3.5 stars. But I'll post with the 4 rather than the 3 because I very pleasantly surprised. I've never been to any Golden Krust, and honestly I had low hopes for a chain restaurant. I was with my cousin and wanted him to try oxtails since he never had them. The smells were nice when we arrived. We got oxtails, rice and peas, jerk chicken, a spicy beef patty and coco bread. And of course some Ting to wash it all down. The portions are pretty generous. The plates are served with braised cabbage and plantains. I have to repeat how pleasantly surprised I was. The oxtails had good flavor and were super tender. The juices mixed in with the rice was delicious. The beef patty was pretty good. The jerk chicken needed a little more heat, but I'm assuming you have to keep the consumer in mind and not everyone can handle heat. I'm glad we decided to stop in. My husband and I have tried different items from here and we were impressed and happy each time. They give you a great portion of food and the flavor really stands out. We had also ordered their bbq wings, jerk wings and cocktail patties for our wedding after party and the food was fulfilling. Only draw back was that we had to pick it up ourselves but was worth the hike. We will continue to order food from here. read more

I came here for dinner and ordered the curry shrimp, rice and peas, and cabbage with a side of plantain. The food was not hot and it just didn't taste well. The rice and peas and cabbage were ok but the shrimp was overcooked. What was most disappointing was the plantain that was also cold and had an awful aftertaste. I was so disappointed. Ordered the shrimp from here and it gave me and my boyfriend food poisoning we were throwing up so bad for about 12 hours that we had to cancel again. He went back to pick up food for his family and to give the restaurant another chance. When one associate started to serve him, another whispered in their ear that this batch was bad. Finally a place on 22 with some taste to it! Tried all of the lunch specials and loved them all. Came back for the large portions at dinner and it's definitely a sharable dish. Spicy beef patties were on point! I can recommend the side of fried chicken. A real tasty bargain. Clean establishment and friendly folks. Once they get the process down, I think the line will move faster, but right now, it's worth the wait. Parking could be an issue, but they have parking in back (22 east bound) and parking up front (22 west bound). Good job Golden Krust! Hope you do well and stick around. read more

When I came inside, She yelled to me something but I was unable to hear her. As a result of that, I replied that I was sorry and I asked if I could order. Shen then replied with "that is what i just said!" That was such a terrible greeting and I almost just walked out and left. However, since I drove about 20 minutes to get there I decided to order. So let's get into ordering. The food I ordered was great, but the employee was very rude and impatient. It was my first time there and after being told that what I wanted was no longer available she gave me an attitude for not knowing what I wanted to order. She then looked at me and asked what I wanted to eat and I responded. I don't know yet. She walked away and seemed very annoyed. Bottom line, she was very impatient and rude for no reason. one of the best Jamaican! Their beef and cheese patties are amazing! Chicken curry was good! Their mango bottled drinks was awesome!

The ladies were nice but their food is ridiculous and over priced !! Got fried chicken and the piece were so small , it was a large platter and the nerve to only have 4 pcs .. I wished I took pictures to show not exaggerating... the oxtail I order was more bones than meat ... 2019 is almost over and I gotta say this place and the meal I received today is in my top 5 best list. The spinach patty was outstanding and flavorful, not greasy in the least bit. The curried Chicken was in a delicious brothy sauce meat fell off the bone. Dirty rice and beans outstanding. Plantains sweet and juicy fried perfectly. Food was excellent. Had oxtail and curry chicken and it was delicious. Only negative is parking is very difficult (very few spots in the front) and had to wait in line for a while as they are very busy! Staff was friendly even though they were so busy. Will definitely be returning try more of their dishes. read more

I'm glad this Golden Krust opened! I've been here at least 5 times. Food is pretty good, large space inside compared to other ones I've been to. Parking is tight to maneuver, especially on the Westbound side to squeeze by/turn around but there is parking on both sides. It's been pretty busy since it opened, which is good, though sometimes often there's a line of people, service can be a little slow. And there's lunch specials available weekday betw 11am-3pm on their brown stew chicken, curry chicken, curry goat. But I don't see how they could speed it up, since there's just one tray of each dish at a time, and the dishes are all next to each other, so it's not setup like multiple servers can maneuver around each other to pack food quicker if multiple people order oxtail, or jerk chicken, can only spoon each dish one at a time. Service is good, the ladies and man I've seen there are nice, pleasant. The popularity though means the food turnaround/replacement of food is pretty fresh. Also FYI sometimes the patty choices can be limited by evening bc they've sold out of some, but they offer a good selection. I've had vegetable, chicken, jerk chicken, shrimp, and the various beef patties so I've tried most. Beef patties are popular with customers but my go-to is usually the veg patty or chicken, with a delish coco bread. When I've had entrees I've tried curry shrimp, bbq wings, brown stew chicken, most recently curry tofu. Love that they had a tofu option. Their oxtail seems very popular also, I haven't had it at this location but their entree dishes taste good and seem pretty popular in general. read more

The food is "warm" and the workers don't pay attention to directions . If a customer says they want WHITE RICE loud & clear 3 times why are you still putting rice & peas ?? They are also very stingy with the gravy . Why order dry oxtail with no gravy ?? Just rude all around . If people are paying $15+ for a meal they should receive what they're asking for just saying ‍ & this hasn't happened just once . Customer service area definitely needs work . I just left the restaurant from picking up my to go order in these trying times. Ordering over the phone was a pleasant experience, the woman who took my order was patient and gracious. I ordered 2 jerk chicken meals as well as a stew chicken meal. I recommend getting gravy on the jerk chicken as it can be a little dry but it has a great smoky flavor. The stew chicken is absolutely delicious. Overall they supply generous amounts of food for the price. I will definitely be returning. read more

It is okay. My main issue is the lonnnng wait. They have to streamline the way they do order and checkout. They have enough people it seems like to fill the orders while another person or two rings. I just order patties and I just have to wait way too long. I am used to the one in Orange and it is just run better. My personal favorite is Krusts and they never have them. I have not gone over to veggie patties and they run out of them too. Last time, they had only one left, i wanted three. The time before they had none left..I had to settle for spinach. The patties are not very hot and somehow they taste old. I love the Golden Krust in Orange, they always have Krust, if they run out, they tell you how long it will be..it is hot and tastes fresh. This is just more convenient as it is on my way home from work. I don't think I will frequent it though. read more

Golden Krust-8/29/19 I've had their food one other time from a location on Main St. in Orange, NJ and was not impressed at all with the flavor or quality. Seeing as how this is a new store on Route 22 in Union, I was hopeful things might be different at this location. The people were all very pleasant and courteous (always a welcome thing) and the portion of food seemed reasonable for the price. However, the jerk chicken I ordered was dry and not very flavorful...the same with the rice and beans. The plantains were steamed not fried but also dry! The cabbage, however, was quite good; nicely put together. I may go again to try another dish but I was very disappointed with my favorite dish, the jerk chicken. I think they can do a better job on the jerk chicken. P.S. Had a "spicy" beef patty and a chicken patty as well...there was absolutely nothing "spicy" about the beef patty! Maybe I was given the wrong patty. read more
