This is definitely one of my favorite places in Austin for Asian food and soup dumplings. Definitely need to make a reservation because this place is small and always packed. When you arrive, everybody is so nice you give them your name and they get you seated right away. I ordered a drink called a signature tingling Daisy and it was so good. I definitely could've had so many but I was driving so you gotta pace yourself. We started off with the soup dumplings, which are just phenomenal. It's a must when you go. Also, for appetizers, we got the spicy cucumbers which were divine and a hot and sour soup, which was perfectly balanced and not watery. We also got a beef fried rice and let me tell you that rice is so soft and delicious. You literally dream about it the next day. I also got the pecking duck which is delicious there the skin is nice and crispy and the meat on it taste so good. We also got the Kung pow shrimp with cashews, which was delicious and the pieces of shrimp were gigantic. We also got the green beans which is were delicious. I love ordering green beans when they're cooked just like the ones I posted in the photo. Then for dessert, we got the chocolate mousse which is that little dog cake. I know it's so cute and they made it a little hard to eat because you feel bad in a weird sense. It was delicious now I will say when cutting it and realizing the inside had a raspberry filling, made it a little more crazy cause it looked like blood, but it was still so good. I made a reservation for two on Resy and discovered when we got there that it was for the bar for some reason. This could have been my mistake but I don't remember any choice in the matter. The greeter wasn't very friendly and borderline surly when I asked for more details about how to not book the bar in the future. Didn't get any explanation but fortunately, we won't have to worry about that... The food was just awful. We ordered 3-4 types of dimsum (onion pancake, soup dumplings, chu shou, fried shu mae) and three entries (orange beef, eggplant and their take on ma pao tofu) for the best tasting experience. The curry sauce for the onion pancake was probably the most flavorful dish of the night sadly. The onion pancake was way way over fried-- hard as a rock. If that's their take on onion pancake... well, it's just wrong. The soup dumplings were passable but a bit doughie and the filling was full of a lot of noticeable coagulated fat -- not clear and broth-y, with light surface droplets of oil as all delicious broths. My wife enjoyed the chu shou -- I found the filling much too overcooked and tough -- difficult to eat with chop sticks. Like a tough, overcooked meatball. The fried shu Mae were just plain inedible. My wife and I each ate one and left the rest. The included sauce was basic and too heavy. And again, over fried. There was a huge delay between our apps and our mains, like 40 minutes or so. Various bar staff apologized. It wasn't a big deal, we were in a good conversation and they were super busy but our mains were not at all worth waiting for. Small portions. WAY over sauced. WAY too salty. WAY too sweet. No distinct flavors at all. The ma pao didn't seem to have any Szechuan pepper at all. How do you miss that ? The plating of the eggplant dish was really creative but I don't eat with my eyes and it came with no instruction -- my first bite was just flavorless steamed eggplant cube -- second was mixed with one note sauce. One of the better mains IMO but it was still gloopy and pretty gross. Wife did not enjoy it. The orange beef was essentially just six or seven cubes of tough, fatty beef covered in over-the-top bitter orange peel. We each had a cube and left the rest. Honestly, give me Panda Express any day over this abject failure of a restaurant. Austin needs more Chinese but if it's anything like this place, forget it. I'd rather spend a 4h round trip to Houston and go to even a mediocre Chinese restaurant than endure another meal at this place. What a waste of $165. Edit: I wish I was making this up but I literally had to pull over to throw up on the side of the road on the way home. The food did not sit well with me. I have no underlying health conditions, am not on any medicine that would have this as a side effect and only shared one beer with my wife. I've heard lots of good things about Lin's and really wanted to love it but unfortunately it was very underwhelming. I came on a Saturday evening and it was packed. I didn't have a reservation but was luck to get a seat outside. It was fairly hot, but they had the fans running. Beware if you're sitting outside there're a lot of bugs! Food: I was recommended the soup dumplings, and got 2 cocktails to try. I was super excited to try the soup dumpling but it was a complete let down. The skin was too thick, and it felt like the dumplings were precooked so it was a little try and hard. I was also disappointed that they didn't offer black vinegar and soy sauce. It only came out with red vinegar which isn't very traditional. I got 2 cocktails- definitely pass on their milk punch it was horrible. Outside wasn't too dough-y and the broth flavor was great, not too salty and well balanced. Their cat dessert/sorbet was very cute and insta worthy but didn't taste very good. Fabulous experience! Our son made a weekday lunch reservation ahead of time. Highly recommend reservations and the earlier, the better. Parking was limited behind the building and is shared with other businesses. This place was super cute! You can tell every decor detail was thoughtfully put together. The exterior building mural was amazing - Asian street scenes. Loved the cute Asian table cups, table decor, and the bathroom was another story lol, the toilet was a full on bidet. The place is small inside and has been 100% full both times I've gone, so make sure to make a reservation! Pro-tip: opt for a table inside, unless you're seated on the bar top of the patio. It gets quite crowded, so if you have a large party, make sure to reserve ahead of time! There's a great party room in the back. We sat in the patio and the door kept swinging into our friend. The food was fantastic! From the soup dumplings and scallion pancakes with curry, to the orange peel beef, rocky smoked duck, and the hakka eggplant, to finally the chocolate dumplings (holie molie), our array of foods hit all the spots we needed to get hit. The hakka eggplant and chocolate dumplings happened to be the surprise favorites. In fact, we only ordered the chocolate dumplings because the rose cheesecake was so small to share. The dumplings come with pipette shooters of raspberry sauce that pair so well with the warm chocolate that pours out upon your first bite (so treat this the same way you would any soup dumpling). Lin does an exquisite job at presentation and clearly cares about the small details (okay, the flashy details, too -- such as the seasonal holiday decorations outside and their porch accents). I'm being generous. Yelp you don't usually let me down but I don't agree on this one. My husband made reservations on their patio a while ago because we are an immunocompromised family and though their patio is very cramped, they have fans everywhere. We asked them to turn them on and they flat out refused. I asked another person who said sure, but never turned them on. The tables are very VERY cramped. So cramped that you can't get out of your seat unless the person next to you gets out first and then they bump into the table next to them. It's Austin. We get it. No losing stars for this. They don't give you any rice or starch with any of the dishes. For example the eggplant dish is swimming in sauce but you have to spend AT LEAST $22 on rice - and that's the cheapest one. We ordered the combo fried rice for $28 instead. I continued to get more irritated because they brought out the saucy eggplant waaaay before the rice. We were done eating it by the time the rice came. The eggplant was a lovely presentation and tasted fine. Nothing special. The honey beef was ok. Not sure what the hype is about. The meat was good quality. The Kung pao was clunky and the vegetables were large cut verses diced. I kind of liked that they were bigger but there were way too many veggies and very little protein. We did not enjoy this dish and would not recommend it. The pork shank was ok. The flavor was predominantly 5 spice, which we enjoy, but somehow it was dry. I don't get it... The best thing we ate were the soup dumplings. It's $14 for 5 soup dumplings. Everything was overpriced for what you get but it's hipster Austin so I get it. Not docking stars for this either. It was a birthday celebration reservation. Nobody cared and the entire experience was just "meh". I was ready to get out of there which is not how I imagined my birthday dinner. This is my second time at Lin's, and I'd come here again and again for the dumplings - specifically the soup dumplings. The location is a little tough to find (especially the signage is not very prominent). They have parking at the back (free but only in designated spots). The restaurant has several tables inside and a few more outside too. I've dined both in and out and really depends on the weather. Service is friendly, menu is comprehensive and they have some good cocktails to try. I've had the old fashioned every time and I've been pleased. Others in my party have tried others drinks and been happy too. On this visit we got the soup dumplings, the Sui Mai, Scallion Pancake, Spicy Cucumbers. All of these were wonderful. The soup dumplings mixed with the chili oil were so yum. Remember to allow it to cool. For mains we got the Lo Mein, Orange Peel Beef, Rainbow Beef, Whole Fish, Kung Pao Chicken. The fish looked exquisite and tasted very yum. They filet it for you on the table (or you can do it yourself). The Rainbow Beef just has different color bell peppers - hence rainbow. The pieces are rather large but marinated well with soy and spices. The Orange Beef has some orange peels and has more of the orange flavor. Both were cooked perfectly - medium. I heard no complaints about the Kung Pao chicken and the Lo Mein was a good accompaniment to all the dishes. For dessert we got the chocolate dumplings - these are small dumplings with a melted chocolate filling and a small pouch with strawberry? liquid. You squeeze as much or little as you want and the strawberry and chocolate just work well together. I am definitely going to be back. I will say, the staff use a pad where they can split the bill items perfectly - very handy for a group dinner. Onto the food. We came here to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday lunch, and it was such a treat! Since moving from Houston to Austin, I hadn't found a Chinese restaurant that impressed me--until now. Even as a vegetarian with limited options, everything I tried here was fantastic! Consistency, service, and quality of food. Lin's has all the key factors. I rarely make reservations and seem to be able to get a table. Maybe once I've been turned down. It has a laid back atmosphere, you are able to have a conversation and not feel like you have to scream across your table - it's not loud, even when it's been busy. I've come here on my birthday, on a random date night, when I have guests visiting out of town- it is just a delicious treat in Austin. We tried a variety of things, the cilantro and shrimp dumplings 4/5 , Dan Dan (this had a peanut sauce we were not fans of the texture or flavor) 1/5, soup dumplings both pork and seafood (I didn't try but everyone liked them) , the green beans were crisp and flavorful 5/5, the salt and pepper shrimp o oh came with about 8 shrimp total but flavor was 5/5, there was another crispy shrimp dish which came in a sauce that we enjoyed and I think it had a few more shrimp then the previous dish, the cucumbers could have been cut a tad thinner but had great flavor4/5 , the eggplant shrimp 2.5/5 the egg plant itself was flavorless, the Vietnamese coffee 4/5 . We had great service and dishes came out quickly, there's a cute patio out front and indoors is quite small. Reservations allow for 1.5 hours of dining. Parking in the back is tight and not a lot of spots. I would come back again to try other dishes they have to offer. read more

This particular Lin restaurant is inside an old house which adds to its charm. While you're waiting to be seated, you can sit under the covered front porch and order drinks from the bar. I came with a group of nine people. They were able to seat us together but I'm sure they couldn't fit another large party at the same time. The food was really delicious. We ordered a few dim sums to share at the table and then our own dishes. I ordered the orange peel beef and it was amazing. It was tender and flavorful. It was strange that rice didn't come with the dinner entrees. You had to order that separately. I LOVED my drink. Everything was good though it was cramped in the restaurant . If you come here you MUST have the Dim Sum! It is to die for and so so delicious. The restaurant is a little small but definitely worth dining. Every plate we had was delicious but of course the best was the dim sum. The drinks were also delicious and the deserts are to die for. Overall, great service and delicious food! Came here for the first time with my son. I've been wanting to try this place out due to a few videos that I've seen on social media. I looooove dim sum so I was pretty excited. I ordered the steam sui mai, seafood soup dumpling, Lin's soup dumpling, sesame seed chicken w/ egg drop soup, and the chocolate bulldog dessert. The sui mai is my all time favorite anywhere else, but this place was delicious, but in a way different way. The dumplings are refreshing, hot, and yummy. The sesame chicken tasted more like Panda's Express orange chicken. The presentation for the chocolate bulldog dessert was super cute and I didn't want to eat him lol. It was chocolate and raspberry flavored. Overall, pretty pricey for the experience and the portion size. If you're looking for the classic dim sum places in those hole-in-the-wall restaurants, this isn't for you. The food was yummy, but in its own way. It didn't taste like what I'm used to my whole life, but I'm glad that I went and tried it once. The staff are super friendly and fast. The parking lot is super small and tight. The restroom was honestly super fun to be in lol. Their toilet was electronic and the fanciest that I've ever experienced lol. The mirrors had lights, the toilet opened and closed based on sensor. Every meal I've had here has been bursting with flavor and has me saying omg that's so good. Their menu has options for everyone and love all the vegetarian options. My favorite dishes to order are the soup dumplings, curry with roti, Dan Dan noodles, sesame chicken, green beans with garlic, and the fried rice. A new favorite, and it was incredible, is the salt and pepper tofu!! It is not super firm tofu, so the texture may throw off non tofu eaters but the flavors in that dish were amazing. It's a great place to celebrate birthdays, they bring out animal shaped desserts for that and have a big room in the back for groups. The chocolate dumplings are also fun, but be careful they can be messy. Can't wait to come back! Parking is also kind of limited, and have parked on the street every time I've come. read more
