    Dummy Rice
    Anisya N.

Perfect spot for a date night with the low lighting, intimate seating and elegant decor. Ordered their soup dumplings, scallion pancake, dummy rice and pipa tofu. The appetizers came out quickly with the entrees taking a bit longer. My favorites of the night were the pipa tofu which was shrimp wrapped in tofu and in this flavorful, spicy curry. The dummy rice is generously filled with meat. The curry that the scallion pancake comes with is also so so flavorful and aromatic. I've had better soup dumplings- the meat in this had a weird texture personally. Service wise, our guy checked in on us a few times but seemed a bit distracted- kind of expected better service for the price point. On the whole, food is flavorful and portions are good!

I've been here twice now, gotten Dim Sum both times so I can't speak to the entrees they have. When I'm in town to visit family for the holidays, this place is turning into a tradition! The place is small inside and has been 100% full both times I've gone, so make sure to make a reservation! The place is cozy and bustling and has a nice outdoor seating area as well, but like I said, both inside and outside are usually fully packed. I gotta say, even with the small bites I always leave stuffed. The soup dumplings, the grilled char sui, the eggrolls, the specialty cocktails... it's all so good. We were there during the holidays so got to try the festive drinks. I tried 4 I think and they were all super good. The service here is fast and friendly. Definitely a place to hit if you're in the area.

I get the hype! It's NOT like Din Tai for those who know.... So don't go in with that idea.. its similar but different with their own twist. Got there the day after xmas at 430 when they opened, already a line. Like others have said make resos! We didn't, it was just me and my son. Got a seat as a walk in right away at the small bar. Service.. meh. 5/10. The wait staff behind the bar wasn't the most friendly, welcoming or attentive. I was hoping for a bit more interest of a hello, is this your 1st time. None of that. Left on our own to look at google and yelp food pix. We got only dim sum: -cucumber salad (good, smokey, umami) 8/10 -roasted duck pancake 10/10 -scallion pancake with curry dip 9/10 -dan dan noodle 6/10 Roasted duck and scallion pancake was the 2 best things we ordered. Plenty for 2!

Food was good and average dimsum cost. Really likes the salt and pepper shrimp. Thought the soup dumplings could be passed on - similar to most soup dumpling places. Crispy sui mai was interesting idea but also thought could be passed on unless really craving fried dumpling type of food. Pretty fast service. Went in a party of 2 around noon on Sunday and was seated no wait but said we would have the give up the table in an hour which was reasonable. Atmosphere was pleasant as it was lively and had dj type of music in the background which is a nice change than more traditional dim sum places where they don't have any music.

Pro-tip: opt for a table inside, unless you're seated on the bar top of the patio. It gets quite crowded, so if you have a large party, make sure to reserve ahead of time! There's a great party room in the back. We sat in the patio and the door kept swinging into our friend. The food was fantastic! From the soup dumplings and scallion pancakes with curry, to the orange peel beef, rocky smoked duck, and the hakka eggplant, to finally the chocolate dumplings (holie molie), our array of foods hit all the spots we needed to get hit. The hakka eggplant and chocolate dumplings happened to be the surprise favorites. In fact, we only ordered the chocolate dumplings because the rose cheesecake was so small to share. The dumplings come with pipette shooters of raspberry sauce that pair so well with the warm chocolate that pours out upon your first bite (so treat this the same way you would any soup dumpling). Lin does an exquisite job at presentation and clearly cares about the small details (okay, the flashy details, too -- such as the seasonal holiday decorations outside and their porch accents). A wonderful neighborhood visit, can't wait to go back.

I'm being generous. Yelp you don't usually let me down but I don't agree on this one. My husband made reservations on their patio a while ago because we are an immunocompromised family and though their patio is very cramped, they have fans everywhere. We asked them to turn them on and they flat out refused. I asked another person who said sure, but never turned them on. The tables are very VERY cramped. So cramped that you can't get out of your seat unless the person next to you gets out first and then they bump into the table next to them. It's Austin. We get it. No losing stars for this. They don't give you any rice or starch with any of the dishes. For example the eggplant dish is swimming in sauce but you have to spend AT LEAST $22 on rice - and that's the cheapest one. We ordered the combo fried rice for $28 instead. I continued to get more irritated because they brought out the saucy eggplant waaaay before the rice. We were done eating it by the time the rice came. The eggplant was a lovely presentation and tasted fine. Nothing special. The honey beef was ok. Not sure what the hype is about. The meat was good quality. The Kung pao was clunky and the vegetables were large cut verses diced. I kind of liked that they were bigger but there were way too many veggies and very little protein. We did not enjoy this dish and would not recommend it. The pork shank was ok. The flavor was predominantly 5 spice, which we enjoy, but somehow it was dry. I don't get it... The best thing we ate were the soup dumplings. It's $14 for 5 soup dumplings. Everything was overpriced for what you get but it's hipster Austin so I get it. Not docking stars for this either. It was a birthday celebration reservation. Nobody cared and the entire experience was just "meh". I was ready to get out of there which is not how I imagined my birthday dinner. I'm irritated with the whole situation. Our total was $177.

This is my second time at Lin's, and I'd come here again and again for the dumplings - specifically the soup dumplings. The location is a little tough to find (especially the signage is not very prominent). They have parking at the back (free but only in designated spots). The restaurant has several tables inside and a few more outside too. I've dined both in and out and really depends on the weather. Service is friendly, menu is comprehensive and they have some good cocktails to try. I've had the old fashioned every time and I've been pleased. Others in my party have tried others drinks and been happy too. On this visit we got the soup dumplings, the Sui Mai, Scallion Pancake, Spicy Cucumbers. All of these were wonderful. The soup dumplings mixed with the chili oil were so yum. Remember to allow it to cool. For mains we got the Lo Mein, Orange Peel Beef, Rainbow Beef, Whole Fish, Kung Pao Chicken. The fish looked exquisite and tasted very yum. They filet it for you on the table (or you can do it yourself). The Rainbow Beef just has different color bell peppers - hence rainbow. The pieces are rather large but marinated well with soy and spices. The Orange Beef has some orange peels and has more of the orange flavor. Both were cooked perfectly - medium. I heard no complaints about the Kung Pao chicken and the Lo Mein was a good accompaniment to all the dishes. For dessert we got the chocolate dumplings - these are small dumplings with a melted chocolate filling and a small pouch with strawberry? liquid. You squeeze as much or little as you want and the strawberry and chocolate just work well together. I am definitely going to be back. Reasonable prices, good and fast service, nice setting.

This place is a must try, everything we ate was amazing. Fresh and tasty. My favorite was the Honey Akaushi. We will be returning. Place is small so I advise to make a reservation unless you can get there when they open like we did.

Easy 5 stars for the food and vibe, minus 1 star for some hiccups that happened. A great establishment for a girls night - we had reservations for 4 on a Saturday at 8 pm. This is a small spot with an upscale chinese food menu catered to a more affluent crowd. It has a trendy interior and a nice outdoor patio with misters and string lights. Everything is on the expensive side. We found the service was brusque and disorganized tonight - we ordered drinks, entrees, and apps and the dessert menu was brought out before the soup dumplings. We needed to give several reminders that we ordered soup dumplings after they kept trying to take our soup dumpling cups away. I will say, the staff use a pad where they can split the bill items perfectly - very handy for a group dinner. Onto the food. Not going to lie - those were the best soup dumplings ($14) I've probably ever had. They were rich and fatty and flavorful and the dough had a toothsome bite and was fresh. The volcano shrimp ($24) was also yummy and came with very large shrimp pieces. The drinks were good too! I'd love to come again for those yummy soup dumplings for sure!

Party of 6 on Sunday where we got to eat out on the patio. Our reservations were for 11am but a good majority of us were about 20 minutes late. Luckily we had one friend who was here on time! We were here until about 12:40. Street parking and colorful decor. What I would get again: - 2 shrimp har gow $28 - 3 iced coffees $21 - my bf liked it so much he got another one! - fresh mandarin orange juice $10 - Love that it was fresh as I am pre diabetic. - 2 soup dumplings $28 - there is a bowl provided just for the dumplings so you don't lose the soup! - turnip cakes $8 - green beans with garlic $18 - crispy sui mai $14 - rainbow beef $29 What else we ordered: - 2 Szechuan cucumbers $18 - a bit tangy for my taste - spicy yuzu shrimp $16 - spare ribs with black bean sauce $11 - steamed bbq pork buns $12 - a bit dry and wouldn't get again Didn't try but nobody had any complaints: - snow crab ball $16 - farmer vegetable fried rice $22 Not pictured: 2 mimosas with mandarin $26 and hot tea $5 Would definitely come back here again next time I am in Austin and encourage reservations as it was pretty busy during our time here.

Let me start by saying Food, some of the best I've had! I still think about this place. Service was good. I think our party of 6 was a bit much for a crowded day. Didnt feel well taken care of. But the place was packed for a Saturday night. The exterior was decorated all cute with pumpkin/ fall stuff. And the interior had a dim lit vibe. WILL BE GOING BACK, food was phenomenal !! Lamb chops 5/5 Cabbage salad 5/5 Fried rice 4/5 Dim sum 5/5

We came here to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday lunch, and it was such a treat! Since moving from Houston to Austin, I hadn't found a Chinese restaurant that impressed me--until now. Even as a vegetarian with limited options, everything I tried here was fantastic! The eggplant dish was the family favorite, but the green peas with garlic and the veggie fried rice were also absolutely delicious. Every dish was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. I'm already looking forward to coming back! Pro tip: Make a reservation in advance--this place is very popular, and for good reason! Bonus points for the super clean, modern restrooms with bidets--so fancy and appreciated! The overall vibe of the restaurant is welcoming and stylish, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommended. Keep up the great work! Cheers

Consistency, service, and quality of food. Lin's has all the key factors. I rarely make reservations and seem to be able to get a table. Maybe once I've been turned down. It has a laid back atmosphere, you are able to have a conversation and not feel like you have to scream across your table - it's not loud, even when it's been busy. I've come here on my birthday, on a random date night, when I have guests visiting out of town- it is just a delicious treat in Austin. I feel like there aren't enough strong Asian restaurants with the variety and consistency Lin's offers. Plus lovely, efficient service every time. Some notable dishes: Shrimp Har Gow Lin Soup Dumpling Crispy Jalapeno Shrimp (GF) Dummy Rice Sautéed Baby Bak Choi with Japanese Shiitake Mushroom (GF)(VE)

Lin Asian Bar And Dim Sum Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Lin Asian Bar And Dim Sum

    Do they serve good sushi?

We did not order sushi so I can't help you with that question. Everything else we have eaten at Li Asian has been fabulous.

Is it real dim sum from a cart or do you have to (fake) order from a menu?

You order everything from the menu, but each piece is handmade, and you can watch them in the open kitchen.

    Nope

How many people does the private back room seat?

    14 people

Do they serve dim sum all day long on weekdays?

They are open for lunch and dinner on weekdays - you can check their hours of operation online. They serve dim sum at all times however for weekdays and dinner it is a select dim sum menu (showed on web). Weekend Brunch is the only time they will… Read more

Is patio area outdoor or indoor? If it rains or gets really windy will it affect the patio area?

Small outdoor patio. Has some covering but if wind kicks up rain or it rains sideways you could get wet.

The is very limited parking behind the restaurant. Otherwise there is street parking

    Is Apple Pay accepted?

    It is not.

    Do you serve alcohol?

    Yes

Is there outdoor patio area dog friendly?

    Yes it is.

What's the average cost for two people eating dinner?

Of course, it depends on what dishes you get and how much you eat. Keep in mind that the portion for the entrees is not very large. If you get an order of soup dumplings and 2 entrees, it should come out to about $40 including tax and tip.

Do they use MSG? I see several reviewers felt certain it was used. Perhaps just in certain dishes? The restaurant responded to their reviews thanking them for their reviews without any clarification re: MSG.

MSG occurs naturally in many foods but I was told by staff as soon as we sat down that they don't use MSG, meaning they don't add any outside of what naturally occurs. And in general, people need to get over their fear of MSG. When it comes down to… Read more

Did not have a reservation on this occasion, but they always make me feel welcome and manage to fit us in. Sat on the outdoor covered patio that was cool and shaded. Started the meal with cocktails including Lycheetini with Deep Eddy Vodka, Giffard Lichi-li. lemon, cranberry, I cut the cranberry. Also had a Fresa Paloma with Socorro Reposado Tequila, Contratto, strawberry, lime, grapefruit, five-spice that was very sweet and garnished with a flower. You are given a card where you can mark your dim sum selections. I ordered the Shrimp Pancake, Snow Crab Ball and Chinese Sausage Sticky Rice. The standout was the shrimp pancake that had a really great texture and flavor. The snow crab ball had a strange texture with shrimp surrounding the snow crab claw. The Chinese Sticky Rice is always a favorite. Also ordered the Truffle Egg Fried rice and Birds Nest with Seasonal Vegetable. The Truffle rice is so flavorful like a flavor explosion in your mouth. The Birds Nest is made with fried potato shreds which contain the a variety of vegetables including cauliflower, peppers, mushrooms and asparagus. The nest is also edible and has a crunchy texture. The presentation of the food is amazing and everything came out hot and fresh. The flavors were on point, and you can tell there's attention to detail in the preparation. Service was attentive outdoors and the pacing of dishes felt just right for a relaxed brunch. This restaurant is truly a gem whether you come for brunch or dinner service. Will definitely be back.

The flavors were spot on and delicious. The only challenge we had was that they would not allow split checks or at least partially split checks - so we spend a huge amount of time figuring out what everyone owed. I wouldn't do a large group here in the future, but I'd definitely come back for a date or small group.

Ordering is still done with the QR code so we had one person order all the food and then we split the bill afterwards. You have to pay first before the order gets sent to the kitchen. The service has improved slightly, with us being so close to the kitchen. We were able to flag down servers to help us get an extra plate, tea cups, etc. Got a variety of dim sum classics: hargow (shrimp dumpling), siu mai, rice noodles, custard buns, chicken feet, chow fun, egg tarts, soy sauce noodles, charsiu bao, turnip cake My favorites are the siu mai, chow fun and custard buns! They also have non-traditional dim sum dishes such as soup dumplings, which actually originated from Shanghai. We got them and they were ok. We ordered a second time to get more custard buns but it seemed they ran out so it took some time for them to make them fresh. When they finally came, the buns were not smooth and it really looks like the custard was about to burst. Someone bit into theirs and the custard exploded onto their shirt. However, we all had a good laugh and still enjoyed the food. Have to have tea during dim sum so we also got our puer and chrysanthemum tea mix. Not sure if they usually charge for this, but we got it complimentary! Yay! If you are familiar with dim sum, then you know these are smaller dishes meant to be shared among the group! Everybody ate and was satisfied. Each person paid about $25 after tip! There's a designated parking lot with lots of spots. If you are looking for a dim sum spot that is not too busy, this is the place to go to!

Ordering is through QR code and they did not know what order went to which table. They put food on our table and took it back to a different table TWICE. The good: the dim sum tasted legit. The vibe is modern: very bright, well lit, with the lion statues in the front, tea pots on the walls and clean spaces. The nice thing is you can order dim sum even when the push carts aren't going, which I personally think is better since it's fresh. My wife felt like she had a ratatouille type moment when she bit into the sesame balls and the deep fried mince turnover. I personally thought while the dim sum had a good fry, it was about average on the flavor and texture, but like I said, some others in our group thought it was excellent. On the other hand, the main entrees, I thought were stellar. The Sichuan green beans (despite this not being a Sichuan shop) were the best rendition of the dish of anywhere I've had in town - very good fry on the green beans with smoky wok hei, well seasoned with the pickled veg too. When your five year old opts to eat just this and rice, you know you got something special on your hand. The seafood fried noodle is also very good - tender squid, shrimp and veggies in the crunchy noodle nest is a great contrast in texture, as well as a lesson in simplicity. The peking pork ribs are also incredible - saucy, not overly sweet sauce clings to the riblets and gives you something incredible to gnaw on. I prefer it in pork chop form, but this is stellar as I think I've only had this one other place that was even remotely close. All in all, great place for Canto food in a town that doesn't have enough of it.

Thanks to reviews from fellow Yelpers like Steve W. and Samuel C., I felt confident suggesting Ling Wu to my friends and my girlfriend. I made a reservation for that Wednesday night at 7:00 pm, and by the time we arrived, the place was absolutely packed. There was a line of people waiting to be seated. I don't know if they were walk-ins or also had reservations, but thanks to ours, we were sat immediately with ease. I definitely recommend making a reservation. The interior of the building is beautiful, as is the patio with string lights and shrubbery. We sat inside, and the lowly lit atmosphere was excellent. All of the decor really makes the space feel cozy. Water is served in little mugs, and a paper mat is placed on the table because they know Austinites are messy. We all ordered drinks. Two people got a Kirin Light, one got a cocktail, and I ordered their mocktail Spritz. We also shared an appetizer of the Szechuan Spicy Cucumber, which arrived as an incredible tower of cucumber that was both fantastic and delicious. I lowkey ate half of the tower. My girlfriend ordered their soup dumplings, which were pretty good. Soup dumplings are not really my personal style, but everyone else at the table loved them. I was most excited for my entrée. I ordered the Orange Peel Akashi Beef with a side of brown rice, and honestly, it is some of the best Asian cuisine I've ever had. I've seen reviews complaining about the price point, but you can't compare a wagyu steak to Texas Roadhouse, and you can't compare a sit-down Asian restaurant to a Chinese buffet. This is clearly a step above. You don't have to fully dress the part, but this is practically fine dining. Top tier service, top tier atmosphere, and top tier food. This isn't a casual noodle shop, buddy. Overall, it's an excellent experience and definitely worth the steeper price tag. I recommend Ling Wu if you understand that sometimes you have to pay more for a higher quality meal. If you're not that type of person, grow up, because you're missing out on some of the best Asian food Austin has to offer. RIYL: A great meal with a great atmosphere

I ordered hot and sour pork soup. I had never had hot and sour soup with meat. Portions were generous, ingredients fresh, and the food arrived smoking hot. The noodles were soft, smooth and flavorful. The pork inside looked like tiny meatballs. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the restaurant was completely full and customers were continuing to flow in. Because the restaurant is rather small, I had to wait about 20 minutes for my order. Jim, one of the owners, said if I had ordered 3 items it would take about 45 minutes, that's why I went with one. You could easily tell that many folks at the restaurant were regulars, which means the food, service or both were exceptional. Definitely will be returning to Three Gorges...

The cumin seeds give it that signature earthy, aromatic flavor and you get a slight tingly numbing spice sensation from the chilis and peppercorn. The lamb is not overly gamey, but it still does taste like lamb so if you are not really a lamb fan, I'd choose something else. - Jumping Fish: A very popular dish! Tender white fish fillets that is so soft it melts in your mouth. It is in a flavorful oil and broth that is refreshing from the fresh jalapenos. It is a savory dish, yet still relatively mild. It commes with napa cabbage as well! This was my favorite dish and I loved the flavor combined with the white rice. - Mapo Tofu (Vegetarian): They have one with pork as well, but I got the vegetarian version. Silky soft tofu cubes in that signature mapo tofu sauce and numbing peppercorns. Despite the appearance of all the dishes, none of them were very spicy. Overall, a comforting soft, spicy, savory dish with a slight tingle. - Eggplant in garlic sauce: A deliciously sweet and umami garlic sauce. The eggplants could have been a bit more cooked through in my opinion though since it was still quite firm. I loved it still! Note that all the dishes to me were not spicy just had an underlying subtle spice or tingle (like a finishing flavor note if you will). Also, since it is sichuan the dishes are on the oilier side. You order with the cashier at the front and pay up front as well. Food comes out quickly. It is a small space with three rows of tables (maybe around 12-15 tables give or take), so it does fill up fast. I went at around 5:40 PM on a Thursday and there was no wait, but by the time we finished eating at around 7PM, the restaurant was full. House of Three Gorges was hyped up a lot on my social media feed and through word of mouth, so I came in with high expectations. Luckily, they did not disappoint.

Absolutely insulting service, not because they were understaffed and in the weeds but because we were a family of five and only my wife was drinking while we were sandwiched between two tables that were going hard on the bottle service. They curtly took our order, dropped the food and we were never checked on again while our table filled with plates and our drinks needed refills (We had to flag someone down for chopsticks because they were so fast leaving after dropping the food). Then when they finally dropped our check, after we sat there and watched them ignore our table numerous times and considering just going straight to the front so we could leave, we went to settle up and I was entering our tip my son noticed that they had already autograted our check. For a family of five. No mention of this and we almost doubled tipped for absolute trash service. It seemed underhanded and added more insult to injury after such a mediocre experience. We used to think your rude waiters were novel and funny when the food and ambiance were fantastic but when the food quality drops, we all agreed the food was just ok, and we're treated poorly maybe we should have been paying more attention.
