Third time's a charm? Sure, why not. Now I drive for my job and I was in the area. Got the roast duck and roast pork. Pork was great this time. Skin was crispy and crunchy. They still give you only one sauce packet. Yes, I know I can ask for more, but was already sitting down and eating.

For $17.75 plus tax, it was a good deal for a three item meal. The service was relatively fast. It's located next to Haven City, part of GW market. The area was clean most of the time cuz there was a janitor walking around, sweeping and wiping. There was a bunch of rice with soy sauce on the bottom, topped with bbq pork, pork brisket, and roast duck. The rice was cooked perfectly. The bbq pork was very good IMO, glistening on the outside, quite tender meat even though there was not much fat, pretty impressive. The roasted pork brisket was my favorite. It was crispy on the outside, also not fatty but tender meat. I like how their seasoning wasn't so overpowering. The roasted duck had good flavor but seriously, mostly bones I got , barely any meat in there. The pickled cabbage was slightly too acidic. The bokchoy was slightly overcooked and slightly oily, slightly sweet.

Quick bite at Golden Roast I ordered the two-meat combo with steamed rice and vegetables, a solid, simple meal. The BBQ pork had good flavor, but was a bit tough, and the roasted duck didn't have much meat and was more on the boney side. Overall, an okay stop, but hoping for a bit more on the texture and portion next time.

Golden Roast is located in the hallway between Haven City Market & GW Supermarket. Not sure if it's technically part of Haven City, but it's in there hiding towards the back and you have to really look for it to find it . I was shopping at GW and decided to purchase some a la carte Char Siu (BBQ Pork) to serve with dinner. They have a variety of plate specials (protein with rice and veggies) and a couple drinks. They have roast goose here, which I haven't seen at many places. It's a bit more expensive for the Char Siu than the old school Chinese BBQ shops ($16.99 for a large box, but not much in it), but it was convenient for me and my family said it was pretty good. The other signature dishes look really good, so I will have to pick some of those up next time I don't want to make dinner!

Inside food court of the GW Supermarket, next door to the Haven City Food Hall. One of the better HK BBQ shops in the San Gabriel Valley. My roast pork and duck 2-item rice plate was excellent value and taste for $15. In comparison, a similar lunch box from the food hall would cost $20 if not more. Better yet, this is the only SGV restaurant I know that sells goose!!!

5-stars, simply because there really isn't any other place around where can get a WHOLE ROAST GOOSE. It's very very niche (but not cheap). But I'd definitely take it as an alternative to eat a roast turkey for Thanksgiving. But really, overall this place is 4-stars, goose availability aside. Still, this is a doable spot for West Covina. To get any kind of char siu bbq pork or roast duck of comparable quality, you'll have to drive out to Rowland Heights, San Gabriel, Monterey Park, etc. Back in 1999, I would drive from high school to Monterey Park, pick up a stack of bootleg anime VHS tapes, and a whole roast duck, and be back in West Covina in about an hour. In today's traffic, there's no way that'll happen unless you do it on a Sunday morning. So I really appreciate something like this is in town, in a very convenient food court stall that is Haven. Is service good? Who gives a flying catshit! I've never known Cantonese restaurants, like seafood, bbq, or dim sum to ever be the epitome of Michelin-grade service. You're not talking about Japanese people that are super considerate, have thought 5 chess moves into the future, and try to bring up issues in a roundabout way. You just have to be assertive with this kind of place. Very quick, and casual. Just order, and they'll chop and cleave up that whole roast duck in no time. And I love roast duck. This style of roast duck. Anywhere else I order duck, like some leg of duck confit bullshit at a French restaurant for $45, I'm disappointed. Or I can spend $45 (god, a whole a duck was less than $30 not too long ago, to say less than $20 in the 2000's) and get a whole roast duck that will last me several days. And it will be the most satisfying, rich, oily, savory duck. Can you tell I love Cantonese roast duck? I could basically eat it every day. With the only other duck I enjoy being Peking duck. That said, I will warn you, getting a duck plate probably wouldn't be filling enough if you're a full-sized adult. Duck doesn't carry that much meat on the bone for most of the chopped cuts. So if you're really hungry, you should go for a 2 or 3 choice plate, if you're gonna get a plate. But for the price, I'd rather just get half a duck and eat it with rice at home.

I ordered the Roast Duck (Half - $18.99). It's juicy and well-seasoned. Its skin is salty & savory, but its meat is lean and firm. Although it's not the most distinct, this duck is filling. I arrived at Golden Roast (West Covina) on Saturday (around 11:00am). It's located inside the Haven City Market. Staff is business-like and terse. They spoke quick and acted fast. The Roast Duck (Half - $18.99) was ready in three minutes and 42 seconds. As mentioned, the Roast Duck is good. It's not the most flavorful, but it's prepared well. Its meat quickly turned dry and chewy, but it arrived glossy and wet with its own juices. Regarding ambiance, Golden Roast (West Covina) is a food stall in the Haven City Market. The location is clean. Also, there's plenty of inside and outside seating. The location is well-ventilated; upbeat loud music chimed in the background; and the flat screen televisions show the Dodger game on its Spectrum Sportsnet Channel. Overall, Golden Roast (West Covina) is a decent option. I left satisfied. 4.5 out of 5

Went to Golden Roast on a Wednesday night because I really wanted their Hong Kong-style duck and rice dish ($11.99). They were super fast--my food was ready in less than two minutes! I saw the chef cut the duck in like 20 seconds. The employees were really nice, and the place felt welcoming. The combo plate came with hot steamed rice, veggies like broccoli and cabbage, and lots of tasty duck pieces for a great price. It brought back childhood memories. Located inside Haven City always clean with plenty of seating, near the supermarket, so it's easy to find. They take credit cards and Apple Pay, which was quick and easy. For my cravings and for the price, this place really nailed it! I got the 2-item plate with roasted pork belly and soy sauce chicken. The chicken didn't have much meat to it, but the roasted pork belly was delicious! I was also hoping to get bok choy as the veggie, but not today. Service was great, friendly, and helpful. Can't ask for more when it comes to a small kiosk in the middle of a huge food hall with a ton of other options. You're constantly competing. Ambiance of the location was that. Technically tucked inside a grocery store, but more attached to the Haven City Market hall.

Came here today to pick up food for my early dinner and meals for the next 2 days. Got the House Special Roast Chicken w/Rice (4.5/5), Roast Duck [Half] (4.5/5) and the Mix Two Items Plate [BBQ Pork and Roast Pork Brisket] (4.25/5). The food was pretty good and the quality was satisfactory. I tried a little of everything for my early dinner. Looking forward to having a few pieces of the roast duck and BBQ Pork with Rice Noodle and greens for lunch tomorrow. Parking was easy since I came around 4 PM.

I spoke with the owner, but he refused to discuss the issue and insisted that this is just the quality of their duck. I'm very disappointed. I've ordered from this restaurant before, but this time the duck had barely any meat on it. On top of that, the owner had a poor attitude when responding to a customer complaint.

Golden Roast is a Hong Kong style bbq restaurant serving up authentic bbq pork, roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, etc. It's located in Haven City and is right next to the grocery market. Even though Haven City hours list that it opens at 11:30am, I was able to enter from the grocery store and place my order around 11am. There were a lot of people there who had already ordered. The restaurant is like food court style, where it's just an ordering window with communal tables shared by all Haven City restaurants and shops in the area - not much else to the ambiance. I got the 2 item rice place with cha siu and the roasted duck. The total, plus tax and tip, came out around $19. The plate came with rice, cabbage, and gai lan. The portions weren't huge. The cha siu was fantastic - great color and flavor. The roasted duck was awful - all bones. The service felt typical of any Chinese restaurant - direct, quick, firm, and not the warmest. They don't serve water here for free, so you can buy a drink alongside the rice plate as an add-on (which I did not do). Overall, this is a great place to get a quick meal and grocery-shop afterwards. I'd come back for the cha siu in the future.

The chasu was cut interestingly (length wise). Odd but still tasty. The fried udon was over cooked with minimal meat. Best thing was the upgraded ice tea for minimal cost.

Since then, it's become one of our regular spots when we're craving certain dishes that are hard to find done this well. It's easily become one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Our repeat favorites: beef with black bean sauce (off-menu), shredded chicken (seasoned well), crispy fish with spicy salt (crispy with a kick), typhoon pork ribs (put the seasoned crumbs on your rice - yum!), chinese broccoli with dried fish (love the stems), shrimp cakes (crispy exterior bouncy inside) and beef chow fun (tender beef and abundant noodles). Their fried dishes are light, not greasy and leftovers re-crisp in the air fryer. Their lemon tea is refreshing and comes with 1 refill. If I had to recommend just 1 dish to try it would be the shredded chicken or the typhoon pork ribs (or fish if you prefer). Or just ask the ladies for suggestions and they'll lead you the right way. Decor is clean and simple. Service is always friendly, and the food comes out fast, hot, and consistently satisfying.
