Went for the great reviews and ended my meal look for something else to eat. It wasn't terrible, don't get me wrong. And customer service was above par! Food was made quickly too. But perhaps my craving for Chinese food and these high reviews made me too excited to eat. We had a big order over $70 and the only thing we really liked was the spring rolls. The lo mein was tasty but had way more veggies than noodles. Every other dish was very low on flavor and very high on veggies. Both the beef and broccoli and the chow mein had almost no meat at all. Also, didn't get fortune cookies which was just unfortunate. I wouldn't go back again but I won't say it was a terrible experience either. I am however, disappointed in my fellow yelpers. read more

We have ordered food several times from Golden Star. I would say food is average at best. Seems their frying oil must be old or not changed often enough as fried items taste rancid, like Kung Pao Chicken and egg rolls. They are always very courteous and service is great. read more

I'm so glad I tried Golden Star! I live in Greenbrier, near the mall, so I have a few choices for Chinese take out. Until a few weeks ago, I stayed pretty close to home for Chinese food. I decided to try Golden Star when I was in the shopping center. And again, I'm so glad I did! My go-to Chinese dish is Singapore Chow Mei Fun and there's is so much better than the other 3 restaurants closest to my home. Their, chicken and broccoli, fried rice and egg rolls are very good as well. It's 2 1/2 miles out of my way but it is now the place I will go to get Chinese take-out. If I could give this place NO STARS I would. I just called to place an order and asked if they deliver since I am working from home plus it's convenient but not a deal breaker if they did not offer delivery. Well, the lady on the phone said no delivery and hung up on me. I sat there for a minute puzzled that she was so dismissive. I called back and asked why did she hang up on me and she said because I asked for delivery and she was busy. What!? Are you serious!!!? We were only on the phone for a few seconds. I was already against ordering Chinese but the family really wanted some so here we are! I told the lady that I simply asked if they offered delivery but she didn't give me a chance to say that's okay I would like to order pickup. I was really still going to order food. She kept talking over me telling me that I asked for delivery. I could not get a word in so I got louder and told her when a customer calls and ask for delivery and it's not available, it does not mean they do not want to order! I had a $50+ order to place but after such rudeness and the fact that at this point I was unable to place my order because she was stuck on the fact that I ask a question about delivery....it was impossible to order! Why would I still try to order, right!? Finally, I yelled at her saying I wanted to place an order and give you business but clearly my business is not wanted so I will go elsewhere! I have never been treated with such poor customer service. I am trying to support local business and you're turning people away. She did say she was busy so I guess only certain customers are greeted with kindness. They do not have to worry about me supporting them in the future. I was kind, patient, and forgiving of the fact that she hung up before I could give her my order. This is why I stick with my regulars...they're always happy to have business and really friendly!!! With COVID, I try to support our local businesses but I was just denied service so on to the next. There are businesses in the area that will willing take business especially when one order is over $50 worth of food because we wanted to sample the menu!!! Golden Star is set apart by two things: fantastic chefs and a sweet bonus system that gives you freebies (egg rolls, etc.) based on how much you spend. With prices comparable to nearby competitors, the freebies alone make Golden Star a no-brainer. The food was fresh and piping hot. I ordered the bourbon chicken combo - the flavor was fantastic and the chicken perfectly cooked. The side of pork fried rice was tasty even without any soy sauce. And the portions were ample - I would normally stretch a combo at other restaurants out to two meals, but the food was so good I couldn't stop myself. The only regret I have is how much I ate. Having recently moved down the Chesapeake area, my fiance and I have been trying to find a good chinese food place for him. Checked yelp and this place got really good reviews, so we dragged a friend with us to try it out. We are so glad we did. It looks like a typical small chinese restaurant. The small altars and the generic food pictures behind the counter. But the food was delicious. I ordered the crispy orange chicken, and after a 15 min drive back home, it was still crispy. Despite being in a thick syrupy sauce. It has a tiny bit of heat (I don't do well with spicy) that I loved, and the orange peels/flavor is yummy. My friend got the General Tso's Tofu, and it was super good. The tofu was nice and crispy and the sauce was perfect. I wish we lived closer so we could get delivery, but it's well worth driving out when we have a chinese food craving. read more

Loved It! I have eaten chinese across Hampton roads. Most are the same, at least the menu is. I was stopping at wawa to get a hoagie and realized open sign was still on. Ordered the Mongolian beef, orange chicken, general tso chicken and chicken lo mein. All were great! I was a faithful customer for over a year. Unfortunately that just ended today. My daughter picked up an order that I called in last night. I ordered a large shrimp fried rice, when my daughter got home and we opened the box it was pork fried rice. There was a horrible storm I called to let them know of the order mishap and the lady asked if I could bring it back. I said no it is storming and I am tired I will bring whats left of it in the morning. Well I returned what was left she was very rude asked for an additionally 75 cents, gave me the correct order, did not say thanks, we are sorry nothing just no customer satisfaction. First time I have been here got the sweet and sour chicken. Got a overflowing box of chicken and a 20 oz bowl of rice. There was more than enough food for one person. Food was freshly prepared and quick. All this for under 6 dollars great for the money! The staff were very nice. read more
