Stopped by at 3pm to grab takeout for the office. I ordered the seaweed salad, garlic shrimp noodles, and the house special prawns. The waiter brought me a glass of iced tea and a bowl of soup while I waited, which was very considerate. The food was freshly prepared within about 10 minutes and given to me in a box. As I left I was presented a mango and an apple for dessert. On the drive back to the office the wafting smells increased my appetite. When I opened the containers, the portion of house special prawns was quite small with a large amount of rice and the appetizer had been forgotten. However, they did include another container of soup. All of the dishes were delicious, costing me a total of $25.00. The only duck on the menu was deep fried so I didn't order it. Hope they'll consider a stir fry duck entree. I look forward to returning for a sit down and trying some of their sushi presentations. The service was horrible. As we sat down, the server was profusely apologizing for an error she made to another table. Unknowingly, we became the next victim to her poor service. She took our order and that's where it drastically went down hill. We couldn't flag a waiter down for water. They seemed more interested in catering to everyone else in the restaurant. They served our appetizer to the table who sat next to us but sat 10 minutes after us (they ordered and the appetizer was handed to them a minute later). Everyone around us, who sat after us, had tables full of food while we sat there with our 2 hungry kids and not enough food. We asked another waiter for our food and she didn't even ask if we ordered it already. She assumed we just ordered and, only then after 30 minutes, did the kitchen start cooking it. They should have said it was not ordered, so I could leave and get my kids dinner elsewhere. Instead they said "it's coming" 15 minutes later and still no food. I said we'd just take it to-go. They didn't charge us for it. We got the comp dessert, bag of produce and candy like other reviewers mentioned. But it doesn't make up for the service. Another Asian restaurant in the area does the same produce and candy thing. Other patrons appeared to enjoy their dinner. So it must be good. Right? The one star rating is harsh but this is the one place I've felt like my family doesn't belong in Moraga. We live down the street but I'd rather go elsewhere than have my family go through this again. read more

Recently moved to the neighborhood and saw the restaurant on our way to one of the stores on Moraga Rd and decided we'd try the place. A bit skeptical that it was a joint Japanese and Chinese restaurant. Thought to ourselves, this place must be mediocre and just trying to capture both the Japanese and Chinese cravers in a small community. We ordered both Japanese and Chinese dishes. Wife and I ordered the spicy tuna roll and green dragon roll. Since our kids have such different taste buds, we ordered the fried rice and chow mein along with a kung pao dish. The Chinese dishes came out first and pretty quickly. Serving size/portion isn't as large as others indicated. I think it's just right. The rolls came out a little thereafter. Our family of four were quite surprised with the quality and taste of the food. It was fresh and seasoned perfectly. My son nearly devoured all of his chow mein dish! My wife who is pretty picky loved the rolls. True test will be the actual sushi. Will have to try it next time we go back. Daughter loved her rice. Service was attentive and good. As others mentioned, they gave us fruit (mangos) to take home and they gave us complimentary children's juice/drink which was quite good. At the end of our meal, they brought out a basket filled with fortune cookies,which the kids loved b/c they could eat more than one, and a wonderful presentation of cut fruit. We will definitely go back to try more of the sushi. Will update review on the freshness of the fish. As a side note, I read another review about how they observed the serving of Asians slower. When we arrived, we were directed to seat ourselves and then waited for the menus. The place had about four other groups either already eating or waiting for their food, so not too busy. A couple came in after us, they were taken to their seats, given menus, took their drink orders. The server then came over to our table with the menus. I didn't think too much about it until my son who's 9 thought it was odd and it made me think about the other review I read. Is it a big deal? Probably not, unless others were treated the same. I'm so glad this opened! I've already eaten there twice - gave it a good review for the first visit, this time it was simply excellent. Went there for a quick lunch, ordered the bento box (under $10) with teriyaki salmon and 3 pieces of nigiri. Before we even got our order taken they gave us a hot bowl of well-balanced hot and sour soup and a small green salad. The bento - perfect! A lovely little seaweed salad, rice with seasonings, three well-made, melt-in-my-mouth nagiri, and two small fillets of salmon, perfectly cooked with deliciously crunchy skin, covered in a perfectly balanced teriyaki sauce and a few pieces of steamed broccoli. It was all so delicious! Perfect presentation and taste combinations. Then they brought out a small "dessert" plate with a few pieces of mochi, blackberries, whipped cream. Just a taster, but a wonderfully delicious surprise! And to top it all off, they sent us home with two bunches of asparagus. What a wonderful meal, and we will be back soon. read more

There is no way anyone should give this place 5 stars. Maybe for customer service a 4, but not for the food. First of all we walked in and it was smoky and very hot inside. They really need to fix their a/c. I couldn't wait to get out of there. This is HUGE improvement over the restaurant that was here before which is a good thing. They redid the inside and it looks better but do we REALLY need a HUGE big screen in the main part of the restaurant. It was a distraction to me. This restaurant attracts a ton of kids and they are noisy. Now the food. Pot stickers were ok (I have definately had better but they were fine), the sweet and sour shrimp was good but no where as good as Uncle Yus in Lafayette and the fried rice was ok. Yes they bring you fruit, and keep bringing more fruit as you eat. Enough already. I don't really like my waiter walking around with veggie boxes as I eat. The price of the entrees are as expensive as Uncle Yus which they shouldn't be but then I guess you have to pay for those plums that land on your table somehow. After a long wait to get our bill (and bringing more fruit to the table, sigh) we had to finally go up to the cashier to pay our bill. People were waiting. You would think they would want to get rid of us. Moraga doesn't need any more chinese restaurants, but at least this one is ok. I might try it again. Maybe, maybe not. Its not the worst, but not the best. I give props to Jay the owner who as least is trying! Thats a 5! Our 1 appetizer, 2 entree and rice came to $44. No cocktails, no tea or soda. read more

We stopped here for lunch today ordered off the lunch menu. They have superb hospitality. There was delicious hot and sour soup, water and little dumplings placed at our table the moment we sat down. The basil chicken was delicous, as was the beef & broccoli. The server gave us watermelon for dessert and even a melon to take home. We have found our new favorite local Chinese food place. Recently after coming back from studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain for four months I was craving some Chinese food. I am usually very picky about which restaurants I go to, but I was so hungry I would have eaten anywhere. I decided to go to this restaurant right near my house. I was not expecting a lot to be honest. However, they completely blew me away. The service was very good, bringing us our waters and taking our orders right away. Our food came out all at once and very quickly which is always a plus. My favorite type of Chinese food is chow mein so I am always grading it very harshly and in all honesty I was very pleasantly surprised. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce was very tasty. The chicken and veggies were also cooked very nicely and added a lot to the dish. At the end of the meal they gave us our check and even gave us some free vegetables. Overall, it was a very good dining experience and I will for sure be returning to Golden Palace again. read more

Had the bento box with salmon and nigiri. Really good. Not the most amazing sushi but not bad. Super nice service, miso and egg roll appetizers, fresh fruit too! Well worth $10 plus tax and a generous tip. They cooked the salmon crispy with a little skin which makes it much more flavorful and tender. Lots of variety for the price. Funny mix of Chinese and Japanese all at once, but they make it feel normal. read more

I have been there so many times. They offer both Chinese food and sushi and it is very delicious. Their service also is the best I ever seen. My mum and my wife also like it a lot. I live in Pleasanton so it takes me 30 mins drive every time I get there. But the food definitely worth the drive. Inside the restaurant is also very clean.
