Finally got to try out Tian Tian / Golden Palace which used to be New Fortune years ago. Came here with my family on Sunday for brunch. Tons of parking & walked in with no wait. Place was fairly busy but not crowded. Maybe because of the time change and people still waking up. Immediately sat down, server got our drinks. Dim Sum carts were immediately at our table - all fresh and hot. We ordered dumplings, xiao long bao, shrimp & pork human, red bean sesame balls, deep fried squid, noodles and Chinese brocolli. Tian Tian Golden Palace is one of the few dim sum spots in Austin. They serve all day dimsum and have a large variety of chinese dishes. Service is very fast and I got my food order quickly. Large dining area so they can accommodate large parties. In-depth food review + breakdown: 1) Chicken Feet - Pretty good actually! It was my first time properly eating chicken feet, and it has made me like it 2) Truffle Siu Mai - I enjoyed the truffle they had on top. I do wish they put a bit more. It is a normal siu mai ( I don't think it's the best. Not very flavorful ) 3) Chive dumplings - This was too oily unfortunately 4) Peking Duck - The presentation is very nice. Thin wrapper not buns. Good duck sauce, so flavor overall was good, but when I tried the duck itself I found that it was a bit gamey (?) like it had a strong taste to it... 5) Barbecue pork - very tender melt in your mouth! not too fatty which i enjoyed. And the sauce is a sugary sweet glaze. good flavors all around 6) Garlic Eggplants - Good texture and flavor! Very very oily though 7) Salted Egg Yolk Sesame Balls - I like this one because it's very unique. Normally salted egg yolk filling is not paired with a sesame ball exterior, but it had a slight crisp on the outside making way to a chewy mochi like sesame ball interior and then BAM that warm gooey burst of sweet salted egg yolk liquid. They've been in their soft opening phase for months and finally have grand opened in August. I came for lunch and I have to say they have one of the best Beef Chow Fun (Dry Style) in Austin. It's on special for lunch too. The noodles are prefection. Not to overly sauced or dry. Just enough wok hei too ( very rare to get good wok hei in Austin ). I also got some tea ($2) and some pork and shrimp shumai. The shumai here was pretty good. Not bad lunch for about $21 bucks too. Left feeling satisfied. Friyayyyy Dim Sum and this is my second one for the week! Came here with my soul sister and her friend and I was skeptical at first from the reviews but what do I know! This is the most valued great food for your money! Nice service, attentive staff, efficient system, no wait on tables, food came on time well cooked and the tables are big! I'm so happy that authentic dim sum has made it back to the OG Asiatown! We went for brunch on a Sunday, so it was pretty busy, but thankfully we were able to be seated and served pretty quickly. As expected for any dim sum brunch, the food was served on carts, and we pointed to whatever appealed to us. Its dangerous because everything is delicious and if you're not careful you can end up ordering everything on the menu and not know what you're spending! But really- everything was delicious and made fresh at the restaurant. The soup dumplings, fried taro balls, fried shrimp balls, siu mai , turnip cake, and har gow were all well seasoned. I didn't find that I needed to add any soy sauce to most of the dishes because they were salty enough. But help yourself to the good chili sauce. I was especially surprised at the dessert pastries, which are also made in house. The flaky bun filled with warm egg custard was amazing, with the perfect texture. The egg tarts came out hot, and it just melted in my mouth. Not overly sweet. I went out of my normal comfort zone and tried the durian filled puff pastry- and I was surprised to find that it was so yummy! If you find yourself in OG Asiatown, this is the place to visit. I've been to Golden Palace twice and both times were consistently good. It's located where New Fortune 1 used to be. My buddy is from Hong Kong and he said Golden Palace is the best dim sum in Austin. We ordered the squid ink har gow, but I couldn't tell if it was gluten free or not. We ordered a half and half tea mixture of pu-er and chrysanthemum. Minus one star because the carts were heavily loaded with carbs. There weren't a whole lot of non gluten protein options available. We decided on a family dinner around 8 that night and were craving seafood. We ordered a medium-sized lobster, pepper steak, salt & pepper shrimp, plus a few appetizers and sides. The food came out quickly, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The salt & pepper shrimp (with the shell on) was especially delicious--definitely a must-try. The lobster was also a highlight, cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. Service was friendly and attentive, the restaurant was clean, and parking was easy since it's located in a shopping center. A lot of people come here for their weekend dim sum, but dinner is where they really shine. Because of their big round tables, his is a great place to bring big groups and eat great food family style. Food was average. We had siu mai, BBQ pork rice rolls, steamed BBQ pork buns, fried pork dumplings, soup dumplings, and egg tarts. Everything lacked flavor, the soup dumplings hardly had any soup in them, and the egg tarts tasted mostly like butter instead of that yummy vanilla custard flavor. 3.7/4 stars. I didn't expect the golden chicken to come out hot or anything so that was fine since it's usually served somewhat chilled with scallion and ginger. However, the other dishes were too cold including the chowfun. Didn't taste too fresh. The bbq pork had great flavors but I wish they served it hot. The shrimp rolls were mediocre and somewhat soggy. Finally - Austin once again has a banquet hall style dim sum with carts. Tian Tian tries really hard to go for the authentic experience. If I'm honest, the carts are slow and clunky. We sat at the edge of the dance floor and I saw literally every cart-pusher struggling to push the cart. The food needs to come out quicker and stay warm. We had a pleasant experience and given the limited options in Austin, I'm sure we'll be return guests at some point. read more

I guess they won a bonus point for extra convenience because they have both dim sum and peking duck (I haven't seen any good place having these both on the menu). Dim sum was ok, not spectacular but pretty promising. Peking duck was actually good, I can see our families coming here for that more often. We came on Monday lunch and were seated right away, the staff was very nice and helpful. The carts, on the other hand, can be improved. They have only a few dishes and also not very efficient on the routes, our table was skipped a few times. We were waiting for a specific dish for a long time and couldn't help but asking the waiters to help. They were so nice and helped us pick up the dish directly from the kitchen bar so we didnt have to wait much longer. So, i would say the food itself was only 3 stars but the staff and the location made up for it. read more

This was the best dim sum I tried in Austin, but that's not saying much. I went on a Saturday so there wasn't a wait, but it was pretty crowded. The staff were friendly and it is there carts. They didn't have all the dim sum items I was expecting like taro dumplings (or at least I didn't see them on the carts). The char siu bao were delicious, the bread was sweeter. The shumai was yummy and the Cheung Fun was delicious too. We had to ask for the Cheung Fun cause they weren't on the carts. I wished they brought the cart with the veggies to us. I think being sat near the back of the restaurant, they kinda forget that we are there. It's definitely pricey and I didn't see a price for each dish. I have very low expectations for Dim Sum outside of Hong Kong and where I usually get it on this continent - California, Canada, NYC. I was happy to know that a new dim sum place would be taking over this space where the old New Fortune was. Visually, the place looks authentic - the design is what I expect from a dim sum place. It's bright and well-lit, spacious, and not cramped. The queue system is simple and worked well - entering your name and phone number on a tablet and you can access a link to see your place in line and also get a text when it's time to come back. We arrived on a Sunday around 12:30pm and ended up getting seated closer to 2pm. I suggest coming when it opens at 10am so you don't have to wait. Otherwise, it wasn't a big deal because there's a good amount in that complex to do while you wait. We ended up getting boba and doing some grocery shopping. About a month in, I guess it was still under its soft opening. Things still weren't as smooth as they could have been. There are a few dim sum carts that circle around, and you can order other items from the menu. The dim sum selection did not seem that extensive, not sure if that will change when the soft opening period is over. I would like to see some other dishes or the ability to order from a menu or checklist. Most of the bits I tried were pretty average. - Shrimp dumpling (har gow) - shrimp did not have much flavor, and the skin is way too thick - Short ribs (pai gwut) - we tried two versions. The traditional one did not have any of the black bean that it's usually prepared in, and was also sweet, which is not normal. The other ribs we tried were more like kalbi style, I think was beef with pepper sauce. - BBQ pork bun (char siu bao) - they only had the steamed version, which is the most standard and traditional but also my least favorite (I prefer the BBQ pork that's in a pastry, or in a baked bun). I did not try it but my friends said they liked it. - Sticky rice wrapped in lotus leave (Lo mai gai) - this was good and tasted right - Radish cake (lo bak go) - flavor was good, I liked that it had a looser texture so it wasn't overly dense and floury. The one highlight for me were the Sesame Balls (jeen dui), which are fried sweet filled glutenous rice balls that are rolled in sesame. These were filled with red bean paste, but I prefer ones filled with lotus seed paste. However, the ones here were fresh and hot out of the kitchen and had a great light, chewy texture. Usually when it gets cold, the texture becomes more dense so it was a treat to have the lighter texture. Off the menu, we also ordered the Beef chow fun (gon chau ngau ho), and it was good. It had the right taste and texture. Without many dim sum options in Austin, you can't be too picky. The real trick is knowing which places do which dishes better or uniquely, and pick accordingly to your tastes or cravings. Although the dim sum options were lacking, there were some glimmers of hope with certain dishes. And I would be open to trying out more of the dinner menu to see how that fares. read more

Perhaps one of my worse experience as a customer in a restaurant. Was greeted by a host and was promptly seated at my table. While placing the menus, the host spilled soy sauce on the table by accident and used one of the napkins that was already in the table and wiped the soy sauce. She apologized, but did not replace the napkin so I was left with no napkins. I was then told my server will be right with us. As a typical dim sum restaurant there are dim sum carts, so we were being served the food, but our server was still yet to be found. We already had 5 plates of food in front of us and about 10-15 minutes has passed since being sat and still no one came up to us except the guy that was pushing the dim sum cart around which was the only helpful person. Everyone else seems to be too occupied talking to each of their coworkers, just standing around staring at their iPad as if they were doing something and many people stopped by this one table and literally talked for more than 7 minutes each time. Besides the points, no one came to check up on us or offered us anything to drink. The food was cold, the chicken feet were stuck together along with the oil. None of the food was fresh and everything was overly sweet with sugar. The only time we received fast service was when they dropped off the check and everyone came all at once to clear our table asking if we were done with each plate. If only they had spent more time attending and serving tables as they would have clearing them, this place might have a chance. I want to give this place a try and had very high hopes even though my expectations were low. But was left with huge disappointment Honestly would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

We came to Tian Tian this past Sunday for our second visit. Our first time was during their grand opening, and as most people know, openings can be chaotic, especially for dim sum with high weekend volume. This trip was much smoother, and I'm glad we came back to give it another chance. We ended up arriving during the busiest Sunday rush, and the restaurant and surrounding shopping center were packed. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, I would recommend coming around 2 PM to avoid the peak crowd. You sign in on a waitlist at the front; we were a party of two and waited under 30 minutes. The staff is very friendly, and you can tell they work together to keep everything moving. It's a high-volume environment, so your server may not be able to provide full attention the entire time, but with dim sum service and rotating carts, that's expected and didn't bother us -- we were more focused on the food. We ordered quite a bit and enjoyed nearly everything. Highlights for us: * Stir-Fried Green Beans with Garlic: Fresh, flavorful, slightly savory. Best enjoyed with rice if you're sensitive to salt. * Singapore Noodles: One of our favorites -- I could easily eat a large bowl of this alone. * Chinese Sausage Fried Rice: Tasty, though the sausage does have a slight fermented-sweet profile that may be an acquired taste. We liked it. * Soup Dumplings: Not our top item, but still enjoyable with a nice broth and well-filled pork. * Har Gow and Shumai: Always dim sum essentials -- these were generously filled and had great texture. * Congee (Porridge): Smooth, comforting, and surprisingly satisfying. Great for kids or anyone who enjoys a softer, hearty dish. * Cattle Tripe and Beef Tripe: Tender and seasoned well -- great if you enjoy these cuts. * Tofu Skin Rolls (with pork and shrimp): Very filling and full of flavor. * Chicken Feet in Oyster Sauce (took these to go): Held up well even reheated later that night. We also appreciated that the food still tasted great when reheated at home. Overall, this was a very good dim sum experience. The quality, consistency, and variety were all there. Showed up around 10:45a on a Sunday during opening weekend and waited just under an hour for an 8-person table, which was a bit longer than I was expecting given how large the place is but I won't hold it against them. I imagine the hype will die down in a couple months and wait times will be a bit more "normal". Honestly, it's probably advisable to just wait a bit before making a visit as many things were unavailable. Most seafood dishes were not available to order and they didn't even have jasmine tea which I found a bit strange (though they did offer a chrysanthemum oolong blend which I really enjoyed and would get again over jasmine). All of the standard dim sum items were solid and what you would expect from a typical dim sum spot in Dallas or Houston. I can't recall anyone really having any complaints. Overall, they're definitely a step level (or two) above the other more traditional dim sum option in town (Shanghai). I can't see how Shanghai will be able to stay in business now that Tian Golden Palace has opened. read more

We loved the Dallas location, especially their turnip cake stir fry, so we're excited to try Tian. I would say this is on par with Houston dim sum! Having the rolling cart experience in Austin feels comforting. Cart attendees are polite and remember if you want something to return with it when ready. There was plenty of seating at 10:30am on a Sunday. We did feel that the multiple attempts to upsell lobster, congee, and frozen items felt a bit pushy and one printed menu with the specials and one overall ask would have sufficed. Solid custard bun and egg tart options. The flavor in the soup dumpling was good but the soup didn't retain in the wrapper as it's supposed to. Other dim sum items were up to standard quality. They didn't have the turnip cake stir fry from the Dallas location and have a bit of tweaking to do to match the quality of that location, which I consider a 5-star one. We went on 3/2/2025 and everyone working was so friendly. Because we had a large party, 20% was automatically added. I think that's why our service was subpar. The sesame chicken was amazing, but the recommended black truffle fried rice at $18 dollars felt more like a money grab and little flavor and was a huge disappointment. I ordered the Peking duck from Golden Palace in Austin for $58, and what we received was absolutely not Peking duck. Instead of the traditional preparation -- crispy skin, carved slices, steamed buns, and proper accompaniments -- we were given what was clearly just a basic roasted duck thrown into a to-go box. It felt like a bait-and-switch scam and theft by deception. If you're looking for authentic Peking duck, or even just value for your money, save yourself the disappointment and go somewhere else like Bamboo or Din Ho. For $58, I shouldn't walk away feeling like I paid fine-dining prices for something closer to a generic roasted duck entrée. Very upsetting experience and will spread the word.
