GC is my go to for rolls for Thanksgiving. My MIL bakes Pillsbury flakey rolls but I have to have GC's buttery, honey rolls for my Honey Baked Ham. Yum. The food is plentiful to say the least and on any given day can range from edible to sweet tasty and delicious. It is one of the few places I've eaten at that I can say is worth the price paid. The steak depending on the particular piece you're getting and how it's cooked can be up there with the best ever or you can struggle chewing it and just throw it away. We are not food snobs and we have eaten at many Golden Corrals but we were very disappointed when we arrived for the breakfast buffet here. There were very limited choices for breakfast and there were more lunch foods on the buffet than breakfast. We were the first customers at 9 am and the lunch food was prepared and sitting under the warmers before the pancakes and French toast were made. When our waitress tried to help The cook, he yelled at the waitress to leave him alone. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Our waitress Alisha was the only reason I left two stars. I would have given her 5 stars! She was kind and had a beautiful smile and checked on us often. She is the kind of employee you hold on to. Every time I go to this place I try to like it but it just gets worse and worse. This last time tried out their breakfast. Everything was cold! No juice for the kids available, just fruit punch and lemonade. Sausage Pattie's were dry as hell. The eggs were not appealing at all. And the potato hash/casserole thing was not made well either. If you were thinking about enjoying your coffee, absolutely not. The sausage links were good and the French toast was ok. Biscuits were good. But man. Very limited selection. I went for years and wouldn't even consider going to a Golden Corral. I was definitely being a food snob when it came to even thinking about trying it. I just assumed that it was your typical garbage. Then one time while we were traveling, we stopped in Tennessee in the Dollywood area to stay overnight. There was some gorgeous parks in the area so we decided to stay a couple of days. Our hotel was right next to a Golden Corral. So for some reason we ended up eating there. I was completely blown away by the quality of the food. It was astronomically better than I expected it to be. Homemade pot roast cooked the way it's supposed to be. The fried chicken was delicious. Shrimp was cooked to perfection. the mashed potatoes were real potatoes that have proper seasoning and flavor. Vegetables were fresh and delicious. Tremendous salad bar. I was in shock! For the money, it was honestly one of the best deals I have ever experienced to this day for food. Yeah I know what fine dining is. I have eaten in some of the finest restaurants in this country and Europe. This is not fine dining. But it's not supposed to be either. This is just good ol Sunday afternoon at Grandma's, southern American fare. That is if it is cooked correctly. And that brings us to this place. You couldn't butcher this food any worse if you tried! Unless you are fortunate enough to eat here on a day where they change the cooking oil, it is very common to taste the rancidity and burnt flavor of the oil. The chicken is horrifically, and I mean HORRIFICALLY overcooked consistently. And it's so sad. The corporation behind this organization really has their head together. Based on my foodie prejudices, I can't believe I'm saying that. But I have experienced it firsthand in a properly run place. No kidding folks, the food at Golden Corral can be really, really good if you're looking for just some good ol elbows on the table American fare. The fried chicken recipe is delicious. The breading is really excellent. But it is so consistently over cooked here that the meat literally splits from being overheated. And this brined chicken, that is so juicy and delicious when it's cooked properly, literally becomes a nightmare. It's not once, twice, or three times that this happens. Every freaking time...every freaking day. As I'm writing this I'm sitting at the table in the restaurant having come here for the New York steak special. Please see the picture I posted of the New York strip. It must have literally been cooked to 175 to 180 degrees. The exact same thing happened last weekend as well. And it's a very good piece of meat. Is this 40 day aged prime beef? Of course it's not. But it is perfectly good choice beef. I would imagine a whole cryovac version of this New York steak would set you back $150 or so from the store. It's like whoever's cooking these things are literally brain-dead stupid. I mean, you're not a cook. Just because you're cooking, doesn't make you a cook. A real cook makes good food. A real cook has pride. I real cook has standards. A real cook knows how to use a timer and a thermometer. A real cook gives a crap! I can only assume they're paying these people minimum wage and they're just hiring anybody that's ever cooked anything in their life. It is literally a sin what they do to what is relatively good food. This place could be so much better if they just hired quality cooks. No disrespect to the people cooking here. I hope you're all great people. But you do not know how to cook! You need proper training. And you're definitely not getting in here. The staff is nice and friendly. The waiters and waitresses are consistently attentive. The kids sticking their fingers in the chocolate fountain is a nightmare. But other than that, this is exactly what it ought to be for its genre. But the cooks! They're not. And it is literally ruining this place! Go down south and eat at one of these if you ever have the opportunity. It's perhaps the best food you will ever eat in your life for the money. If there is a regional manager who reads this - what in the world is wrong with you? And hey corporate management - just because a franchise is making you money, doesn't mean it's not ruining your brand! The only reason I came back here after I swore to never return was because my sister's boyfriend had never been. I did warn him before we went. Even he was disappointed. This place is a joke. First and last time visiting this location!!! Poor customer service No fresh food, no variety, kids only have the option to eat Mac and cheese or bread everything else was empty!!! There was not a single item ready and it was 1:00pm on a Sunday. We paid around $ 61 dollars for 2 adults and 2 kids to eat mashed potatoes with bourbon chicken and fried shrimp because that's was the only meat available. I am a GrubHub driver. probably one of the more patient people you could ever meet. i am also very respectful of every person i come across. this includes people in the food industry, as i have had many jobs in restaurants. i pretty much consider GrubHub drivers and restaurant workers to be in it together. this is why when I got to golden corral, I politely told the host that I was here to pick up an order. she started off by rudely telling me "we are working on that order right now, you can sit over there." so i did. patiently. as i always do. 10-15 minutes passed, and i stood up and observed what was going on. I got there at 1:15 in the afternoon. a slow time of day in restaurants. there were many workers there, just stranding around. staring at me, smirking at me. i have now been in the restaurant waiting for 32 minutes. there is one person working on my order. the host. no one is helping her. again, this is a buffet, so most of the food is always ready and prepared. this is nothing short of the workers being generally terrible to other human beings, for no reason at all. that is the kind of service you can expect when coming to this restaurant. if I could rate it 0 stars, I would. We went to Golden Corral Saturday night 2/25 for dinner. Like everywhere else, it's gotten quite expensive and then add $3.99 for a drink so we choose water. We paid, took a table but my husband sat there to wait for staff to take our drink orders and silverware. We all got our food, more than 10 min has passed since we sat down with food, still no drinks or silverware! We asked 2 workers who both said it was not their table and would not help us. After we were there 15 minutes with our food, my husband was finally able to get the manager to talk to him. The food bar was fairly empty for 6:00, deserts looked like someone was playing in the pudding or whatever it was. We did not receive drink refills nor did anyone take our used plates. Very unpleasant experience. Over $56. For a meal and felt like we had to beg to get simple service like drinks and something to eat with. I can see why so many talk trash about the corral but I happy went for seconds of the fried chicken and 'awesome Meatloaf!' Avoid this location. Restaurant is dirty, service is non-existent. Many of the food selections on the hot food bars were cold and in general the food bars are not attended. Food on the bars were crusty and in need of being stirred or replaced. The manager of the location sits on the counter visiting with employees. Dirty dishes on tables everywhere. The worst part is you have to wait for a "server" to bring you silverware. Because service is non-existent you have to wait a long time to get silverware. If you decide to brave it and patronize this location. Do not, do not go into the restrooms. I complained to Golden Corral corporate about my experience and have had no response. The ambience was awful. Extremely bright white light makes it feel hospital like, but the environment was anything but sterile. The tables were dirty and there was trash all over the floor. The food didn't fare any better. The serving area was crusted with dried viscera, and visibly burnt to the side of the serving dish. Unsurprisingly, the food was dry and burnt while simultaneously being undercooked at the time. If you can find freshly prepared food, it tastes pretty alright; standard buffet fare. I would suggest the bread pudding which I actually enjoyed. GC used to be our go-to choice for an affordable family dinner out. At $15 a plate, we can no longer say this is affordable. Thus, the food had better be good. Guess what? The food was just ok, and some side dishes tasted funny. Rolls were overdone, routinely. So, some issues were systematic, and not flukes. The restaurant was unclean, with garbage on the floor at spots. And there was absolutely no pride in presentation. The salad was generally of good quality, and the ingredients looked fresh, but the salad alone cannot justify the $15 price tag. For the money, you can do better, GC. I've heard so many bad reviews about this place but me and my husband decided to just go in and try it. It was amazing the server was attentive and super sweet. The food was good but the dessert was top tier. The pecan pie was amazing and perfectly made and the peach cobbler actually made my husband tear up a bit it was funny. Well long story short, my husband had BBQ chicken was so bland and GROSS with mold on it. We paid $100 at the door just to eat this disgusting food. Never again.
