Don't judge a Chinese restaurant by its boarded up entrance!

They always say you can find some of the best food at "hole in the wall" places. This restaurant doesn't even have it's own sign out front, it's combined with another restaurant. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but they are two separate businesses operating at the same location? So that makes the Golden Egg Roll a hole in the wall in a hole in the wall! Don't think you are going to the wrong place. Another tip, do pick up, not delivery. Our order was $75 for delivery, not including tip, but only $40 for pick up including tip. Unbelievable.

This place has some of the most friendly staff I have ever met very welcoming and explains anything that you may not understand I definitely would come back to this location just because of how welcome mean they had made me feel even buy just greeted me through the door they had so much energy not to mention the food was great

I ordered 2 Pork Egg Rolls, 2 Shrimp Egg Rolls, Shrimp Fried Rice and a Large order of Barbecue Pork with Vegetables. My order taker explained that the Pork Egg Rolls, had Shredded Pork in them. As a very first time Customer, I did not see or taste any pork in them. The Shrimp Egg Rolls had a rice wrap on them, yet had the very same fillings as the pork rolls. Both tasted fair, but was nothing to recommend. The Shrimp Fried Rice had miniature shrimp in them, along with peas and carrots. The rice itself, had a decent yet plastic texture. Maybe could have used a fresh batch and more distinctive seasoning. The Barbecue Pork with Vegetables had various vegetables in it from snow peas to mini corns. The Barbecue Pork slices had great flavor and was prepared in a dark brown sauce. The one truly great experience for my first time ordering here, was how inviting the Golden Egg Roll Staff Member was. Although I may not order Egg Rolls or Fried Rice again here, I will make an effort to return for something different on the menu. Oh, I would also like to thank a fellow staff member at work for recommending this restaurant to Me.

I have been coming to Golden Egg roll for years! When my brother used to live out here this was the place we went for lunch. It is a great lunch spot! I haven't been during dinner time. I took my daughter there for lunch, it was 12pm on a Thursday, and it wasn't packed, we placed our order, I had the orange chicken combo, extra spicy! Omg so delish!! I love their spicy orange chicken! Cannot get enough! My daughter ordered beef broccoli and she enjoyed it as well! Yea I will be back!

What you have to know before going here is that it's not a sit-down restaurant. Once you get that expectation out of the way, you'll avoid awkwardly standing at the front wondering why no one is seating you. Think of this place like a Samurai Sam's. You go in, walk up to the counter to order, find yourself a seat, then the food is made and brought out to your table, but you're responsible for throwing out your trash and placing the tray on the shelf above the trash can. The food was delicious and came out freshly cooked. However I would only order it again as take-out. Although the interior is clean, it's not very well kept. There was an overflowing closet of supplies and overall seems to be meant most for take out orders. Card is accepted, the receipt has a tip line, and there is plenty of parking including a few designated parking spots right out front just for Golden Egg Roll customers.

Not impressed. The egg foo young was weird to me. I realize Chinese is very subjective. Egg rolls were good. Beef skewers and BBQ Ribs were good. A little more flavor though. I think they Golden Egg Roll would benefit from reviewing maybe even updating their recipes. Staff was cordial and smiling. I felt welcome but probably won't be back. read more

This place is awesome for picking up and grubbing at home. We came here for Christmas and picked up some Chinese takeout. I rarely go off the script of my go-to favorites, but it always hits the spot for my Chinese-American food cravings. I wouldn't call this place authentic at all but a solid go-to for greasy takeout. read more

Hands down the best Chinese restaurant I've had in the Phoenix area!! The portions are huge, every item on the menu is delicious, and the prices are very, very reasonable. Not only is the food incredible, but the staff is even more wonderful. Every time I come in, they greet me with a smile and I always receive incredible service. If you're in the mood for some delish sweet and sour chicken, lo mein, hot and sour soup, potstickers (the list goes on..) or all of the above.. this is the place to go! Arrived after an hour and a half. Everything was COLD, COLD, COLD. We had ordered extra appetizers and requested at least EIGHT hot mustards. We received ZERO, ZILCH, NADA hot mustards. Asked the driver when he finally arrived with the food if they,had included the hot mustards he replied if you requested it it's in there. When i called the restaurant the man lied, said he was all out of hot mustards and the driver was suppose to let me know. 25 minutes later still waiting for the driver to return and pick up the food as manager promised. read more

Ordered food at 3:46pm, called at 5p to see where food was and they said driver left 7 minutes ago and there is traffic. Driver shows up at 5:33pm, order was $34 handed her $40 she rolled eyes said how much you want back? I said keep it... Food was ok, Shrimp fo yung nothing like I am use too... Horrible sponge like and couldn't even eat it. read more

Best Chinese food ever!!! I have been ordering from this place for the last 8 yrs. My favorite is the sesame chicken combo! I know the last few orders delivery has been within 30 min which is outstanding because before then they say 45 min, but expect a hour. Its well worth waiting a hour so plan ahead. I love the little lady that answers"Gowden Eggwoll, how can I hewp you"!!! When you hear that your gonna get some bomb Chinese food. read more

I don't understand why people say its the best Chinese food. The food didn't taste good, the egg rolls felt like they were made the day before and reheated, the presentation in a Styrofoam plate looked like cheap cafeteria food. I know places that are cheaper, have better presentation and most importantly the food tastes good. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it at all. read more

Typical strip mall chinese mom and pop restaurant. Nothing too spectacular. Greatest point was for the very attentive lady who saw to our order and comfort. Nice home feel. Food was average, if not a bit salty. But the price and quantitiy was appreciated. We were in the area and it met our needs nicely. Not a place to drive out of the way for. read more

Just finished our first meal from here and have to say that will probably not be ordering from them again. We ordered crab puffs, twice cooked pork and garlic shrimp but there was very little flavor to anything. The crab puffs were mostly won tons with minimal filling and the dipping sauce was like orange colored water. Very disappointed even after adding hot mustard which luckily I had on hand because they only provided soy sauce. read more

This is your typical hole in the wall Chinese food place, and it's exactly what you would expect menu wise but over the 5 or so years I've been going there the food has been consistently good. Its a once a month staple for lunch with my coworkers. read more

I'm a fan of Mongolian BBQ and it needs to be spicy, the first place I've found where they actually listened to me and made it spicy. It felt like heaven. The orange chicken was pretty blah, and the sauce didn't have the slightest hint of orange. The portions were pretty tiny as well. Even with all that, will definitely stop by. read more

This is the only chinese food I order from besides Quik chinese. My go to food for my family is: Chicken lo mein-more noodles. Not enough chicken Sweet and sour pork-sauce is mixed in with it Beef and broccoli- my daughter loves this! She's 2. *this comes with a mix of veggies* Wonton soup- I can't get enough!! Wontons are perfect, plus the add tofu like extra noodles! Downfall is that delievery takes about 30/45 minutes but my food has come hot everytime so it's worth it just order a little bit early so you cry get it by dinner time! ***you can order online! But I have alwaysed called to make sure everything is right. Owner is amazing!! read more

Today I ate here for a late lunch and a couple of bites into my shrimp and broccoli I tasted ammonia as if the food was spoiled. I spit it out and complained to the staff. One of the owners said do not come back again. Do not eat here!! If people will tell you do not come back again because they served you spoiled food then they do not deserve the business. They will definitely not get another dime from me. read more

The Golden Egg Roll is my go-to for Chinese food. The sweet and sour sauce is amazing. The crab puffs have just the right amount of stuff and aren't overfull of either cream cheese or crab. I usually get those with chicken dishes. One of my favorites is the teriyaki chicken. The fried rice is also to die for and has just enough flavor. The only problem for me is the delivery fee, since I usually only order in from them. Still, they're good enough for me to be a repeat customer in spite of the delivery fee. Whenever I need a chinese fix but don't want to or can't go out, the Golden Egg Roll is it. read more

This place is a hidden gem. I've been looking for a good Chinese take away in the Tempe area for awhile. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The portions are very large and taste good. Everything is cooked to order. The beef in the beef house fried rice melts in your mouth and I highly recommend the Mongolian chicken. I definitely will be back. read more

I've had some bad Chinese food, but this trumps it. Absolutely zero flavor. Ordered beef and broccoli, orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, and chow mein. The orange chicken wasn't bad, but the others had no flavor. This was a waist of $50. You're better off at Panda Express. read more

I've tried Golden Egg Roll twice. Once for delivery and once in the restaurant. BLECH! Both times. Actually ICK the first time, MEH slash ICK the second time. The delivery is quick and efficient. I ordered the House Fried Rice and a veggie egg fu young. I was grossed out by the shrimp in the fried rice. I could SMELL my shrimp before it even entered my mouth. Sounds normal right? No it was FUNKY shrimp that was slightly slimy. Blech. My Fu Young was unremarkable after you got past the saltiness of the dish. Months later, I was asked by a coworker to have lunch. I let her pick the place... I will never make that mistake again. She picked Golden Egg Roll. The restaurant itself is nice and clean from what I saw. I chose the orange chicken. Again with the salt! I was baffled and I asked the other ladies I was with if they were having the same issue. Yes, they were! Well that summed it up for me. I probably won't visit Golden Egg Roll again. What a bummer, they have all this swag from a service (they probably paid for) naming them one of the top Chinese restaurants in the area. I'm uninterested in giving this joint another shot, unfortunately. There are too many other places to try. read more

ok so I work next door at the bead store, we've all had our share of encounters with this horrible place. A couple of times we've gotten bugs in our food... not fun! We have rats coming thru our walls from their place... and we always see them sharpening their tools outside on the cement. Not to mention, the owner is a complete bitch! She is rude and i would NEVER NEVER recommend this place to anyone. We have customers coming in all the time complaining about this place or asking us how their food is, and as soon as we tell them the horrors, they thank us, and we reccomend them to a nicer better place. read more

My husband and I got food poisoning from here a couple years ago. I called to let them know and they did not even care. They just said we have not had anyone else tell us. Not bad for the first take out. We ordered sweet and sour and szechuan pork with crab puffs and used a coupon for an egg roll. Not bad for the both of us for at least $20! It tastes authentic and flavorful than the other Chinese restaurants in the area.The place is tiny, but as long as the food is good right? Definitely coming back! read more

I ordered my food at 7:45, than I got a call at 8:16 asking me where my apartment was. After explaining to him multiple times over the next 25 minutes my food finally arrived. I love golden eggroll and I wish that I didn't have to write a bad review about them, but how they handled it was inappropriate. Once I got my food it was obviously cold. I called right away to speak with the manager. She told me that people get lost and it wasn't her fault and that if I want a refund I have to bring the food back to her. I told her that someone could come and pick it up, but she refused and then she hung up on me. I've ordered from them 20 times at least, but I will not continue to. read more

Flew in on a business trip and asked the front desk for a recommendation on a Chinese delivery joint. Called Golden Eggroll, one of the best take out places I've been to. Had the twice cooked pork ( I always get it to compare), savory, rich and spicy. Loaded with veggies and nice helping of "fried rice". The rice was just plain and not your typical loaded fried rice but paired well with the pork. Biggish portion and came with an eggroll and some fried wontons for 8 bucks. Highly recommended !!!! read more

Love this place- the food is excellent. The delivery service is definitely spotty... But I live close enough that I drive over for pick up. Otherwise it takes about 2 hours for delivery. I still eat here at least 2 times a month. Lettuce wraps, Mongolian beef, Sesame Chicken, all favourites. If you want quality taste, and don't mind eating in the hole in the wall dining room or running to pick it up, you will not be disappointed. ;) read more

When I called back, they said they had no driver and told me to pick it up even though I paid for delivery because I did not have a vehicle at the time. They refused to refund me, hung up, and even blocked my number. I had to go in person just to deal with it, they continued to refuse a refund for the item until I told them I would bring the police due to them stealing from me. We order our food to go and only took about 7 mins to get our food we sat down on a coach and watch tv while we waited. My wife got a beef lomein and I got the house special chicken, the sauce was delicious and the chicken was fried to perfection I highly recommended. The food was fresh. The prices were fair. 5-8 per meal about. Way larger portion sizes then expected. Family of 4 had leftovers off 2 large meals. They Dont use msg. Their online website has their full menu with prices. You can order from it or make a reservation. Customer service was fast and super polite. The restaurant is fair size and clean.
