I have been to this restaurant before. They were decent Chinese food. Not sure what happened today, the chef put tons of sugar into both spicy dishes the server recommended. The spicy chicken and the intestines tasty crazy sweet. I'm really disappointed with these two dishes today. The bean curd is fine. Service was good other than the awful recommendations. Plenty of space to sit. Good for family and friends. If I'm back, will def not order these two dishes!!! read more

Last night when my fiancé wanted to order Chinese food, I was apprehensive. And I am so glad that we ended up ordering from China family anyways. One of the best Chinese foods I've eaten in a while! The order of the few different dishes, and all of those were delicious. We got the sesame chicken - 10/ 10, the vegetarian lo mein - 9/ 10 and the homestyle tofu - 8/10. This morning I'm so excited to eat the leftovers, really well done with the flavors, portions and variety in the menu! Would definitely order again to try other dishes!! read more

Best wonton soup I've had - the wontons have a lot of green onion in the filling and they taste really fresh. I'm also obsessed with the garlic eggplant - the sauce is addictive and the baby eggplants are soft on the inside. The griddle chicken has Szechuan pepper and had the right level of numbing spice. I liked the mapo tofu but I was hoping it would be spicier. The service was very friendly and the portions are large - definitely enough for lunch the next day. If you like Old Thousand, you'll love this place. The space is also cute - they left up the murals from the previous restaurant, which are fun. read more

A delicious find in Austin! Of all the places I've tried in Austin, I'd recommend China Family to those wishing to experience an authentic Chinese menu. For those who are less adventurous, there is a host of "Americanized" dishes such as General Tso's Chicken and Orange Chicken. For my friends and I, however, we ordered the Sweet&Sour Fish, Pork Intestines, and Fried Chicken (Sichuan Style). Everything was delicious and reminded us of home. We enjoy eating here. It's a smallish place that usually isn't full. Their spicy dishes are actually spicy and that's a big plus for us. Service is always efficient and the food comes out fast. The menu includes most Chinese classics and a nice assortment of specialty dishes. Servings are big. In fact, we always order one dish and split it and still have some leftovers to take home. It's sort of quiet in the restaurant. But it's well decorated and welcoming. Not really a "special occasion" place but nice for a weekday evening out. read more

Ordered through Lunchdrop and got Hunan Chicken. The rice was good and VERY necessary to go with the dish. The chicken was a mix of chunks and little bits with broccoli and bamboo. The China Family on Airport Blvd is fantastic so decided to give this one a try. The restaurant is newer and cleaner than the other location. Staff was also very friendly. We ordered a few dishes to try and this is how I'd rate it: - Hot and sour soup - 5/5. Very flavorful and piping hot! - Beef in chili oil - 4/5. Great flavor and beef was tender. - Fried lotus root - 3/5. Too much batter than what I'm used to. - Dan Dan Noodles - 3/5. Didn't like the yellow egg noodle they used. Also a bit bland. I truly wish I could speak of the service and taste of China Family but I can't. It seems that the last two times I've ordered for delivery I don't get my order. When calling to inquire about said order, the person answering the phone doesn't understand why I'm calling. The delivery person they use (not from Uber or any other delivery site) doesn't speak English and can't take delivery instructions. This is the second and last time I'll ever order from here. Open a little later than most Chinese food restaurants, I ran into this gem while desperately seeking food. The interior was classic style with wooden tables and a lovely staff. Very friendly. The person who took my order was super patient with me. Also, they have Dan Dan noodles! I took my food Take Away, so here is the run down of some standard food- 1.) Beef Egg Roll - very good , nice crispy not too oily. Good flavor. 2.) Shrimp Tempura- Pretty Descent, I like the longer heartier shrimp, but hey it was good 3.) Crab Rangoon - Very Well Done-Lots of cheese, not too much dough 4.) Dan Dan Noodles! - SECOND best in Austin after A Plus A Sichuan. This location even offers both the "soup version and the "dry version" Well balanced. 5.) Mapo Tofu- This hurts me to sag but this was at best mediocre. The Tofu did not hold any shape, the sauce was super runny, and the leaks/Lemongrass did not help the texture-it was more an obstacle than help. The Ginger was over powering (Even though I asked for no ginger). However, they used black beans, which is great because many modern day restaurants omit this necessary component. 6.) Eggplant with Minced Pork- This is now the best in town. Request no Ginger. The sauce is not overly Spivey, the eggplant is cooked perfectly, and the use of the sauce is in proportion to the dish! This eggplant with minced pork Now replaces Asia Cafes, only because of the balance of the sauce. 7:) House Special Beef-Very Very Tender Beef, Good Flavor, one of the best beef Chinese dishes I have had in a while. Many of the other the see Restaurants have beef that is not tender. This was well cooked! Overall, If you haven't tried this place, please do. We went to China Family for the very first time today and it has become one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in ATX. The restaurant is located on a big plaza with plenty of parking spaces. The interior is clean and neat and they have some cute Chinese decorations on the wall and ceilings. We were a party of 8 and there's another larger party size right next to us (about 20 ppl). It got quite busy the whole night, with 80-85% occupancy and many delivery and takeouts. However, there was only one server but she somehow was able to manage all the tables well. Obviously there were wait times here and there when we tried to get her but nothing too bad. Food-wise pretty on point. Their pork intestines were surprisingly fresh and yummm. I also really liked their fish and friend chicken. Will definitely keep coming back. read more

Long overdue review!! This is the best china family location in austin and i'd recommend going to this one over the downtown location or the other ones. The restaurant inside is spacious and has a lot of seatings, and the food comes out super quick. I got it to-go today and it tastes just as good as if i were to eat it there. I've tried many dishes in the past and i can't recall a single dish that was bad. One of my favorites here is the smoked pork belly with cauliflower, and the chongqing chicken- the szechuan spice is really good here. Ordered takeout here for the first time, it was very good! It came in a reusable lunch bag that kept it hot. Portions were good and everything was cooked perfectly. I ordered shrimp fried rice, egg drop soup, and egg rolls. The egg drop soup did not have veggies in it, which I appreciate! I only wish they had a lunch special with a smaller entre portion that comes with a soup and eggroll. It was a little pricey for lunch, but I would come back for dinner. read more

We came here on Christmas night and we almost left because none of the employees acknowledged us upon entering the restaurant and we waited about 10-15 mins. There were employees walking around but I thought the least they could've done is to say they are busy and that we will have to wait. Instead, we were left with wondering if they are going to serve us or what the situation is. I've been to China Family on Airport many times and it's my absolute favorite. This location doesn't seem to match up to the quality of the other location. First off, the service is the worst. From someone who doesn't expect that much from service, I found myself having to keeping looking for the waitress ever since we were sat down. The only things I need are take my orders, bring my food, and give me the check. I had to look for them and keep having to eye them down to get those things done. Besides the service being the worst I've ever had, the food was not the quality I expected either. We ordered garlic green beans and chongqing chicken. My repeated dish at China Family. The green beans flavor was good but definitely not as much wok heat as the other location and tastes more steamed. I still enjoyed the garlic green beans but the chongqing chicken was a waste for us. We basically had to pitch 3/4 of the dish because it was way too spicy. I've had the chongqing chicken more than my hands can count and it's never been that spicy. It's like they accidentally spilled too much spices and left it at that. I can barely eat 2 pieces of the chicken without my mouth being on fire. The dish was not balanced and not enjoyable. Despite the service and one of the dishes being bad, we still tipped well but I don't think I can have faith other foods here is good. I'll still go to China Family at the other location (Airport) but I will try to avoid this location at all cost because I don't want to throw away more dishes in my life. read more

An absolutely excellent Chinese restaurant. If you don't believe me, Look at the crowd. The place is packed. Packed With Chinese. * * * China Family considers itself to be Szechuan. And there are plenty of chili oil dishes on the menu. Dishes that we would call normal Szechuan are marked with two peppers. There are six pepper items on the menu. Don't say you weren't warned. There are also a ton of zero pepper items on the menu. These are absolutely nifty. I will also note - just for the record - they serve all parts of the pig here. Places that serve all parts of the pig tend to be good at everything. They also serve a little Cantonese, American Chinese and pan-Asian just for fun. And they are just as good with the crowd pleaser items as they are with the Szechuan for demanding purists items. My tablemates and I agree that they do very very superior crab rangoon. Orange beef has a firey undercurrent that makes it much more interesting than the version found on Chinese buffets. * * * This particular visit had us ordering on the scale of a Chinese Banquet. However by luck of the draw (dishes were selected somewhat randomly) there was not a chili oil or massed pepper dish anywhere on the table. On the serious Szechuan but not at all spicy side: They do a garlicky pork with bamboo shoots that is to die for. They do a scrambled eggs with tomato (Yes - that is a real Szechuan dish) which is just what it sounds like. Make that one at home. It is well worth doing. China Family's version is fine too. They do a vinegary cabbage that is more of a side dish concept. I wouldn't want it for my main course at dinner - but it cut the meat and fried dishes beautifully. Mustard Green Fish soup is absolutely excellent. This dish IS significantly spicier than that served in other excellent Chinese restaurants in town. The fish soup eater - my lovely wife - gave it a massive thumbs up. Sauteed vegetables are sauteed vegetables - but these were good sauteed vegetables. Tempura was an add-on from the pan-Asian side. Their tempura is shrimp only, small, long, narrow shrimp. The fry job is excellent. You can use the dip sauce they give you - but why bother? * * * Overall, a first rate establishment. Fine Chinese food can be had without driving all the way to the corner of 183 and Spicewood. read more

Delicious food and great portion sizes! We had a hankering for some Sichuan and decided to give this location a try. We previously tried the location at airport blvd and it was good. We ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, Sichuan Beef, and Beef Egg Roll, and ordered it all to go. The Beef Egg Roll was okay - the outside flakiness and crispness was perfect, and the filling was good but pretty standard. The portion sizes for both entrees were great bang for your buck and lasted for two solid meals, and were very flavorful. The beef was tender and my mouth was buzzing with that amazing numbness from the Sichuan peppers. It could've been more spicy, but I still enjoyed the comfortable heat level. The Dan Dan Noodles were also delicious! The only thing I would change with the entrees is that I wished there was more minced pork/topping on the Dan Dan Noodles. But aside from that, we are looking forward to ordering from China Family again! read more

I like this location rather than the other. It's bright and clean feeling. They have typical schezuan food that I love. I can't get enough mala. This is a smaller restaurant so be careful of peak times. Portions are generous. You can find American-Chinese food and more traditional dishes. They usually have one woman serving tables, she works fast and service is good. Take out has been easy as well, food is hot and ready. read more

I've reviewed China Family Highland in detail already. To be brief, China Family is one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants that Austin has to offer. This is our first time at the newest addition to the family, China Family Anderson Lane. The food tastes exactly the same as the Highland or Guadalupe location, consistency is definitely there.We ordered the Cumin Beef, Eggplant with Garlic Sauce and Fish in Special Oil. What I love the most about this location is the restaurant is fresh, clean and new. I love the ambiance that this location provides. Staff is also super friendly. This is our favorite out of the three China Family locations. We definitely will be back to try more of the expansive menu. read more

A very authentic Chinese restaurant! I was amazed by their tastes. I forgot to take pictures of all of our dishes because I was lost in eating and enjoying the foods. I didn't like 肥肠 but their dish made me love it! (Forgot to take pictures of that dish...) I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes spicy foods. If you don't like spicy, you could still give it a try as well because there are other options too. Been craving some chinese takeout. Saw this come up highly rated here on Yelp, and the menu was americanized enough for the wife (she can't handle spice). Ordered General Tso's, house fried rice, house lo mein, beef egg rolls and fried dumplings for take out. Can't judge on the service, as the wife picked it up on the way home from work. The food was hot when it got home. And that's the best I can say about it. When you spend about $75 (including tip), you expect better than you'd get at a buffet. The food itself was well prepared, but it was just bland. The General Tso's was ok, good heat level, but just ok. The fried rice and lo mein were about as exciting as the steamed white rice that came with the chicken. The fried dumplings were dry and mealy as were the egg rolls. Should have gone to the crappy chinese buffet. Would have had about as good a meal, at half the cost. And that would have included almond cookies. read more

I am big fan China family highland. They recently opened this new location. We went there last Sat, but it was too busy, we couldn't eat there, and today, we went again at 11 am, finally had lunch at this new location. In the new location, they have two dishes which are special, one is bullfrogs, one is sweet sour fish, really good, even now, when I write this review, my water is still watering. Highly recommend! That is not acceptable--this is my favorite dish to order and I won't be getting this in the future. It's almost a deal-breaker. Waving my hands for over 10 times, someone finally came to our table. We tried to order some dishes on the small blackboard (we ordered it before and liked it). The young lady didn't let me finish my words. Behaving rude and impolite, said they can't cook these dishes today. While we were thinking to order something else on the menu, she went away immediately to make an order for the other table. After ordering, another 35 mins was wasted here to wait for the food. Food was okay. My husband is very generous, still left 20% tips. Food just okay, but customer service is so terrible. Will never come back China family in this location. read more

This place strives for the good food bad service reputation, but ultimately it's just meh food bad service. Since their opening I've tried eating here six or seven times with different groups of friends to support Asian businesses but I give up. Don't order for pickup or they'll make you wait more than 20 min after your food is ready and sitting on the counter regardless of how many times you ask them to check. Just do the extra ten minute drive to the airport blvd location, where you'll get slightly better food & service. Or check out bamboo house instead for better food overall. There are two menus: one for the people who should just walk across the parking lot to Panda Express. There's barely ever seating during busy hours because the new location draws a lot of local Chinese from the north who used to eat at the UT location, also because the dining area is tiny, and because they're kinda the only okay Chinese food in town besides three gorges or bamboo house. (Meaning they may just be shifting business away from their airport location in the long term once the locals get tired of the crap service and stop returning.) To be fair to the servers, there's usually just one server who acts like they need a bathroom break. There are Chinese chains worldwide like haidilao that have worked hard to rid themselves of the bad service reputation in order to reach that next level of expansion and customer loyalty, but this isn't one of them. read more

Super cute decor!! they have barely been open a couple months and the owners are very enthusiastic! they are very proud of their food and you can tell by how delicious it is. The portions are huge, so i think they are meant to be served family style because they are about 2-3 servings. The prices for entrees are pretty high but if you just order one entree and one rice/noodle you'd be under $30. i'm sure 2-3 people could eat very comfortably from that. flavor was amazing on both dishes! we got free crab rangoons because we visited during their soft opening! the owner told me that business was rather slow but they definitely deserve the hype! it's very very very good chinese which is so hard to find in austin for some reason read more
