    Appetizer - Tempura Sesame Cauliflower

I like Gold Cup Wine Bar for what it is: a quick-ish dinner that is slightly less pricey than Harriman's for guests staying at Salamander. There are "hit's" and "misses." We really enjoyed the pecan fried shrimp and mussels, but the tempura shrimp was mushy and apple pie sundae didn't seem terribly impressive for what was described. Service was decent. We didn't enjoy the gnats that kept flying around during our dinner. We also didn't enjoy the $65 charge for Prosecco that we saw on the menu as $24. Salamander is one of the few restaurants I know that write pricing on their menu as by the ounce versus by the glass then bottle; they wrote $14/$24. I'm closing with: you get what you get

This restaurant is in the Salamander resort. Service is fantastic and Manuel our server was excellent. Definitely provided 5 star service. The food was excellent and tasty. The ambiance and view from the restaurant is peaceful and beautiful. The place is very clean. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is for the price the quantity is pitiful. $41 for two small lamp chops, $25 for 6 pieces of chicken wings, $19 for a mocktail. Even for a 5 star resort that is a bit too much. For me and my wife 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 1 soda and 1 glass of wine cost $135. The food was good but nothing spectacular or memorable for me to come back and pay that price again.

Great location obviously, not good food or drinks. Plan ahead and get a reservation at Harriman's. 1. Reservation: won't hurt, you can always walk in. 2. Big bar area, decent drinks, but not all good 3. Food: 3 stars at best For such a nice place, they could really up their quality and taste especially for the price they charge. - cheese and charcuterie board: 2 stars. meat pate thing was horrible. totally not edible with funny smell. Our waitress fully agreed, still did not change it or solve it. The usual brie and goat cheese were fine and they have this god-awful cheese. I didn't think it would be possible for me to hate cheese as I love all of them, but they found a horrible thing here. WORST CHEESE ever can be found here. - ahi poke: is okay but the thick and super hard wonton it came with was horrible. How do they think this hard thing goes well with tuna that was practically melting in mouth? We only went this far, it was so bad, we decided to have entrée elsewhere. 4. Ambience: super dark inside. But i always loved it. Bright and hot outside. Won't hurt to bring bug spray as they don't have any. All in all, eat at the other restaurant that is a few steps away and 1 tree away if you're sitting outside. World of difference in quality of food and service.

Not bad but I'd suggest maybe trying a restaurant in old town Middleburg if you're staying at the salamander! Had lunch here and it wasn't amazing but wasn't bad. Burrata was good

Excellent food, wine, and service in a beautiful yet casual setting. Pianist played in the background the evening we were there.

Salamander An extremely classy gem hidden within the Salamander Resort. In a handful of visits I've been consistently impressed by the quality of the food. They have wonderful, shareable appetizers and their entrees evidence a high level of talent in the kitchen. The red meat dishes came out perfectly cooked and they always have a selection of seafood dishes on hand. The service has been consistently good showing an attention to detail in their hiring as well as their food. But the best thing about this place is the beautiful decor and ambiance. They have beautiful indoor seating, a wonderful deck if you prefer outdoor seating, and even "formal living room" style seating options in an adjoining room which is perfect for after dinner chats with a group of friends. One of the best date night destinations in NOVA for sure. My favorite time to come is for lunch during a nice day where you can opt to take a walk after your meal. They have acres of beautiful grounds with a number of areas to sit and talk with your date or with a group of friends.

The two dashing bartenders Daniel and Jacob were very engaging and delightful to be around. All the qualities a bartender should have! A few days prior I spoke with Diane, one of the nicest supervisors I've encountered, about her recommendations for dishes to try, and she could not have been more spot on! Will definitely have to come back for sure.

My husband and I spent a delightful afternoon with friends at Greenhill Vineyards in Middleburg,…read moreand from the moment we arrived, everything was a perfect 5-star experience. First, a shoutout to our wine server, Hannah, who was absolutely fantastic. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the wines without ever making us feel like we needed a sommelier certification to enjoy them. She guided us through the $20 tasting, which included a wonderful mix of whites and reds. It worked out perfectly because I'm a white wine fan while my husband prefers reds, so naturally we shared every pour and declared ourselves a two-person tasting committee. Now let's talk about the food. The truffle popcorn should probably come with a warning label because it is highly addictive. We kept saying "just one more handful" until the bowl mysteriously emptied itself. The fresh baguette with pimento dip was equally delicious and paired beautifully with the wines. The winery offers plenty of seating options, whether you prefer lounging on the grass, relaxing indoors, or enjoying the covered patio. We chose the covered patio, which provided the perfect balance of fresh air, vineyard views, and shade. And yes, I'm actually going to mention the bathrooms. They were some of the nicest winery restrooms I've encountered--modern, spotless, stylish, and clearly well-maintained. It's one of those little details that says a lot about the overall experience. Great wine, delicious food, beautiful setting, immaculate facilities, and outstanding service from Hannah. Greenhill Vineyards has earned every one of these five stars. We'll definitely be back for another "research trip" in the near future.

We came here first before heading to brunch and a second winery, and honestly, it set the tone for the entire day. The grounds are absolutely beautiful--peaceful, scenic, and everything you want when you're trying to escape the city for a bit. The wine selection is solid, and everything we tried was smooth, well-balanced, and easy to enjoy with friends. It's the kind of place where you can actually relax, take your time, and be present. What I love most about Greenhill is the vibe--it feels elevated without being pretentious. Just good wine, great views, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer. If you're planning a Middleburg wine day, start here. You won't regret it.

The fact that their Library Tasting experience is just 1 of 6 experiences they offer is insane (amazing). You can even customize your experience to mix and match. I prefer sweeter wine and was a little nervous learning they didn't have any, but when I tell you every wine I tried was perfect, I really didn't need a sweet wine. A lot of the time, when you hear 'dry' you assume a wine might not be smooth or but their wines are smooth, balanced, and excellent quality. I tried wine that had fruit forward profiles, like their Crémant 2024, Sauvignon Blanc 2020, and Rosé 2020. The food was also so good! Like I said, I would have taken seconds if that was allowed . Also, the communication prior and service was excellent. Erin (the GM) and Hannah were so awesome and knowledgeable. It's also nice to know you can fine their wine locally at King Street Oyster Bar and a few other spots. Perfect for celebrations or just wanting to get together. I was trying to figure out how they knew it was my birthday recently but I forgot I casually mentioned it while talking to the GM as I was trying to figure out a date that would be great to come. But seriously 10/10, highly recommend it!

Omg so many thoughts on this experience…read more I'm so glad i didn't immediately know it was a restaurant located in a hotel. This prob would have deterred me, even a little bit. The Apple map directions here confused me a little due to this, but parking was really plentiful so that's a huge plus! I went on a Sunday morning and lo and behold there was a hole farmers market or pop up set up all through haymarket! Busy weekend for a brunch but haymarket is SUCH a cute little vibe and town with so many hidden gems, like this one!! Literally every single item I saw waiters bring out from the kitchen looked so scrumptious, every person around us immediately began digging in and enjoying their meals...and honestly, no crumbs were left behind pretty much every time. We started ordering a yummy cocktail. I was really in the mood for the Paloma with grapefruit juice but sadly they were out of grapefruit juice fortunately, they had plenty cocktails available that were not explicitly on the menu! I ended up having a delicious espresso martini, prepared, right and honestly, I would have had another!! Not too sweet. Not creamy. And with 3 beans. Impeccable no notes. I ordered the red House breakfast. Man those home potatoes were so delicious....they clearly cooked them seasoned deliciously and then flash fried, so crunchy!!!! Amazing. I found that their execution on their meals was really impressive. My sunny side up eggs were cooked perfectly and paired so yummy with the toast. The bacon had delicious flavor too. I ordered a biscuit because I had heard that their biscuits were really yummy but unfortunately they did not have their bacon biscuit so it was just a classic biscuit. It was good, certainly dense and clearly homemade. My girlfriend got the poutine. Looked so delicious and was really enjoyed! The gravy was thick and flavorful! We sat down and enjoyed plenty of conversation and a really nice environment. Nobody rushed us, service was just the right amount of attentive without interrupting conversation constantly, and the floor to ceiling windows let in beautiful natural light and views of the town. It was the perfect brunch spot for a low-key, but delicious meal. Just a hair out of the way without being too far. I came out with a really good friend of mine to celebrate my one year wedding anniversary with her and it was the perfect possible location. Shout out to the staff for being so welcoming and kind, and even taking a picture of us when we asked to commemorate the occasion. We saw pictures of the Escelon and it looked like the perfect ambiance for us. We were mistaken and we should NOT have come here. The five us chose to do the $50 restaurant week course with the added $25 wine pairings. When we saw that the line up came with a sweet wine, we politely asked the server if there was any way to switch that specific pour for another wine. She immediately said it was "not possible". The wine sat there untouched. Mind you, we had purchased a full bottle for the table along with the added wine pairings. It was a simple modification for 3 OUNCE pours. Ridiculous. The pours were also inconsistent. The first two courses and wine pairings were exceptional and delicious. As was our appetizer and bottle of wine. When it came to the last course, the dessert. It really left a bad taste in our mouths. The crème brûlée looked like scrambled eggs. It was runny and lumpy. It looked more like cottage cheese than a custard. Like the sweet wine, we all left it untouched. We explained our grievances to the server and she said that she would not tell the chef because he was "sensitive" and she was too afraid of him. As a former server myself, I couldn't help but be upset. When it comes to customer service, your job is to have your guests leave happy and wanting to come back.
