I have be coming to Golden Glow for 3+ years now and safe to say I will never go anywhere else. I do powder dip on my natural nails every 3-4 weeks and these ladies do it best. They can do any design you want and my nails are truly indestructible. Anytime I try a different salon I'm lucky if my dip lasts me 2 weeks (I box a lot, do cross training, etc.) but here, I always get a solid 4 weeks with no lifting or breaking. Quick note that they *have moved* to 668 6th Ave (Second Floor), which isn't indicated on their yelp page but is on their website. Manicure: 5/5 - my nails looked really nice! Wendy was lovely and very skilled at what she does. Covid-safety: 5/5 - masks were worn throughout the staff which I really appreciated (I wore a mask too !) Experience: 3/5 - I felt there was little transparency in terms of price and method of payment, so I'll try to put it here. Prices are *lower* if you pay with cash. They also accept venmo, but it's slightly more expensive. Manicures are about $15-22 depending on polish and payment method. Gel are about $38 and SNS is about $58 from what I gathered. They also offer other services like facials and massages I believe. I felt I had upset or disappointed them when I didn't choose gel/SNS, and therefore the process felt a tad rushed and impersonal? I'm not sure how to feel about it, but I appreciated the quality of the manicure and attention to detail. They were well staffed, efficient, and kind. After I chose a color, they were ready to go. Maggie did a wonderful job with extensions and sns powder. However, things had gotten quite dire, and I have some lingering summer wedding festivities, so I decided to spend an hour researching and agonizing before making an appt here. This salon is overall a 4 star place in general - but in the neighborhood they deserve a 5. They are the only decent nail salon within a 10 block radius! Love that you can make online appointments or walk in very easily - haven't had to wait very long. The touch of having chargers and phone stands readily available when you're getting nails done is such a nice touch - simple but goes a long way as you can literally watch shows while getting your nails done. I do feel like I have somewhat high expectations because Coco Nails is my favorite spot in the city... just sadly too far out of the way now. I came on a rainy Saturday, it's a very small nail salon area BEHIND the massage/spa. I made the mistake of speaking with the spa personnel when I walked in and was confused! They have two nail stations and two pedicure chairs. I got a gel manicure and was quickly in and out. Lasted 1.5 weeks and she did a really great filing job. I sadly did not get her name :( It was very reasonably priced too, I believe it was $35 for gel. *IT IS CASH ONLY BUT THEY ACCEPT VENMO* I will remember to bring cash next time because I felt a bit guilty not realizing that before going. My initial thought was to give this place 1 star because we got off to a bumpy start but it ended slightly better. My girlfriend and I made 6:15 appointment for a manicure/pedicure. We were 5 minutes late, so we were fine waiting a bit to get chairs. They started my girlfriend's pedicure as I sat there because the same lady doing her pedicure wound up doing mine. The pedicure was the quickest, sloppiest pedicure I've ever received. Maybe 10 minutes? My pinky toes aren't even painted. They move my girlfriend to the manicure chair and start on her while I sat there and watched, again. Finally another woman came over and did my nails. She did a decent job considering I needed one tip, my nails shaped and I'm picky about my polish. We didn't leave until after 8pm... I have been going here since March because it was the closest place near my job that did SNS powder. Unfortunately, after going other (further) places to get my nails done and seeing my friends' regular gel nails last longer than my $45 plus tip powder nails, I've given up and have started going somewhere else. I have had this powder gel manicure for less than two weeks, and I already have three nails that are lifting. Whenever I go to get them done in Queens (or even all the way in Massachusetts), they last 3+ weeks. When I tell this to the girls there they always look surprised and claim that it's because "my nails need to get used to the powder". If my nails need to get used to it, then why do they last longer when other salons do them?! Also once I asked for coffin shaped nails (which I had done during my previous manicure at a different salon), and they were all lopsided. Couldn't look at my hands for those two weeks... Overpriced for the quality, so from now on I'm going to a place in Queens. And I NEVER go to Queens. read more

Not only did the guy bruise my nail with the nail cleaning tool (which hurt like hell) he cut the side of my foot so bad with the cuticle remover tool. Popped up during lunch for a gel manicure ($32 with tax) with a colleague. I called ahead two days before to make a reservation, but they were completely empty on a 1pm on a Wednesday. Lucky us! We got to sit together and relaxed for 35 minutes. Very sanitary overall and what's different was that it included a (warm) lotion hand glove as they were prepping our nails to be painted. I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars out of 5. I will say I've tried tons of places around the city in Manhattan, BK and queens and this is by far the best I've found for dip/SNS. It really depends which nail tech you get. Ivy is definitely one of the best, unfortunately even if you book under her name it does NOT mean you'll actually get her prices are a littleee on the more expensive side, 57$ for dip removal then full manicure but I still think it's worth it in NYC. This all being said, sometimes I leave here and my nails are STUNNING, then sometimes they're just kinda eh and I have to trim my cuticles at home a little more and file the tips just a tad. All in all, I would recommend giving this place a try if you do dip! read more

Just got my SNS done here today. Honestly -- it's truly bad. I was nicked twice and should have walked out, but didn't. By the end, my nails were uneven, streaky and frankly just unacceptable. The owner came over and was also disturbed by the quality. She sat down to fix them, but they're still bad. They would have needed to completely start over to salvage the job. If I had more time, I would have had them completely redo it, but I had already been there for 2 hrs and have a ton of running around to do before my event tomorrow. It was also air dried and I didn't have to put my hands in the UV light thing. For some reason that made me happy. The color I picked happened to be one that is temperature sensitive - a happy accident. Discovered after it was put on one nail, he was quick to ask if I wanted to continue and even showed me what it would look like hot vs cold. This little gem was pretty much the best manicure of my life to date. They made a reservation on day-of work for two. We both got SNS powders dip nails-- which ran about $50. I added tips which was another $15 or so, but TOTALLY worth it. My nails (which are not usually not in great shape) looked absolutely flawless when they were done. I have gone here once before and thought everything was way better than my most recent experience. PROS: *They use a clear wrap to cover each pedicure station to ensure cleanliness. It's tossed after used. *Staff are friendly and attentive. CONS: *My nail polish started chipping literally the next day (see photo). Argghhh! *I got burned by hot water during my pedicure. The woman apologized and it was clearly a mistake, but you figure if people work there, they should know how to use their devices. Not fun!! *Place isn't as cleanly as I would like. It is dusty, there is dirt around (even on their tools :( ), and the garbage was full in more than one place. It seems like they want to move quickly with business because it does get busy, but cleanliness is a top priority for me, especially when dealing with hygienic matters like getting a manicure and pedicure.
