I was in there every day for a while, getting breakfast and lunch grab and go. I'm on the road all day all over Williamsburg. That's about $15-20 a day at nearly $600 a month of revenue any smart business person would appreciate, especially in the off-season. But I guess I'll never come back here again. I'll just continue going to fresh market and Harris Teeter. They are limited on their salad bar and hot bar but at least I won't get a disgusting attitude from a miserable looking cook. Friday night. The place was moderately busy but the service was above average for a buffet. The food was hot and fresh. Everything tasted great. This was the best GC I have dined at in years. Two of us stopped for a late breakfast buffet (or early lunch?) around 10:30 am on a Friday. We were traveling between Virginia Beach and central Virginia, and were familiar with this Golden Corral as our daughter graduated from W&M in Williamsburg. Food. We enjoyed a nice assortment of breakfast items. Favorite breakfast items included warm buns with sausage gravy (good), mini-waffles with syrupy strawberries and blueberries (good, but would be better with fresh fruit), sautéed mushrooms, onions, and peppers (watery, under-spiced), sausage patties (dried out) and bacon (good, crisp), fresh cantaloupe (food), and orange juice (good, undiluted). *Many different juices were available, including apple, orange, cranberry, and more. These were tasty, and were not diluted. *Drinks were included with the fee upon entrance. My husband ordered coffee; I got hot tea. These were served with creamer; sugar and Equal were on the table. *The plentiful salad bar, and desserts, were available throughout the breakfast service. We each enjoyed a salad, and my husband liked a banana pudding for dessert. Lunch service began around 11 am, and lunch items started to replace breakfast items on the breakfast bar. We tasted the bourbon chicken (good) and corn on cob (water-logged). Ambiance. The food stations stayed well-stocked, and the restaurant was clean and relatively empty. Our waitress brought our drinks, and dropped by once to see if we needed refills. She was nice enough, but not particularly attentive or friendly. Parking was plentiful, free, and relatively easy to access from the Bypass Road. A final note. The restaurant's website mentioned an omelet bar for cooked-to-order eggs, as well as chocolate-dipped strawberry slices. We didn't see either. Price. Our receipt shows that we paid $27.73 for two senior breakfasts, including tax but before tip. ($12.49 x 2, plus $2.75 tax). The workers were a little bit unorganized and loud. This is definitely a buffet! There is a lot of food options from pizza, to fish! The place is nice for what it is. Lots of seats!! Delicious Southern-styled cooking, friendly staff and a true bargain. My wife and I (Baby Boomers) eat here 2-3 times/month and would do it more often if we weren't careful about our weight! The pot roast, gravy, and mashed potatoes are to die for, as are the collard greens, green beans and baked beans. The pies, cakes and puddings are wonderful. Sundays after church many folks show up dressed in their Sunday best, which puts a nice glow on the experience. Five stars. read more

I like this Golden Corral location. My parents took me here as a child and the staff were always friendly towards us and I thought the food was decent. Golden Corral is about variety and is solid for the price. I preferred it over other buffet chains like Ryans back in the day. Now they seem to be the only one around. I do not stop in Golden Corral too often because I rarely indulge in buffets aside from Peking or Western Sizzlin' all the way in Maryland, but I have made it a personal tradition to go to Golden Corral for their breakfast buffet after my bloodwork appointments. Anyway, they are in the process of renovating this location and look to be done with the interior, but currently still working on the exterior and parking lot. The new interior is much brighter and more open than the previous look, and the buffet is organized in a more condensed way without the separate salad bar and such. Temperatures on the buffet all were kept well, which is expected given the brand new equipment. The whole building was impressively clean, something I do not remember it being when I was younger. They use glass plates now, too. Fancy! During my last visit, I was one of the few people in there, I suppose since it was almost 9 in the morning on a Monday. With that said, they kept the buffet surprisingly fresh with staff members checking the food and changing out items that had been sitting. I only really go for the breakfast buffet, so I am largely basing my comments after that. I have been to the lunch and dinner buffets many times, just not for a couple years. Nonetheless, I always thought the quality and variety was comparable. I shall update my review whenever I go back for anything other than breakfast. I pass by and sometimes their shrimp special interests me, for example. They do the classic breakfast staples like waffles, pancakes, french toast, grits, hash browns, eggs, sausage, and so forth well. They had a few varieties such as strawberry waffles and blueberry pancakes, which were a nice touch. There is fruit and a large array of sweets and desserts, among other things. Everything ranged from fine to good, at least in my opinion. The only thing I did not like was this beef thing that was quite dry and overcooked. On the other hand, the breakfast pizza was far better than it needed to be. The service was friendly last time I was there and it is obvious that they have regular customers who have a friendly relationship with the staff. It was hard to not be attentive to me because I was the only one in the immediate section, but they were nice. Not sure why this place gets so much flak, but I managed two visits during my recent trip (both for dinner) and generally speaking the experience was very positive across the board. First off this is a Golden Corral, so let's make sure we write about it in the context of that. This is not a Michelin restaurant. It's a place where you can eat as much (mostly) unhealthy food as you'd like for dirt cheap prices ($14.99 for dinner for adults, if you don't use one of the many readily available coupons that can basically get you a free drink). With that in mind, this place was just fine. I was here during two very different evenings so I'll give you the scoop based on both experiences. The first night it was packed to the gills thanks to a few busloads of obviously hungry and annoying high school kids. That means the lines were long, the food disappeared quickly and the staff was struggling to keep up with refreshing the popular items. Despite that, the grill dude managed to keep most of the steaks uninterrupted and most of the items were back after a wait when things settled down. In this respect, if you're there on a night packed to the gills, where you feel like the unmasked masses that were sitting elbow to elbow with everyone here will likely spark a super spreader covid event, then you're shit out of luck when it comes to getting what you want when you want. I also went a few nights later when it wasn't nearly as crowded. There were plenty of seats, it didn't feel like a hospital ICU and the food was plentiful. As it was on the first night, the popular items like the fried chicken, fried fish, shrimps etc - it all tasted great in all its unhealthy glory. Even their freakin' mashed potato gravy was yummy. As for the steaks, well the grill dude was there again and he did a good job of keeping plenty of steaks cooking. And as it was on the first night, every cut you get is the same temperature which was basically rare-somewhat medium rare. Good luck getting anything outside of that. On both nights the service was good and the clearly stretched servers were still doing a good job of keeping the plates coming, tables cleared and drinks filled. They also were friendly and chatted with us. It was not anything like what some nebulous profiles described here. Also for the record, nobody in my family or myself got sick. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the cotton candy to boot. One note - the "ice cream" does suck here. It's made of some yucky dairy substitute but beyond that, most of everything else was fine for the price we paid for. read more

Against my better judgement I went here for breakfast buffet at 10am. It was horrible!! My friend who was with me works in the food industry. We noticed 1) food warmers not keeping food warm; 2) creamers were spoiled; 3) meats beyond dry; 4) the majority of dishes and cups were dirty; 5) left gallons of milk sitting out on a cart in bakery for at least 1.5 hours; 6) water in bathroom stalls; 7) the bathroom was "cleaned" with the water that was already on the floor. The only good things were the omelette made to order AND the cupcakes. Very sad to see the state of this place. It needs new management, new safety training for the staff, appropriate temperatures for the foods and a better dishwasher. This place is prime for a lawsuit because of the bad practices. read more

Me and my family went to this restaurant and were not happy with our results. We found a spider in our food, the chicken was bloody with veins on the inside, and not hygienic. This restaurant had food all over the ground with no one cleaning it up, the tables also were wet and had food crumbs all over them. Also to mention, the food was absolutely disgusting. First Golden Corral visit in decades and what a terrible experience. It wasn't very busy yet service was terrible. Took 10 minutes to get drinks brought to us. I went through 20 salad plates looking for a clean one before I just gave up. I've been considering whether To post or not to post this review because It was in my opinion not good from the start but my Husband insisted we go here because the Golden Corals in the south are so much better than the North based on our past experiences. Wrong, wrong, wrong in this case. As soon as we walked in it smelled like a old unkept nursing home. Much of the hot food appeared to have been perching there for hours as it looked dried out, overcooked and on its last leg. The salad bar and dessert area were the freshest in presentation. Our server was really nice but allowed our dishes to remained cluttered on our table. After waiting we ended up placing our dishes on another table that had a collection of dirty dishes. This isn't my normal practice but the table we were at could not accommodate the space for all the dishes. Normally when vacationing in the south We would have gone to Golden Coral 2-3 times, but not this time. Lessons learn run when you smell something that reminds you of an unkept nursing home. This is THE MOST disgusting eating establishment that I've ever been to. Needless to say I was extremely reluctant to even eat here, but went along with it because my father had "coupons". My niece told me before going," it's dirty, but the food is good ". What I witnessed here was was horrifying and gut churning. Upon getting our silverware from the server, the gluttonous chocolate-dried-paint texture dessert caked on(pun intended) the knife was a sight for sore eyes. 5 minutes later into our possible disease inducing meal, I noticed a worker sweep the floor, then immediately sweep off a table with the same broom, then sweep the floor again. There's a rule that you must wear gloves at all buffet bars, but nobody knew how to use the gloves appropriately. I watched people handle the salad bar utensils, then touch their clothes, skin etc, then handle more salad bar utensils The pizza had no flavor, my hot cocoa was inedible because it tasted like bleach, and the foods that ordinarily have structure lacked it. I will say they had a large selection of food which is good for big families with finicky eaters, but the quality reinforced that I won't ever eat at a Golden Corral ever again. read more

The service a Golden Corral employee named Tina showed today was totally unprofessional and rude. Today my fellow senior classmates and I attended a Golden Corral for a brunch before our senior field trip. We were met with nice employees at the door but were soon met with a cramped corner of the restaurant tucked away in the very back of a very obviously empty restaurant and Tina would soon start barking orders at us for where to sit. I didn't react right away to her orders as I wanted to sit next to my friend and the employee would soon say very clearly and unmistakably that she "did not understand how people could not understand simple instructions." During the duration of our meal she would continue to say very negative and demanding things such as "I won't make this a bad experience for you if you don't make it one for me." This was supposed to be a nice and enjoyable experience for us seniors and she made it un enjoyable. We were treated more as children than respectable adults. read more
