Located in Times Square in the Highway 7 Chinese area, this place is very easy to miss among the often much more flashy competition all around it. Let's start with the highlights. Goldsor is the place to go when you're hungry and need something to eat NOW. The restaurant is no-nonsense. Super fast turnover from super fast service. Even when it's packed the wait time is no more than 10-15 minutes tops. They offer standard HK style cafe food. Various steaks on sizzling plate with soup and rice/spaghetti/fries. Their milk tea is rich and smooth. Their portions are decent for their price. Overall it's good value for money. Wow, I can't believe the last time I came here was in 2019! I was in the neighbourhood this past weekend and craving a classic HK afternoon tea or "下午茶" meal. My place of choice (Cafe de Hong Kong) unfortunately had a very long wait time of over 50mins.. so I did a quick search on Yelp and found that Goldsor had an afternoon tea menu from 3-6pm. I ordered "J. Spaghetti Bolognese with Cheese", one of my classic faves, and shared a "G. Chicken Wings with French Fries" with my boyfriend. I took both of my HK milk teas to-go since it was already too late in the afternoon for me to have caffeine. I had it the next day and it was just mediocre. The spaghetti unfortunately did not live up to my standards. The portioning seemed a little small, there wasn't a lot of cheese, and the flavour of the meat sauce was lacking. I get that it's served to match the $10 price point of afternoon tea but in retrospect, I would've much rather paid a few bucks more to get a tastier and larger portion at Good Catch Cafe. The chicken wings and french fries were good although seemed rather pricey - $10 for 4 wings? I guess inflation is hitting hard everywhere. Unbeknownst to me was that after asking for the bill and a to-go box, we realized that they charged $0.25 for each box and each to-go cup for the drinks. All in all, we paid $40 for 2ppl, which is more than I can justify for a not very satisfying 下午茶. We stopped by for breakfast recently. Dividers were set up on the outer edges of the tables to provide separation. Servers were wearing masks and you're requested to provide contact information. We had the instant noodles with luncheon meat and satay beef vermicelli with egg toast. I don't know if it was how delicious the food was but I practically inhaled my noodles. The egg was a nice accompaniment to the luncheon meat and noodles. The egg whites were pan fried well and the yolk was still runny. For the egg toast the bread was well toasted and the egg silky smooth. Eat it while it's hot! There was a good amount of meat with the vermicelli. [This review is from before the pandemic] Pretty solid classic HK diner food. We came here for the lunch specials: spaghetti with ham + shredded chicken (with cream sauce), and the pork chop with gravy sauce and rice. Both dishes were great! Goldsor has been around for 20+ years and my parents have been going here for food since then. It's crazy to think that even though they've moved locations, it's still the same people running the place! Typically, we come for breakfast. I order combo I, FRIED CHICKEN STEAK WITH TWO SUNNY SIDE UP EGGS AND TOAST (comes with gravy on the chicken) or if I want to feel a little more healthy conscious, I'll opt for combo N, FRIED CHICKEN STEAK WITH FRUIT SALAD (I request for no salad dressing). I enjoy that the chicken steak has a crispy skin but the meat inside is extremely tender. The combo also comes with a drink, which I typically get the HOT CHOCOLATE. It's just hot chocolate made from the powder packets (and disclaimer, it does come half mixed so you have to stir it more yourself when they bring it to your table) but I do enjoy it. Overall, this place is all about efficiency. If you're looking for a quiet sit-down, this is not the place for you. However, if you're looking for service that's quick (you literally receive your food in 5-10 mins after you order, and it comes out hot) and a place that's cheap while still leaving you satisfied, this IS the spot for you. This restaurant established for a couple decades, located just outside of Time Square in RH. They have special lunch menu everyday and there are 4 different special combo to choose from, includes soup, butter bun, the dish that you can chose out of the 4 plus the drink of your choice. Their soup and bun is always hot, good variety of choices for main dishes, from steak, porkchop, fish filet and chicken, you can either match with white rice or spaghetti + different sauces. Price usually goes from 9.99 to 12.99 for lunch or you can order something different from their main menu. Portion are good, my wife can barely finish the combo. Service was great, the waiter and waitress work in that restaurant for long time and kbow exactly what they are doing. I put 4 stars because this place would be a lot more comfortable if they can renovate the restaurant. The decor, table, chairs are dated. They serve meals that come out sizzling on those hot plates and they are absolutely delicious. As I said earlier, all special meals come with warm bread and butter, a drink and soup. There are also set kids meals here too so food wise it's kid friendly as well. I usually order one of the hot plates when I come here. The last time I came I decided to take the plunge and get the steak. I usually never order steak at a HK style cafe. Goldsor has impressed me enough in the past that I was finally willing to do it. Glad I did too. The steak was very good for what you are paying. The portion was good and the meat itself was pretty tender and not over cooked. I'm also a fan of the cold drinks as Goldsor is one of the few places left that let you add sugar to your drinks yourself. You get the exact amount of sugar in your drink as you want which I like. My only grip about the place is that the seating is a bit tight. They try to fit as many tables as possible. When you have kids, it can get a bit difficult getting them seated and getting them dressed to leave after. All in all, Goldsor remains a great example of what a HK style cafe should be. After our favourite Hong Kong style afternoon tea place , KIKO, was closed, we started to look for new options and a friend from Hong Kong recommended this place to us. It's great value for money. At a cheap price, you can get really full and satisfied with the food quality too. They had really good deep fried fish and super yummy icy red bean drink. They served the food super fast (within 5 minutes of order). The only thing I didn't like about this place was the server was always in a rush (like those in school canteen). They will come to you three times pushing you to order even when you only read the menu for three minutes. read more

After a server wiped our table we sat down and were given menus. 5 seconds after we were given the menus the waitress with the short hair asked if we were ready to order. We told her not yet and another 5 seconds later she was breathing down our necks hovering right beside us asking if we were ready to order again. Again, we responded no. She had no regard for personal space and even when she came around to put down the paper placemats, half of the paper was on my arm. The restaurant is very loud. You'll hear loud clanging of utensils roughly being sorted by the workers. The food came very quickly however the Russian borscht was lacking flavor and vegetables. The spaghetti was bland and watery. The chicken steak was okay. The best part of the meal was the hk lemon tea and the bun served with the soup. I ordered the 2 eggs/hot dogs/toast with HK style milk tea where as my sister ordered the satay beef vermicelli with hot honey lemon. My sister really enjoy her food because it is really tasty with a lot of satay sauce. The beef is plentiful and tender. She finished the whole bowel by herself! We got a basket of warm buns too; these were the good types of buns. Soft! I was pleasantly surprised with how large the dish of Angel Hair pasta was! It was definitely creamy which I loved -- the pasta was drenched with the cream sauce. The sausages were regular hot dogs cut up and there were two Japanese style fried prawns. These were actually so crunchy and tasty! I loved this dish. The Chicken in Portuguese Style with Rice was actually so-so. There was a small bowl of the chicken with Portuguese sauce. There is a choice of having rice or spaghetti but I'm not a carb person so they can just change that to more vegetables. There are 3 options for sauce, garlic gravy, gravy and black pepper sauce. I like the black pepper sauce, it has a little kick of spiciness. Each order comes with soup(either cream corn or vegetable), bread with butter, drink(milk tea or lemon tea) and dessert(jelly or pudding). All these for $11.99+tax. The fried pork chop and rice was soggy. It's was like they fried everything and dunked it in water for a week. It was gross. Even the meat tasted like mush. How is that even possible!!! We both ordered the same dish. The curry beef brisket with rice. The lunch menu suppose to rotate every week. The restaurant is small with at least 22 tables (didn't really count all of them lol). The number of parking spaces is too few for the number restaurants and businesses in the same plaza. Back to the food - the curry sauce was a tad spicy for me and pretty standard. It was flavourful and went well with the onion, potatoes and brisket. The lunch also came with a soup (tomato or cream based), bread with butter on the side, and a choice between coffee or milk tea (hot or cold). Milk tea hot or cold is pretty good. You can request to have more milk or more tea in the drink. I'm satisfied with the portion size of the dish and the flavours and it was definitely very filling. I had seen a few couples actually bring their own glass containers to take leftovers home. Which is a great idea for lunch the next day. It wasn't amazing but overall quite decent and I would come back to try other things. If you need a refill of hot tea it's easy to request for another refill because the service is pretty attentive. I think I actually used to come here when I was a kid and would always get a fish cutlet with fries. Whenever you go to a hong Kong restaurant, always get either milk tea or lemon tea. I ordered a dish with black pepper stripped steak and linguine. I thought this dish would be good but unfortunately the sauce was excessive and the linguine was too soft. Not to mention, the steak wasn't even enough. Most was the linguine. Lastly, avoid going there at peak time. When this place gets busy (more often than not), it is a disaster. They can mess up your order and also forgot to give you the drinks.
