Veggie dumplings & half eaten pancake
    Katie G.

Really enjoyed my first experience at Lins! I had made a reservation only for 2, not realizing I'd have to bring my baby, and they were very accommodating. It's a small, cozy spot and the food is beautifully presented and delicious. They have a few options that can be made vegan and I tried the fried veggie dumplings and scallion pancake. It's a bit pricy but I did enjoy it a lot :)

So glad I got to stop in today for a solo date. I arrived around 11:45am and it was still empty inside (started to get busy around 12:30pm) I asked for a table but the hostess said since I'm alone I would need to sit at the bar. I didn't want to and asked to be seated outside instead. It was pretty on the patio and hot. Fans with better circulation is a must here. Besides this annoying hiccup. I enjoyed my meal and the outdoor people watching. I love the soup dumplings even though today's didn't taste very fresh... I also order Kung Pao beef which was fine and came with white rice and egg drop soup of hot & sour soup. I went for hot & sour. It was the only thing I didn't eat. Lovely wall mural on the side of the building a beautiful set up inside and out reminds me of a few restaurants in San Francisco! My feedback is for their workers not to be so judgmental and biased to solo diners!

4.5/5 I enjoyed the soup dumplings here! Didn't try the other dishes except dumplings, lobster cheese puffs, and a side of their unique bun that looked like a hedgehog . The lobster cheese puffs were delicious, slightly crispy on the outside and creamy inside, similar to a crab Rangoon except not as crispy. Soup dumplings were good. Outside wasn't too dough-y and the broth flavor was great, not too salty and well balanced. Their cat dessert/sorbet was very cute and insta worthy but didn't taste very good. It was too bland and not sweet enough for me. The portions were also a bit small for the price. Service was good, our waiter was attentive and checked in often. My friend has a lot of different food allergies and he really paid attention.

Perfect ambiance for my birthday dinner, classic and chic. Low lighting for a warm, slow evening. Lychee martinis and sake with conversation. The food is EXCELLENT and definitely ask questions about portions. Lo mein can be shared amongst the table! We ordered several appetizers and shared and experienced many menu options. Highly recommend and great for a date night or slow evening. The server was excellent, he brought me a little sorbet cat for my birthday!

Came here for lunch recently and really loved it! They have great prices on their lunch menu and everything was phenomenal. We started off with the Szechuan spicy cucumbers and soup dumplings and both were perfect. The cucumbers were refreshing but had a nice spice and acidity to them and the soup dumpling wrappers were the perfect texture. I ordered the king pao shrimp and it was packed with so much flavor! The hot and sour soup was also very yummy but definitely the oiliest hot and sour soup I've ever had. Service here was also good and the interior of the restaurant was cute! Definitely will be back :)

Fabulous experience! Our son made a weekday lunch reservation ahead of time. Highly recommend reservations and the earlier, the better. Parking was limited behind the building and is shared with other businesses. This place was super cute! You can tell every decor detail was thoughtfully put together. The exterior building mural was amazing - Asian street scenes. Loved the cute Asian table cups, table decor, and the bathroom was another story lol, the toilet was a full on bidet. Toilet seat opened up automatically when I came up to it. And the paper towels were luxuriously thick and soft, not the cheap stuff. Our server was attentive, accommodating , and understanding. We told her of our special needs and she answered our questions. We all ordered from their lunch menu- which included choice of soup and steamed rice. I ordered the crispy shrimp with jalapeños. Perfect! Extra large plumpy shrimp with bits of sliced jalapeños and cooked veggies. Definitely not spicy or saucy. I enjoyed my choice of soup- egg drop, comfort soup for the soul. Our table shared an order of soup dumplings and shu mai. The soup dumplings were fabulous- an explosion of soup in each delicately wrapped package. Everyone at our table enjoyed their dishes! Overall, excellent food and service with cute decor!

Came here on Monday foe lunch. We arrived just before the crowd, at 11:30 and got nice seats inside by the window. It was raining snd the inside of this restaurant was warm and cozy. We ordered a variety of items. My favorites were the duck pancake and the soup dumplings. I will make a stop here every time I visit Austin if I can!

Kicked off Lunar New Year with delicious dumplings and noodles. This was not an original idea as we were only able to snag a 5 pm reservation slot on a Wednesday at the last minute. Loved that the restaurant was decorated with Lunar New Year decor! Food came out quick and was hot and delicious. Most notable dishes were the shrimp har gow and mustard greens with minced garlic.

The best dim sum I've ever had! Dumplings had so much flavor. I enjoyed everything we ordered. Def recommend checking this spot out! You'll be in for a treat!

Perfect spot for a date night with the low lighting, intimate seating and elegant decor. Ordered their soup dumplings, scallion pancake, dummy rice and pipa tofu. The appetizers came out quickly with the entrees taking a bit longer. My favorites of the night were the pipa tofu which was shrimp wrapped in tofu and in this flavorful, spicy curry. The dummy rice is generously filled with meat. The curry that the scallion pancake comes with is also so so flavorful and aromatic. I've had better soup dumplings- the meat in this had a weird texture personally. Service wise, our guy checked in on us a few times but seemed a bit distracted- kind of expected better service for the price point. On the whole, food is flavorful and portions are good!

I've been here twice now, gotten Dim Sum both times so I can't speak to the entrees they have. When I'm in town to visit family for the holidays, this place is turning into a tradition! The place is small inside and has been 100% full both times I've gone, so make sure to make a reservation! The place is cozy and bustling and has a nice outdoor seating area as well, but like I said, both inside and outside are usually fully packed. I gotta say, even with the small bites I always leave stuffed. The soup dumplings, the grilled char sui, the eggrolls, the specialty cocktails... it's all so good. We were there during the holidays so got to try the festive drinks. I tried 4 I think and they were all super good. The service here is fast and friendly. Definitely a place to hit if you're in the area.

I get the hype! It's NOT like Din Tai for those who know.... So don't go in with that idea.. its similar but different with their own twist. Got there the day after xmas at 430 when they opened, already a line. Like others have said make resos! We didn't, it was just me and my son. Got a seat as a walk in right away at the small bar. Service.. meh. 5/10. The wait staff behind the bar wasn't the most friendly, welcoming or attentive. I was hoping for a bit more interest of a hello, is this your 1st time. None of that. Left on our own to look at google and yelp food pix. We got only dim sum: -cucumber salad (good, smokey, umami) 8/10 -roasted duck pancake 10/10 -scallion pancake with curry dip 9/10 -dan dan noodle 6/10 Roasted duck and scallion pancake was the 2 best things we ordered. Plenty for 2!

Pro-tip: opt for a table inside, unless you're seated on the bar top of the patio. It gets quite crowded, so if you have a large party, make sure to reserve ahead of time! There's a great party room in the back. We sat in the patio and the door kept swinging into our friend. The food was fantastic! From the soup dumplings and scallion pancakes with curry, to the orange peel beef, rocky smoked duck, and the hakka eggplant, to finally the chocolate dumplings (holie molie), our array of foods hit all the spots we needed to get hit. The hakka eggplant and chocolate dumplings happened to be the surprise favorites. In fact, we only ordered the chocolate dumplings because the rose cheesecake was so small to share. The dumplings come with pipette shooters of raspberry sauce that pair so well with the warm chocolate that pours out upon your first bite (so treat this the same way you would any soup dumpling). Lin does an exquisite job at presentation and clearly cares about the small details (okay, the flashy details, too -- such as the seasonal holiday decorations outside and their porch accents). A wonderful neighborhood visit, can't wait to go back.

Lin Asian Bar & Dim Sum Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Lin Asian Bar & Dim Sum

    What about Parking?

    Please visit our website. https://www.linasianbar.com/parking-information/

    Do they serve good sushi?

We did not order sushi so I can't help you with that question. Everything else we have eaten at Li Asian has been fabulous.

Is it real dim sum from a cart or do you have to (fake) order from a menu?

You order everything from the menu, but each piece is handmade, and you can watch them in the open kitchen.

Are the soup dumplings gluten free?

    Nope

How many people does the private back room seat?

    14 people

Do they serve dim sum all day long on weekdays?

They are open for lunch and dinner on weekdays - you can check their hours of operation online. They serve dim sum at all times however for weekdays and dinner it is a select dim sum menu (showed on web). Weekend Brunch is the only time they will…

Is patio area outdoor or indoor? If it rains or gets really windy will it affect the patio area?

Small outdoor patio. Has some covering but if wind kicks up rain or it rains sideways you could get wet.

    Is there validated parking?

The is very limited parking behind the restaurant. Otherwise there is street parking

    Is Apple Pay accepted?

    It is not.

    Do you serve alcohol?

    Yes

    Is carryout available?

    Yes I believe

Does Lin's do pick up for dim sum over the weekend?

You will have to call them directly. They have limited dim sum hours throughout the week and weekend.

What kind of meat is in the Shanghai soup dumplings?

It isn't worth having, if you want to enjoy your meal.

Is there outdoor patio area dog friendly?

    Yes it is.

What's the average cost for two people eating dinner?

Of course, it depends on what dishes you get and how much you eat. Keep in mind that the portion for the entrees is not very large. If you get an order of soup dumplings and 2 entrees, it should come out to about $40 including tax and tip.

Do they use MSG? I see several reviewers felt certain it was used. Perhaps just in certain dishes? The restaurant responded to their reviews thanking them for their reviews without any clarification re: MSG.

MSG occurs naturally in many foods but I was told by staff as soon as we sat down that they don't use MSG, meaning they don't add any outside of what naturally occurs. And in general, people need to get over their fear of MSG. When it comes down to…

The standout was the shrimp pancake that had a really great texture and flavor. The snow crab ball had a strange texture with shrimp surrounding the snow crab claw. The Chinese Sticky Rice is always a favorite. Also ordered the Truffle Egg Fried rice and Birds Nest with Seasonal Vegetable. The Truffle rice is so flavorful like a flavor explosion in your mouth. The Birds Nest is made with fried potato shreds which contain the a variety of vegetables including cauliflower, peppers, mushrooms and asparagus. The nest is also edible and has a crunchy texture. The presentation of the food is amazing and everything came out hot and fresh. The flavors were on point, and you can tell there's attention to detail in the preparation. The place reminded me of Ling Wu in the Grove area because the decor looked similar. Maybe they are owned by the same people? Firstly, I was impressed with the fact they had a FREE parking garage nearby since this is in the downtown area and next to Whole Foods. It took me a bit to find it as I'm directionally challenged, but I did and was just running a bit late. We really enjoyed the food and cocktails. I got the Singaporean noodles, a mezcal drink, and a sake. The serving size was big so I had plenty to take home. We shared many of the other dumplings and dim sum items. Everything was very good! The place wasn't too crowded so after we paid our bill we sat around for a while longer to chat and catch up. Usually someone would come by to see if we needed or wanted anything further, but no one did so we kept chatting and left. I'm happy to know of a central location with easy parking as a future place to meet people. I wish they had a happy hour because the bill for 3 of us was unexpectedly higher than usual.

This might be the best dim sum in Austin now…read more I actually had never eaten at Shanghai having grown up in Austin. I didn't have their food until around COVID when we got dim sum to go a few times. I remember at that time thinking it was pretty unremarkable, and also quite expensive for dim sum. Fast forward to this year. I'm not sure if they have new ownership or new cooks, but the difference is night and day. I've been a couple of times now for dine-in in dim sum and each time was awesome. You can order off the menu or by QR code. They definitely focus on the classics but they're all executed really well. Standouts for me were the pan fried turnip cake, full of turnip and super sweet, the shrimp and leek pan fried dumplings, shrimp stuffed eggplant, and chili wonton. What makes them unique to me is that the food is all cooked to order and comes out hot and fresh. The fried items are crispy and hot and everything else you can tell just came straight from the kitchen. This avoids the one issue with carts which is that the food has been cooked who knows when and has just been sitting in a steam cart for an unknown amount of time. Also since you order off the menu, you can get exactly what you want instead of having to wait for a cart to come by. The service is always friendly and I've never had to wait to be seated, even on a weekend. If you haven't come here in awhile or written it off in the past, I'd encourage you to come and try it again. Right now it's a hidden gem but if more people realize how much better it is now, it might not be for long. Also bonus points for being a dim sum place that's not super far north like New Fortune 2 or Golden Palace.

The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere with lower lighting, comfortable seating, and beautiful window views that make for a relaxing dining experience. We were seated quickly, and the staff was excellent throughout our meal. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and happy to answer questions and offer recommendations. The food was so good that I barely had time to take photos before we started digging in! We ordered the soup dumplings, pork dumplings, sweet and spicy chicken with a side of white rice, and one of the beef dishes with vegetables. The soup dumplings were good, but they weren't quite as amazing as I expected based on all the reviews. The pork dumplings, on the other hand, were outstanding and one of my favorite items we ordered. The sweet and spicy chicken was absolutely delicious with great seasoning, and the beef with vegetables was equally flavorful and cooked perfectly. If you're visiting or staying in downtown Austin, I definitely recommend adding Wu Chow to your list. Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere made for a memorable dinner.
