Came here on Mother's Day and they were able to seat us pretty quickly, even with how busy it was. We came with a party of five and ordered a ton from both the dim sum menu and the regular menu. The BBQ pork buns, shu mai, potstickers, and especially the turnip cakes were all super good. The combination fried rice was delicious, not oily at all, and the portion size was very generous. We also ordered the General Chicken, salt and pepper fish, mapo tofu, and Singapore noodles. We definitely ordered enough for very hungry people, and still had plenty left to take home. The space itself is very welcoming and open -- clean, comfortable, and not overly stuffy. The servers were attentive, friendly, and genuinely kind throughout the meal. We love another dim sum option in Walnut Creek! Although, it's not like the tradition dim sum places as they don't have all of the things you would find at an actual dim sum restaurant. They have the basics and then some, which is more than good with me! We went here recently for my dad's bday and another time two weeks later with just my husband and I. Ordered a few dim sum items but ordered off their main entree menu which we haven't done before. Here's what we ordered: Siu Mai - it was delish! This isn't always created equally. lol some places it almost looks like they served frozen store bought siu Mai, but this was legit! Honey walnut prawns - I'm obsessed with this!! It was perfectly cooked! Nice and crispy on the outside and the shrimp fully cooked on the inside. Fried shrimp dumpling: this is my go to at most dumplings sum places. It was delish! Chicken Crispy Noodles: this is the star of the show for me. Their pan fried noodles are perfect. It reminds me of a place I used to go to in sf when I was in middle school which is no longer there. The taste, texture of the noodles brought back memories! I know there are many iterations of pan fried Hong Kong style noodles, but those are also not created equally. This is a winner! Mapo tofu: this is hubby's favorite. We really enjoyed it and will definitely get it again! We been to this East Ocean many times and we have been happy with quality of the service, food, and ambiance. They emphasize their fresh seafood, and we have enjoyed their ginger green onion crab, lobster noodles and shrimp dishes. In addition, we think they have an excellent spicy eggplant and fried rice dishes too. On our most recent visit, we got their honey walnut shrimp which included fried plump shrimp that were crispy and coated in a creamy and slightly sweet sauce. We also got their steamed scallion chicken which was tender, delicious and topped with a light soy-oil based sauce. The mapo tofu had a good level of spice and included plenty of tofu cubes. Finally, the sautéed bok choy was topped with a flavorful brown sauce and plenty of shiitake mushrooms. The restaurant is spacious with multiple group seating. I started with the fried taro and they were delish. Then had the specialty noodle was recommended, it was good. Thick noodle soup with veggies, beef, chicken, and shrimp, I asked for spicy but it was not. Lastly the sweet rice meat lotus leaf was my favorite. Came here for a group dinner. The more American dishes (kung pao chicken, orange chicken, Mongolian beef) were the best dishes with the most flavor. The seafood for the crispy noodle was well cooked but under-seasoned. Of the dim sum we ordered (shrimp dumpling and sticky rice)-both tasted very doughy and gummy. East Ocean takes over the spot that China Village left in Ygnacio Plaza. They're a Cantonese restaurant with dim sum, under the same ownership as East Ocean in Alameda. We went this week and tried out their non-dim sum fare. Ordered family style - East Ocean Combo Crispy Noodles, Pork Chops w/Spicy Salt, Mongolian Beef, Eggplant & Mushrooms. All the dishes were nicely prepared - crispy noodles, meats and eggplant were tender. Flavors were solid and one thing that was notable is that dishes were slightly less salted than most restaurants - which I liked. Nice addition to the area and a good spot for small or large parties. Dined in with 4 of us. Dinner for 4 consisting of beans with minced pork, sizzling rice soup, crispy noodle, honey glazed prawns and a bowl of white rice. Total cost was $100.54. Overall the food were tasty except the soup was below par maybe because the rice was not toasted enough to cause the sizzle which adds to the flavor. I did tip 20% which is my normal tip since the pandemic to reward the hard working waiters and cooks. What bothered me was the additional 3% charge because I use my Visa . This restaurant is inside a large strip mall but parking isn't a problem. We had a spa appointment a few doors down and stopped here for lunch afterwards. Food appeared wholesome and was delightful to the eyes upon arrival. I had the curry chicken lunch special with brown rice. It was very flavorful but didn't contain much chicken. There were however some type of gooey dumplings that were a turn off for me but otherwise I enjoyed the dish. I don't usually need soy sauce but the rice needed it. The potsticker appetizer was delicious and not overcooked! The server seemed to forget about us but doted on the 4 people sitting next to us. The bathroom was gender friendly. The paper towels were out and overall a little tidying up of the bathroom was warranted during the visit. I might visit again but I would avoid anything with those dumplings. read more

Where is the salted fish? I ordered the salted fish & chicken fried rice for $23 and honestly could not find the "salted fish" part anywhere -- not in the taste, not in the smell, not even a tiny bit of aroma. Just a few small chicken cubes and barely any egg. It tasted like plain rice fried with rice. For this price, I seriously felt like taking the dish back and asking the chef to try it themselves -- maybe then they would understand what the dish is supposed to taste like. This is our second time coming. Service was much quicker this time. Last time it was a full house and the dishes took a long time to come out. We came here last night 6-29-25 to have dinner with my parents. I was surprised to learn that they serve dim sum all day. Last time we went for brunch/lunch and they were also serving dim sum. They don't have a cart that goes around during brunch. Instead they have a menu and you check off what you'd like to order. It's pretty simple. They have some of the dishes on there regular menu, but the dim sum portions are half the size, which is a great option if you order a number of small dishes. We ordered the west lake beef soup, which reminded me of egg drop soup with minced beef in it. I've had it once before so it was surprisingly good. Even my parents liked it. We also ordered dry beef Chow Fun. We usually order it with American broccoli in it, but we forgot to this time so it came out with just noodles and bean sprouts. It was good, but it was missing a vegetable which would have been nice. My parents didn't want to order a separate vegetable dish so that would have been nice. We ordered the salt and pepper fish. They were fried fish filet fried to perfection and a melody of green scallions and peppers mixed in with it. It kind of reminded me of fish sticks. It was really good. I liked the saltiness of the batter. The food was as good as it was last time and the service was superior to last time. Last time we came on Mother's Day and it was packed, I don't think they expected a full house and didn't have enough kitchen staff to compete with all of the guests coming and going. read more

We came to this restaurant on a Sunday evening. This was our first time trying this place and it will absolutely be added to the list of restaurants we like to frequent. The food was delicious. Their menu has a wide variety of dishes from pork, chicken, fish, beef, and vegetables. I highly suggest coming on the weekend to get the egg custard buns. These are always my favorite to get at bakeries or dim sum when they have it. The duck we orders was seasoned well and next time we will splurge on getting the Peking Duck. The house chow mein was equally delicious and had plenty of meat and vegetables mixed in. On a cold night I would highly recommend the wonton soup. The soup was packed with loads of vegetables, meat, and wontons. Service here was stellar and they were always so attentive. It was a little slow that night but it honestly could be because it was Sunday night and we like to eat our dinner a little later. I guess I have to post this even though I hate to. I really want to give east ocean 5 stars. I'm happy to say since my last review i never got cold dim sum again, the wait staff is really good. So improvements over my last review are great. Unfortunately, the management need to be more involved. Let me start with the good. The chef is pretty good, and the food tastes good. The issue is with the rest of the details of the restaurant. The toilet paper dispenser doesn't work correctly in both toilets also there was none in one of thr toilets. Finally the biggest thing that is really bad is the fact the fresh fish always looks sick with growths and lesions. This is the first time i saw lobster like this. I don't know who the supplier is but got to find a new one. I hope the management gets more involved in making this better run. read more

In general, the food was pretty good and the portion was decent, but the price point was to me a little higher than what I'm used to when it comes to Chinese food. But below is my review of two items that we ordered: Fried Chicken in Garlic Sauce: very delicious, and the flavor profile reminded me a lot of Korean style sweet soy fried chicken. I especially loved how thin the breading was on the chicken, and how tender and moist the chicken pieces were. It was like an elevated version of general tso's chicken. While the portion was pretty generous, the price point to me was really high at $19. Honey Pepper Angus Ribeye Beef: tender beef chunks in savory sauce, loaded with veggies including peppers and onions. While no doubt that this dish was good, I am not convinced that it was worth paying $25 for. I would probably not order this again, and instead try their other beef dishes priced lower to get a sense of comparison. read more

Sad to say this is probably my last time getting food from this place. The pros: Staff is friendly and order cooked to completion was quick. The Con: Placed an order for 4 items online, but half the order was wrong. Got the honey pepper Angus Ribeye, salt and pepper shrimp with shell, East Ocean Pork Chop (peking sauce), and bitter-melon fish fillet. The shrimp I got was without shell and was almost just like a breaded fried shrimp - they are cooked differently. I called back to inquire and they told me that they ran out with shrimp with shells. I'm a little surprised here given that they have "seafood restaurant" in their name and was expecting them to have this common ingredient - ok whatever. Then I inquired about the honey pepper angus ribeye, it was different in terms of ingredients and the taste/flavor from when I had it at the Walnut Creek and Alameda locations. What I got was with bell pepper and closer to Mongolian beef - will post a picture of comparison. Person on the phone said they got a new chef, but they have always cooked it the same way. I'm here thinking, why was it different from the past times I got it from the same place and from Alameda (keep it consistent). In addition, the beef provided was different, this time it was more in a sliced format, in the past it was more like a cube/chunk format. I basically paid $4-5 more for a different beef dish, while I was expecting angus beef. To their credit, they did offer to recook this dish for me, however, I already wasted time in driving in/out. They could've just adjusted the bill for the difference. The flavor overall was decent, but you can find better cooking at lower prices around the area. read more

The WORST chicken fried rice I have ever had. Incredibly bland. There was a large volume of rice interspersed with a stingy amount of small bits of chicken, frozen peas, and frozen bits of carrot. Same owners as the Alameda East Ocean. One person in our group preferred to eat outdoors so a large table was setup for us. I was very surprised that the restaurant did not have a line at opening like most dim sum restaurants in the Bay Area. The indoors was small but over time it seemed to fill up more. The selection of dim sum was much smaller than what I was used to. Ha gow and siu mai were good. The pork buns and chicken buns were decent but I would've liked to have seen more meat. The salt and pepper calamari was amazing like in Alameda. The pork belly was very fatty but tasty. Fried meat dumplings (hom suey gok) and fried bean paste (gin duey) we're good. Turnip cakes were great. Service was very attentive for our large group. Maybe for the Walnut Creek area, the menu was sufficient but I like more variety. Just had a Doordash dinner order delivered from East Ocean. I have found my go-to place for dry beef chow fun -- finally! East Ocean does it right with plenty of rice noodles and the flavor is spot on. (Too many other places give you too much bean sprouts and not enough noodles).
