We really enjoyed The Burd Chicken Rice! They specialize in Cambodian-style Hainan chicken rice, but many of the dishes have their own creative twist. The lemongrass burrito was delicious, and the chicken rice bowl with shredded cabbage salad was simple, fresh, and comforting--it tasted homemade in the best way. The fresh sugar cane juice was amazing! If you prefer something less sweet, try it 50/50 with coconut water. Such a refreshing combination! Even the packaging stood out. Everything was boxed beautifully and looked so presentable, and I loved that almost all of the packaging was recyclable. After watching a movie at the Regal down the street, the kids and I had a late lunch at Burd Chicken Rice. They have a nice variety of chicken items on the menu, some unique things like congee and burritos, and cane drinks with different flavors. There is a good amount of seats inside and a few tables outside as well. There's a cool mural on the wall in the dining area so it gives an artsy vibe. Doesn't seem like they are able to take your order person to person, you have to order on one of the the kiosks on the counter. We ordered the Mix Burd plate w/ 50% Krispy burd and 50% Classic Burd, Lemongrass Burd plate, and Classic Burrito. We also ordered the Honey BBQ Sriracha wings for an appetizer. Wings were great, sticky with a good amount of spice. I really enjoyed the ginger sauces that come with the dishes. The Classic Burrito was basically a Classic Burd plate in a tortilla. It was good, but I would prefer all those ingredients as a plate, as I like the ginger sauce with the chicken and when we put it in the burrito, sauce was just dripping through to the bottom and made a big mess. The classic burd was tender and poached perfectly, but the Krispy Burd was a miss for me, it was the least favorite of everything we ordered. Growing up and raised on Hainan chicken, this is one of my favorite go to comfort food dish. So when I heard about this restaurant, I was fully interested in giving this place a try. So I've had tried Hainan chicken in hundreds of restaurants , some great, some not so great. And after trying Burds version, I would rate it at slightly above average. Since Hainan chicken is poached, it is somewhat on the bland side, this makes the ginger/onion dipping sauce important, it has to be flavorful to bring this chicken up in taste. Unfortunately the ginger/onion sauce was also weak. The dipping sauce needed a pinch of salt in it. This definitely would of taken the chicken up to the next level. The lemongrass version was better as it had a wonderful flavor of the lemongrass marinade to it. The rice was great, had great flavor, the bed of shredded cabbage was refreshing. Staffers were all very nice, friendly and helpful. The small dining area was clean. Outdoor seating is available. Some of the best chicken I've had recently came from a stop we almost didn't make at Burd Chicken. We were in the area for a softball tournament and by the time it wrapped up we were starving. This place happened to be on the way home, so we decided to give it a shot and I'm really glad we did. We ordered the lemongrass chicken and the crispy chicken, and both were excellent. The chicken itself was incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. The garlic rice was another standout! Fragrant, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. The plate also came with a small cup of broth, which was a nice complement to the meal, although it was a little mild for my personal taste. The only downside for us was the portion balance. A large portion of the plate is filled with raw cabbage, which makes the dish appear bigger than it actually is. While the rice portion was good, the protein felt a bit limited. We're also not big fans of plain raw cabbage, so we ended up leaving all of it behind. If it had been seasoned or lightly blanched, it might have felt more like a thoughtful side rather than filler. That said, the flavor of the chicken and the rice alone would bring me back. If you're looking for something quick and tasty, this is definitely a great stop. Dear Mr. Burd Rice. Me and my four friends got a recommendation to try out Burd Chicken Rice and decided to go with it. I had no issues with the parking and receiving the meal. The issues come from getting the food, expensive overall, small portions for the price (excluding the wings and lemongrass burrito that we ordered), and bland (including the burrito ). I got the krispy chicken and although it was crispy, it was dry and bland, one friend got the classic burd and noted the same bland taste but it wasn't dry. Second friend got the burrito, bland as well. Third person got some chicken broth soup and soy garlic wings, no issues there specically on the soup and wings. If you ever been to Hondaya, Ojiya, or any one of those old school yakitori places in Taiwan, usually Chicken skins are not fried per se so it was interesting trying out a fried version here. The skins in the above mentioned places are treated, stretched out grilled / charcoaled and rubbed with some yakitori / Sacha sauce to maximize texture and flavor. Here at Burd Chicken Rice, the Crispy Chicken Skins had a gamey taste, a little too gamey. It almost felt like the skins were tossed directly into the frier, not treated, and coated with pepper flakes, pepper powder, and some spices. It tasted like Fried Pork Skin, a little too greasy, a little overwhelming. So when you have Hainan Chicken which is steamed, boiled with Ginger, Rice Wine for pretreatment, the chicken itself is very refreshing, while the skins were the direct opposit of that. You can either coat the skins with curry powder marinade then fry, gochi berries rice wine marinade then fry, or 5 spices then fry then toss together with chilli powder and msg to give it a kicker Or if stand alone, a vinegar based sauce with more sourness and pepper salt would be a better compliment to the crisps. The Hainan Chicken itself was fairly decent, although this was the first time it was presented on a bed of cabbage. I'd wish there were more vinegar based pickled radishes or cucumbers to compliment the chicken. The meat was really tender, rice a little on the softer side, was overall decent; not WoW, but more like ya, if I'm passing by and I need to fill that void for Hainan Chicken, it's a yes. read more

I'll start by saying this was my first time trying a Vietnamese-style chicken rice bowl, so maybe part of this is just a mismatch in expectations. I'm used to bold, layered Vietnamese flavors--dishes like Bo Luc Lac, lemongrass grilled chicken, pho, and egg rolls--so I went in expecting something along those lines. Instead, the overall impression came across pretty mild. Even the sauces that came with the bowl didn't really bring it to life for me. I ordered the Classic Hainan and Lemongrass combo. From what I understand, Hainan chicken is meant to be more subtle, so that may just not be my preference. That said, the dish also looked quite different from the photos they've posted, which set a different expectation going in. Portion-wise, it felt a bit small for a $17+ chicken rice dish. Service was okay--staff answered my questions, but responses were pretty minimal. I actually came in because of their Instagram, which was well done and drew me in. The space itself is convenient too--plenty of parking and seating. But overall, the execution didn't quite match the impression the marketing gave. The flavor was bland and not what I had expected. But...I want to start by saying the crispy chicken skins were excellent...perfectly seasoned. The smell was so tempting that I couldn't wait to get home. I admit I had to sneak in a taste. I think the skins taste best when hot and crispy. The flavor of the Classic Burd was bland. The scallion and ginger sauce added flavor, but overall still bland. I'm not sure how to describe the Krispy Burd. It was definitely not crispy. It tasted like day old chicken that had been overcooked. The meat was dry and not flavorful. The interior of the restaurant was clean. Service was friendly. The chicken is a little drier than cluck to go but not super over dried. The rice is flavorful and generous. I think the serving of chicken is smaller here than cluck to go. The highlight is the sauce- they do not skimp on ingredients to make the ginger scallion sauce. The sauce cup is packed with ginger and scallion vs other places they serve the ginger scallion sauce with mostly oil. The vinegar ginger sauce is also surprisingly good, nice tang to the mix. The Hainanese chicken rice is really solid--chicken was juicy with perfectly crispy skin, and the garlic rice was a big hit with the kids.
