Came again for lunch today and enjoyed it as well. The menu seemed similar to dinner and there was hot dogs which wasn't that salty so you can add condiments. I liked the fresh burgers and tater tots. They usually have 4 soups and one of them was replaced by chicken noodle soup today which my kids really liked. The clam chowder and chicken noodle soup are my favorite out of the 4. We had a nice waiter today which came often to check how we're doing and if we needed anything. The prices did seem to go up.

The Golden Corral always hits the spot, especially for Thanksgiving! Imagine not haven't to spend hours cooking and then cleaning up the mess after words. The turkey is good, the mash taters, stuffing, cranberry sauce and sweet potato casserole is all excellent. You can't go wrong with a Thanksgiving feast here!

Stopped by here during a weekend trip to Hershey Park/ Shady Maple Smorgasbord, the largest buffet in the US. Though the food was simple and homey here, the taste was much more diverse and refined than Shady Maple Smorgasboard. Price was also better. If you go here for dinner, try the steak dishes which are cooked tender and seasoned well. Salad bar is clean and stocked with fresh veggies. Be sure to also try the tacos; they're really good!

I've been to Golden Corral and Golden Corral-type places around the country over the years. Some have issues with running out of food. Some have issues with service. I would say that this is one of the better Golden Corrals. We've been here probably five times, and the service has been excellent for 4 of the visits and good (with a little prodding) for one. With regard to food, I love fresh salad, and this place has fresh produce and a good variety of salad fixin's and dressings. Even the cucumbers, which at some buffets are frozen or soggy, have been consistently good here. The other foods, including the fried foods, cooked vegis (Brussels sprouts, carrots, cabbage, green beans, etc), mashed potatoes, etc are uniformly good. They aren't stingy with the carved roast beef or steak stations here (a complaint I hear at some other Golden Corral) and the cakes and pies are really good. As far as ambience, it's a nice room, but yes it's crowded and the tables are fairly close together. But we have never felt rushed/pushed and, as I said, they usually are pretty good with filling water glasses and clearing plates. People have been pretty polite at the tables and at the food bars. But, yes, it does get crowded at times! If you get their app, you can get points for each visit and I have to say that I've used those points to save $10 from time to time. So definitely consider that. Look, I know it's a buffet, but the service is good and there is a good selection of salads. hot and cold foods, desserts and more. The price can't be beat. 5 stars. Oh my gosh - and the fried chicken is great!

They have some small decorations here and there throughout the changing season but not much that take spaces. The temperature inside dining area always warm and warmer, which is comfortable, except if you need a restroom check, it's always cold there. The restrooms also clean most of the time. The buffet food area are the amazing part! They, the restaurant, always check on each food containers and refill anything that's looking less full than the container. All food are served hot, warm cool or cold as they supposedly serve and most importantly all are fresh food from the kitchen. The hibachi part also an amazing addition for the buffet, they can cook mostly anything and taste delicious. The sushi part also has a lot of options and all plates always filled with ready to eat sushi. Lunch and dinner menus are different, more premium food are available during dinner time, like coconut shrimps, seafoods from crawfish - crabs - muscles - oysters also steaks and prime ribs. Never had those last western food, as always looked overcooked at some point. But the most popular is the ice creams selection, mostly are Hersheys in single serving. All ice cream must be consumed dine-in. Overall this is a recommended buffet place, with wide selection of salads - western foods - asian foods - fries - fruits and desserts! #flaminggrillandbuffet #frederickmd #preservefootprints

A buffet should have fresh, hot food readily available, and that was not the case here. In addition, the lack of attention to maintaining proper food temperatures made it seem like items had been sitting out for too long. I had higher expectations, especially for a buffet setting. Unfortunately, due to this experience, I will not be coming back again. I hope the restaurant can improve by ensuring food is consistently fresh and served at the proper temperature.

Our server was knowledgeable and professional. She welcomed us, explained the menu and quickly brought brought water and lemons for the water. She was fantastic throughout the meal and made our experience wonderful. We ordered French onion soup and a "special" of fried green tomatoes for our appetizers. Complimentary, fresh, warm, honey-wheat bread with both regular and cinnamon sugar butters, was brought to the table. The bread had a very nice texture. The French onion soup was very delicious and not too sweet! It was perfectly balanced. The fried green tomatoes were fresh and the breading was perfectly crispy. However the "seasoning" was in the mildly spicy remoulade, which was served on the side. We also ordered a broiled seafood platter with sides of broccoli and twice baked potato. The hubs ordered char-grilled pork chops, grilled asparagus, and potato au gratin. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasty. We really enjoyed everything. Regarding ambiance, the dining room looks a bit formal with its white table cloth and dim lighting. However, everyone dressed casually - jeans, shorts, etc. This made for a very relaxed atmosphere. But..... Ultimately, and in spite of all the good, I will deduct one star simply because I believe the entire menu is overpriced.

Her verdict: Modern Asia's was "OK", and she told me I could eat the leftovers for my lunch. I did. My verdict was the same: OK, but nothing to write home to Mother about. (My comparison, BTW, is to a restaurant we enjoyed in Ithaca New York that made Kung Pao with peppers that would flay your face from the inside if you dared to eat one. Modern Asia's didn't even tickle, making it a let down). I ordered Seafood Combination Chinese Yellow Curry, a new dish for me. It was yummy. Described as one-pepper spicy on the menu, it had less heat than the Kung Pao, but the curry sauce had layers of flavor. It featured shrimp, scallops, and calmari plus a wonderful mix of peppers, onions, and other veg. All were nicely (crisply) cooked, even taking into account the Door Dash delivery time. I really enjoyed it. Next time I may ask for a bit more heat, but as it is, I hoovered up every morsel. Try it - you'll like it!

We ordered a bit of everything from the standard and kids' menus. Our favorites were the pulled pork tacos, the flounder sandwich (my personal favorite), and the from-scratch mac and cheese. I would eat a pint of that mac and cheese if I could. A note, however, 1/3 of the kids found the addition of cracked pepper in the mac and cheese "too spicy." I am from Eastern NC, so I have a pretty good idea of bbq and BC staples. I decided to try the flounder rather than the bbq this time. The founder was disappointing. It was a bit on the bland side and the batter is a little confusing. I was expecting a cornmeal style batter or similar, but got something different. The fish itself had potential to be very good. The beans also left a lot to be desired, just lacked flavor and taste. The business looks like they do a lot of catering as opposed to dining (possible a lot of to go orders, too).

TLDR: tired place, tired food, tired service…read more.. Favorite Oldest Grand Daughter (FOGD) was working yesterday so missed family Thanksgiving. I took her out for lunch to help make up for the missed turkey (take that any way you want, sports fans). I gave her a choice of sushi or Indian buffet; she chose Taj Mahal. Taj has been around for many years but somehow I've missed it. I heard it has a nice buffet (a decent value for $19 at lunch). When we arrived there were very few patrons so server said we had our pick of seats. We sat at a booth near the bar, near the buffet. Seats were ratty but in better shape than other booths. We grabbed plates at the bar and went for food - which was really tired and dried out even though it was was well before lunchtime ended. Server said she would bring pans of rice, butter chicken, saag, and naan so we tried what was available. Samosas were cold inside but filling was tasty; chickpeas that came with it were really good but again, cold. Onion pakoras were great, but some chutneys would have been nice. Goat curry was tasty, dry-spiced potatoes were good and had enough heat to make them interesting, but everything else was middle-of-then-road. When the fresh dishes came out we replaced out plates and tried again. Butter chicken and saag were really, really good, rice was really crunchy (undercooked) and quickly dried out under the warming lamps, and naan was good when very fresh but quickly got crunchy. We did not go back for more and skipped the salad/dessert choices. Frederick has a bunch of really good Indian (and Pakistani and Afghani) restaurants (mmmmm, Mint Room, Tulip Grill, and Mayako) so I would not put Taj Mahal anywhere the top of my list of similar places.

For appetizers, we ordered the dried dumplings ($7.50 for 6 pieces) and the sweet pork buns ($5 for 2). They were both delightful. The dumplings were pleasantly chewy, with the best crunch on the bottom. They were huge and seasoned very well. The buns were soft and pillowy, with a nice amount of meat in them. They could have been seasoned a little more, but some hot mustard really made them amazing. For our meals, we decided to order the dinner combo ($12.50). It comes with an egg roll, plain fried rice, and your entree of choice. I got orange chicken and they got Hunan chicken. Both meals were absolutely amazing, with fantastic portions. It was seasoned perfectly, and the orange chicken was crispy to the point of having an audible crunch. There were even real orange peels in the sauce! We both had leftovers to bring home and were completely full. The meal ended with fortune cookies, and a complimentary strawberry mousse. It was light, and perfectly sweet to end the meal. The service at the restaurant itself was lovely. No one was constantly over our shoulder, but our drinks stayed full and the food came out hot and quickly. The restaurant was quiet, and comfortable. I would absolutely recommend anyone in Frederick to try this place! (As you can see from some of the photos, I got a little too excited and dug in before taking photos!)
