I'm a sucker for some good Chinese take out but this place had terrible food. The lobster fried rice didn't have any lobster - only over cooked crawfish. It was pretty flavorless and didn't seem to be "fried" rice - more like steamed rice. The chicken lomein was also pretty bland. I realize it is supposed to be a healthier alternative to your typical Chinese take out but who wants flavorless food even if it's healthier? Not me. read more

If your a vegetarian the menu has many options and the food overall tastes great. I noticed the fried rice is one of the best I've had and love the TSO's chicken. After moving back and realizing that my old Chinese spot is now known by everyone there is a noticeable difference in the quality of food has taken a nose dive. The chicken wings got smaller, general tso has gotten mushy, and beef sticks are in no way what they used to be. Fried rice is still a go though! read more

These people will never get my money again. By the way, they swear they are nit on yelp and maybe I had the wrong chinese restaurant. Im not sure they realize their picture is on the yelp page! Ive been ordering from them for years and they forgot to bring my order. /the young lady is very rude and comfortable. I really enjoyed the food here. I got delivery and I live pretty far from the location and it got to me in less then 30 minutes. The food was absolutely delicious and they have great vegetarian options as well so it was perfect. I got the vegetarian friend rice but I wish it had eggs in it. The best part of of my meal was the vegetarian sesame chicken. But sadly the standard brown rice was dry and had no flavor. Typical Chinese take out joint. Order by number i.e. L2 and it will be ready in 10 minutes. Filling lunch specials, had order when I got there in 10 minutes. Skimpy on the sauce packets, but they had some on the counter. The plastic fork is tiny. The fried rice is anemic, very few bits of pork, peas, onions or carrots. It was also a weird color of yellow. Golden House is my go to chinese restaurant when I'm in the area. It's got a large vegeterian menu and has won numerous awards for their food and customer service. It's clean and the staff are very friendly too. If you order online, then you have to order at least $15 for them to deliver. Delivery takes around 30 to 45 minutes depending on where you live. Something has changed here for the worse. This was always my go-to carryout for fairly good Chinese carryout food. The last few visits have been awful. Even the egg rolls taste completely different now. they taste fishy now. The crispy beef was not at all crispy, more like slimmy-soggy and 90%sliced celery. Fried rice is totally bland and has a sickeningly greasy feel and rancid oil taste that I only have experienced at bad chinese places. last time I had the hot and sour soup, it was more sweet than hot and had the texture of snot (not exaggerating). read more

Golden House has been my go-to Chinese take-out place for several years. The flavors are good, the food tastes fresh, and the service is fast. However, the last two times I've been very disappointed. They have obviously decided to save money by reducing the amount of meat in each dish. My partner and I have each noticed this trend. Do not get delivery from here!! After a long day of holiday traveling and a 1 1/2 hour delay at the airport coming home, I was tired and hungry and wanted food delivered to me. I've eaten here several times; the food is fine...a step above your average "China Star" hole-in-the-wall take-out spot located in any strip mall. However, all of those other times, I have placed an order to go or for pick up. Tonight's delivery experience will have me only placing to go or pick up orders from now on. First, they said it would take 40 minutes for delivery. As it's a Monday night and not a hoppin Friday or Saturday, I thought that was a bit odd. But, I was ok with it. Over an hour later, I was about to call when they showed up. The delivery guy was unpleasant and not at all pleased about having business. (Ok, as there are a bajillion other Chinese food places in this area, I think you could be a bit more appreciative about having someone choose your restaurant!!) The food was barely lukewarm. I had to reheat everything...my egg drop soup, my crab rangoons, the General Tso chicken and the lo mein. Reheating food that hasn't even been eaten yet is not on my list of things I look for in delivery from a restaurant. I give this place 3 stars for the food; 1 star for delivery, so 2 stars overall. I have ordered delivery via Yelp from Golden House a few times and I have always enjoyed the experience and food. I have given a 4-star rating because I think it's great for what it is. This isn't the best Chinese food I've ever had, and the food isn't unique or original or anything of that sort. However, it's a solid option if you are craving Chinese food, want something fast and cheap. I usually get my order faster than the estimated time Yelp states. Also, this place is ridiculously cheap! I'm almost afraid to go to the actual establishment, because I don't understand how it can be so cheap. However, if you're home on a Friday, don't feel like going out, and just want to stay in and watch a movie (usually the context that leads to me ordering from GH), this is perfect dinner choice. The options can be hit or miss, but you'll find some great hits when you do find the. My husband and I usually order the fried chicken wings, which are surprisingly flavorful and have become one of our favorite fried chicken options, and the General Tso's chicken. We've also tried the shrimp fried rice, shrimp toast, vegetable spring rolls, and the egg drop soup, all decent options. EXPENSIVE DOG FOOD. I stopped in to Golden House, hungry for Chinese and remembering it was good some years ago. I ordered Beef Broccoli and shrimp toast. The shrimp toast was by far the worst I ever had -- 4 greasy, burned little pathetic toast quarters with mystery 'meat' filling. Thought the beef might be better. I drove home (about 20 min) and was not surprised to find it was no longer hot. No biggie, but parts of the broccoli were refrigerator cold -- and it's June! It clearly was not even heated thoroughly. The brown gravy had a 1/4 inch layer of grease floating on the top. I ate just a bit before giving the rest to my dog. I think she enjoyed it. read more

It just had an overpowering fishy flavor, but the real turn off was the overpowering flavor of turned oil in the Egg Rolls. Working in Silver Spring in an area where I'm inbetween Wheaton Mall and Downtown Silver Spring, so there is never really a chance of going out to eat with traffic and what not. But there is an abundant supply of restaurant that do deliver from pizza to Chinese. We usually go this place or Chin & Lee's but when Chin & Lee's delivery person was not satisfied with our tip and called us cheap we said screw Chin & Lee. We love Golden House for the fact that their produce are always fresh and it taste fresh...as well as their meats. They also offer a "diet" menu that consist of steamed chicken &/or shrimp and vegetables. They have a great lunch special for 5.75 you get your meat, vegetables, rice and an egg roll. I usually hate calling in orders for Chinese restaurants but the staff at Golden House are easy to understand, patient, give you exact price. I must also add that their delivery time is awesome and always makes it in time right before lunch. I'm also iffy on eating shrimp for delivery but I've only had one bad experience where the shrimp tasted too fishy. I called them in and they offered my next order on them. So thumbs up to Golden House and their impeccable service. read more

For the price, you get delicious, healthy Chinese take out. Crab ragoons are hot, crispy, and flavorful without being overly greasy. They are stuffed perfectly with filling unlike other take out places that are just a drop of cream cheese. The vegetables in the vegetable sauté are fresh and in good variety. Pepper steak was typical. Overall, a fresh meal that you don't have to spend a ton on. read more
