Pretty close to the real McCoy for HK BBQ Meats. Only a few spots in SVG offering roast goose. Slightly different from duck. A lot large in size, their meat dark even the beast, fatter and richer. Whole goose $148, H $86 and rice box $20.99. Goose is only available on weekends. Call ahead they will run out. Standards HK BBQ ans and Roast meat. Sold at Whole or Half on the duck and goose. On meats and house special roast chicken small or large. They all come in rice combo with green vegetable and in house pickled cabbage. The only disappointment the steamed rice was dry and it can be fluffier. Location is in the Haven Food Hall in West Covina. Very casual, lively and it can get lousy. There are many other food options. Come and enjoy. Its worth the drive. Great for single, couples families and large group

My co workers and I frequent haven city market for lunch every week. I decided to try golden roast instead of my usual hamburger. I ordered a roasted duck plate that came out roughly under $14. For $14, that plate was huge. It was stuffed with roasted duck meat, rice, and veggies. The duck meat had a nice amount of muscle with a slim amount of fat in between the skin. Added with a bit of sauce, the duck and rice were incredible together. The veggies gave a nice crisp textural break. Overall, bang for your buck plate of cantonese food. I'll probably be frequenting this spot in Haven City Market and one that I would recommend others to try if they're in the area.
This stall is in between GW market & the large seating area of Haven City. I ordered the roasted pork brisket signature plate ($11.99) & adding a drink was $2.75 (original $4.75) . The plate came with rice with soy sauce, bok choy, & picked cabbage with a generous portion of the pork. The pork skin was nice & crunchy and pretty fatty. The HK lemon tea was really good and HUGE. My order came out in 5-10 minutes. This was a good comfort meal & I would try their other plates next time.
Quick bite at Golden Roast I ordered the two-meat combo with steamed rice and vegetables, a solid, simple meal. The BBQ pork had good flavor, but was a bit tough, and the roasted duck didn't have much meat and was more on the boney side. Overall, an okay stop, but hoping for a bit more on the texture and portion next time.
I think the food was good. I had the rice plate with two types of meat - roast duck and cha siu. I was hoping to get the other type of pork but they said they ran out. I think the roast duck and bbq pork are good. But the downside about getting roast duck is that it's a lot of bones not a lot of meat. Would I get roast duck again? Maybe - only if I'm really craving for it. Overall I had a good experience with Golden Roast.
Golden Roast is located in the hallway between Haven City Market & GW Supermarket. Not sure if it's technically part of Haven City, but it's in there hiding towards the back and you have to really look for it to find it . I was shopping at GW and decided to purchase some a la carte Char Siu (BBQ Pork) to serve with dinner. They have a variety of plate specials (protein with rice and veggies) and a couple drinks. They have roast goose here, which I haven't seen at many places. It's a bit more expensive for the Char Siu than the old school Chinese BBQ shops ($16.99 for a large box, but not much in it), but it was convenient for me and my family said it was pretty good. The other signature dishes look really good, so I will have to pick some of those up next time I don't want to make dinner!
For $17.75 plus tax, it was a good deal for a three item meal. The service was relatively fast. It's located next to Haven City, part of GW market. The area was clean most of the time cuz there was a janitor walking around, sweeping and wiping. There was a bunch of rice with soy sauce on the bottom, topped with bbq pork, pork brisket, and roast duck. The rice was cooked perfectly. The bbq pork was very good IMO, glistening on the outside, quite tender meat even though there was not much fat, pretty impressive. The roasted pork brisket was my favorite. It was crispy on the outside, also not fatty but tender meat. I like how their seasoning wasn't so overpowering. The roasted duck had good flavor but seriously, mostly bones I got , barely any meat in there. The pickled cabbage was slightly too acidic. The bokchoy was slightly overcooked and slightly oily, slightly sweet.
Inside food court of the GW Supermarket, next door to the Haven City Food Hall. One of the better HK BBQ shops in the San Gabriel Valley. My roast pork and duck 2-item rice plate was excellent value and taste for $15. In comparison, a similar lunch box from the food hall would cost $20 if not more. Better yet, this is the only SGV restaurant I know that sells goose!!!
Decided to visit this location since I love duck! I saw all the good yelp reviews but unfortunately it didn't work the same way for me My duck plate was pretty small, bit dry and there was barely any meat on the duck.. Flavor wise, it wasn't as flavorful/saucey as I'm used to at other duck restaurants. I've had better duck unfortunately this was a bust. 5/10
5-stars, simply because there really isn't any other place around where can get a WHOLE ROAST GOOSE. It's very very niche (but not cheap). But I'd definitely take it as an alternative to eat a roast turkey for Thanksgiving. But really, overall this place is 4-stars, goose availability aside. Still, this is a doable spot for West Covina. To get any kind of char siu bbq pork or roast duck of comparable quality, you'll have to drive out to Rowland Heights, San Gabriel, Monterey Park, etc. Back in 1999, I would drive from high school to Monterey Park, pick up a stack of bootleg anime VHS tapes, and a whole roast duck, and be back in West Covina in about an hour. In today's traffic, there's no way that'll happen unless you do it on a Sunday morning. So I really appreciate something like this is in town, in a very convenient food court stall that is Haven. Is service good? Who gives a flying catshit! I've never known Cantonese restaurants, like seafood, bbq, or dim sum to ever be the epitome of Michelin-grade service. You're not talking about Japanese people that are super considerate, have thought 5 chess moves into the future, and try to bring up issues in a roundabout way. You just have to be assertive with this kind of place. Very quick, and casual. Just order, and they'll chop and cleave up that whole roast duck in no time. And I love roast duck. This style of roast duck. Anywhere else I order duck, like some leg of duck confit bullshit at a French restaurant for $45, I'm disappointed. Or I can spend $45 (god, a whole a duck was less than $30 not too long ago, to say less than $20 in the 2000's) and get a whole roast duck that will last me several days. And it will be the most satisfying, rich, oily, savory duck. Can you tell I love Cantonese roast duck? I could basically eat it every day. With the only other duck I enjoy being Peking duck. That said, I will warn you, getting a duck plate probably wouldn't be filling enough if you're a full-sized adult. Duck doesn't carry that much meat on the bone for most of the chopped cuts. So if you're really hungry, you should go for a 2 or 3 choice plate, if you're gonna get a plate. But for the price, I'd rather just get half a duck and eat it with rice at home.

Its meat quickly turned dry and chewy, but it arrived glossy and wet with its own juices. Regarding ambiance, Golden Roast (West Covina) is a food stall in the Haven City Market. The location is clean. Also, there's plenty of inside and outside seating. The location is well-ventilated; upbeat loud music chimed in the background; and the flat screen televisions show the Dodger game on its Spectrum Sportsnet Channel. Overall, Golden Roast (West Covina) is a decent option. I left satisfied. 4.5 out of 5
Went to Golden Roast on a Wednesday night because I really wanted their Hong Kong-style duck and rice dish ($11.99). They were super fast--my food was ready in less than two minutes! I saw the chef cut the duck in like 20 seconds. The employees were really nice, and the place felt welcoming. The combo plate came with hot steamed rice, veggies like broccoli and cabbage, and lots of tasty duck pieces for a great price. It brought back childhood memories. Located inside Haven City always clean with plenty of seating, near the supermarket, so it's easy to find. They take credit cards and Apple Pay, which was quick and easy. I've been craving some roast duck, so I was really looking forward to trying this place but unfortunately, it didn't quite satisfy the craving. First off, I noticed that the service seemed to be better when you tip, which was a little disappointing. My order came out pretty quickly, but the portion size for $13 felt a bit pricey. Honestly, I'd be better off ordering the half roast duck instead. As for the duck, the skin was nice and crispy, but the meat was pretty salty. Overall, it was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it definitely didn't hit the spot like I was hoping it would. read more
Here for the limited-quantity roasted goose plate, and I was not disappointed at all! Not every place serves goose, since it's harder to control the cooking process and seasoning than duck. I loved the beautiful amber-toned skin and the balance between the fatty and lean meat. It wasn't heavily seasoned, allowing the natural flavor of the goose to shine without any unpleasant aftertaste. The plate came with the pan drippings and the the typical sweet & sour plum sauce packets. Personally, I preferred eating the meat itself or dipping to the jus--it really enhanced the flavor. The pickled cabbage was also a nice palate neutralizer to the meat. The rice was lightly seasoned with the broth as well, which was another plus. Service was fast, and the staffs were friendly. The place is located at the junction of GW Supermarket and Haven City's main food court. Parking can be challenging on weekends since it's a busy plaza, but the roasted goose is definitely worth trying! read more

For my cravings and for the price, this place really nailed it! I got the 2-item plate with roasted pork belly and soy sauce chicken. The chicken didn't have much meat to it, but the roasted pork belly was delicious! I was also hoping to get bok choy as the veggie, but not today. Service was great, friendly, and helpful. Can't ask for more when it comes to a small kiosk in the middle of a huge food hall with a ton of other options. You're constantly competing. Ambiance of the location was that. Technically tucked inside a grocery store, but more attached to the Haven City Market hall. read more
Golden Roast is a Hong Kong style bbq restaurant serving up authentic bbq pork, roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, etc. It's located in Haven City and is right next to the grocery market. Even though Haven City hours list that it opens at 11:30am, I was able to enter from the grocery store and place my order around 11am. There were a lot of people there who had already ordered. The restaurant is like food court style, where it's just an ordering window with communal tables shared by all Haven City restaurants and shops in the area - not much else to the ambiance. I got the 2 item rice place with cha siu and the roasted duck. The total, plus tax and tip, came out around $19. The plate came with rice, cabbage, and gai lan. The portions weren't huge. The cha siu was fantastic - great color and flavor. The roasted duck was awful - all bones. The service felt typical of any Chinese restaurant - direct, quick, firm, and not the warmest. They don't serve water here for free, so you can buy a drink alongside the rice plate as an add-on (which I did not do). Overall, this is a great place to get a quick meal and grocery-shop afterwards. I'd come back for the cha siu in the future. read more
This is the spot my hubby always tells me to pick up some roast pork brisket on my way home from work. Golden Roast is located in between the haven market and GW supermarket. Parking can get hectic on peak hours since there so much food in this plaza. I love that you can get a rice box with choice of one, two, or three items. The rice and the vegetable is good. I always sub out the pickled vegetables since my husband isn't a fan of it. You can always order the meats by small or large portion. The roast pork is are favorite here. The top is always crunchy and I love to pan fry the meat to give it an extra char. The service is always friendly. Overall, a quick place to pick up some proteins or a quick meal. read more

Came here today to pick up food for my early dinner and meals for the next 2 days. Got the House Special Roast Chicken w/Rice (4.5/5), Roast Duck [Half] (4.5/5) and the Mix Two Items Plate [BBQ Pork and Roast Pork Brisket] (4.25/5). The food was pretty good and the quality was satisfactory. I tried a little of everything for my early dinner. Looking forward to having a few pieces of the roast duck and BBQ Pork with Rice Noodle and greens for lunch tomorrow. Parking was easy since I came around 4 PM. read more
Pricey for what you get, but then again, all places in Haven City Market is a bit upcharged due to the food hall. Golden Roast is located right in-between Haven City and GW market. Staff is friendly and helpful and the stall looks clean. Food Review is only for the A La carte options we tried. I do want to try the plates next time. We ordered the Large Chat Siu ($16.99) and Large roast pork brisket ($18.99). I'm used to other places charging a la carte meats by weight, but it's not the case here where you only have Large and small options. You also don't really get to pick which piece you would like some other places. Aside from not knowing how much meat you're getting for the price you also don't know what kind of pieces you'll be getting. I will say for both meats, they were very lean, very little fat. If you're trying to eat leaner, this place has good lean meats. Me personally when I eat char siu or the roasted pork, I need just a bit of fat in it to add the juiciness and fatty flavor. The roast pork brisket tended was lean, but I wish it was a bit crispier. Tender and Good flavor though. The char siu itself was marinated well, but I wish they would give more char siu sauce on side or drizzle over the meat after it was cut. It made it overall too dry Overall unit a bad place to eat. Good lean meats, but tended to be too dry for my liking. I would go back again for plates to get the warm rice and veggies. read more

I spoke with the owner, but he refused to discuss the issue and insisted that this is just the quality of their duck. I'm very disappointed. I've ordered from this restaurant before, but this time the duck had barely any meat on it. On top of that, the owner had a poor attitude when responding to a customer complaint. read more

Highly recommend. I ordered the 2 protein choice option. I asked for the roast duck and roast chicken. Both were so delicious and well marinated and very well roasted. They gave you ample on both and the rice given was laced with the good gravy from both meat. The veggies that came with the meal were even well cooked and well seasoned. I can honestly say that the price was worth it too. I will be back and would recommend. read more

They served me mostly duck bones and thin scraps of roast pork. It was clear they cut off the meaty part of the roast duck and gave me only the bone side, and the thin end piece of roast pork. My two-item combo looked like leftovers. I've eaten HK style BBQ my whole life, and I understand some ducks can be leaner than others. But it's the butcher's job to assess that and at least mix in a few edible pieces - not hand over all bones and skin. When I brought it back to ask about it, they told me that was the correct portion. Instead of fixing the order, they doubled down and implied I was wrong. I handed the uneaten food back and left. They can keep their leftovers and my $18. I won't be returning. read more
This HK style BBQ is located between the main food hall and the grocery store. Prices are reasonable, service is quick, and taste is delicious. For personal preference, I wish the BBQ pork was sliced thinner. I was also surprised at the amount of pork brisket that's included in the small size. This Chinese BBQ place is pretty reasonably priced with their portions of food! I personally like their Soy Sauce Chicken the most. The flavor of their Soy Sauce Chicken is pretty good and I like extra sweet soy sauce to pour on top of it. I tried their cha Siu before but it was cut too thin of a slice. Taste was good but just too thin. This time I also tried their new dish called ginger green onions Chicken rice. The price is very reasonable and the Chicken is pretty tender. However I was expecting the ginger green onions to be on top of the Chickens mixed in like it was shown on the advertisement picture but it wasn't. So I think that makes the Chicken not flavorful at all. Yes we can dip the sauce but then that becomes a regular Chicken dish instead of what it was showing on the picture that with the sauce mixed in it looked so much more appealing. Service is just okay. The cashier sometimes makes me feel like she is not in the best mood. But still acceptable. Ambiance is simple. Not much to say. read more

I went there at noon today and ordered a two-item combo for my work lunch. I won't even comment on the taste -- just look at the way they handle the food. The soy sauce chicken was covered in hair, and not just short hair, but long strands. I will never go back. Absolutely TERRIBLE!!!!! After seeing other customers' Yelp photos, I realized they gave me nothing but chicken necks and wings. Absolutely shameful and disgusting. read more

Was looking for some place close to buy Char Siu and saw Golden Roast the last time I was shopping at GW. What I found most interesting is char siu sold ala cart comes in 2 sizes...small and large. I'm more familiar with buying char siu by the pound. I asked how much was in the small and large orders. The gentleman told me small was about 1/2 pound and large was about a pound. I weighed my char siu when I came home and it came in at 14 oz. The char siu was lean, but luckily not dry. I prefer mine half fat/half lean. Unfortunately, the meat was not the most flavorful, but a cup of sauce is included to pour over the sliced meat. The Roast Ducks on display looked fresh. I may go back and try their Roast Goose. Haven't had that since my trip to Hong Kong. read more
