    Afternoon tea Menu - feb2023
    Crystal L.

Goldsor has been a classic chinese fast food restaurant in Time Square in Richmond Hill. And I'm here for their afternoon tea special. Afternoon tea 下午茶 starts at 3pm, but the server was already accepting menu items at 2pm. Thats exciting and save me more $$. Food overall was 3.5/5. Nothing was bad, I just didnt love the food as much as i thought i did~ and the hot plate was def a hit, all eyes on you the moment it comes out of the kitchen. Happy hour - J. Spaghetti Bolognese with Cheese

Wow, I can't believe the last time I came here was in 2019! I was in the neighbourhood this past weekend and craving a classic HK afternoon tea or "下午茶" meal. My place of choice (Cafe de Hong Kong) unfortunately had a very long wait time of over 50mins.. so I did a quick search on Yelp and found that Goldsor had an afternoon tea menu from 3-6pm. I ordered "J. Spaghetti Bolognese with Cheese", one of my classic faves, and shared a "G. Chicken Wings with French Fries" with my boyfriend. I took both of my HK milk teas to-go since it was already too late in the afternoon for me to have caffeine. I had it the next day and it was just mediocre. The spaghetti unfortunately did not live up to my standards. The portioning seemed a little small, there wasn't a lot of cheese, and the flavour of the meat sauce was lacking. I get that it's served to match the $10 price point of afternoon tea but in retrospect, I would've much rather paid a few bucks more to get a tastier and larger portion at Good Catch Cafe. The chicken wings and french fries were good although seemed rather pricey - $10 for 4 wings? I guess inflation is hitting hard everywhere. Unbeknownst to me was that after asking for the bill and a to-go box, we realized that they charged $0.25 for each box and each to-go cup for the drinks. All in all, we paid $40 for 2ppl, which is more than I can justify for a not very satisfying 下午茶. It was nostalgic to be back but I definitely won't be coming around again for afternoon tea.

We stopped by for breakfast recently. Dividers were set up on the outer edges of the tables to provide separation. Servers were wearing masks and you're requested to provide contact information. We had the instant noodles with luncheon meat and satay beef vermicelli with egg toast. I don't know if it was how delicious the food was but I practically inhaled my noodles. The egg was a nice accompaniment to the luncheon meat and noodles. The egg whites were pan fried well and the yolk was still runny. For the egg toast the bread was well toasted and the egg silky smooth. Eat it while it's hot! There was a good amount of meat with the vermicelli. The beef was the tiniest bit on the tough side though.

[This review is from before the pandemic] Pretty solid classic HK diner food. We came here for the lunch specials: spaghetti with ham + shredded chicken (with cream sauce), and the pork chop with gravy sauce and rice. Both dishes were great! Pretty much exactly what you'd expect and in nice large portions. You definitely get a lot of value out of this place (even though they raised the prices). It's a great place to kind of just have a full meal with all the sides. You can't really go wrong with this place, and they have amazing afternoon tea time (around 3-5pm I think) specials!

Good food, good service, and OK to good ambiance. The Stir-fried Linguini with Seafood, Chicken Wings with French Fries and Hot Ovaltine were good.

Good for the price (afternoon tea) It is getting dated with all the food items which once were chic in Hong Kong in the 1990s-2000s

This restaurant established for a couple decades, located just outside of Time Square in RH. They have special lunch menu everyday and there are 4 different special combo to choose from, includes soup, butter bun, the dish that you can chose out of the 4 plus the drink of your choice. Their soup and bun is always hot, good variety of choices for main dishes, from steak, porkchop, fish filet and chicken, you can either match with white rice or spaghetti + different sauces. Price usually goes from 9.99 to 12.99 for lunch or you can order something different from their main menu. Portion are good, my wife can barely finish the combo. Service was great, the waiter and waitress work in that restaurant for long time and kbow exactly what they are doing. I put 4 stars because this place would be a lot more comfortable if they can renovate the restaurant. The decor, table, chairs are dated. A new renovated fresh look can enhance the dine in experience.

Pros: Quintessential HK style cafe Great hot plate meals Cons: Seating is tight I've been going to Goldsor for years so it's quite surprising that I'm only getting to the review now. Goldsor is the very definition of HK style cafe. Set meals, bread and soup with every special etc. You name anything associated with HK style cafe, Goldsor does it. Goldsor offers a variety of meals you would normally find at HK style cafes. Their specialty is the hot plate. They serve meals that come out sizzling on those hot plates and they are absolutely delicious. As I said earlier, all special meals come with warm bread and butter, a drink and soup. There are also set kids meals here too so food wise it's kid friendly as well. I usually order one of the hot plates when I come here. The last time I came I decided to take the plunge and get the steak. I usually never order steak at a HK style cafe. Goldsor has impressed me enough in the past that I was finally willing to do it. Glad I did too. The steak was very good for what you are paying. The portion was good and the meat itself was pretty tender and not over cooked. I'm also a fan of the cold drinks as Goldsor is one of the few places left that let you add sugar to your drinks yourself. You get the exact amount of sugar in your drink as you want which I like. My only grip about the place is that the seating is a bit tight. They try to fit as many tables as possible. When you have kids, it can get a bit difficult getting them seated and getting them dressed to leave after. All in all, Goldsor remains a great example of what a HK style cafe should be. This is definitely one of go to spots when I'm in the area.

Cold Hk Lemon tea, Russian Borscht and a bun

Went here for lunch today and we were quickly seated at a table that had to be wiped down. After a server wiped our table we sat down and were given menus. 5 seconds after we were given the menus the waitress with the short hair asked if we were ready to order. We told her not yet and another 5 seconds later she was breathing down our necks hovering right beside us asking if we were ready to order again. Again, we responded no. She had no regard for personal space and even when she came around to put down the paper placemats, half of the paper was on my arm. The restaurant is very loud. You'll hear loud clanging of utensils roughly being sorted by the workers. The food came very quickly however the Russian borscht was lacking flavor and vegetables. The spaghetti was bland and watery. The chicken steak was okay. The best part of the meal was the hk lemon tea and the bun served with the soup. If you make the mistake of coming here or just enjoy being treated like shit by servers and eating subpar food, there is plenty parking available in the plaza and their wifi password is: GOLDSOR1

Goldsor Restaurant is located at Time Square. It serves mainly Hong Kong style Western food. I have to say the breakfast is quite decent here, starting at $3.45. I ordered the 2 eggs/hot dogs/toast with HK style milk tea where as my sister ordered the satay beef vermicelli with hot honey lemon. My sister really enjoy her food because it is really tasty with a lot of satay sauce. The beef is plentiful and tender. She finished the whole bowel by herself! My breakfast set is quite ok, but for $3.45 that's really good value. The services is fast and friendly. I won't be hesitate to be back to eat here again.

LUNCH Haven't been here since my last review in 2012. Wow, how time flew! This place hasn't changed ANYTHING since my last visit. The waitress even had the same bad breath from 6 years ago lol. TIMELESS. With that said, We ordered the baked Portuguese chicken combo (now $3.75 for combo) and a French toast. They tasted EXACTLY the same from my last visit. Which was delicious! Hence I am not changing my rating and happy to say that this place is still a great place to grab a quick great tasting HK style lunch! Well, see you again in 2024 for my next updated review. Hopefully nothing changes, except for maybe the waitress's flossing habits :). Keke..

Sizzling plate pork chop with garlic sauce

Not many restaurants have the HK style sizzling plate but they have it here! Was craving pork chop with garlic sauce and it hit the spot. Price wasn't bad with the inflation these days - $15.99 for 2 pieces of pork chop with fries and some vegetables, soup with bread and a drink. Tables were very close together though. Other than that I would come back again.

I had placed my order through the app and got the following: - Poutine - McDouble I went through the drive-thru to pick up my order. The drive-thru is between two buildings, with a roof to keep your car dry when it's snowing or raining. I approached the speaker. The guy with a young voice on the other end started the conversation. I stated my code. One word from him: What? Okay, either you are too young to have lost your hearing unless you listen to music at full blast with headphones, or you need to polish up on your customer service skills. How about, "I didn't catch that code. Can you please repeat it?" So, I bluntly restated my code, even using the international / NATO phonetic alphabet for the first two letters. If you are going to be a pill about things, I don't mind wasting your time to clearly get my code to you. He got it. I headed over to the window to pick up my food. I thanked the woman who gave me my bag of food and headed home. During the pandemic, McD's decided to remove poutine from the menu. Since it has returned, I crave it. It was yummy. It had lots of gravy. The cheese curds were too melted to figure out if they were actually cheese curds or melted mozzarella. The fries were yummy. I got a wooden fork for my poutine. It was my first time using one. It worked well. I had my McDouble next. It was yummy. If you want a double patty and a cheeseburger as a light snack, it's a good option. Other than the man with his one-word response to not catching my code, I had a good experience here. (387)

I have known about this Jollibee location at Promenade Mall for a while. I finally got around to visiting it on Monday after work, which completed my visiting Jollibee locations in the suburbs of Toronto. I like this Jollibee. It's by mall entrance 2. You have access to this eatery from the mall or through its own entrance when the mall is closed. Most Jollibee restaurants have washrooms with a numeric code that you need to use to unlock it. This one does not have this code, which is nice to not bug staff for the special code. I used the washroom before I left. It was decent. You press a button to lock the door and press the larger button to unlock it. I spent a bit of time at the mall. I worked up an appetite and headed over to Jollibee for a bite to eat. It's across from Firehouse Subs, which I'd like to visit someday. I walked through the mall entrance to get here. The downside to looking at the menu is that there's so much that I want. My usual is often not listed right off the bat. I have to wait for the screen to change to see it. I got a nice man at the counter who greeted me and took my order: - Two-piece burger steak - Adobo rice - Peach mango pie - Pineapple quencher I got my Jollibee rewards QR code scanned. I then paid with a credit card. I tapped, but didn't see that the credit card had prompted me for my PIN. It was incredibly random! I got my pineapple quencher. I love this drink so much. It is sweet. I'm glad that I don't have it regularly, so it ends up being a treat. The pineapple is so good. It's also icy cold. I got a buzzer to let me know when my food would be ready. I found a table and sat there, sipping my drink and people-watching. My order was number 19. The buzzer had 19 on in. It buzzed and lit up like I had won the lottery. It was kind of true. I was fetching my winnings in the form of dinner. I thanked another man at the counter who had my order nicely presented on a tray. I then headed back to my table to eat. I find the two-piece burger steak to be comforting. It's so good with sliced mushrooms and gravy. Adobo rice was new, so I went for it. It was flavourful. I hope it stays on the menu, as it's a fancy step up from the plain steamed rice! I mixed the adobo rice with the mushroom gravy. It was fantastic! I capped my meal off with a peach mango pie. It was excellent. There was plenty of fruit filling. The pie was crispy and hot. Yum! Before I left, I filled my empty cup with Diet Pepsi. I still don't know if I should be doing this fill-up, but I run out of pineapple quencher quickly that I genuinely need another drink. Maybe I need to suggest a larger quencher cup size, but I'd be on a massive sugar high than I already have with the current cup size. I'm glad that I can finally say that I've been here. Staff were helpful and great. The food and drink were yummy. I'll be back soon. (224)

It took two people fifteen minutes to make it. - Communication to the customer on how long it would take for my order to be ready wasn't stellar. On Wednesday night, after driving home from Mississauga, I felt like a milkshake. Where should I get one? I remembered that the Boardwalk Fries Burgers Shake location in Scarborough that I had visited months ago offered milkshakes. I also remembered this Boardwalk location in Markham. It used to be South St. Burger. Markham used to have two locations. It now has zero, which is a downer. I came here at nearly 9 pm. There were lots of parking spots. I pulled into one and entered the store. The Boardwalk is a combo store with Lava Grill. There is one entrance for both eateries. I walked in. There was a couple enjoying a meal. I was the only person at the order area, which is shared between the two eateries. It took a while for the man at Boardwalk to come over. He was making burgers. I ordered these items: - Strawberry shake without whipped cream - Dubai chocolate brownie I paid with a credit card. Done. Communication is an issue here. This man continued making burgers and fries. He didn't let me know how long it would take to make my order. I wasn't in a rush, but I didn't know that it would take fifteen minutes for two folks to try and make my milkshake. I did like that the press for the burgers automatically came down on the patties and had a timer. I also watched fries go into hot oil and the basket automatically come up once the fries were done. It was also on a timer. I noticed that burger man got Lava guy to make my shake. They both went into the back. Burger man came back to assemble the burgers. Lava guy was still in the back. My guess was that there was some issue making my shake. Again, I got no communication until Lava guy came out to look at my order and told me it would be two minutes. Um, sure. I didn't believe it. I was right. I decided to sit down. Burger guy had finished making the burgers. He went outside. He came back in. His first communication to me was two fingers up in the area. Two minutes or victory?! Five minutes later, I saw a shake come out from the back. Lava guy was holding it. Lava guy took a box with a brownie and packed it in a paper bag. I got a napkin, a fork, and a spoon. He handed me a pretty strawberry shake and my paper bag. I thanked both guys, more relieved than anything, and left. I got into my car and drove home. Despite the wait and the lack of decent communication, the two items that I had were excellent. The strawberry milkshake was yummy. I loved the strawberry flavour. It was creamy and enjoyable. I had the Dubai chocolate brownie yesterday. It was so good. I loved the crispy bits with pistachio cream and a delectable, moist brownie layer. Yum! I'm thinking that ordering online and coming here to pick up my order would be best. This place seems to take its time because it seems to be on its own time. Boardwalk has happy hour deals at night. I may give it a try next time. Here's hoping that communication is better. (190)

The man muttered at me with a homophobic slur in an upset manner even though my phone camera was never directed at him. Upon telling this man that I didn't appreciate his muttering, he pulled a large pocket knife to show his long blade and committed to charging towards me. If the store is quiet, the chicken is soggy, steamy after pick up. So this is truly a hit or miss. Some of the deals they let you swap out (biscuits for Mac and cheese for example - but for 4 biscuits they give you a small mac and cheese, is it worth it?) Restaurant is fairly clean, it's a fast food store not a Michelin restaurant. Staff are typically pretty friendly every time I visit. Haven't had any issues with them - except when you give me a small Mac and cheese in exchange for 4 biscuits Anywho probably my wife and I's favorite location for Popeyes. Stay crispy.
