While inexpensive, you do get what you pay for. I ordered the cashew chicken lunch special to go and an order of crab puffs. It came with 2 fried wontons, egg flower soup and fried rice. The rice was incredibly bland and was just rice- no peas, carrots, scrambled eggs-nothing. The 2 wontons were drenched in sweet and sour sauce and fell apart by the time I got home. The soup was almost inedible. No veggies, just broth and what appears to be a little egg. Crab puffs looked and tasted like they were bought from Costco. Nope. I've lived in Tucson for almost 30 years and it feels like this restaurant has been here just as long. I've never gone there before but my friend Bob over the years has used this as his go to Chinese restaurant. I was on my way home from the hospital and needed an easy quick dinner. I thought of the golden dragon Bob's go to takeout. I ordered the lemon chicken and salt and pepper wings. I was shocked when I bid into the thickly breaded fried chicken and saw that it was processed food. Processed chicken just like you get at McDonald's. The threading was thick and cakey in some places or most places, thicker than the chicken was. I took a look at the lemon sauce that accompanied it and was supposed to have lemon slices as in the description on the menu. It smelled and tasted artificial like pledge. I did eat several pieces of the chicken, but really couldn't stomach. The thought of this processed food of God knows what. See pictures for what I'm speaking to the wings were crispy and good extremely salty but then again, it was salt and pepper wings so there you have it. I ate the wings. It was real chicken. I guess I should've known from my first sentence that this was Bob's go to place that it probably wouldn't be for me. We have vastly different expectations and standards for dining. Absolutely ridiculous. We ordered chicken wings and what we got were pathetic little scraps that looked like they came from pigeons, not chickens. They were tiny, dry, and straight-up gross. My grandpa took one look, tried a bite, and sent them back -- he didn't want anything else, just wanted a refund. But nope. They refused to give the money back even though the food was untouched after the first wing. What kind of place serves garbage like that and then won't even take accountability? Total scam. I was feeling a little under the weather so I stopped by for a hot and sour soup.. This usually does the trick when I am not feeling good. Unfortunately this was probably my least favorite soup from any Chinese restaurant. It was nice and hot in the to go container but was lacking flavor. There were a lot of red pepper seeds in there so I got some hot but there was no shower. I would say they missed the mark on this soup. I contacted the store to let them know they said they would look into it. I will never eat here again. Even after reading all of the negative reviews about this restaurant, my sister and I decided to give it a try. We were the very beginning of the lunch crowd and were greeted warmly by the staff. We were shown to a booth and scoped out the lunch menu. I splurged an extra two dollars and ordered the shrimp with vegetables. My sister had the mu shu pork, something I've often enjoyed but have never seen on a lunch special menu. Both dishes were delicious and very well presented. Even the iced tea was great. The server assured me they make it fresh daily. By the time we left, the place was filling up with customers. I overheard no complaints about anything and everyone seemed satisfied with their meal. The food was ready quickly in 10 minutes, and the order was accurate. The containers were stuffed full to the brim, so we expected left overs, but the food was sooo good there was little left over. The chicken was a mix of white and dark meat wrapped in tempura, good so far, however the chicken pieces were cut into smaller pieces after being cooked. The inside and of the tempura was mushy and under cooked. All in all it was unappetizing. My Lo-mein was okay,but not particularly flavorful. The cashew chicken should have been called water chestnut as that's what it mostly was, with very little chicken or cashews. Orange chicken was actually red chicken. BUGS IN FOOD! I decided to come here for my lunch break at work, I ordered the house lo mein to go. And when I got back to work there was a GRASSHOPPER on the top of my food. I called back to tell them and bring it back, and the guy on the phone hung up on my after telling him. I called back and he said just bring your food In. Stopped here midweek for lunch. They offer $6.95 lunch specials and have quite a few lunch options. I choose the lo main with shrimp, chicken, and beef. It comes with egg drop soup and two fried won tons. It was delicious and perfect serving size for lunch. I ordered hot tea with my meal. The service was great and friendly. So here are the positives: The Dragon seems much bigger on the inside, probably because my mom and I were the only customers there. And it was clean. And they have an "A" rating from somewhere that seemed official. I know the Pima County Health department doesn't use that grade anymore, but it impressed my mom. The restaurant was eerily silent, save for two flat screen tv's tuned to college football and basketball. We split an order of egg rolls and got the lunch specials of Mongolian beef and cashew chicken. I got a pricey Tsing-Tao beer, my mom, green tea. The beer was cold, which is good. The egg rolls were volcanically hot and crispy, but super bland and comprised almost entirely of cabbage. The hot mustard was sinus clearing hot, which I did enjoy. The sweet and sour sauce, eh, was neither. Just orange red sauce of some kind. The lunch special comes with egg flower soup, a bland chicken bouillon overly thickened with corn starch and served at a balmy 75 degrees. I passed at two spoonfuls. Our entrees weren't much better. The problem was with the meat. My beef had the strangest non-beef texture, soft yet strangely chewy. My mom's chicken was too chicken-y, like an artificial chicken flavor. And grisly. She wished she had gotten the cashew chicken without meat. A surprise invitation from my two daughters for a rare weekday lunch prompted a quick search on Yelp. I read the prior reviews and expected the worst when I entered and saw an empty restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by some things and slightly disappointed in other things but did not have a bad experience overall. Pleasant surprises: Hot and sour soup and egg rolls. The hot and sour soup had decent flavor with the tang you expect. The egg rolls arrived cut in half and were EXTREMELY hot , obviously fresh from the fryer. The exterior was crunchy and veggies inside seemed fresh although they were short on seasoning. A swipe of the accompanying plum sauce and a dash of soy sauce turned them into hot little nuggets of goodness. Slight disappointment: I had the house lo mein, with beef, chicken and shrimp. My oldest daughter saw it on the menu and said, "Wow, you get all three for $5.95?" She ordered the same thing. My other daughter had broccoli and beef. The egg rolls we had were too hot to eat but our entrees were bordering on lukewarm... serious inconsistency here. The flavor of the lo mein was good and it had plenty of beef, chicken and two nice sized shrimp. The fried rice that came with our meals was bland and not even the soy sauce could save it. Service was described by my daughter as "hovering". There was never an empty water glass and soup bowls and plates were cleared promptly. Halfway into our lunch, the place started to fill up, causing our service to devolve. By the time we were done, we had a hard time tracking down our check. Lastly, as is customary with American Chinese food, we were given fortune cookies. Both my daughters ripped theirs open and took a bite of the cookie... STALE. I didn't bother to open mine. Been coming here for more than 15 years. The service is a total roller coaster, but usually not god awful. That's only happened once. We normally get the family dinners with the egg drop soup, egg rolls and crab puffs to start. For the entrees we get the chicken lo mein and either the Mongolian beef or the General Tso Chicken. I came here on my way home from Walmart. Right? Ew, walmart. So out I was, there at Speedway and Kolb, and craving Chinese. Any Chinese. Preferably good Chinese, but I didn't know of any places out in that area and Yelp did not come to my rescue. Of course, if your idea of good Chinese food is a dish that's 50% gloppy sauce made of oil, sugar, salt, soy sauce, and cornstarch, then maybe you'd think it's great. I ordered twice cooked pork, a dish which, when properly prepared, should be subtle, sauteed, with a hint of sauce (Google images of it; you'll see what I mean). The dish I got, on the other hand, was as described above, a sea of heavy sauce burying the meat and vegetables. On the basis of this dish alone, I would say that this place is a "must to avoid."
