitstaff that makes you feel right at home. The food! Wow! Excellent seafood, and not because it's the only place around. Put this joint in downtown Dallas or FW and it would stand superior. We started with the crab wrapped beignets which were light and had the right amount of crabmeat with a savory remoulade sauce. Entrees were crab crusted tilapia, Alaskan halibut with lobster mac n cheese. And the TV Dinner (the local version of a Bento box) had all the right things including crabcakes, gumbo, shrimp n grits, and a refreshing salad. We all sampled each entree and couldn't find fault with any of them. For dessert we shared the 2die4, a pastry with cream cheese mousse, fresh fruit, lady fingers, and almond cookies. Place was packed at 8 pm on a Thursday. Holy cow. Anyway, the waiter was great. Very friendly, had good suggestions, and didn't hover. He got a big tip. The menu makes you hungry just looking at it. I picked the scallop and asparagus risotto, and my wife had the seared haddock with lobster macaroni and cheese. Turns out they were all out of the risotto, so I had to switch my order to the crab cheesecake. Sounds weird but it's REAL good. My dish was outstanding. The seared shrimp it came with were also REALLY good. My wife's fish was perfectly cooked, but we were really disappointed in the mac & cheese. In among the lobster and cheese flavors was an aftertaste of burnt candle wax. The macaroni came in a little cast iron skillet, and I suspect what happened was that the skillet was brand new and had not had the wax it comes coated with from the factory, properly removed. My family and I went to this restaurant within the last week. My family member, who lives out that way, really likes it and wanted us to go. We arrived there shortly after 4 PM as I heard it gets pretty busy and it seem to while we were there. This was mine and my husband's first time to eat there and we got the "Hot Crab Dip with Garlic Bread ," Redfish Pontchartrain," and the Jambalaya Pasta ." Also, my family got three different desserts, the "Jack Daniels Chocolate Mousse Pie," "Bread Pudding & Ice Cream ," and the "2 Die For," as we had heard about their desserts so we decided to try them. My husband got the "Jambalaya Pasta" and he said he'd give it a 3 1/2 or 4. He said it seemed like something was missing, maybe like it was just Jambalaya over noodles . He ate the "2 Die For" for a dessert and he said he'd give that a 4 1/2. He said he really enjoyed it and it was light and fruity. I ate the "Redfish Pontchartrain" and I would give that a 5 and the "Fried Green Beans" as well, I thought they both were delicious! I would not order their "Rotini Alfredo Pasta "again as I thought that did not taste very good and did not eat most of it. We both LOVED the Garlic Bread and would give that a 5. We did not really enjoy the flavor of the Hot Crab Dip and would give that a 3. My family member LOVED their "Jack Daniels Chocolate Mousse Pie" and would give it a 5. I only took one or two bites and knew i didn't like it, it was not sweet enough at all for me, but it just depends on your personal preference. It's a great alternative to going to the seafood chains. What I loved: casual, great servers, great food. I loved the crab fondue! Crab cakes are also very good. I got blackened tilapia but it didn't really have much flavor. My son got the crab encrusted tilapia and it was much better! What I don't like: You have to order everything separately. I ordered the blackened shrimp with an undressed green salad (lettuce, spiced pecans, feta) then dressed the salad with a light oil and balsamic. I have always previously gotten the TV dinner but tonight I just went ahead and ordered the shrimp and grits because that's my favorite part of the bento box. The crab cakes were delicious, especially with the aioli they were served with. My husband had the "tv dinner" that he really enjoyed and said he would be ordering it again. The building is a bit older. Kind of rustic décor. The staff was friendly. It is a little pricey but not terrible. A bit of variety in the music would be nice. Seemed to play the same song over and over. The gumbo was OK, key lime pie was OK, and the blackened chicken was OK. Did not use the restroom so I don't know about that. There was a large group waiting for a table but we were seated immediately. We visited mid-week so it was probably less busy that night. We live near by probably won't return. What an amazing treat in a cute, little tucked away spot! I told my hubby that I felt like we discovered "Radiator Springs" from Cars the movie! Gogo Gumbo has been one of our favorite restaurants since they opened in 2008. When I was working full time we ate here nearly every week. I think we've tried nearly everything on the menu. I've been to numerous cooking classes and learned to make one of my all time favorite salads, Gogo salad with field greens, cranberries, pecans and feta cheese and the best balsamic vinaigrette. I learned to make no fail custard, wonderful crab cakes and more. Since I cook so much of my own food now that I'm retired from my full time job, our visits to Gogo have slowed down. Tonight was the first time we've been in a while. Steve's chicken and sausage gumbo was just right. They have outstanding Gumbo, by the way. I ordered the naked poblano crab and shrimp relleno. It was served with a corn cake and tomatillo sauce. I really enjoyed this dish a lot. The filling for the relleno was creamy and complimented the mildly spicy poblano pepper. The tomatillo sauce was also excellent. Steve's fettuccine alfredo with blackened chicken was creamy, but a little lacking in flavor. The best part of the evening, however was dessert. I ordered my all time favorite chocolate pecan tart. The crust is crispy, the chocolate rich and the vanilla ice cream and sauce compliment the rich tart. We also received a complimentary dish of dark chocolate salted caramel ice cream. I boxed up half my dinner to eat for lunch tomorrow and I really want to come back again soon for the Beef Wellington special. I encourage you to head out to Boyd for dinner and enjoy this local treasure. Returned for dinner tonight. Steve ordered the go go salad with blackened shrimp and loved it. I ordered a side of rice, veggies and spinach. Initially I was told I couldn't have a side of spinach because it was not on the "sides" menu anymore. I thought about ordering the salmon plate which has spinach, hold the salmon, but didn't. I had to speak to two waiters and the hostess about it until it was elevated to the owner. She came out and said would arrange for me to have it even though it's not on the "sides" menu. All this hassle for something was pretty frustrating. The restaurant was not busy at all.
