I'm not one who'll usually write a review except when it's absolutely necessary. Take this as constructive, instead of a destructive criticism. I'm new to Tucson so I rely mostly on yelp or google for food recommendations, etc. So, last night, I was craving for a Chinese meal. Coming from VA, I had a lot of really good options. I found Golden House to have good reviews, but not all. Regardless, I went ahead and ordered take out and spent a good amount of money. To my dismay, the crispy duck wasn't at all crispy. The chicken lo mein, Vietnamese egg rolls and vegetable chopsuey wasn't able to redeem themselves either. After a few minutes into my dinner, I stopped and decided it's not going to taste any better. Everything tasted old and stale. I can't point it out but something didn't taste right. Their fryer may need fresh cooking oil or whatever. They need to do something about it. Sadly, had to throw out $65.00 worth of meal from this place because it's not worth eating what's left of it. read more

Diane says their Fortune Cookie was, "The Best Part of the Meal!!" I read the reviews and drove all the way from the Northwest side of town to the Far East Side on 22nd and Spanish Trail. This was the absolute worst Chinese food I've ever had in my life I took a few bites and I'm bringing it back to the restaurant I was so disgusted with it. They have the nerve to charge $0.75 per soup for it to be packed to go yet they don't charge anything for their Chinese food to be packed to go. I've had enough with this crap had it with Chinese I'm sticking with PF Chang and Pei. Whose nephew's have these 5 Star reviews nieces and children of the owner but the food is terrible substandard and subprime and they should not called an Eggroll and they can't even call it a spring roll it was a dough ball and it was disgusting undercooked! Our first time eating here and our last! Starting with portion size, very small, almost appetizer size. The fried rice was full of frozen vegetables and had no flavor. The Beef Egg Foo Young was beyond salty, but also no flavor. Worst Chinese we've had in Tucson in 16 years. The dinner plate is a salad plate..... so you think you have more food? If I could give a negative rating, I would! New in area so I'm looking for a new place for Chinese food. Suppose to b 4.5, one of the best in the area. I wanted to try 3-5 different items and I saw lunch was served till 3. I called about 2:40 and they said they were still doing lunch till 3. Great 4 different items @ $8 or 4 items at $12 was a much better option and didn't need 4 dinner servings of rice. Ordered: Sweet and sour Pork. Tempura coating was mushy and pork was chewy Sweet and Sour Shrimp. Shrimp was cold very tough and coating was mushy Kung Pao Chicken. Bland, no spice or flavor. It was not warm Mongolian Beef. Slightly warm, beef tough, very lightly spiced Rice came with each so I got White, Brown, and fried..... brown and fried were cold mushy and tasted old. White was barely warm. Egg roll was tough on outside but mushy on inside. Best part were the onions and peppers, they were crunchy and fresh. Maybe I ordered at a bad time, just before lunch specials were ending and the food might be better at noon and dinner time, I'm not sure. Enjoyed take-out meal from this small, strip-mall restaurant. Although all items were flavorful, especially the Hot and Sour Soup, most other items (Mongolian Beef, Tofu Broccoli, Thai Fish) were just average for Chinese cuisine. Service was polite and fast. I have not had a worst meal any place. I went there anticipating something unique because of 4 1/2 stars on yelp. Pardon me but I don't know who gave him 4 1/2 stars they certainly should be removed. They're hot sour soup was terrible, the shrimp with lobster sauce tasteless! My friend ordered fried rice and I ordered brown rice they both looked exactly the same. I originally went to this restaurant to taste your food because I have a party the next day and I plan on ordering for 10 people. I came away extremely disappointed. The waitress brought a meal before we were finished with our soup, which was terrible anyway. Best Mongolian beef and shrimp that we have found. Most inexpensive prices and a cozy setting with fast service. You can get brown rice, no oil, no msg and great vegan offerings. What've eaten there about5 X this month. The hit and sour soup consistently tasty and egg rolls or crab puss included in their lunches which range between 5.25-8.00 . 'No Green Peppers Please' Three months ago, I read reviews, scanned the menu, stared at the downloaded photos... shuffled me feet, and finally grabbed my phone and placed an order. Amidst the 'mmmms' and 'yummm', and, 'I can't believe how good this is', it occurred to me that I should take photos. But, I didn't want to stop eating and considered it could just be a fluke. Since that time I have ordered either Delivery or Takeout about 8-9 more times. I've called in during busy hours, evenings, and both Monday and Tuesday's afternoons (usually the worst time to order Asian food). What has surprised me is how consistently delicious the meals have been. Not always 5 star perfect, but never lower than 4 stars. Absolutely every time I've called, the person assisting me has been helpful and pleasant. And, every delivery/take out has been steaming hot, tasted freshly made with quality ingredients!!!! I had intended to write one sentence, 'SERIOUSLY PEOPLE...ORDER/EAT HERE!!'. However, I changed my mind after recalling how not once have they slapped down something easy. From order to delivery and all the bites in between my experience with Golden House has been satisfying and excellent. Even the delivery guy is awesome. They give abundant portions at a very reasonable price!! I can't recall all of the menu items we have enjoyed nor can I choose my favorite. We eat meat, but I prefer all protein to be surrounded (up and down and all around) with fresh veggies, and they always come through. The beef dishes are made with slices of tender lean cuts, never fatty or gristly. The chicken has always been perfectly cooked, tender slices of white meat. The pork has been moist lean slices. And my favorite are the shrimp dishes, always loaded with luscious large shrimp, always perfectly cooked, always yummy. All of the different Beef, Chicken, Shrimp, and Pork items are loaded with both the protein and vegetables. At their low price point, I do not know how they can do this and I don't want to ask!!! Under Vegetable dishes I love the Chinese Vegetables with Black Mushroom and the Stirred Fried Chinese Greens. I plan to try others but these two dishes are so delicious, I didn't want to not order them. Their Fresh Tofu Skins with Chinese Greens is also tasty. Oh and I'm obsessed with their Vegetable Egg Foo Young, never saw where's it's at on the menu, but Oh My...it's my new happy food. Also enjoy their Vegetable Lo Mein, one time it was a little dry, all the other times it was excellent. The War Won-Ton Soup??? YES! Just Yes! Chicken Won-Ton? Yes Please. Both are loaded with crispy fresh veggies and delicious wonton bundles of joy. I usually love Hot and Sour soup, haven't tried theirs yet, which is weird for me. But, I've been stuck on those Won-Tons! If you like appetizers try the Meat Combo!!!!!!!!!!!!! We ordered this once, and each of the items were perfectly delicious, crunchy, but not greasy. I love their Crab Puffs, guessing they don't contain real crab, and I don't care. Man those things are good. The Egg Rolls in the Meat combo were one of the best I've had. The Vegetable Egg Rolls are smaller, more like a spring roll. We've ordered these several times, one time they were 'okay', but all the other times they were crispy and tasty. Some of the specific meat dishes we've enjoyed are, Thai Shrimp (on the sweet side, but we like it), Curry Three Delight, Almond Chicken, Mongolian Beef, BEEF W/TRIPLE MUSHROOM, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce (hubby wasn't impressed but I liked it), SHRIMP CHOP SUEY. And several others, but these have been my favorites. We have never ordered from Menu with the Lunch or House Specials. Because we are remodeling our kitchen/house, I always order enough for a couple of meals, thus the reason we could try so many options multiple times! Hooray for me!! I have Celiac disease that was medically diagnosed on biopsy by a pathologist (the gold standard). One of my early and painful lessons after diagnosis was that soy sauce has gluten. Since being diagnosed, I have missed Chinese food like you wouldn't believe. At most restaurants there is a cultural/communication issue regarding the need for gluten-free cooking and the risk of cross-contamination. I Googled "gluten free Chinese food Tucson" and this was the first hit. I had to try it. The server and owner were exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. It's clear they take Celiac disease seriously, which must be difficult given the latest fad of people doing Wheat Belly and whatever other nonsense book they last read. Everything I had was *delicious*. They even made me a special batch of the best hot and sour soup I have had (granted, I haven't had any in years but it was worth the wait!) My dining companions were not Celiac but one was vegan and she was able to find a meal that she also loved. Dietary considerations are taken VERY seriously here. Everyone was happy. The food was cheap and delicious. This place is a good 45 minute drive from my house but TOTALLY worth it for a Celiac! read more

Every Chinese place I've gone to has been okay. Nothing special about it. But this place has no GMO, it's Gluten Free, and no nasty oils. They will give you details on it inside if you want to know more about it. We came here because It had great reviews and we were not disappointed. My husband got chicken and broccoli and it was the bomb.com so amazing. I got the sweet and sour chicken but then realized that I had too much fried stuff and picked on my husbands plate instead. Orange chicken was great too (it was the house special, it came with egg roll and soup for $7 and some change) We are def going back. I place I would go out of my way to eat from. Im very lucky to have this place near my house. I go for takeout at least once during the weekend. First and foremost Ming is a treasure, great customer care and genuine conversation. Shes goes out of her way to say hi and greets you with a smile. Now for the food. for the longest time I only had the House / Lunch Special because it was good, had a decent selection and the portions were ample. My fave is the Orange chicken I like the way they prepare it with the sauce over or on the side if you wish, not drowning the chicken. Then I ventured into the rest of the menu and Im on a quest to try it all. So far my favorites. -Lunch Menu - Orange chicken, Lemon Chicken, Sweet Sour Shrirmp Ordering from the main menu usually gets you enough food for almost 3 meals: unless you are super hungry or just cant stop eating. -Main Menu - the Curry is excellent. They use yellow curry and it works on so many levels I've had the Chicken and Tofu. (and I never order anything Tofu but it was great!!) Next time Im gonna get the squid curry. -The Egg Foo Young is great I usually get the special - pay the lil bit extra and get all the flavors. -The Spicy Eggplant was Amazeballs, I can hardly wait to try the Garlic Eggplant. -I had the tomato Beef (Why? Ive never ordered Tomato beef at any other restaurant but Im on a mission)and it was tasty (large chucks of Tomato and Green Peeper deff made fresh) I liked this dish and will enjoy the left overs, but for me it was a litttle on the sweet side not (Sweet and Sour Sweet..) but the way tomato dishes can be sweet, nice mild flavor. I'd add a heck of a lot more spice but thats my taste. - WarWonton soup is great lots of veggies and dumplings. - the Hot and sour soup you get with the special is good as well. - Crab Puff are good, I prefer the Veggie eggrolls and the Chinese Bread makes for a nice dessert. Grossly disappointing quality of food. The customer service was phenomenal from our phone order all the way through our pick up and purchase. Our beef & broccoli was hot and fresh, but very bland in taste. It lacked flavor. Our entree did not receive its order of white rice that was specifically told it would come with. Our orange chicken was fresh & hot. It came with an order of white rice, but the sauce for it was not what you would expect when you ordered "orange chicken". This dish as well missed all the flavor and taste that we were looking for. Our chicken eggrolls were the only thing that had some kind of flavor to it. Still it was a highly unsatisfying meal and definitely not worth the price paid for it. Our first time here, is for sure our LAST time here. If only the food was partially comparable to the quality of service we received, it would've been worth it. We cant recommend this restaurant for any positive experiences. read more

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in Tucson. The owner must work around the clock as she is always at the reception desk greeting folks and answering the phone. She loves her restaurant and her customers. And that shows in the food they serve. We are back to Tucson for the winter and could not wait to have dinner last night at Golden House. The dining room is open and bright with lovely live plants and comfy booths. Last night we ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Moo Chu Chicken were awesome. Just tried the Golden House because it's a local owned small business and close to home. I have to say my experience was amazing. The restaurant was very clean, staff was extremely friendly but more importantly the food was incredible. I had the General Taos Chicken, Mongolian Three Delight, Pork Fried Rice and Wonton soup. All the dishes were generous but the taste was out of this world. The Mongolian Three Delight had shrimp, chicken and beef that was plentiful and amazing. The pork fried rice had tons of pork. The wonton soup was packed with wontons and veggies. I am a very picky Chinese food fan and this is my new favorite restaurant! It will be tough to top this experience. read more

Food is kind of expensive but not anymore than any other restaurant. Service was good and food was good. Yummy and healthy! We just finished our first meal from The Golden House. We ordered : Crab puffs: very flavorful inside and non greasy on the outside. War wonton: this means everything wonton, and it was fantastic! It was full of pork, chicken, shrimp,veggies, and wontons all settled in a very flavorful broth. Mooshu beef: tender beef and well seasoned veggies served with soft tortillas. I have had this places where it was swimming in oil, but not here, it was healthy and flavorful. Sesame Chicken: this was a bit on the sparse side, and had a distinct lemon flavor, but still tasty and non fried. 4 stars for serving size on the Sesame Chicken and for only one fortune cookie for our large order.....a bit stingy! read more
