    Chili Ginger Chicken Wings
    Molly M.

I was looking forward to trying this place and couldn't wait for the LB location to open up and instead drove to West Covina. I ordered online which was easy to do, but I was charged a 5% Online Platform Fee. It's a small restaurant with a few small tables and barstools. Not great for groups. No one was there when I was there around 5:30pm. Enjoyed the Hainan Chicken and Ginger Rice with the chili-ginger sauce. The chicken had some skin which tasted great together and was tender. The accompanying soup was delicious. The Bad - the Burd Bombs were very dry and tasted overcooked. Ordered the chili garlic chicken wing but it did not have any chili flavor so the name was misleading. Flavor was pretty bland. I'm not sure if I would come back to this location but I would be willing to give LB a chance when they open.

In the mood for chicken and something different, this is definitely the place to check out. For me, the chicken broth was bland and in desperate need of seasoning. The combo plate was okay, both the chicken and the rice needed seasoning and a sprinkle of salt. The chili ginger wings were strong in flavor and the bland rice helped out. The Cumquat drink was good. Not familiar with Cambodian flavors, not sure if these flavors were accurate. Customer service was good.

Tried this place 3x but we usually do take out.. The chicken was tender and the rice had good flavor, though nothing really stood out as amazing. Portions were fair but pricy. The highlight would be the crispy skin. It's my hubby's fav. The first time was great generous portion, then second time was small and third time seems like they changed the to go boxes and the price went up! The vibe is casual and service was friendly, making it an easy spot for a quick bite. Sadly their closed on Sunday's

    Classic Burd ($13.95)

Burd Chicken Rice (West Covina) is fresh, filling, and fast. I ordered the Classic Burd ($13.95). It's slow-cooked, dark chicken meat & fresh yellow rice; the meal includes a side of broth and chili-ginger sauce & ginger scallion sauce. The meal felt satisfying, clean, and healthy. I arrived at Burd Chicken Rice (West Covina) on Thursday (around 11:35AM). The location is busy yet efficient. There's two self-service ordering stations. Also, there's a counter where staff can take your order. (Quick Note: The Self-Service Stations requests a phone number; however, it's not needed. You can leave it blank and just hit "continue.") Staff is courteous and diligent. Staff regularly exclaim friendly phrases and offer help to customers. In addition, the food arrived ridiculously fast! It only took three minutes and 15 seconds!! The Classic Burd ($13.95) is filling. The chicken tasted clean and tender. By itself, there's no real flavor; however, it became much more enjoyable when dipped into the tangy chili-ginger sauce. The chicken portions are not huge, but it's a satisfying size. Personally, I enjoyed the fresh yellow rice the most. I loved how this rice tasted slightly fragrant and hot. There's also a self-service water station, and I genuinely enjoyed its crisp, chill, & refreshing water. Regarding ambiance, Burd Chicken Rice (West Covina) is clean and well-decorated. The art mural on its wall is gorgeous and vibrant. The tables are shiny and smooth. Also, the music is upbeat and enjoyable. If I were to nitpick, the location felt a little stuffy and warm. Overall, Burd Chicken Rice (West Covina) is a solid, affordable, & healthy option. The food lacks a memorable flavor; however, its food is fresh, clean, and filling. If local, it's a great option towards making a healthier lifestyle change. 4.5 out of 5

This place is located in downtown West Covina. There is usually plenty of parking. But can get busy towards the evening during the weekends because of the theater near by. When you walk in there are 2 kiosks and a register to order from. The staff is always super friendly. We came 2 times and they remembered us the second time! The dining area is pretty spacious and they also offer outdoor seating. I got the lemon chicken (not pictured) and my sister got the OG hainan chicken with rice and this hit so hard!! Rice and chicken were so flavorful and I also got a strawberry milk and it was also amazing! I've had my share of hainan chicken and this is top 3 for me! They also have friend chicken skin and fries which were also great! Definitely recommend!

I'm just gonna do a quick rating: Coconut Water and Sugar Cane Drink -- Solid 8.5/10 The Classic Hainan Chicken Rice -- a 7.9 / 10 The Chicken Skin Crisp -- a 4 / 10 Ambience: 9/10 clean & modern Service: 10/10 very friendly So I'll get right to it why I rated the crispy chicken skins that were recommended to me low. If you ever been to Hondaya, Ojiya, or any one of those old school yakitori places in Taiwan, usually Chicken skins are not fried per se so it was interesting trying out a fried version here. The skins in the above mentioned places are treated, stretched out grilled / charcoaled and rubbed with some yakitori / Sacha sauce to maximize texture and flavor. Here at Burd Chicken Rice, the Crispy Chicken Skins had a gamey taste, a little too gamey. It almost felt like the skins were tossed directly into the frier, not treated, and coated with pepper flakes, pepper powder, and some spices. It tasted like Fried Pork Skin, a little too greasy, a little overwhelming. So when you have Hainan Chicken which is steamed, boiled with Ginger, Rice Wine for pretreatment, the chicken itself is very refreshing, while the skins were the direct opposit of that. You can either coat the skins with curry powder marinade then fry, gochi berries rice wine marinade then fry, or 5 spices then fry then toss together with chilli powder and msg to give it a kicker Or if stand alone, a vinegar based sauce with more sourness and pepper salt would be a better compliment to the crisps. The Hainan Chicken itself was fairly decent, although this was the first time it was presented on a bed of cabbage. I'd wish there were more vinegar based pickled radishes or cucumbers to compliment the chicken. The meat was really tender, rice a little on the softer side, was overall decent; not WoW, but more like ya, if I'm passing by and I need to fill that void for Hainan Chicken, it's a yes.

    Tip

I was excited when I read the positive reviews about Burd Chicken Rice. I recently came back from Singapore and was looking forward to having Hainan Chicken again. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The flavor was bland and not what I had expected. But...I want to start by saying the crispy chicken skins were excellent...perfectly seasoned. The smell was so tempting that I couldn't wait to get home. I admit I had to sneak in a taste. I think the skins taste best when hot and crispy. The flavor of the Classic Burd was bland. The scallion and ginger sauce added flavor, but overall still bland. I'm not sure how to describe the Krispy Burd. It was definitely not crispy. It tasted like day old chicken that had been overcooked. The meat was dry and not flavorful. The interior of the restaurant was clean. Service was friendly. The gentleman advised us that it would take about 10 minutes to prepare our food after we placed our order.

    Chicken and yellow rice

Ordered Door dash delivery from this chicken rice shop the other day. It's been chilly and hubby caught a cold. So chicken rice was a good choice for him. We have tried chicken congee and two kinds of chicken rice. The food was so comforting and delicious. Portions were great for the prices. We will definitely order from this place again!

It's an ok place. The service is great. My chicken rice plate is pricy but needed to be more seasoned. Shoestring fries were great and the iced coffee is small. There is outside seating and plenty of parking

    hainan chicken plate

Burd is located in this strip mall next to Plaza West Covina. I heard about how the hainan chicken rice so since we were j. the area we tried it out. i got the hainan chicken rice plate and wife got the lemongrass chicken plate the portions were decent as well were full after finishing our plates. can with 2 sauces: the standard scallions and ginger sauce and another sauce church my wife raved about. i would say the hainan chicken was good the chicken moist and had enough flavor. rice flavor was not overpowering and you can take the broth in the rice. lemongrass chicken i wish it had more flavor. the lemongrass flavor was there but subtle overall not a bad place for hainan chicken. for the 2 of us, just 2 chicken plates no drinks came out to $30 pre tax and tip. you order at a kiosk and u can either pick up or they will bro g your tray. but you bus your tray after finishing. they have both indoor and outdoor seating. not the tables outdoors are not that stable so be forewarned

    Mixed Burd

Food was delicious. I got the mix burd plate. Comes with clear broth soup, two different types of chicken, rice, fresh cucumber slices, shredded cabbage and two types of sauce. It was a to-go order and service was fast. Owners are very nice.

    Cane Pom + Classic Combo
    Bilin W.

The entree costs ~$14, around the normal price range for Hainan Chicken Rice. Got the Classic Burd + Cane Pom combo for ~$20, portion was just enough for one. Cane Pom was sour and overpowering the flavor of sugar cane, I preferred 50/50 (coconut + cane) for a more refreshing flavor of sugar cane. Drink is made fresh at the time of order, the worker brings sugarcane out from the back. It's all natural flavor, definitely a healthy alternative drink to combo with the entree. The rice was moist and chicken was tender and fresh. The two comboed well with the sauce and resulting in a flavorful meal. The soup was one of the best I've had at a Hainan Chicken Rice restaurant. It was well-seasoned with a slight kick of ginger and cilantro. Drink: 3/5, Chicken/Rice: 4.5/5, Soup: 5/5

They always have a lot of seating and are always willing to help if you have any questions or need any additional service. Their menu is extensive and they have a bunch of items, but my favorite thing to order there DIY spring rolls, as well as bun bo hue. To be honest, you could order almost anything on the menu, but those are my go to. It is quite loud in there, but there's always people inside, enjoying their food. It's a place to go and it reminds me of home when I can't get home made food. There's a bunch of TVs around if you feel like watching the news or any sports, their restrooms are relatively clean, and their parking is in a huge plaza so depending on the time you go, there should be parking! The food tastes authentic, the quality is amazing, and everything is so rich and flavorful. You can really tell they care about the food they make. It's located on the corner to the right side of Hong Kong Plaza near Haven City Market, and honestly this restaurant really stood out to me. I already love this plaza, but this place quickly became one of my favorite spots there. One thing I really love is their pork spring rolls. They make them fresh when you order, and you can definitely taste the difference. They're so fresh, delicious, and honestly one of the best spring rolls I've had in a while. They also do catering, which I definitely plan on using in the future if I ever host a party or birthday because the food is just that good. I only had one issue during one of my visits. I can't eat cucumber, so I asked for no cucumber in both my pork dish and spring rolls. They accidentally still included it in my pork dish. Thankfully, when I brought it up, they fixed it quickly and apologized right away, which I appreciated a lot. I still love this place, but I do think it's important for people with allergies or food restrictions to double check their food before eating, just to be safe. Besides that, everything else has been amazing. The restaurant has a really calm atmosphere with lots of greenery and that open, cozy Vietnamese restaurant feel. The workers are also really kind and welcoming every time I come in. I also appreciate how authentic this place feels. Whenever I'm trying food from another culture, I always want something that feels genuine, and this place definitely gives me that experience. I come here a couple times a month now, and it's honestly one of my favorite places to eat. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the cucumber issue, but overall the food and experience are still amazing.

Turns out Yelp was having a moment of brilliance. We rolled in with a full-on clan of 14 hungry young adults, and somehow everyone left happy, full, and already talking about what they'd order next time. Our table was stacked with garlic string beans, walnutshrimp, special fried rice, French beef and Lobster with pan-fried noodles. The shrimp was a crowd favorite, the noodles were loaded with flavor, and even the string beans earned plenty of compliments. My only tiny critique is that for me the walnut shrimp was a bit more breaded than I personally like, but that's a minor speed bump in an otherwise fantastic meal. Pro tip: ask them to bring the rice out first. The dishes are packed with bold, rich flavors, and having a bowl of rice ready lets you soak up every last delicious bite without feeling like you've gone ten rounds with a sodium ninja. The service was outstanding too; our servers teamed up and handled our group of 14 like pros, stayed attentive throughout the night, and never missed a beat. We separated the youngins and OGs in two close tables. We arrived about 3 hours before their 11 p.m. closing time on a busy Saturday, yet nobody made us feel rushed. It took 45 min to be seated and we stayed to closing. Er had so much fun in this VIP experience. The restaurant itself is spacious, tucked into a shopping center with plenty of parking, making it an easy choice for groups big or small. If Kim Tar can keep 14 people fed, smiling, and agreeing on dinner, that's practically a miracle. I'll definitely be back for another feast. Next time I'll have the 3 pound lobster just for me!

Great Cambodian restaurant in Long Beach! The food here was authentic and comforting. I visited…read morehere with a friend for a Saturday dinner and the restaurant wasn't too busy. My friend and I shared a variety of dishes: -Student Noodle: If chow mein and pad thai had a baby, this would be that dish. Without the fish sauce, the noodles tasted like chow mein. This dish overall was good! While I would still opt for pad thai, the noodle texture was good and I enjoyed the flavors. We got this with crispy pork and it was tasty, but I wish it was crispier. I liked how it wasn't too fatty. -Fish Amok: It did not look like the picture, but the dish was still good. It was a sweet fish curry which was sweet from the coconut milk. This was tasty and the fish was soft. It wasn't fishy at all. This paired well with the rice. I would still opt for a savory curry though. -Beef Skewers: These were yummy and I enjoyed the charred flavor of these! The flavor was very similar to Filipino skewers. I liked how even the fatty parts were enjoyable. Steamed Rice: Fluffy and not mushy which I liked. It came served in this cute rice bucket which preserved the heat of it. The restaurant was decorated nicely and was pretty clean. Bathrooms available which were also clean. The service was good and attentive. There's lots of free parking in the lot in front. Overall, a solid Cambodian restaurant that's worth checking out in the Long Beach area!

My go to is the combination beef with egg noodle, soup inside. If they have it, with a donut. Parking is not the best but if you can find it it's worth the wait. I frequent here at least twice a month. Even more during a cold day!

Maybe it's nostalgia or maybe they've just lost their taste buds. What really bothered me was the service. Why hand customers a menu if you're not even going to give them time to look at it? I had barely sat down before a waiter rushed over asking what I wanted. I told him I had just sat down and hadn't even opened the menu yet. He rolled his eyes and walked away. I kid you not....about 30 seconds later, another waiter came rushing over asking the same question. I felt rushed and annoyed at the same time. What's going on here? To be fair, I grew up eating here and have returned about three times as an adult. Unfortunately, each visit has been worse than the last. The restaurant seems to have no motivation to improve. The place feels dirty, the food is mediocre, and the customer service is pretty terrible.
