These guys are the best! It took me a couple of years to find a roaster and blend that both my dad and I like, but these guys fit the bill. I have been buying, drinking, and enjoying their bird friendly, superbly roasted, coffee for a couple of years now. The thing about Gold Country that has impressed me the most is their attention to detail and their unparalleled customer service. If I ever have any problem with an order or the website or anything they go out of their way to help me resolve the issue. The five stars live up to the experience! The staff makes sure to satisfy the customers even if they have to go out of their way. Tried the Kenyan roast, and it's brewed to perfection. They have very good prices when you buy by the pound. The place inside is very neatly decorated and kept clean and hospitable. My wife calls me a Coffee Snob. I roast my own coffee and usually find gas station or deli coffee undrinkable. I usually only go to specialty coffee shops and even then am often not really satisfied with the coffee. Coffee begins going stale just 10 - 14 days after it is roasted and I suspect that your typical coffee shops coffee is older than that. But these people roast their own. I got one of the house coffees, a yirgacheffe, and it was excellent. Though I roast my own, I just don't have the control of the roast that is possible with professional roasting equipment. The flavor, in addition to being fresh, was more defined than I am able to accomplish. They are a bit lacking in the pastry department (what they have is very good, but just not much of a selection) but the only other place I've had coffee than can compare is in Cambria...another place that roasts on premises. It's a coffee place that serves exceptional coffee with a smile. They get 5 stars. read more

We walked in looking to get a good cup of coffee in the afternoon on 4th of July. We had spent a wonderful day exploring Murphy's with our dog. She was welcomed everywhere we had been including Murphy's grill and Hovey winery. The owner kicked us out. She said "unless that dog is a service dog and I can see the papers, get out'". Gladly! Business owners with bad manners don't get my business or my recommendation. Please get your coffee elsewhere. This business owner doesn't know how to treat people! Hi Lisa, Thanks for the response. However you are incorrect. The way your employee handled herself was very unfriendly. Furthermore other dog friendly establishments have advised asking to see a service dog's papers is a "no no". Gold Country Roasters has been a name for fine coffee in the central sierra foothills and highway 4 corridor for decades! Recently, the business was purchased and reopened in a new location just down the street from it's original location on the three way intersection downtown Murphys, CA. The local ladies who bought the business have reopened it are very wonderful people! I enjoy seeing them often and being greeted at a cafe by first name by people I actually know and enjoy. I like to do business with those I know when I can. Often I do my own business while at the cafe, even inspired to be creative and produce music while here as well! The coffee here is excellent! Their roasted beans are top quality! However, the ambience and atmosphere of this place is second to none! Southern facing windows practically floor to ceiling let the light of day and beautiful mountain sky in. Other windows throughout the space allow you to see outside from all but one angle and its feels so open as if you are even outside! This will especially be beneficial in the winter months when I don't want to be outside, but I don't want to be inside either ; ) Support local independent small business and preserve the American dream! read more

Since my sisters and I went for our cabin trip, Murphy's was the closest town to get service and society. Haha. I was in dire need of coffee since I drove the entire time and we came here. This place was cute and very welcoming! A little hidden in the back, but still had a lot of foot traffic. I ordered the iced chai tea latte with soy milk and it tasted like Turn Around Coffee House from Sacramento. YUM! So, I was definitely feeling this place! My sister ordered mocha cookie crumble, which she also enjoyed, and my other two sisters ordered the iced caramel coffee. They, too, enjoyed it! If I ever come back to this small little town and in need of coffee, I will be coming here! read more

Coffee was great. Service was great. Only one thing, the guy working on the coffee roaster machine vacuuming and using bare habd to clean the vacuum filter, i thought that was kinda dirty, he wash his hands but didnt not use soap, as i was observing bim, and he went straight to working on the coffee beans and bagging them and weighing them. I was looking at his fingers, were dirty from dust under his finer nails. I was thinking of buying a bag to take home, but after i saw this person poor hygiene, i changed my mind. read more

The view of the actual coffee roasting machine up and running was awesome, and the smell of fresh roasting coffee beans is an unbelievable experience. Like a lot of people, the proprietors here must think that the darker roasts need less coffee in the brew. That would explain the weak French roast. The Guatemalan was better, but tasted a bit burnt.
